FORT WAYNE, IND. - Garland W. Wheeler, 78, died Friday, February 18, 2000, at Laurels Hospital of Dekalb in Butler, Ind.
A native of Commerce, Mr. Wheeler had lived in the DeKalb County area for 49 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked as a tool hardener with National Heat Treat Company, with 30 years of service, having retired in 1989. Mr. Wheeler attended Statewood Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Felton, Lloyd and Clifford.
Services were held Monday, February 21, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, Ind. Local services were held Wednesday, February 23, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with Robert Flippo officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include one daughter, Gail Stewart, Fort Wayne, Ind.; one step-son, Calvin Todd, Flowery Branch; five sisters, Vera Wheeler, Commerce, Hazel Culpepper, Warington, Va., Jetteree Hull, Spencerville, Ind., Gwynola "Tootsie" Smitherman, Athens, and Golden Hile, Ashley, Ind.; and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home was in charge of out-of-state arrangements, while Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Winnie H. Arnold, 79, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a sudden illness.
Mrs. Arnold was born in Banks County, a daughter of the late Brazzie Hubbard and Bessie Campbell.
She was a homemaker and a member of Silver Shoals Baptist Church. Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Arnold.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, at Silver Shoals Baptist Church with the Revs. David Bowen and Perry Smith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn Martin, Gainesville; one son, Jerry Arnold, Maysville; three brothers, A.J. Hubbard, Cornelia, Swain Hubbard, Gainesville, and Bill Hubbard, North Carolina; three sisters, Hattie Etris, Homer, and Bessie Page and Elizabeth Surkert, both of North Carolina; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

COMMERCE - Robert "Bob" Sailors, 89, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
Mr. Sailors was born March 16, 1910, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Lon and Delia Dunson Sailors.
Mr. Sailors was a retired insurance salesman and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Hood Sailors.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Warren Huddleston and J.L. Griffith officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mr. Sailors is survived by a son, George Sailors, Commerce; and a brother-in-law, W.C. Hood, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

MR. RICHEY
U.S. Air Force retiree
COMMERCE - Gerald K. Richey, 65, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at Emory Hospital following a sudden illness.
Mr. Richey was born March 7, 1934, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Jessie Lee Richey Sr. and Lena Bertie Martin Richey.
Mr. Richey was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Richey.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Dennis Kesler and Curtis Green officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Baker Richey; three children, Cheryl Cummins, Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Wanda Wilson and Starla Smallwood, both of Commerce; three brothers, J.L. Richey, Olympia, Wash., James Bouy Richey, Blue Earth, Minn., and William Billy Richey, Jefferson; three sisters, Martha Smith, Jefferson, Willie Faye Smith, Sugar Hill, and Frances Elrod, Commerce; and eight grandchildren.

WINDER - Mrs. Ethel Page, 95, died Friday, February 18, 2000.
Mrs. Page was born in an area of Walton County that was later incorporated into Barrow County. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Edna Odum Vanderford.
Mrs. Page was a retired lunchroom worker with Winder-Barrow High School and was a member of Carter Hill Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Page, two sons, William Joe Page and Roy Page, a daughter, Ruth Mobley, a sister, Annie Bell Lynch, and a brother, Marcus Vanderford.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 20, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Joel Shadburn officiating. Burial was in the Carter Hill Christian Church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Phillips, Winder; one son, Doug Page, Winder; seven grandchildren, Dana Hendrix, Social Circle, Mitch Phillips, Jefferson, Randy Page, Winder, Mike Page, Dwight Page and David Page, all of Athens, and Ronnie Mobley, Statham; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

HOSCHTON - Stoncil Monroe Boyette Sr., 61, died Monday, February 21, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Boyette was born February 14, 1939, in Trenton, N.C. He was raised by an aunt, the late Lauinia Daugherty.
Mr. Boyette was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from the CIA.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 23, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson. Burial was in Lauderdale Memorial Park, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Lora Wolfel Boyette; two sons, Stoncil "Monny" Boyette Jr., Atlanta, and John Philip Boyette, Hoschton; one sister, Rita Duval, Tenton, N.C.; and one step-brother, Marshall Farmer, Richmond, Va.

ATHENS - J.B. Healan died Sunday, February 20, 2000, following an extended illness.
Mr. Healan was born in Barrow County, a son of the late James Matthew Healan and Maude Oaks Healan.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a technical sergeant, and was the owner of J.B. Healan Auto Parts.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 23, at Trinity Baptist Church with the Revs. Cecil Holcomb and Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Ronnie Healan, David Healan, Dennis Healan, Wesley Cooper, Rob Black and Chip Healan served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Orr Healan; one daughter, Rita K. Healan, Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kathy Healan, Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Ruby Healan Wade, Athens; three brothers, A.B. Healan, Winder, Holcomb Healan, Acworth, and A.O. "Red" Healan, Gainesville; one granddaughter, Christine H. Healan, Chicago, Ill.; and one grandson, Steven J. Healan, Chicago, Ill.

ANDERSON, S.C. - Johnnie Wilson Jr., 71, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at Anderson Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Mr. Wilson was born August 26, 1928, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Johnnie Wilson Sr. and Lelia Lauftus Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and was retired from the textile industry.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 19, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Buford Lockman officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two brothers, Odell Wilson and Russell Wilson, both of Commerce; two sisters, Janie Ballanger, Carnesville, and Virginia Archer, Center; and several nieces and nephews.

COMMERCE - Mrs. Alma Jean Smith, 78, died Friday, February 18, 2000.
A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Jerry and Maude Goss Morris.
She was a member of Melvin Hill C.M.E. Church, Carnesville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 22, at Melvin Hill C.M.E. Church with the Rev. Alton Jones officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Smith; one daughter, Dezzaree Dean, Milwaukee; and two sisters, Roberta Wheeler, Toccoa, and Elzora Beasley, Commerce.

ATHENS - Walter Marion Waddell, 88, died Monday, February 21, 2000.
A native of Banks County, Mr. Waddell was a son of the late Boyde and Lillie Jones Waddell.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hettie Mae Whitworth, and by his second wife, Elsie Beavers.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, February 22, in the Hudson Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Tom Lang officiating. Rick Melton, Scott King, Ron Mills, Larry Rogers, Jason Rogers and Jakob Rogers served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Marian Rogers, Arnoldsville, and Pat Thornton, Elberton; three sisters, Frances Griffith, Watkinsville, Annis Haggard, Winder, and Robbie Haggard, Commerce; two step-sons, Jim Beavers and Terry Beavers; five grandchildren, Terri Mill, Tammie King, Rick Melton, Larry Rogers and Jason Rogers; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
