EATONTON - Brittany Taylor Zak, 11, died Saturday, August 7, 1999.
Miss Zak was born in Athens and was a daughter of John Zak, Sandgate, Vt., and Kimberley Shumake Logan, Eatonton.
She had resided in the Athens area until one year ago.
Miss Zak was a student last year at Timothy Elementary School and was to have started the sixth grade at Putnam County Middle School on Monday. She attended Moons Grove Baptist Church, Hull, and was a member of the Athens Gymnastic Club. Miss Zak was preceded in death by her grandfather, Douglas Shumake.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11, at Moons Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Fuller and Tony Lee officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Ray Akridge, Greg Zak, Rick Zak and David Flint served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include two sisters, Ashley Brooke Zak and Madison Christian Zak, both of Eatonton; step-father, Lindey Logan, Eatonton; grandparents, John and Joanne Zak, Shaftsbury, Vt., and Peggy Shumake, Jefferson; and great-grandmother, Catherline Sorrow, Athens.

CRAWFORD - Mrs. Fronie Fouts Wheless, 70, formerly of Decatur, died Thursday, August 5, 1999, at Russell Nursing Home following an extended illness.
A native of Fulton County, Mrs. Wheless was born August 9, 1928. She was a daughter of Polly Morgan Fouts, Monroe, and the late Luster Paul Fouts.
Mrs. Wheless was retired from Retail Clerks Union/Big Apple & Food Giant Store, with 30 years of service. She was a member of Crawford Baptist Church. Mrs. Wheless was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Terry Wheless and Bruce Wayne Wheless.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 9, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Gerald Mitton officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Decatur. James Wheless, Bill Chapman, Alfred Nicholson, Wayne Wheless, Mike Wheless and Tom Hairston served as pallbearers.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Walter J. Wheless, Jefferson; one son, Jim R. Wheless, Flowery Branch; daughters and sons-in-law, Janis and Bill Chapman, Atlanta, and Vicki and Alfred Nicholson, Jefferson; daughter-in-law, Sheila Wheless, Auburn; five grandchildren, Wayne, Mike and Jeff Wheless, all of Flowery Branch, and Krystle and Kerry Wheless, both of Auburn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

CORNELIA - Mrs. Fannie Erwin Tilson, 88, died Thursday, August 5, 1999, at BJC Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Tilson was born on September 11, 1910 in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late John Chandler and Margie Morris Erwin.
Mrs. Tilson was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Tilson, two sons, Truman Tilson and J.C. Tilson, and a daughter, Hazel Robinson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 8, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Clyde Garrison officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Jannie Baker, Maysville, and Marie Collins, Colbert; two sons, Lawton Erwin, Cornelia, and Tommy Tilson, Homer; three sisters, Marie Thompson Tench, Lovenie Simmons and Ethel Ivester Smith, all of Cornelia; four brothers, Lewis Erwin, Coleman Erwin and Homer Erwin, all of Cornelia, and Ray Erwin, Homer; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

JEFFERSON - Dorothy Parris Storey, 86, died Thursday, August 5, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Storey was born January 13, 1913 in Spartanburg, S.C. She was a daughter of the late Alfred Greene Parris and Posy Hardin Parris.
Mrs. Storey attended Ashville-Normal Girl's School and the University of South Carolina. She was retired from the Department of Family and Children's Services and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson. Mrs. Storey was also a member of the Jefferson Garden Club. She was preceded in death by a son, Taylor Dickson Storey Jr., and a sister, Sarah Parris Jones.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 7, at the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson with the Revs. Scott Hearn and Gary Whatley officiating. Burial was in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson. Mrs. Storey's grandsons and Bill Ormsby served as pallbearers.
Survivors include her husband, Taylor Dickson Storey; daughter and son-in-law, Caroline Storey and Adam Huff, Athens; daughter, Posy Storey Riddle, Athens; grandchildren, William Dwight Howard Jr., Caroline Howard Newhouse, Clifford Hardin Howard, Timothy Lee Howard, Joel Dickson Riddle, Thomas Ray Riddle Jr., Dorothy Parris Riddle and Sarah Catherine Riddle; great-grandchildren, Sadie, Cameron, Taylor, Zachary, Erin, Tena, Samantha and Morgan; and a number of nieces and nephews.

MARYVILLE, TENN. - Peyton S. Scales, 83, of Maryville, Tenn., died Tuesday, August 10, 1999, at Blount Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Scales was a son of the late Paul and Calla Scales. He was owner of Scales Builders Supply from 1946 to 1982 and was a member of Bakers Creek Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Scales was also a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Maryville Lions Club, where he served at local, state and national levels. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Anne Ruckart, and two brothers, David Scales and Paul Scales Jr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11, in the chapel of McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home, Maryville, Tenn., with the Revs. Ron Sabo and Roy Englehardt officiating. Burial was in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Anna K. Scales; three sisters, Eleanor S. Whitfield and Doris S. Wright, both of Commerce, and Bess S. Crawford, Homer; grandson and wife, Matthew P. and Denise Ruckart; great-grandson, Peyton Ruckart; and several nieces and nephews.

EASLEY, S.C. - Will Duey Irvin, 69, died Monday, August 2, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Irvin was born on March 29, 1930 in Gillsville. He was a son of the late Jess and Mae Bell Tanner Irvin.
Mr. Irvin was employed in heavy construction work.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 6, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Greg Irvin, Athens, and Stanley Irvin, Gainesville; one daughter, Cheryl Irvin Lance, Gainesville; one brother, George Irvin, Danielsville; five sisters, Martha Harnish, Simpsonville, S.C., Mary Lou Hix, Commerce, Edith Smith and Peggy Webb, both of Gainesville, and Virginia Strickland, Chestnut Mountain; and five grandchildren.

EATONTON - Joe E. Powers, 61, died Sunday, August 8, 1999.
A native of Oconee County, Mr. Powers was a son of the late Emory and Mary Nell Andrews Powers.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as a maintenance supervisor with Harrison Poultry in Bethlehem.
No services will be held.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Fielding Powers; two daughters, Teresa P. Anglin, Jefferson, and Patty Jo Sellers, Commerce; one son, Joe Powers Jr., Watkinsville; one step-daughter, Cathy Ralston, Farmington; two sisters, Marilyn P. Vaughn, Merritts Island, Fla., and Billie K. Faulkner, Lithia Springs; one brother, Emory Powers, Eatonton; nine grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

GAINESVILLE - Phillip Boyd Crane died Sunday, August 8, 1999, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Mr. Crane was born in Jackson County, but had lived in Hall County for a number of years. He was a son of Sidney and Grace Crane, Maysville.
Mr. Crane was a U.S. Army veteran and served as president of the Clay-Hyder Trucking Company. Mr. Crane was a member of Grove Level Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11, at Grove Level Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeff Appling and Jim Austin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

LAVONIA - Cecil Glen Stanley, 83, died Tuesday, August 10, 1999.
A native of Blue Ridge in Fannin County, Mr. Stanley was a son of the late Oliver P. Stanley and Hattie Burleson Stanley.
Mr. Stanley was a retired textile worker and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11, in the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home with the Revs. Jewell Gaines and Paul Jameson officiating. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens, North.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Vearl Tinker Stanley; three daughters, Betty Hutchins, Lavonia, Carolyn Suggs, Pendergrass, and Donna Herring, Martin; one son, Gerald Stanley, Bowman; one brother, Nick Stanley, Shelby, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
