Paul Heavy Booth, 60, of Nicholson, died Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at his residence of an extended illness.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Booth was a son of the late Willie D. and Addie Pauline Bridges Booth.
He was a retired logger.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 31, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Donald Wilson and Phil Parks officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, William and Kathy Booth, Commerce; son, Clifford Booth, Commerce; brothers, Billy Booth, Daniel Booth and Lloyd Booth, all of Hull, and C.D. Booth, Jefferson; sisters, Annie Mae Kitchens and Elizabeth Kitchens, both of Hull; and four grandchildren.

Eva E. Ray
Mrs. Eva Elisabeth Ray, 71, of Commerce, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Ray was born May 27, 1931, in Germany, a daughter of Edmund and Barbara Felsheim Kunkel. She was a homemaker and of the Catholic denomination. Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her husband, Mack J. Ray.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 2, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Verlin Reece officiating.
Mrs. Ray is survived by a brother, Hans Felsheim, Canada; and a sister, Marianne Schachner, Germany.

James Simmons
James Simmons, 68, of Winder, died Sunday, February 2, 2003.
Mr. Simmons was born in Barrow County, a son of the late Glenn and Louree Casper Simmons.
He was employed at Johns Mansville for 26 years and was of the Presbyterian denomination.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, in Smith Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Kenneth Deaton officiating. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife, Faye Simmons, Winder; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Lynn Simmons and Richard and Tammy Simmons, all of Winder; sisters, Jeanette Wilson, Winder, and Delores Potts, Jefferson; and grandchildren, Colt, Chase, Justin and Heather Simmons.

Hattie M. Boswell
Mrs. Hattie Mae Boswell, 83, of Commerce, died Sunday, February 2, 2003, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce, after an extended illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Boswell was a daughter of the late Andrew Echols Sr. and Harriett Echols.
She was a homemaker and retired from Harmony Grove Mills. Mrs. Boswell was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Boswell, two sons, Jewell and Larry Boswell, and a grandson, Chuck Boswell.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.
Survivors include son, Ronald Boswell, Baldwin; sisters, Lucille Greenway, Lula, and Kathryn Hensley, Maysville; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

William R. Mitchell
William Robert Mitchell, 85, of Commerce, died Monday, February 3, 2003, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens.
Mr. Mitchell was born April 8, 1917, in Lee County, Fla. He was a son of the late Robert and Lois Swint Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell was a retired LP Gas serviceman and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. He was also a member of Saints Alive, the American Legion and the Elks Lodge, of Ft. Myers, Fla. Mr. Mitchell was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 6, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. David Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Raney Mitchell, Commerce; a daughter, Martha Cartee, Commerce; and a niece, Anne Daves, Chuluota, Fla.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Ruth Barnett, 81, of Nicholson, died Monday, February 3, 2003, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce, after an extended illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Barnett was a daughter of the late Joseph and Callie Barnes. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Methodist Church cemetery, Nicholson.
Survivors include sons, William Barnett, Nicholson, and Jewell Barnett, Yorktown, Va.; brother, Tommy Joe Barnes, Glenville; sister, Viva Brooks, Locust Grove; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Felton Arnold Grier, 62, of 179 Hill Street, Commerce, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003.

Nellie L. Adams
Miss Nellie Lee Adams, 90, of Danielsville, died Monday, February 3, 2003, at University Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Madison County on June 25, 1912, Miss Adams was the daughter of the late Charles Alfred and Ora Berrong Adams.
She was retired from Mays Manufacturing and was a member of Moons Grove Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 7, in the Erastus Christian Church cemetery with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating.
Miss Adams is survived by a brother, Gene Adams, Danielsville.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce.

Mrs. Mary Frances Carter, 73, of Statham, died Sunday, February 2, 2003, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Carter was born December 17, 1929, in Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Seaborn and Ammie Bonds Cromer.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Douglas Duncan and Russell Page officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, Maxie Lee Carter, Statham; one son, David Carter, Statham; three daughters, Debra Brock and Wanda Carter, both of Statham, and Brenda Palmer, Braselton; five brothers, Carson Cromer, Martinsville, Va., Doyle Cromer, J.C. Cromer and William Cromer, all of Commerce, and Mitchell Cromer, Baldwin; one sister, Faye Jenkins, Commerce; and five grandchildren.

Elmer R. Martin
Elmer Roy Martin, 71, of Jefferson, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at his son’s residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Martin was born May 25, 1931, in Jackson County. He was the son of the late John and Selic Whitlock Martin.
Mr. Martin worked as a forklift operator with John Manville Corp. and was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Jefferson.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Chris Segars officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Rosie Martin, Jefferson; three daughters, Brenda Faulkner and Arlene Martin, both of Jefferson, and Wanda Jones, Statham; one son, Johnny Martin, Commerce; three sisters, Ruby Bagwell and Evelyn Davis, both of Jefferson, and Johnnie Carithers, Florida; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Martha A. Blackstock
Mrs. Martha Ann Blackstock, 51, of Hoschton, died Saturday, April 5, 2003.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Blackstock was the daughter of Marie K. Apel Davidson, Hoschton, and Wilburn N. Davidson, Mississippi.
She was employed as office manager of Twilight Construction Co. and attended St. Mary’s and St. Martha’s Episcopal Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in Smith’s Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder. Burial was in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blackstock is survived by her husband, John Michael Blackstock, Hoschton; and two children, Justin Blackstock, Hoschton, and Chris Cronic, Athens.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to the American Heart Association.
