Katherine Hood
Katherine Hood, 93, of Commerce, died Friday, October 8, 2004, at her residence.
She was born in Cherokee County, May 23, 1911, the daughter of the late Claude M. and Flora Huckabee Rogers. Mrs. Hood was a retired history and latin teacher and a member of the Commerce United Methodist Church, Ruth Naomi’s Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Hood.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Hood, Commerce; and a son, William Hood, Danielsville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 12, in the Commerce First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Gwin, assisted by Dr. David Bowen, officiating. Burial was in Union Hill United Methodist Church, Cherokee County.

Raymond Lance
Raymond Lance, 70, of Pendergrass, died Friday, October 8, 2004, in BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Born January 29, 1934, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Duck and Pauline Crane Lance. He was retired from J.D. Jewell and was Holiness.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Jean Brookshire Lance, Pendergrass; sons, Marty Lance and Jerry Lance, both of Pendergrass; daughters, Anita Coleman and Carolyn Whitlock, both of Pendergrass, and Sancy Phillips, Royston; brothers, Jimmy Lance, John A. Lance, and James Lance, all of Pendergrass; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 10, in the Living Word Worship Center with the Revs. Mark Mobley, Terry Fowler, Dennis Kesler, and Johnny Knight officiating. Burial was in the Pond Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

James Kitchens
James David Kitchens, 35, of Cleveland, died Sunday, November 14, 2004, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born in Ft. Worth, Texas, on August 11, 1969, he was the son of the late James Roger Kitchens. He was a mechanic and of the Holiness denomination.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Abercrombie Kitchens, Cleveland; daughters, Katie Kitchens and Tayler Kitchens, both of Cleveland; son, Austin Dale Kitchens, Cleveland; mother and step-father, Ruby and William Dale Capps, Murphy, N.C.; brothers, James Kevin Kitchens, Blairsville, and James Robert Kitchens, Murphy, N.C.; sister, Lisa Beasley, Archer, Fla.; and grandmother, Winnie Kitchens, Baldwin.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 17, at the Baldwin Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Sanford Kimbrell and Bill Trotter officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Sarah Jane Barrett Baker, 58, of Homer, died Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette B. Smith.
Survivors include her mother, Ruth Davis, Homer; sons, Larry J. Barrett, Cleveland, Shannon Baker, Wedowee, Ala., and Ricky Baker, Homer; daughters, Betty B. Lewallen and Tammy Baker, both of Homer.

Nina Reeder
Nina Genevieve Thompson Reeder, 76, of Baldwin, died Thursday, November 11, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Miami, Fla., on August 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Leo M. and Edith Brown Thompson. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, fishing and gardening, according to loved ones. Mrs. Reeder was preceded in death by sisters, Corrine Shrader and Betty Homestead.
Survivors include her husband, Henson Burnett Reeder Sr., Baldwin; daughters and sons-in-law, Nina and Daniel Skinner and Linda and John Forrester, all of Toccoa, Betty and Wayne Kelsey, Clarkesville, Tina and Kevin Pasley, Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Henson Reeder, Jr. and Jackie, Demorest; brother, Clyde Thompson, Miami, Fla.; sister, Elsie Sapp, Williston, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Charlie Forrester, Jennifer Stewart, Ray Skinner, Tommy Kelsey, Louise Kelsey, Tonya Fugel, Jessica Miller, Lindsey Reeder, Clint Reeder and Brian Pasley; and 14 great-grandchildren, Nick Carter, Courtney Carter, James Thompson, Alisha Thompson, Kyle Forrester, Philomena Kelsey, Bridget Kelsey, Elizabeth Fugel, Julianna Fugel, Gabriel Fugel, Trent Reeder, Courtney Miller, Ashlyn Miller and Cole Miller.

Lucinda Arizona Sorrells, 79, of Commerce, died Sunday, November 14, 2004, following an extended illness.
Born July 23, 1925, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late David Paul and Sara Smith Underwood. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pond Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Vickie Shepherd, Athens, Peggy Steffanelli, Ellijay, and Sandi Swistak, Commerce; sons, Ricky Sorrells, New Jersey, and Andy Sorrells, Gainesville; sisters, Roberta Love and Annie Laura Elrod, both of Pendergrass, and Sara Nell Bruce, Maysville; brothers, Henry Underwood, Pendergrass, and J.A. Underwood, Gainesville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 16, at the Pond Fork Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Knight, Duwane Major, Danny Green and Larry Buffington officiating. Jacquelyn Reid
Jacquelyn Gibson Reid, 53, of Jefferson, died Thursday, November 11, following a sudden illness.
She was born August 17, 1951, in Jackson County, the daughter of the late James Aubrey Gibson, Sr. and Sallie Belle Damron Gibson. Mrs. Reid was a homemaker and a member of the Crooked Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lee, and two brothers, John Gordon Gibson and James Aubrey Gibson, Jr.
Survivors include sons, Ronnie Wilson and Andy Reid, both of Jefferson, and Richard Reid, Bethlehem; sisters, Nell Archer and Carol Dills, both of Jefferson, Sue Hawkins, Athens, and Jean Morgan, Watkinsville; one brother, A.G. Gibson, Jefferson; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 14, at the Redstone Methodist Church with Pastor Roy Smith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Reid’s nephews served as pallbearers.

Oma Armstrong
Oma Lee Armstrong, 84, of Baldwin, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004.
She was born on July 24, 1920, in Habersham County, and was the daughter of the late John and Lavonia Mullinax Armstrong. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Armstrong was preceded in death by a brother, John B. Armstrong.
Survivors include three sisters, Flossie Dooley, Cornelia, Pat Pealor, Sharpsburg and Elizabeth Carey, Baldwin; one special niece, Vickie Turner, Mount Airy; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 18, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Frank Sailers officiating. Burial will be in Clarkesville Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17.

James Griffin
James Howard Griffin, 64, of Commerce, died Friday, November 12, 2004, following a long illness.
Born in Ashe-ville, N.C., he was the son of the late Marie Griffin Rice of Asheville, N.C., and the late Howard Griffin of Brevard, N.C., and the late Bill and Edith Lettermann of West Asheville, N.C.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who had a special place in the hearts of all of those who knew him, according to family members.
Mr. Griffin was a graduate of Enka High School and went to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1965 and was in the Naval Reserve. Mr. Griffin belonged to Dry Pond United Methodist Church, was a member of the Asheville Moose Lodge and former owner of the The Big Occasion Bridal Shop. He was in real estate, was owner of the Mansions R. US Designer for 40 years, and owned and operated The Bedding Shop. He also had Jay Productions, had the first Miss Full Figure Pageant in 1984 and had his own T.V. show on designing your home on Real-A Vision in 1985.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Drake Allbright, and a brother, John Griffin.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Charlene Davis Griffin; daughters and son-in-law, Londa Griffin, Tracy Griffin, Lavette Dimsdale, and Melissa and Chris Albright, all of Commerce; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth “Kevin” Griffin, Grayson; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, George and Minnie Griffin, Asheville, N.C.; brothers, Jack Letterman, Asheville, N.C., Bill Griffin, Kenneth Griffin and Dennis Griffin, all of Brevard, N.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Loraine “Sis” Lance and Willa Dean (Wib) Coleman, Billie Oliver, Phyllis and Jerome Roberson, Linda Lou and Hill Breedlove, Kay and John Richardson, all of Asheville, N.C., and Sandra Griffin, Brevard, N.C.; sister-in-law, Johnette Chasteen, Asheville, N.C.

Joe Cleveland
Joe T. Cleveland, 75, of Commerce, died Sunday, November 14, 2004, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Born May 15, 1929, in Hart County, he was the son of the late Henry K. and Emma Jones Cleveland. He was a mechanic for U.P.S. for 22 years, a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Hartwell, and attended Morning Star Baptist Church, Commerce. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army for 22 years in the Korean conflict and Vietnam and retired as a Staff Sergeant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ester K. Cleveland, brother, Teasley Cleveland, and sisters, Onie York, Irene Adams and Gladys Cathey,
Survivors include sons, Jimmie Cleveland, Commerce, and Joel Thomas Cleveland, Cartersville; daughter, Mary C. Bearden, Dahlonega; brothers, Arnold Cleveland, Anderson, S.C., Harold Cleveland and Bill Cleveland, both of Hartwell; sister, Evelyn Gaines, Anderson, S.C.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Bobby Parten
Bobby Allen Parten, 64, of Commerce, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004.
A native of Barrow County, he was the son of the late William Ezra and Fairy Bell Owens Parten. Mr. Parten was a retired electrical tester from Westinghouse, a member of the Brotherhood of Electical Workers and a member of the Greater Athens Church of God. He was preceded in death by his son, Russell Parten.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Davis Beauchamp Parten, Commerce; son and daughter-in-law, William Allen and Tammy Parten, Dahlonega; step-children, Greg and Stephanie Beauchamp, Nicholson, and Rhonda and Richard Leonard, Danielsville; sister, Lynette Fowler, Winterville; and grandchildren, Brittany Noel Parten, Joshua Allen Parten, Angelia Rae Parten, Kyle Leonard, Chris Leonard, Austin Beauchamp, Conner Beauchamp and Kayla Beauchamp.
