Ruby L. Glenn
Mrs. Ruby Lillian Huckaby Glenn, 60, of Lawrenceville, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, at Gwinnett Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Born in Clinton, Tenn., on October 5, 1941, Mrs. Glenn was the daughter of the late Leroy Sr. and Elsie Mae Phillips Huckaby.
She was a retired production specialist, Level 2, with Lucent Technologies and was a member of North Clinton Baptist Church, Clinton, Tenn.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Ralph O. Smith and Ray Gentry officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Glenn is survived by her husband, Ray Glenn, Lawrenceville; son, Greg Huckaby, Winder; step-sons, Tim Glenn, Colorado, Steve Glenn, Montana, and Ken Glenn, Auburn; brother, Leroy Huckaby Jr., Clinton, Tenn; sisters, Chestine Wilson, Maxine Wilson, Josephine Martin and Imogene Henderson, all of Clinton, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Nicholas Huckaby, Cody Huckaby, Emily Glenn, Brianna Glenn, Sal Glenn, Billy Glenn and Tara Glenn.

George H. Thompson
George Hoyt Thompson, 85, of Mt. Airy, died Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Mr. Thompson was born August 17, 1917, in Rabun County. He was the son of the late Cleveland and Lassie Lovell Thompson and was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Hershaw and Cleva Taylor.
Mr. Thompson was retired from Chicopee Manufacturing, with 28 years of service, and attended Baldwin Church of God.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, September 26, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with Pastors Mike Franklin and Larry Carnes officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Irene Vinson Thompson, Mt. Airy; daughters and sons-in-law, Miriam and Don Moore, Cornelia, and Sue and Larry Carnes, Mt. Airy; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Gregory S. Whitlock
Gregory Scott Whitlock, 32, of Athens, died Monday, September 30, 2002.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Whitlock was a son of Judy Ferguson Whitlock and the late William Whitlock.
He graduated with a bachelor of science in computer science from The University of Georgia, where he remained very active in intramural sports and the Ultimate Frisbee Club. Mr. Whitlock was a computer and network specialist for The University of Georgia, as well as the University System of Georgia.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5, at The University of Georgia Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Edward Bolen officiating. A reception will be held afterwards at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Holli Rischanne Drummond, Athens; four sisters, Barbara Harbert, Cornelia, Carolyn Whitlock, Gillsville, Kathy Carlan, Canton, and Donna Stallings, Newnan; two brothers, Billy Whitlock and Danny Whitlock, both of Gillsville; 10 nieces and nephews and many close friends.

Sara W. Daniel
Mrs. Sara Wheeler Daniel, 85, of Doraville, died Thursday, September 19, 2002, at Gwinnett Extended Care, Lawrenceville.
Born in Maysville, Jackson County, on April 2, 1917, Mrs. Daniel was the daughter of the late Dan J. Wheeler and the late Ina Doss Wheeler.
She was retired from the Internal Revenue Service, where she was a claims clerk. Mrs. Daniel was preceded in death by her husband, Julian A. Daniel, and three sisters, Edna Mathis, Ora Wheeler and Alda Harbin.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 21, at Oconee Baptist Church, Dry Pond, with the Rev. David Harbin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include daughters, Jerrye, and husband, Dan Lail, Loganville, and Susan Daniel, Atlanta; grandchildren, Marie and Jimmy Leach, Lawrenceville, Ronda Wright, Atlanta, and Phillip Ellis, Doraville; great-grandchildren, Vance Leach, Daniel Leach and Brooke Wright; sisters, Wilda, and husband, Wilburn Martin, Maysville, and Nell Brown, Maysville; brother, Daniel J. Wheeler Jr., Commerce; aunt and uncle, Helen and Homer Howard, Austell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jimmy Ferguson
James Issac “Jimmy” Ferguson, 85, of Diboll, Texas, formerly of Maysville, died Sunday, September 15, 2002.
Mr. Ferguson was a son of the late James and Willie Deen Ferguson. He was preceded in death by a son, Dwight Ferguson.
Mr. Ferguson served in the U.S. Air Force. During World War II, he fought in the Philippines and the Panama Canal Zone.
Mr. Ferguson retired from the military with 21 years of service in 1959. Afterwards, he retired with 16 years of employment with Pacific Gas and Electric in California. Mr. Ferguson was a member of Commerce Church of Christ before he and his wife moved to Texas this year.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 17, in the chapel of Corrigan Funeral Home with Raymond Wallace, Corrigan Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in Stryker Cemetery, Corrigan, Texas.
Mr. Ferguson is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie Bradley Ferguson, Diboll, Texas; six sons, Bill Ferguson, Wayne Ferguson and Troy Ferguson, all of California, David Ferguson, Missouri, Derral Ferguson, Georgia, and Tony Ferguson, Texas; three sisters, Clota Balleau, New Mexico, Mae Dickerson, Georgia, and Jennie Ramsey, Texas; sister-in-law, Hazel Parks, Georgia; and a multitude of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary A. Smith
Mrs. Mary Annette Smith, 65, of Jefferson, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Smith was born July 24, 1937, in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Curtis and Addie Jackson Dowdy.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Jefferson. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Lyndon Dowdy.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, at Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cody Dowdy, Jerry Dowdy, Chris Nelms, Donald Segars, Curtis Smith, Lee Tompkins and Jerry Wilkes served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Jerry Smith, Jefferson; two daughters, Bonnie Anglin, Maysville, and Janice Nelms, Jefferson; one son, Curtis Smith, Ila; one brother, Branson Dowdy, Jefferson; and 11 grandchildren.

Jessie B. Hood
Mrs. Jessie Barrett Hood, 74, of Atlanta, died Monday, September 30, 2002.
A native of Forsyth County, Mrs. Hood was retired from Union Camp, with 25 years of service, where she worked as a drill press operator. She was a member of University Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home, Norcross. Burial was in Peachtree Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hood is survived by her husband, Howard Hood, Atlanta; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Conrad Richards, Atlanta, and Beverly and Jimmy Roberts, Alto; brothers, Ford Barrett and Ira Barrett, both of Cumming; sisters, Dessie Corn, Norcross, and Eva Blackledge, Chamblee; granddaughter and her husband, Wendee and Mark Lewallen, Baldwin; and two great-grandchildren, Aaron Lewallen and Katee Lewallen, both of Baldwin.

William F. ‘Bill’ Barron
William F. “Bill” Barron, 95, of Alto, died Friday, December 6, 2002, at his residence following a sudden illness.
Mr. Barron was born in Polk County on October 10, 1907. He was a son of the late William F. Barron Sr. and Eula Barnes Barron.
Mr. Barron was a former resident of Snellville, moving to Banks County in 1978. He was an artist and photographer and was retired from Lockheed Corporation. Mr. Barron was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Clarkesville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 9, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Revs. George Deadwyler and Tommy Stowe officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Wright Barron, Alto; daughter, Alice Cunningham, Winston-Salem, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Andy Waldrop, Alto; and granddaughters and husbands, Eleanor and Steve Kilpatrick and Liesl and Mark Marmon.

James T. ‘Bubba’ Bruce
James Terry “Bubba” Bruce, 53, of Lavonia, died Sunday, December 8, 2002, at his home.
Born in Jackson County on May 31, 1949, Mr. Bruce was the only son of Mrs. Lillie Gary Bruce, Homer, and the late James T. Bruce.
He was retired from 34 years of service with the Georgia Department of Transportation and was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church, where he was active in the Explorer Sunday School Class, was a member of the Teller’s Committee, was a “Team Kid” Leader and was an inactive deacon of the church. Mr. Bruce was active in various Christian recreation leagues and had been active in years past with Little League as coach and in other positions. He was also a founding member of the Homer Fire Department, a former member of the Lavonia Fire Department and a former member of the Lavonia Lions Club.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, in the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home, Lavonia, with the Revs. Ted Kelley and Tommy Seay officiating. The Rev. Grant Myerholtz and Mrs. Penny Kelley ministered in music. Burial was in the Lavonia City cemetery with Bishop Willard Fitzpatrick officiating at graveside. Larry Wertan, Winston Roberson, Harry Banks, William Bruce, Jimmy Myerholtz, Lanny Crain, David Dunson, Cliff Hill, Roy Holland, Sherill Mullinax, Jimmy Carroll and Bill Bowen served as pallbearers. Honorary escort consisted of employees of the Georgia Department of Transportation and active and inactive deacons of Abundant Life Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Bruce is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy Bailey Bruce, of the home; and two sons, Wesley Bruce and John W. Bruce, both of the home.

Kenneth Larry Hart, 31, of Commerce, died Saturday, December 7, 2002, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Hart was born October 31, 1971, in Jackson County, a son of Larry and Hilda Long Hart, Commerce.
He was employed with Atlas Cold Storage.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 9, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Roy Neal officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hart is survived by his wife, Kimberly Hambrick Hart, Commerce; son, Kristopher Hart, Commerce; daughter, Kassady Hart, Commerce; and grandparents, Hugh and Louise Hart, Commerce.
