Taft ‘Pete’ Leach
Taft Lee “Pete” Leach, 68, of Cornelia, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Habersham County Medical Center.
Born in Habersham County on August 10, 1934, Mr. Leach was a son of the late Monroe and Hattie Belle Tanksley Leach. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Leach was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Leach.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery with the Revs. Roy Lee Mitchell and Lloyd Free officiating.
Survivors include two sisters, Delores Leach, Salisbury, N.C., and Christine Bowles, Gastonia, N.C.; one brother, Willis “Dub” Leach, Commerce; one grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Kathleen H. Vaughn
Mrs. Kathleen Hix Vaughn, 84, of Commerce, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
Mrs. Vaughn was born April 14, 1918, in Jackson County, a daughter of the late C.L. and Roxie Reed Hix.
She retired from Commerce Manufacturing and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce. Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Vaughn Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the First Baptist Church of Commerce with the Revs. Kent Cranford and Jessie Mealor officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Millie Vaughn, Commerce; granddaughter, Lisa Vaughn, Commerce; brother, Wayne Hix, Danielsville; and sisters, Sara Dell Hix and Agnes Whitlock, both of Commerce.
The family was to have received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce.

Charles A. ‘Tony’ Shoemake
Charles Anthony “Tony” Shoemake, 43, of Chestnut Mountain, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Hall County, Mr. Shoemake was a son of Mary Louise Fricks Shoemake, Chestnut Mountain, and the late Winford Shoemake.
He was employed with Wrigley Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Chestnut Mountain Baptist Church. Mr. Shoemake was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Shoemake.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in the chapel of Little-Davenport Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Rev. Truman Humphries officiating. Burial was in Hillside Memorial Gardens, Gainesville.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Shoemake is survived by his wife, Beverly Shoemake, Chestnut Mountain; son, David Anthony Shoemake, Chestnut Mountain; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Nicole “Nicky” and Charles Laurie, Chestnut Mountain; sister, Kathy Taylor, Chestnut Mountain; grandsons, Cameron Shoemake and Caleb Laurie, both of Chestnut Mountain; paternal grandmother, Lucille Shoemake, Chestnut Mountain; maternal grandmother, Margie Crawford, Chestnut Mountain; mother-in-law and father-in-law, David and Mary Simonds, Braselton; very special friends, David and Jennie Dempsey; and several nieces and nephews.

Anthony P. ‘Tony’ Kesler
Anthony Parks “Tony” Kesler, 52, of Carnesville, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Kesler was born May 2, 1950, in Banks County. He was employed as the preparation spinning supervisor with Mt. Vernon Mills, Commerce, and was a member of Nails Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. Roy Rogers officiating.
Mr. Kesler is survived by his wife, Lane Hill Kesler, Carnesville; son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Dianna Kesler, Carnesville; son, Matthew Kesler, Carnesville; his mother, Dorothy Maxine Bell Kesler, Carnesville; his father, Parks Kesler, Hartwell; brothers, Doug Kesler, Carnesville, and Henry Kesler, Robert Kesler and David Kesler, all of Hartwell; and a grandson, Seth Kesler.

Charlie Barrett
‘Mustang Man’
Charlie Barrett, 69, of Marietta, a native of Jackson County, died Sunday, April 6, 2003.
Mr. Barrett was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a retired PBX repairman with Lucent Technology. He was founding member #58 of the Mustang Club of America, the Dixie Ventures Auto Club and a founding member of the Marietta Auto Fair. Mr. Barrett was also a member of the C C Riders Car Club, and was known throughout the Marietta area as the “Mustang Man.”
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, in Jonquil Chapel of Castellaw Funeral Home, Smyrna, with the Rev. Ray Jones officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson.
Survivors include two daughters, Candy Bennett and Karen Gooden, both of Marietta; two sons, Jeff Barrett, Mableton, and Tim Barrett, Marietta; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Johnnie D. Collins
Mrs. Johnnie Denise Jones Collins, 45, of Commerce, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens.
Born February 26, 1958, in Hall County, Mrs. Collins was a daughter of the late Talmadge Eugene and Winnie Blanch Smallwood Jones.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Jim McLendon officiating. Burial will be in the Springway Baptist Church Cemetery, Gainesville.
Mrs. Collins is survived by her husband, Johnny “Cooter” Collins, Commerce; one brother, Travis Jones, Maysville; and three sisters, Janice Bost and Judy McCannon, both of Pendergrass, and Ruthie Kitchens, Comer.

Franklin E. Crumley
Franklin Edward Crumley, 62, of Danielsville, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Athens Regional Medical Center of an extended illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Crumley was a son of the late Walker and Ida Brown Crumley.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Bill Manus officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mr. Crumley is survived by his wife, Ester Crumley, of the home; three sons, Eddie Crumley, Ted Crumley and Chad Crumley, all of Danielsville; three brothers, William Crumley and Bobby Crumley, both of Commerce, and Dickie Crumley, Danielsville; four sisters, Deanie Sears, Ada Hammond and Loretta Barnes, all of Commerce, and Brenda Smith, Danielsville; and eight grandchildren.

Charlotte L. Olson
Mrs. Charlotte L. Olson, 80, of Commerce, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003.
A native of New Castle, Pa., Mrs. Olson was a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Burr McKone Rogers. She was the wife of the late Dr. Donald Olson D.D.S.
Mrs. Olson was a graduate of Muskingkum College in New Concorde, Ohio, and was active in the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts in the 1970’s. She was a member of the D.A.R.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce, with Dr. Tom Lewis officiating.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Dr. Peter Markvo, Commerce; son, Mark Olson, and his wife, Canton, Ohio; brother, Burr Rogers, Byron Center, Mich.; sister, Virginia Reed, Catalina Island, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Ellwyn, Stephanie and John Markvo.

Lounette H. Shaw
Mrs. Lounette Hayes Shaw, 86, of Pendergrass, died Sunday, August 10, 2003, at B.J.C. Medical Center, Commerce, of a brief illness.
Mrs. Shaw was born March 7, 1917, in Hall County, a daughter of the late Alvin and Maybelle Blackwell Hayes.
She was a homemaker and a member of Walnut Fork Baptist Church, Hoschton. She was also a member of the Fairview Community Club, the Farm Bureau Ladies Auxiliary and the Happy Day Club.
Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Shaw, and a son, Darrell Shaw.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Tim Strickland and Charles Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the Walnut Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. Dillan Greeson, Stephen Greeson, Lendgrin Maddox and Chad Robbins served as pallbearers.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Larry Greeson, Alto, and Judy and Jimmy Pethel, Talmo; sister, Eura Mae Gilstrap, Winder; brother, Myron Hayes, Macon; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Grace Fuller
Mrs. Grace Hood Fuller, 99, of Charleston, S.C., died Friday, August 8, 2003, at Charleston Nursing Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Mrs. Fuller was born March 28, 1904, in Commerce, to Clement Jefferson and Grace Goss Hood. She was a graduate of Gunston Hall School in Washington, D.C., and the National Park Seminary Junior College in Forrest Glenn, Md., where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
Mrs. Fuller was an avid gardener and a member of the Garden Club of Georgia, and founded the Commerce Garden Club.
She was married
to Willis Fuller and they had two children. Mrs. Fuller lived for many years in Athens, where she was a Librarian with the Athens Regional Library and served as President of the Athens Garden Club.
She lived in Charleston since 1970 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston.
Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, August 11, in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Fuller Hester, Montgomery, Ala.; one son, Willis Fuller Jr., Charleston, S.C.; four grandchildren, Melissa Fuller Brown, Charleston, S.C., Dr. Willis Fuller III, Anderson, S.C., Carlotta Hester, Washington, D.C., and Benjamin Hester, Atlanta; and four great-grandchildren.
