Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lighthouse World Outreach Center with The Rev. Raymond Hardy officiating.

Dr. Marshall Hinton Everett
Dr. Marshall Hinton Everett, 82 of Loganville died Sunday, March 12, 2006. Funeral services were held at 2pm Thursday, March 16 at Mountain View Baptist Tabernacle, Snellville with remains placed in state at 1:30 pm. The Rev. Carl Leach, Jr., Dr. Thurman Wade and Dr. Don Richards officiated. Burial at Gwinnett Memorial Park, Lawrenceville. Dr. Everett was a loving father and grandfather and was respected and honored by all his family as a man of God. He always lived what he preached to others. He started preaching in August of 1951 and pastored 14 churches over the years. He founded and pastored Fellowship Baptist Church, Stone Mountain and Gwinnett Hall Baptist Church and Bible College, Lawrenceville.

He was preceded in death by his wife: the late Mary Annie Farmer Witcher; sisters: the late Ruby Nunally and the late Marzee Casper; brothers: the late Cawley Witcher, the late Millard Franklin Witcher, the late Pirkle Witcher, and the late Jack Witcher.

E. Earl Mallard, Jr.
Earl Mallard of Monroe died March, 9 2006 following a brief illness. He was 77. A native of Shellman, GA he was the son of the late E. Earl Mallard, Sr. and Gladye Weathers Mallard. He graduated from the University of Georgia and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant and Platoon Leader and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He then returned to earn a law degree from the University of Georgia where he was president of his senior law class.

Mrs. Ruth Knight Boss, age 93, of Monroe, formerly of Covington, died March 8, 2006. She had lived in Newton County and in the Covington Mill area of Covington for over fifty years before moving to Monroe. Mrs. Boss is survived by nieces and nephews, Sammie and Martha Knight of Monroe, Gene and Patsy Knight of Loganville, Jerry and Linda Knight of Monticello, Mackie Knight of Snellville and other nieces and nephews.

Billy Ray Ashe, Jr., 47 of Monroe died March 5, 2006. A native of Fulton County, he was the son of the late Billy Ray Ashe, Sr. and Hazel Casey Ashe. A former resident of Palmetto, GA., he was a construction worker and resided in Monroe for the past year and a half. The remains were cremated. A private family service will be held later.

Joan Tarpley Queen, 79, of High Shoals, died March 6, 2006 in the comfort of her own home, after an extended illness. Born in Clarke County May 28, 1926, Mrs. Queen was the daughter of the late Joel Cleveland and Gussie Evans Tarpley. She lived most of her life in Clarke and Oconee counties. She was employed by Southern Bell for eight years before beginning a family. She was a member of High Shoals Christian Church.

Charles E. Shipp, 67, of Lawrenceville died Feb. 28, 2006. A native of Randolph Co, AL, he was the son of the late William and Jessie Horton Shipp. A 1963 graduate of Auburn University, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War receiving the Air Force Medal. He retired in 1998 as a pilot with Delta Airlines. Funeral services were held March 3, 2006 in Center Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Marion Prather officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Steven R. Stewart, age 50, of Covington died Sat. March 4, 2006. Mr. Stewart was a life-long resident of Newton County. He had been employed with American Dehydrated Foods since 1983, where he served as Vice President for Procurement. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed quail, pheasant, dove and deer hunting. He was a family man that enjoyed boating on the lakes with his family and motorcycle riding.

Van G. Whitley, age 85, of Monroe, died Wed. March 1, 2006. He is survived by daughters, Melanie Whitley, Seattle, WA; and Vannette Whitley Chandler, Stone Mountain; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Mr. Whitley was a native of Atlanta, and was retired from Georgia Power Company after 46 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army as Master Sergeant and received the Rifle Range Award, Bronze Star, Certificate of Merit, European Theater, Infantry Combat Badge, Member of First United Methodist Church of Stone Mountain, President of men’s Bible Class and served on official Board of Stewards.

James R. Jordan, 80 of Oxford, died Feb. 26, 2006. The son of the late Jettie Arthur and Callie Lillian Amerson Jordan, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served on the U.S.S. Langley in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post #77 in Conyers and a member of Zingara Lodge #519 FA&M in Rockdale County. He was a retired pharmaceutical sales representative, and former owner of Jordan’s Grocery in Conyers. He is preceded in death by his sisters: Blanche Jordan and Julia Jordan; brother: Charles Jordan.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Anne Gallant, 58, of Vero Beach, died Feb. 26, 2006 at her home after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Gallant was born Nov. 3, 1947 in Boston, MA to Theodore Parker and Barbara Hawks Harding. She was raised in Concord, MA. She graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School in 1965 and attended Boston University from 1965 through 1966. Mrs. Gallant received her Licensed Practical Nurse diploma in 1973 from the Shepard-Gill School of Nursing of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.

A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he was Store Manager for White’s Enterprises for 30 years, and after retirement worked for Patrick’s Feed & Seed and Cohen’s Mens Store. Mr. Lord was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he participated in the Silver Saints, and also attended Red Oak United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Recycled Teenagers. He was married to the late Ruth Smith Castleberry until her death in 1998.
