Wiley Grier
Wiley Grier, 62, of Alto, died Sunday, February 10, 2002, at Habersham County Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Born in Hall County on February 26, 1949, Mr. Grier was a son of the late Alvin B. and Belle Armour Grier.
He was a retired textile worker and was a member of Alto Congregational Holiness Church. Mr. Grier was preceded in death by two brothers, Otis and Dillard Grier.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, at Alto Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Anthony Shore, Leon Brown, Scott Ledbetter and Clyde Garrison officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mr. Grier is survived by his wife, Helen Oliver Grier, Alto; daughter, Carrie Grier, Alto; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Jenny Grier and Jeff and Misty Grier, all of Alto; brothers, A.M., Alvin Jr., Van, Roy and E.D. Grier, all of Alto, Garnett Grier, Lula, and Limule Grier, Newnan; sisters, Dorothy Ward and Geraldine Grier, Alto, and Ruth Swann, Clifton Ford, Va.; and grandchildren, Chase, William, Deanna, Hope and Alexis Grier.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

Hannelore V. Good
Mrs. Hannelore ³Helen² Volk Good, 72, of Lula, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Good was born August 12, 1929, in Germany. She was a daughter of the late Herman and Martha Inglefried Volk.
Mrs. Good was a homemaker and was of the Luthern faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kenneth Good Sr.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Jerry Payne officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include one daughter, Lori Braselton, Hoschton; two sons, Donald Herman Good, Dawsonville, and John Kenneth Good Jr., St. Augustine, Fla.; and one grandchild.
Evans Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Betty L. Hulsey
Mrs. Betty L. Hulsey, 49, of Mt. Airy, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at Habersham County Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Anderson, S.C., on July 27, 1952, Mrs. Hulsey was a daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Towe Harris.
She was a homemaker and was a member of New Birth Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 9, at New Birth Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Loudermilk and Mike Wilson officiating. Burial was in Level Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Hulsey is survived by her husband, Kent Hulsey, Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Brent Holcomb, Homer; son, Kevin Bennett, California; brother, James Harris, Augusta; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Julian and Verlene Dixon Hulsey, Mt. Airy; sisters, Henrietta O¹Dell and Mary Clark, both of Hartwell, and Virginia Billings, Starr, S.C.; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Keith and Amy Higgins Hulsey, Gainesville.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

Nelle K. Bonds
Mrs. Nelle Kimsey Bonds, 81, of Lula, died Sunday, February 10, 2002, at Habersham County Medical Center following a short illness.
Mrs. Bonds was born in Habersham County on March 27, 1920. She was a daughter of the late Leonard and Jessie Watson Kimsey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doc L. Bonds.
Mrs. Bonds retired from Carwood Manufacturing Company, after 34 years of service, and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Banks County. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Revs. Ralph O. Smith and Bethel Midgett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, David and Anita Bonds, Maysville, and Denver and Kathy Bond and Deveret and Jackie Bond, all of Gillsville; and five grandchildren, Misty Bond, Becky Bond, Michael Bond, Kimberly Bond and Lori Bond, all of Gillsville.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.

Bennie W. McKie
Bennie Walter McKie, 77, of Comer, died Tuesday, February 5, 2002.
A native of Banks County, Mr. McKie was a son of the late Thomas Neal and Leala Hanley McKie.
He had been employed with Georgia Power in ground and building maintenance and was a member of Comer Baptist Church. Mr. McKie was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil McKie, Paul McKie and Felton McKie, and three sisters, Jessie Watson, Louise Seagraves and Eula Hall.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 7, in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Stewart Lang officiating. Burial was in Meadow Cemetery. Mr. McKie¹s nephews served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Lyvader Fields McKie; one sister, Sue Whitlowe, Charlotte, N.C.; and one brother, Ralph McKie, Matthews, N.C.
Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Van Leuven
Mrs. Ruby Jean Gray Van Leuven, 45, of Carnesville, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston.
Born September 26, 1956, in Jackson County, Mrs. Van Leuven was the daughter of Joyce Whitsel Gray, Carnesville, and the late George Gray.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Canon Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, February 11, at the B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville. Burial was in the Middle River Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, David Van Leuven; three sons, John Christopher Slusher, Goldsboro, N.C., Matthew Keith Fields, Bowersville, and Brandon James Van Leuven, Carnesville; and two brothers, Randy Dale Gray, Carnesville, and Ricky Dave Gray, Lavonia.
Ginn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Inez P. Verner
Mrs. Inez Patterson Verner, 87, of the Bold Spring Community, Carnesville, died Saturday, February 9, 2002, at DeKalb Medical Center, Decatur.
Born July 16, 1914, in Franklin County, Mrs. Verner was the daughter of the late Robert Marion and Beatrice Wilmot Patterson.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Carnesville Eastern Star Chapter and served as its first Worthy Matron.
Mrs. Verner was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Freeman Verner, two sisters, Arlie Vaughan and Cleo Ryan, and one brother, Claude J. Patterson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, at Indian Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Stacey officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Verner Skelton, Lilburn; one son, Robert E. Verner Sr., Pasadena, Texas; three brothers, Robert K. Patterson, Cumming, Grayson Patterson, Oakwood, and Marvin Patterson, Covington; one sister, Margaret Patterson, Gainesville; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Ginn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence L. Day
Clarence Lonnie Day, 73, of Carnesville, died Saturday, February 9, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mr. Day was born October 4, 1928, in Opilaka, Ala., a son of the late Clarence Lonnie Jr. and Dossie Mae Davis Day.
He was a graduate of Georgia State University and was an engineer for Southern Bell, retiring after 37 years of employment. Mr. Day served in the Army Airborne and in the Naval Reserves. He was a member of Allens United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 11, at Allens United Methodist Church with the Rev. Merritt Waters officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Day is survived by his wife, Mary Katherine Coleman Day; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Cecil Bramlett, Greenville, S.C.; grandson, Chip Garrett, Greenville, S.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Charles and Barbara Day McCampbell, Marietta; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Millie Coleman, Newnan; sister-in-law, Shirley Coleman, Douglasville; and several nieces and nephews.
Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, was in charge of arrangements.

David E. Carver
David Edward ³Leroy² Carver, 48, of Carnesville, died Tuesday, February 5, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born February 19, 1953, in Knoxville, Tenn., Mr. Carver was a son of Viola Grace Wise Carver, Knoxville, Tenn., and the late Edward Leroy Carver.
He was a poultry worker with Fieldale Farms and was a member of the Church of God In Thee Now, Newton, N.C.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m Saturday, February 9, in the New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Jonathan Swing officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include one daughter, Daisy Maevell Carver, Newton, N.C.; and one sister, Gina Thomas, Knoxville, Tenn.
Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, was in charge of arrangements.

Charles R. Newberry
Charles Richard Newberry, 71, of Alto, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Born September 26, 1930, in Rome, Mr. Newberry was the son of the late John and Nora Mae Gossett Newberry.
He previously worked for Ford Motor Company and was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Newberry was preceded in death by a brother, Hollis Newberry.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at New Vision Worship Center with the Rev. Bobby Griffin officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia.
