Donald E. Hill
Donald E. Hill, 45, of Covington, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Born in Fulton County on December 23, 1956, Mr. Hill was a son of the late David and Bessie Sams Hill.
He was employed as a H.V.A.C. contractor.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Gerald Mitton officiating. Burial was in the Hill Family Cemetery.
Mr. Hill is survived by his wife, Jackie Hill, Covington; two sons, Cody Hill and Drew Hill, both of Covington; three brothers, Orion C. Hill, Covington, Thomas W. Hill, Comer, and David Hill Jr., Maysville; and three sisters, Jeanie Gordon, Covington, and Judy Redmond and Linda Scoggins, both of Maysville.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sarah D. Perry
Mrs. Sarah Dell Adams Perry, 77, of Hull, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at Family Life Nursing Home.
Mrs. Perry was born November 20, 1924, in Madison County. She was a daughter of the late Charlie and Ora Berrong Adams.
Mrs. Perry was a homemaker and was a member of Gordon Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Perry.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Gordon Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robert Passmore and Kenneth Dillard officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, David Perry, Athens, and Rodney Perry, Hull; one daughter, Dianne Pless, Toccoa; one brother, Gene Adams, Danielsville; one sister, Nell Adams, Athens; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

Hubert R. Mauldin
Hubert Ray Mauldin, 77, of Baldwin, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Mauldin was born in Paulding County on July 28, 1925. He was a son of the late George Washington and Allie Mae Bullock Mauldin.
Mr. Mauldin was retired from Schnadig Corporation, after 30 years of service, and served in the National Guard. He was a member of New Birth Baptist Church and served as a deacon of his church.
Mr. Mauldin was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Pauline Gailey, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Revs. Bill Trotter and Jeff Tyler officiating. Burial was in the New Birth Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Mauldin is survived by his wife, Mayzelle Aycock Mauldin, Baldwin; two daughters, Mary Jane Gailey and Linda Gailey, both of Baldwin; one son, James Ray Mauldin, Baldwin; three brothers, Raymond Mauldin, Cornelia, Jack Mauldin, Washington, and Herman Mauldin, Rayle; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred L. Burnette
Mrs. Mildred Lusk Burnette, 81, of Commerce, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Burnette was born September 29, 1920, in Stephens County. She was a daughter of the late Tom and Sally Terrell Lusk.
Mrs. Burnette was a homemaker and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Burnette.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Burnette, Decatur, Ill., and Ray Burnette, Toccoa; five daughters, Linda Barrett, Martin, Pam Cox, Great Mills, Md., Faye Fitzpatrick and Brenda Gillis, both of Commerce, and Autumn Garrett, Dahlonega; one sister, Fleta Mulkey, Dover, Del.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Grady Wade
Grady Wade, 79, of Demorest, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, following an extended illness.
Born in Banks County on April 8, 1923, Mr. Wade was a son of the late Cleveland Wade and Margie Crenshaw Wade.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of Return Baptist Church. Mr. Wade was retired from Clarkesville Mill, after 37 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Smith Wade, a sister, Grace Lynch Plott, and brothers, Paul Wade and Roosevelt Wade.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, in Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Donald Grizzle officiating. Burial was in the Return Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include his daughter, Gail Jones, Demorest; his son, Verner Wade, Demorest; sisters, Sophronia Petitt, Cleveland, and Charlotte Freeman and Joyce Turner, both of Demorest; brothers, Richard Wade and Dewey Wade, both of Demorest, and Buford Wade, Cleveland; and two grandchildren.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Maxie Hemphill
Mrs. Maxie Ayers Vaughan Hemphill, 91, of Carnesville, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at her home.
Born September 22, 1910, in Banks County, Mrs. Hemphill was the daughter of the late John W. and Minnie Burgess Ayers.
She was first married in 1929, to the late O. Herschel Vaughan, who passed away March 23, 1973. She married William David Hemphill in 1977. Mrs. Hemphill was also preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis Ayers and C.T. Ayers, and a sister, Johnnie Sue Merritt.
She was a homemaker and owned and operated Vaughan’s Cloth Shop in Toccoa. As a longtime member of Cross Roads Baptist Church, Mrs. Hemphill taught Sunday School primary class for 10 years and was a member of the Winsome Sunday School Class.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, in B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, with the Rev. Michael Bell officiating. Burial was in the Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery. Henry Ayers, Carl Smith, Donald Young, Charles Rice, George Rice and Calvin Barnett served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Hemphill is survived by her husband, William David Hemphill; step-daughter, Eloise Rice, Royston; step-son, Charles Hemphill, Atlanta; sister, Lattrell “Lottie” Jordan, Belton, S.C.; four step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church, 16144 GA Hwy. 59, Carnesville, GA 30521.
Ginn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sally McDougal
Mrs. Sally McDougal, 76, of Winder, died Sunday, July 28, 2002.
Mrs. McDougal was born in Barrow County, where she had resided for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Ben and Parilee Montgomery Wilkins.
Mrs. McDougal was a retiree of Empire Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robie McDougal, and a daughter, Janice McDougal.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Kenneth Brewer, Shuford Jones and Robert Whitehead officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Creek Baptist Church cemetery. Josh Mathews, Justin Mathews, Jeremy Mathews, Jack McDougal, David Wilkins and Phillip Wilkins served as pallbearers.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Gary Mathews, Winder; grandson and wife, Josh and April Mathews, Woodstock; grandsons, Justin Mathews and Jeremy Mathews, both of Winder; brother and sister-in-law, Hoyt and Charlene Wilkins, Hoschton; sister, Nina McDougal, Maysville; and sisters-in-law, Cora Mae Wilkins, Essie Lou Wilkins and Imogene Wilkins, all of Winder.
Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lon Gribble
Lon Gribble, 76, of Clarkesville, formerly of Lakeland, Fla., died Friday, July 26, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Habersham County on June 23, 1926, Mr. Gribble was the son of the late James B. and Winnie Lee Hill Gribble.
He was a retired manager with Ridge Lumber Company, Lakeland, Fla., and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. Mr. Gribble attended the Cornelia Church of God and was a member of the North Side Assembly of God in Lakeland, Fla., where he served as deacon for many years.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lurline Holbrook.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, at Harvest Ministries Church, Jacksonville, Fla., with the Rev. Eddie Tanner officiating. Services were also held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Cornelia Church of God with the Revs. Eddie Tanner, Wilmer Ivester and Len Pirkle officiating. Burial was in Clarkesville Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Gribble is survived by his wife, Alma O’Steen Gribble, Clarkesville; daughters, Winnie Higgins, Comer, and Donna Coleman, Charlotte, N.C.; son, James Gribble, Auburndale, Fla.; brother, James M. Gribble, Clarkesville; sisters, Eula Belle Franklin and Lila Alley, Clarkesville; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

Richard E. Martin Sr.
Richard Edward Martin Sr., 80, of Cornelia, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Martin was born February 8, 1922, in Walterboro, S.C. He was a son of the late Joseph Perry and Nellie Harrison Martin.
Mr. Martin was a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran, serving in the European Theatre.
He was retired from Virginia Supply & Well Co., Cornelia office, where he was the branch owner and operator. Mr. Martin served as a Cornelia City Commissioner, Ward I, for 11 years and was director of Habersham Federal Savings & Loan for 17 years. Mr. Martin was a member of the Habersham County Board of Equilization for 13 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Orangeburg, S.C. He was a Charter Member of the Lions Club and was a member of Cornelia First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Greg Walton and Dr. T. Logan Smith officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Maud Mixon Martin, Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Sonja Martin Crawford and Kim Crawford, Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. Martin Jr. and Wanda Martin, Hiawassee; sisters, Mamie Lee McMillan, Walterboro, S.C., and Dorothy Lagneaux, Duson, La.; grandchildren, Derenda Crawford Cragg, Bryan Taylor Martin, David Martin Crawford and Clayton Edward Martin; and great-grandchildren, Braxton Martin Pierce, Spencer Christian Pierce and Augusta Dailey Martin.
Memorials may be made to the Cornelia First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 96, Cornelia GA 30531, to the American Heart Association, Memorial Fund, 252A Chase Road, Cornelia, GA 30531, or to a charity of one’s choice.

A.T. Bond
A.T. Bond, 86, of Stockbridge, formerly of Alto, died Monday, September 30, 2002, at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, following a short illness.
Mr. Bond was born in Stephens County on September 2, 1916. He was a son of the late Rafe and Violet Grant Bond.
Mr. Bond was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church, Mt. Airy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie Ruth Hodges Bond, two brothers, W.R. Bond and Fred Bond, and three sisters, Emily Anderson, Williford Cody and Frances Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 3, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Brent Bond officiating. Burial will be in the B C Grant Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Griffin, Roswell, and Dottie Nelson, Seattle, Wash.; three sons, Doug Bond, Santa Maria, Calif., and George Bond and Fred Bond, both of Stockbridge; one sister, Violet Addy, Toccoa; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hazel Creek Baptist Church, 243 Hazel Creek Road, Mt. Airy, GA 30563.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
