MRS. POPHAM
Homemaker
DEMOREST - Mrs. Helen Shirley Popham, 80, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Popham was born in Rabun County on October 9, 1920, a daughter of the late Milford and Loma Taylor Shirley.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m Friday, August 3, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Tom Mewborn and Conny Shirley officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Popham is survived by her husband, John M. Popham Sr., Demorest; one daughter, Shirley P. Smith, Demorest; two sons, John M. Popham Jr. and Roger H. Popham, both of Demorest; one sister, Ann Darnell, Clarkesville; one brother, Conny H. Shirley, Clarkesville; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. LEE
CORNELIA - William R. Lee Jr., 64, died Monday, August 13, 2001, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia.

MRS. ALLEN
Homer Presbyterian Church member
COMMERCE - Mrs. Geraldine Griffin Allen, 84, died Wednesday, August 8, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Allen was born on August 18, 1916, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Scott and Mamie Wood Griffin and the widow of Bob Allen. Mrs. Allen was a retired textile employee of Harmony Grove Mills and was a member of Homer Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Allen and Dianne Matthews, both of Commerce; Sherbie Harris, of Jefferson; three sons, Truman Allen, Doug Allen and William Allen, all of Commerce; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, on Friday, August 10, 2001, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Curtis Green officiating. iIntermentfollowed in the Homer Presbyterian Church cemetery in Homer.
Pallbearers were Tim Pritchett, Adam Matthews, Scot Allen, Coe Allen, Brian Hoover, Rusty Cheek, Tracey Talley and Fran Martinez.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Patrick D. Renshaw
Patrick Daniel Renshaw, 44, of Baldwin, died Sunday, November 4, 2001, at his residence following a sudden illness.
Mr. Renshaw was born in Ocean Side, Calif., on August 28, 1957. He was employed by B.J.'s Supply Company and was in the U.S. Marines. Mr. Renshaw was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. James Harvey officiating.
Survivors include one daughter, Joanne Renshaw, Alto; one son, Robert Renshaw, Alto; mother and step-father, Jacquelyn and Dock Bryson, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; father, Gerald Renshaw, California; one brother, Jefferry Bryson, Avon Park, Fla.; and two sisters, Pamela Dawn Robey, Miami, Fla., and Kathy Carroll, Callahan, Fla.
Memorials may be made to Habersham Bank, Trust Fund for Patrick Renshaw, P.O. Box 1980, Cornelia, GA 30531.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Girlie G. Watkins
Mrs. Girlie G. Watkins, 85, of Winder, died Monday, November 5, 2001.
Mrs. Watkins was born in Barrow County, where she had resided for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Tom and Mae McDaniel Griffith.
Mrs. Watkins was a retiree of Barrow Manufacturing Company and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, D.J. Crowe, and her second husband, Steed Watkins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 8, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Greg Moore and Shane Crowe officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include one daughter, Imogene Garrett, Hiawassee; one son, Bo Crowe, Winder; one sister, Callie Borders, Gillsville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bernice M. Davis
Mrs. Bernice Mae Blair Davis, 81, of Demorest, died Monday, October 29, 2001, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on July 26, 1920, Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late Oscar and Omie James Blair.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Community Baptist Church. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Davis, a brother, Burns Blair, and sisters, Mary Lizzie Davis and Australia Blair Williams.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 1, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Billy Burrell and John Humphries officiating. Burial was in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, J.L. and Barbara Davis, Demorest; brother and sister-in-law, Garnett and Christine Blair, Mt. Airy; sister and brother-in-law, Cleo and Jr. Ayers, Mt. Airy; grandson, James Davis, Demorest; and grandson and wife, Ed and Jennifer Davis, Toccoa.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Julia G. Riddle
Mrs. Julia Gilstrap Riddle, 60, of Alto, died Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on February 28, 1941, Mrs. Riddle was a daughter of the late Seaborn and Beulah Pless Gilstrap.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Mrs. Riddle was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Riddle.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Revs. Sanford Kimbrell and Anthony Shore officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary R. Trigg, Cleveland; special friends, Christy Martin and Craig MacGillivray, both of Alto, and Tommy Cash, Toccoa; one brother, Burton Gilstrap, Alto; one sister, Rosita Glenn, Gainesville; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Scarlett Whechel, 4050 Hwy. 115, Demorest, GA 30535.

Leila M. Carithers
Mrs. Leila Mae Carithers, 71, of Commerce, died Friday, November 2, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Carithers was born September 18, 1930, in Ocilla, Irwin County. She was the daughter of the late Gus Wright Gratham and Vera Wylene Parker.
Mrs. Carithers was a graduate of Berry College, Norman Park, earning a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She was a retired teacher. Mrs. Carithers was a member of Erastus Christian Church, Commerce, a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of the North Georgia Family Campers.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 4, at Erastus Christian Church with the Revs. Jim Lugo and Carl Beckham officiating. Burial was in the Carithers Family Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Carithers is survived by her husband, Hix Carithers, Commerce; one daughter, Cathy McDaniel, Commerce; one brother, William Gratham, Virginia; and one grandson, Anthony Licata.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Louise P. Boswell
Mrs. Louise P. Boswell, 71, Commerce, died Tuesday, November 6, 2001.
Mrs. Boswell was born in LaFrance, S.C., a daughter of the late Clifford and Quida Ramsey Pitts.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce. Mrs. Boswell was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Jewell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mrs. Boswell is survived by her husband, George Boswell, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Cameron and Kelley Boswell, Commerce; one daughter and son-in-law, Candice B. and Shannon Hoxit, Danielsville; one sister, Caroldine DeLoach, Riverdale; three grandchildren, Sheila Cassidy and Madison and Montana Hoxit, Danielsville; a niece, Terrie Lynn Wood; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Little-Ward Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara N. Poole
Mrs. Barbara N. Poole, 67, of Commerce, died Thursday, November 1, 2001, at her residence.
Mrs. Poole was born February 8, 1934, in Anderson County, S.C. She was a daughter of the late Grady Henry and Elise Christina Miles Nichols.
Mrs. Poole was a retired emergency management coordinator for Gwinnett County and was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Banks County Planning Commission.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 4, at New Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Scott officiating. Burial was in the Poole Family Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Poole is survived by her husband, Roy Poole, Commerce; one son, Roy Poole Jr., Commerce; one daughter, Sherri Blackburn, Commerce; three brothers, David Nichols, Commerce, Gene Nichols, Lula, and James Ray Nichols, Maysville; one sister, Virginia Evans, Commerce; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Estelle W. Newsome
Mrs. Estelle Wilbanks Newsome, 91, of the Broad River Community, Baldwin, died Monday, February 11, 2002, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Newsome was born in Banks County on October 25, 1910. She was a daughter of the late Gilliam Thomas Wilbanks and Samantha Payne Wilbanks. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Newsome, and five brothers, Travis Wilbanks, Telford Wilbanks, Sevier Wilbanks, Virgil Wilbanks and G.T. Wilbanks.
Mrs. Newsome was retired from Carwood Manufacturing Company as an inspector with several years of service. She was a member of Broad River Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Burial was in the Broad River Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Terry Purcell officiating at graveside.
Mrs. Newsome is survived by her husband, Arzo Newsome, Baldwin; two daughters, Brenda Whitfield, Baldwin, and Elora Watkins, Cornelia; two sons, Lilburn Newsome, Baldwin, and Gary Newsome, Clarkesville; five sisters, Vernice Wilkinson, Cornelia, Ruby Gailey, Christine Wilbanks and Elsie Mae Andrews, all of Baldwin, and Avoline Chitwood, Canon; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
