Father of six
HARTWELL - Fred Beck, 87, died Thursday, August 12, 1999, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gainesville, Mr. Beck was born October 31, 1911. He was a son of the late Frank and Mary Flanagin Beck.
Mr. Beck had worked in the textile industry, employed with Harmony Grove Mills.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 14, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Kenneth Dillard and Sam Dorsey officiating. Burial was in the Cabin Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Mae Beck; two sons, Billy Beck, Commerce, and Donald Beck, Nicholson; four daughters, Annie Blanche Baker, Mrs. Edward Dorsey and Mrs. Samuel Dorsey, all of Commerce, and Mavis Barrett, Ninety Six, S.C.; three brothers, Curtis Beck, Jefferson, George Beck, Hull, and Rufus Beck, Commerce; five sisters, Sarah Culberston and Eddie Pearl Wiley, both of Homer, and Vernell Evans, Ear Belle Maney and Mamie Lou Turner, all of Commerce; 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

MRS. THOMAS
Zion Baptist Church member
MONROE - Mrs. Frances M. Thomas, 66, died August 8, 1999, at Park Place Nursing Facility.
A native of Fulton County, Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of the late John W. Manus Jr. and Mary Baird Manus Baum. Mrs. Thomas was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Braselton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Thomas Jr., a sister, Janet M. Brooks, and a brother, Herbert Manus. She was formerly married
to Herman Clark.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 10, in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home, Monroe, with the Rev. Jerald Bishop officiating. Burial was in Hill Haven Memory Gardens.
Survivors include one daughter, Mikki Clark, Jefferson; two sons, Ted Clark, Atlanta, and Tony Clark, Dallas, Texas; one sister, Louise Davis, Thomaston; three step-children, Diane Malcom, Tony Thomas and Timmy Thomas; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

MR. BLACKWELL
World War II veteran
TOCCOA - Marion Luther Blackwell, 83, died Thursday, August 12, 1999.
A native of Lavonia, Mr. Blackwell was a son of the late Henry and Lula Yearwood Blackwell.
A longtime resident of Toccoa and Stephens County, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and was retired from Toccoa Manufacturing Co. Mr. Blackwell was a member of Welcome Faith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Stephens Blackwell.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 15, in the chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa, with the Revs. Bill Trotter and Barney Gerrin officiating. Burial was in the Toccoa City Cemetery. Keith Blackwell, Jimmy Blackwell, Scott Wood, Scott Stone, Church Stephens and Michael Batson served as pallbearers.
Survivors include five daughters, Sue Riggan, Westminster, S.C., Charlene Peacock and Peggy McIntyre, both of Martin, Donna Maye, Kennesaw, and Nadene Wong, Toccoa; six sons, Kenneth Blackwell, Douglas Blackwell, Donnie Blackwell and Tony Blackwell, all of Toccoa, Larry Blackwell, Clarkesville, and Ronnie Blackwell, Jefferson; one brother, Edgar Blackwell, Toccoa; 29 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

MR. APPLEBY
Father of nine
JEFFERSON - Royce Appleby, 77, died Monday, August 16, 1999.
Mr. Appleby was a son of the late Herman and Gussie Appleby.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, at Maxey Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Ambrose M. Jackson and Fred Wilson officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Ivory Appleby; two sons, Royce Appleby Jr., Athens, and James Appleby, Jefferson; seven daughters, Frances Sewell and Nelease Appleby, both of Jefferson, Vivian Hardin, Atlanta, Delphine Burton and Donnette Parks, both of Athens, and Joyce Elaine Shields and Debra Ann Carruth, both of Gainesville; one brother, Clarence Appleby, Arcade; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

MRS. WILBANKS

JEFFERSON - Mrs. Dessie Turk Wilbanks, 91, died Sunday, August 22, 1999, at her residence following a brief illness.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Wilbanks was born September 2, 1907. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Lucy Allie Irvin Turk.
Mrs. Wilbanks was retired from the textile industry and was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bee Wilbanks, and a daughter, Iris Carter.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 24, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Jesse Mealor officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include five sons, Bennie E. Wilbanks, Allen Eugene Wilbanks, Wayne Wilbanks and Jarrell Wilbanks, all of Jefferson, and Jimmy Wilbanks, Loganville; three daughters, Addie Blanche Dills, Joyce Fowler and Sue Dalton, all of Jefferson; two sisters, Narcy Ginn, Jefferson, and Willa Mae Collins, Nicholson; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Geraldine Dale Pritchett, 80, died Sunday, August 22, 1999, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Pritchett was born December 4, 1918. She was a daughter of the late Dock Harrison and Hattie Hudson Dale.
Mrs. Pritchett was a retired dietitian with BJC Medical Center, Commerce, and was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church, Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Pritchett, a sister, Clara Booth, and a brother, Hoyle Dale.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 24, at Madison Street Baptist Church with the Rev. David Harbin officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include one son, Johnny Pritchett, Taylor, S.C.; two daughters, Betty Potts, St. Simons Island, and Gail Turner, Greenville, S.C.; four brothers, Albert Dale, Charlotte, N.C., Billy Dale, Commerce, Gene Dale, Marietta, and Lee Dale, Lilburn; six sisters, Frances Center and Pegi Murzynski, both of Athens, JoAnn Davis, Danielsville, Thelma Glenn, Commerce, Dot Jowers, Jacksonville, Fla., and Faye White, Carlton; brother-in-law, Edgar Pritchett, Nicholson; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

MRS. MAULDIN
Former nurse
COMMERCE - Mrs. Nell Mauldin, 89, died Thursday, August 19, 1999, at Crystle Springs Nursing Home.
A native of Commerce, Mrs. Mauldin was born September 28, 1909. She was a daughter of the late Joseph Franklin and Lula Wright Fulcher.
Mrs. Mauldin worked as a nurse at BJC Medical Center, Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmer Mauldin.
Graveside services were held Saturday, August 21, at Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce, with the Revs. Troy Herbert and Elwyn Wilbanks officiating.
Survivors include one daughter, Ruby Lynn Minish, Jefferson; one grandson, Lem E. Minish; and two great-grandchildren, David Christopher Minish and Lisa Marie Minish.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jackson County Department of Family and Children's Services toward Christmas gifts for children in foster care.

MRS. KEESEE

COMMERCE - Mrs. Cumi Sorrow Keesee, 83, died Wednesday, August 18, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Keesee was born May 6, 1916. She was a daughter of the late Lonnie and Rilla Ingram Sorrow.
Mrs. Keesee was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing and The Fabric Shop and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Henley Keesee.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 20, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Carlton Peters officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Jesse Michael Keesee, Powder Springs, and Norman Henley Keesee, Hartsville, S.C.; two daughters, Christine Brooks, Commerce, and Carolyn Orr, Woodstock; one brother, Hilliard Sorrow, Maysville; one sister, Nomie Carter, Maysville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

MR. WEHUNT
Retired night watchman
WINDER - Angus M. Wehunt, 92, died Tuesday, August 17, 1999.
A native of Lumpkin County, Mr. Wehunt was a son of the late John Jackson and Ruthie Magness Wehunt.
A former Jackson County resident, he had resided in Barrow County since 1951. Mr. Wehunt was a retired night watchman of Carwood Manufacturing Company and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Onnie Hanson Wehunt.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 20, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Larry Pruett officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Bobbie Jean Wadsworth, Lawrenceville, Mary Catherine Reid, Lilburn, and Beverly Burnette, Winder; two sons, Jack Wehunt and Kenneth Wehunt, both of Winder; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

MR. CHAMBERS
U.S. Army veteran
COMMERCE - Jerry Michael Chambers, 49, died Tuesday, August 24, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Chambers was born October 30, 1949. He was a son of J.T. and Imogene Chambers, Homer.
Mr. Chambers was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 26, in Banks County Memorial Gardens, Homer, with the Rev. Jerry Stowe officiating.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Sharon Chambers; two step-sons, Greg Abernathy, Gillsville, and Jermy Abernathy, Gainesville; and two sisters, Rita Chambers and Judy Miller, both of Homer.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce.
