Mildred L. Burnette
Mrs. Mildred Lusk Burnette, 81, of Commerce, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Burnette was born September 29, 1920, in Stephens County. She was a daughter of the late Tom and Sally Terrell Lusk.
Mrs. Burnette was a homemaker and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Burnette.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Burnette, Decatur, Ill., and Ray Burnette, Toccoa; five daughters, Linda Barrett, Martin, Pam Cox, Great Mills, Md., Faye Fitzpatrick and Brenda Gillis, both of Commerce, and Autumn Garrett, Dahlonega; one sister, Fleta Mulkey, Dover, Del.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Joseph R. Faillo
Joseph Robert Faillo, 81, of Pendergrass, died Saturday, July 27, 2002.
Mr. Faillo was born in Melrose Park, Ill., to the late John and Nancy Giallombardo Faillo. He was the husband of the late Mable Everett Faillo.
Mr. Faillo was a retired security guard.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 29, at the Winder Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Ms. Julia Bossie and Jerry Cooper officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Rodney Faillo, Peachtree City, and John Faillo, Anniston, Ala.; daughter, Jacqueline Cooper, Pendergrass; brother, Sam Failla, Berkley, Ill.; sister, Corrine Euliano, Henderson, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Ellie Jordan
Mrs. Ellie Whitsel Jordan, 87, of Royston, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston.
Mrs. Jordan was born in Franklin County on May 27, 1915, a daughter of the late Albert Whitsel and the late Maggie Hanley Whitsel.
She was a seamstress, a member of Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church and was active in the African Violet Society. Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by her husband, Stuard Jordan.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Revs. Bert Synan and John Ingham officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Jordan, Royston; two sisters, Susie Garrett, Pelzer, S.C., and Dorothy Brawner, Commerce; one grandson and one great-grandson.

Edward L. Carlyle
Edward L. Carlyle, 77, of Hoschton, died Thursday, July 25, 2002.
Born in Forsyth County, Mr. Carlyle was a son of the late Robertson and Minny Parker Carlyle.
He was a retiree of York Casket Company and was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Leonard Murphy and David Pruitt officiating. Burial was in the Mulberry Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Carlyle is survived by his wife, Beatrice Hayes Carlyle, Hoschton; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Randall Faulkner, Hoschton; daughter, Kathy McDaniel, Hoschton; sisters, Eileen Hayes, Jefferson, and Dot Nix, Stockbridge; brothers, the Rev. Gary Carlyle, Hoschton, the Rev. Everest Carlisle and Bobby Carlisle, both of Braselton, and Dean Carlyle, Winder; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

James M. Bryant
James Marvin Bryant, 77, of Jefferson, formerly of Franklin County, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Bryant was born in Franklin County on February 8, 1925. He was a son of the late James Washington Bryant and the late Liza Jane Looney Bryant.
Mr. Bryant was a retired farmer and was of the Baptist denomination. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by three children, J.M. and A.M. Bryant and Annie Sue Bryant, one brother, Thomas Bryant, and three sisters, Ella Ware, Addie Whited and Susie Hill.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 26, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Robbie Black and Buddy Barron officiating. Burial was in the Zidon Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, Lula Mae Dowell Bryant, Jefferson; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Leonard Jones, Jefferson; brother, Lonnie O. Bryant, Lilburn; sister, Ethel Barnes, Royston; grandchildren, Brian Keith Jones, Hoschton, and Melissa Ann Jones, Jefferson; and great-granddaughter, Samantha Chase Jones, Lawrenceville.

Wilbur C. Wilkes
Wilbur Clyde Wilkes, of Lake City, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Fayette Community Hospital.
Mr. Wilkes served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired foreman for Truck Line.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Parkway Garden Chapel, Forest Park, with the Revs. Bill Thomas and Lee Lacey officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Cemetery.
Mr. Wilkes is survived by his wife, Pearl Wilkes, Lake City; a son, Michael Wilkes, Morrow; a sister, Lanelle Miller, Jefferson; a brother, Harry Wilkes, Buford; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Howard C. ‘Red’ Hinesley
Howard Carlton “Red” Hinesley, 82, a native of Jackson County and a longtime resident of Athens, died Friday, July 26, 2002.
Mr. Hinesley was the son of the late Henry and Ola Lavender Hinesley.
He was a Chevron Dealer in Normaltown until his retirement after 36 years of service, and was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Hinesley was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Air Force in Europe.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Burial was in Oconee Hill Cemetery. Charles Byrd, James Haligan, Victor Nix, Hugh Logan, Richard Jafiulevicius, A.O. Parks, Keith Summers, Jimmy Hale and Jack Holcomb served as pallbearers.
Mr. Hinesley is survived by his wife, Rosena Barry Hinesley, Athens; brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Betty Hinesley, Dawsonville; and sisters-in-law, Ina Rumsey Hinesley and Katie Lousie “Sally” ZeBerg.

Larry D. Downey
Larry Dale Downey, 52, of Commerce, died Thursday, July 25, 2002.
Born in Lynn County, Ala., Mr. Downey was a son of the late Floyd Monroe and Dorothy Ann Cooper Downey.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during Vietnam, and was employed as a dispatcher for McClains, Athens. Mr. Downey was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Sam Dorsey officiating.
Mr. Downey is survived by his wife, Karlene Hill Downey; one daughter, Paris Dawn Epps, Winterville; one son, Shawn Keith Stilwell, Danielsville; one sister, Billie Owsley, Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, Robert Downey, Tampa, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Tyler Stilwell, Trenton Epps, Alexys Stilwell and Ashlyn Stilwell.

Hubert S. Williams
Hubert S. Williams, 77, of Jefferson, died Thursday, July 25, 2002.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Williams was a son of the late Carl and Mary Williams.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Williams.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, in the chapel of Forestglen Mortuary, Jefferson, with the Rev. Derrick Jackson officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery, Homer.
Mr. Williams is survived by a brother, C.B. Williams, Roswell.

Trudie Hooper
Mrs. Trudie Green Christian Hooper, 91, of Watkinsville, died Saturday, July 27, 2002.
A native of Madison County and a longtime resident of Oconee County, Mrs. Hooper was born May 2, 1911, a daughter of the late William Franklin Christian and Alice Leitha Porterfield Christian. She was the wife of the late Arthur Hooper.
Mrs. Hooper was a homemaker and a member of Freeman Creek Baptist Church.
“She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor,” said family members. “One of her passions was quilt making. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and enjoyed their visits to her home.”
Mrs. Hooper was preceded in death by two sons, Ralph Hooper and Robert Hooper, daughter-in-law, Ellie Lee Hooper, and sisters and brothers, Coy Christian, Claude Christian, Bill Christian, Izora Graham, Cornelle Christian and Ruth Huff.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Freeman Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Giles and Hoyt Johnson officiating. The Rev. Elmer Butler provided music. Burial was in Farmington Cemetery. Mrs. Hooper’s grandchildren served as pallbearers and honorary escort.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Loretta Hooper, Pendergrass, Rufus and Betty Hooper, Monroe, Roy and Vivian Hooper, Colbert, and Raymond and Rita Hooper, Statham; daughter-in-law, Connie Hooper, Farmington; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Mrs. Jessie Mitchem.
