Kenneth R. Chambers
Kenneth Roy Chambers, 78, of Homer, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Chambers was a son of the late Roy and Irene Parks Chambers, and the husband of the late Vivian Davenport Chambers.
A graduate of the University of Georgia, Mr. Chambers was a retired White County Extension Agent and retired Chief of the White County Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Homer Presbyterian Church, the Homer American Legion and the Homer Masonic Lodge No. 148 F&AM, where he was a 50-year mason.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Homer Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Charles Alexander, Leland Bagwell and Phil Parks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Chambers is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Jon Chambers, Duluth; daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Avery Shelnut and Sydney and Mitchell Vandiver, all of Cleveland; brother, Gene Chambers, Cumming; sister, Maxine Banks, Commerce; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
The family was to have received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce. The body will be placed in state at the church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Dorothy M. Gibson
Mrs. Dorothy Marie Prater Gibson, 79, of Baldwin, died Thursday, June 12, 2003.
A native of Habersham County, Mrs. Gibson was a daughter of the late A.J. and Lula Fitzgerald Prater. She was a homemaker and retired from Cornelia Broom Co. Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her husband, James Dewey Gibson.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Chris Vaughn officiating. Burial was in the Demorest City Cemetery.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Daniel, Mount Airy; and nieces and nephews.

Daniel L. Saville Sr.
Daniel Lewis Saville Sr., 57, of Maysville, died Thursday, October 2, 2003, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Saville was born April 17, 1946, in Warren County, N.Y. He was the son of the late Ernest and Dorothy Lewis Saville.
Mr. Saville was employed with Wal-Mart and was a member of Maysville Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Phi Delta Lodge 148 F&AM in Homer.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 5, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Dugar Strickland and Swayne Carlan officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.
Mr. Saville is survived by his wife, Lona Tucker Saville, Maysville; son, D.J. Saville, Commerce; daughter, Lynn Smith, Hull; sisters, Frances Cadotte, Columbia, S.C., and Judy Howe, Maysville; and two grandchildren.

David T. Banks
David Thomas Banks, 50, of Baldwin, died Sunday, October 5, 2003, at Habersham County Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Banks was born in Habersham County on January 30, 1953. He was the owner and operator of North Georgia Air Freight for 18 years and was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church. Mr. Banks was also a member of the Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge #141 F.&A.M., the Habersham Sunrise Rotary Club and was past president of the Cornelia Optimist Club.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ottis Stonecypher.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, at Level Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Rice and Michael Hill officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Banks is survived by his wife, Penny Stonecypher Banks, Baldwin; daughter, Sarah Banks, Baldwin; son, Josh Banks, Baldwin; his parents, Homer and Carolyn Smith Banks, Clarkesville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debra and Anthony Franklin, Demorest, and Shirley and Randy Cleveland, Danielsville; mother-in-law, Jane Taylor, Cornelia; and brother-in-law, Buddy Stonecypher, Mt. Airy.

James R. 'Pop' Morris
James R. "Pop" Morris, 47, of Cornelia, died Thursday, October 2, 2003, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, after an extended illness.
Mr. Morris was born August 12, 1956, in Habersham County. He was a son of the late Kenny L. and Ethelene Estelle Tannery Morris, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia and Estelle Morris.
Mr. Morris was a broom winder with Cornelia Broom Co.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 5, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Revs. Paul Morris and Paul Flynn officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Wanda Morris Smith, Cornelia; three sisters, Evon Galloway, Homer, Esther Freiburg, Macon, and Mary L. Wade, Cleveland; and two brothers, Frankie Morris, Homer, and Tommy Morris, Carnesville.

Ray Garmon
Ray Garmon, 68, of Maysville, formerly of Norcross, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, after an extended illness.
Mr. Garmon was a former Norcross Councilman and a Dispatch Supervisor for a pipeline company. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Garmon also played Pro Baseball with the Pirates organization in 1953.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Garmon, and a daughter, Gina.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 9, at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home, Norcross. Burial will be in Peachtree Memorial Park.
Mr. Garmon is survived by his wife, Millie Garmon, Maysville; sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Shirley Garmon, Union Point, and Randy and Alycia Garmon, Braselton; grandchildren, Eric and Dustin, Maysville, and Jacob, Elizabeth and Art, Union Point; great-granddaughters, Abby and Lexie; sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Clark, Stone Mountain, and Mrs. Rena Cooper, Tucker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Monteen and Hugh Green, Maysville, Mrs. Doris and John Tullis, Doraville, Mrs. Sara and Homer Yawn, Harrison, Ariz., and Mrs. Carolyn and Don Thompson, Norcross; mother-in-law, Dessie Elrod, Commerce; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Darrel Whitlock
Darrel Whitlock, 42, of Commerce, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce, of a sudden illness.
A native of Barrow County, Mr. Whitlock was a son of Mary Whitsel Whitlock, Lula, and the late Paul Thomas Whitlock.
He was a construction worker.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 9, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Harold Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Banks County Memorial Gardens.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Whitlock is survived by his wife, Diana M. Whitlock, Commerce; son, Kerry Whitlock, Commerce; daughter, Sabrina Whitlock, Commerce; step-sons, Justin and Blake Fitzpatrick, both of Commerce; step-daughter, Ashley Fitzpatrick, Commerce; brothers, Steve Whitlock, Gillsville, and Jeff Whitlock, Commerce; and sister, Peggy Collins, Commerce.

James F. Watson
James F. Watson, 77, of Canon, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at Cobb Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Watson was born in Banks County on February 19, 1926, a son of the late Doc and Foncia Watson. He was raised at the Methodist Children's Home in Decatur, and lived most of his life in Franklin County.
Mr. Watson served in the United States Army during World War II with the 82nd Airborne Division and was a pattern maker in the concrete industry. He was of the Methodist denomination.
Mr. Watson was preceded in death by a brother, Boyd Watson, and a sister, Gladys Patterson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 9, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Gary Hulsey officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens, North.
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife, Wilda Mae Segers Watson, Canon; son, James H. Watson, Canon; daughter, Catherine Watson Reese, Augusta; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Jerry Wilson
Jerry Wilson, 64, of Commerce, died Monday, October 6, 2003, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
A native of Greenwood, S.C., Mr. Wilson was a son of the late Hezzie Kiah Wilson Sr. and Carrie Mae Morrison Wilson.
He was retired from Harmony Grove Mill and was a member and deacon of Blacks Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, at Blacks Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Coppage and Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kellum Wilson, Commerce; daughters and sons-in-law, Allison and Tim Seabolt and Wendy and Chad Rising, all of Commerce; son, Jerry Dean Wilson, Commerce; brother, Hezzie Kiah Wilson Jr., Commerce; and three grandchildren.

Ophelia F. Cotrell
Mrs. Ophelia Ford Cotrell, 78, of Commerce, died Friday, October 3, 2003, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
Born in Oconee County, S.C., on July 31, 1925, Mrs. Cotrell was a daughter of the late James and Janie Tucker Ford.
She was retired from General Times and was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 5, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. David Harbin officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mrs. Cotrell is survived by her husband, Herschel W. Cotrell, Commerce; two sons, Danny Cotrell and Steve Cotrell, both of Commerce; two daughters, Sandra Campbell, Homer, and Carman Culman, Commerce; one sister, Odessa Ambrister, Lima, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
