Sara F. Lay
Miss Sara Frances Lay, 88, of Athens, died Sunday, March 31, 2002.
Born in Jackson County, Miss Lay was a daughter of the late William Daniel and Sara Gertrude Garrison Lay.
Miss Lay was a retired school teacher, having taught in Jackson and Clarke counties. She was a member of Dry Pond United Methodist Church, Maysville.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the Dry Pond United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Edwin Smith officiating.
Miss Lay is survived by a number of cousins.

Irene Wade
Mrs. Irene Wade, 85, of Auburn, died Friday, April 5, 2002.
Born in Gwinnett County to the late Apsi and Georgia Lee Bowman Walls, Mrs. Wade had resided in Barrow County for most of her life.
She was a housewife and was a member of Alcovy Baptist Church. Mrs. Wade was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Wade, and a grandson, Lee Wade.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Carey Hudson officiating. Burial was in the Alcovy Baptist Church cemetery. Keith Wade, Chris Cooper, Eric Cooper, James Wilson, Keith Hardy and Thomas Healan Jr. served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Healan, Auburn, and Judy Cooper, Bethlehem; four sons, James Woodfin Wade, Hoschton, William Wade, Winder, Wayne Wade, Morganton, and Wyndell Wade, Statham; three sisters, Evelyn Cronic, Buckhead, and Bonnie Evans and Annie Lou Wheeler, both of Winder; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Sarah R. Proctor
Mrs. Sarah Rebecca Hunnicutt Mauldin Proctor, 84, formerly of Lakemont and Clayton, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Lakeshore Heights Nursing Center, Gainesville.
Born September 7, 1917, in Mathis (Lakemont), Mrs. Proctor was a daughter of the late Isaac John Harvey Hunnicutt and Martha Lydia McMurray.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Proctor was the wife of the late Clyde E. Mauldin for 25 years, and the wife of the late Eugene Proctor for nine years. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Harvey Hunnicutt and John Mathis Hunnicutt, and a sister, Annie Belle Hunnicutt.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in Daniels Chapel of Daniels Mortuary & Crematory, Clayton, with the Rev. Paul Gipson of Rocky Grove Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Wiley Presbyterian Cemetery. Stephen Mauldin, James A. Mauldin, Joshua Mauldin, Joseph Mauldin, Mike Gunter and Jimmy Craft served as pallbearers.
Survivors include three sons, Marvin Edward Mauldin, Savannah, James Thomas Mauldin, Mableton, and Harold Robert Mauldin, Jefferson; brother, Hugh Graves Hunnicutt, Macon; sister, Martha Vashti Pearson, Centre, Ala.; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Walter Thomas Sr.
Walter “Buster” Thomas Sr., 94, Nicholson, formerly of Crawford, died Saturday, May 18, 2002.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Thomas was a son of the late Boykin and Jannette Thomas and was the widower of Lola Jarvis Thomas.
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a daughter, Janeva Nelson.
Services were held at noon Saturday, May 25, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Gresham officiating. Burial was in Jennings Cemetery.
Survivors include four daughters, Claria McComb and Montyne Simmons, both of Nicholson, Agnes Robinson, Dalton, Ill., and Erbityne Simmons, Atlanta; five sons, Roosevelt Wise, Decatur, Lasalle Thomas, Carlton, Esa Thomas, Acworth, and Walter Thomas and Douglas Thomas, both of Chicago, Ill.; four sisters, Mary J. Smith and Essie Tiller, both of Crawford, Ruby Taylor, Lexington, and Lola Waller, Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Sam Thomas, Crawford; 36 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.

Janet B. Williams
Ms. Janet Bennett Williams, 66, Athens, died Sunday, May 26, 2002.
A native of Rupert, W.Va., Ms. Williams was a daughter of General Beard and Mabel Allman.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kitty Bennett.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Wallace Memorial Park, Greenbrier, W.Va.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Smith, Athens, and Sandy Campbell, Commerce; three sons, Lawrence Bennett, Rupert, W.Va., George Bennett, High Point, N.C., and Jimmy Williams, Hull; one sister, Joanne Baker, Atlanta; one brother, Danny Beard, Atlanta; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Troy L. Landers
Troy Lee Landers, 77, of Braselton, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mr. Landers was born in Gwinnett County. He was the son of the late Claude Sr. and Stella Forrester Landers.
Mr. Landers had resided in Jackson County for most of his life and was a retiree of Chicopee Manufacturing Company. He was of the Baptist denomination.
Mr. Landers was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude Landers Jr. and Luther Landers, a sister, Nell Lancaster, and two grandchildren, Tina Pruitt and Chris Ward.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. J.C. Ivey officiating. Burial was in the Walnut Fork Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Landers is survived by his wife, Louise Beck Landers, Braselton; three daughters, Stella Ross, Jefferson, Carolyn Gaines, Hoschton, and Debbie Murphy, Pendergrass; five sisters, Ora Murphy and Ruth Stinchcomb, both of Hoschton, Dessie Walker, Gainesville, Ella Holcomb, Lawrenceville, and Beatrice Rockmore, Winder; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Wanda Hanson
Mrs. Wanda “Diane” Hanson, 41, of Jefferson, died Monday, July 22, 2002.
Born in Barrow County, Mrs. Hanson was a daughter of Jane Brown Ferrell, Winder, and the late Doyle Ferrell.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Pentecost United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at Pentecost United Methodist Church with the Revs. Danny Barton and Lisa Caine officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Jefferson.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Hanson is survived by her husband, Charlie Hanson, Jefferson; one son, Brian Wesley Hanson, Jefferson; one sister, Bonnie Sue Ferrell, Winder; one brother, Michael Bruce Ferrell, Winder; her grandmother, Mary Brown, Winder; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sally McDougal
Mrs. Sally McDougal, 76, of Winder, died Sunday, July 28, 2002.
Mrs. McDougal was born in Barrow County, where she had resided for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Ben and Parilee Montgomery Wilkins.
Mrs. McDougal was a retiree of Empire Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robie McDougal, and a daughter, Janice McDougal.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Kenneth Brewer, Shuford Jones and Robert Whitehead officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Josh Mathews, Justin Mathews, Jeremy Mathews, Jack McDougal, David Wilkins and Phillip Wilkins served as pallbearers.

Grace L. Martin
Mrs. Grace Langford Martin, 91, of Gillsville, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Martin was born August 18, 1910, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late James B. and Lula Victoria Hancock Langford.
Mrs. Martin was a retired educator with the Hall and Jackson County School Systems, with 38 years of service. She was a lifetime member of Holly Springs United Methodist Church, Pendergrass, and was a member of the Hall County Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert J. Martin, and eight brothers, Hoyt Langford, Dick Langford, Royce Langford, Clyde Langford, Egbert Langford, J.B. Langford Jr., Edgar Langford and Roscoe Langford.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Bob Lewis and Doug Merk officiating. Burial was in the Holly Springs United Methodist Church cemetery. Mike Isbell, Dwight Langford, Richard Langford, Hope Loggins, Whit Martin and Nick Massengill served as pallbearers.

Thomas F. Erdman Jr.
Thomas F. Erdman Jr., 79, of Ferguson, Mo., and formerly of Athens, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002.
Mr. Erdman was born in Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Thomas F. Sr. and Mary A. Norton Erdman.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a retired Southern Baptist minister. Mr. Erdman was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, Nicholson.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 29, at New Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Howard Garrison and Kenneth Dillard officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Curt Hockemeyer, Ken Seabolt, James Loggins, Andy Seabolt, Davis Ray and Jason Lowe served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were nieces and nephews.
Mr. Erdman is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Hawks Erdman, Ferguson, Mo.; one daughter, Georgia Whinery, Ferguson, Mo.; one son, Tom Stone-Erdman, Palatka, Fla.; one sister, Edith Wardell, Baton Rouge, La.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
