Lula B. Hawks
Mrs. Lula Black Hawks, 87, of Commerce, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at Crystle Springs Nursing Home.
Mrs. Hawks was born March 13, 1913, in Madison County. She was a daughter of the late Henry and Ida Pertaine Black.
Mrs. Hawks was retired from Blue Bell, where she worked as a sewing machine operator, and was a member of Nicholson United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy D. Purcell and Virgil B. Hawks, and two sons, Edwayne S. Purcell and George Purcell.
Graveside services were held Monday, July 24, in Grey Hill cemetery with the Rev. Warren Huddleston officiating.
Mrs. Hawks is survived by two granddaughters, Susan Purcell, North Augusta, S.C., and Renee Girardeau, Aiken, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren.

MRS. HESS
Former museum guide
BALDWIN - Mrs. Irma Wilhelmina Hess, 89, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Hess was born January 29, 1911, in Amana, Iowa. She was a daughter of the late George and Wilhelmina Schneider Schmieder.
Mrs. Hess was a former museum guide and a member of Middle Amana Church in Middle Amana, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Hess.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 5, at Middle Amana Church.
Mrs. Hess is survived by a son, Larry Hess, Baldwin; a brother, Adolf Schneider, Middle Amana, Iowa; a sister, Freida Ohel, Middle Amana, Iowa; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Middle Amana Church.

MRS. PLOTT
Banks County native
DEMOREST - Mrs. Grace Lynch Plott, 80, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Plott was born April 15, 1920, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Cleveland and Margie Crenshaw Wade.
Mrs. Plott was a homemaker and of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 3, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Bill Trotter and Mickey Umbehant officiating. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Plott is survived by her husband, Paul Plott; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Albert Chitwood, Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Janie Lynch, Demorest; five brothers, Paul Wade, Dewey Wade, Buford Wade, Richard Wade and Grady Wade, all of Demorest; three sisters, Charlotte Freeman and Joyce Turner, both of Demorest, and Sophronia Pettie, Cleveland; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home.

MRS. WILLIAMS
Homemaker
CORNELIA - Mrs. Mildred Williams, 93, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at a private nursing center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Williams was born November 8, 1906, in Rabun County.
She was a homemaker and the oldest member of the Baldwin Church of God. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Charles Williams, and a son, E.C. Williams.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 31, at the Baldwin Church of God with the Revs. Luke Parsons and Bill Cox officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include four sons, Charlie "Shorty" Williams, Billy J. Williams and Reggie Williams, all of Cornelia, and Jimmy Williams, Clarkesville; two sisters, Robbie Whitlock, Demorest, and Lucille Maney, Baldwin; 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

MR. TATE
Retired auto mechanic
HOSCHTON - John Nathaniel Tate, 82, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, following a brief illness.
Mr. Tate was born September 17, 1917, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Tom and Julie Cody Tate.
Mr. Tate was a retired auto mechanic and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Ann Wilson Tate.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, August 2, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Kenneth Brewer officiating.
Mr. Tate is survived by two sons, Douglas Tate and Damon Tate, both of Statham; two sisters, Maggie Pethel, Talmo, and Lillie Mae Ferguson, Gillsville; three brothers, Howard Tate, Eastman, Hubert Tate, Cumming, and Otis Tate, Talmo; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MR. VEAL
World War II veteran
COLBERT - A. Frank Veal, 75, died Sunday, July 30, 2000.
A native of Clarke County, Mr. Veal was a son of the late Willie Bell Archer and Howard Veal.
He was a veteran of World War II and a retired paramedic. Mr. Veal was a member of the First Christian Church, Athens, where he served as a deacon, and was a member of the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department and the Colbert Lions Club.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, August 1, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Ray Austin officiating.
Members of the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department and members of the Madison County Ambulance Service served as honor guard.
Mr. Veal is survived by his wife, Betty Thompson Veal; one son, Timothy F. Veal, Colbert; foster daughter, Susan Newman, Athens; two brothers, Hershel Archer, Jonesboro, and Tony Archer, Elberton; and two sisters, Joyce Nash, Marietta, and Ida Lee Jackson, Cornelia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or to the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department.

Ruby A. Guest
Mrs. Ruby Agatha Guest, 86, of Carlton, died Sunday, February 27, 2000.
Mrs. Guest was born in Madison County, a daughter of the late Arthur and Terrilla Looney Akins.
Mrs. Guest had worked in the textile industry, having been employed with Blue Bell Manufacturing, and was a member of New Town Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt E. Guest.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 29, at New Town Baptist Church with the Revs. James Yeargon and Tom Dial officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Johnny Guest, Herman Guest Jr., Thomas Guest, Mike Gunter, Mark Guest and Mike Davis served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Guest is survived by one daughter, Nancy L. Seymour, Carlton; and five grandchildren.

Hugh B. Hollis
Hugh B. Hollis, 71, of Athens, died Monday, February 21, 2000.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Hollis was a son of the late Bertha Hollis.
He was a retired salesman with the RC Cola Company and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, February 23, in Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Jamie Doster officiating.
Survivors include one son, Tracy Hollis Sr., Danielsville; two sisters, Ruby Hollis and Frances Hollis, both of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, W.D. Hollis; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Jessie L. Addington
Jessie Lee Addington, 73, of Milledgeville, formerly of Hull, died Sunday, February 20, 2000.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Addington was a resident of the Georgia War Veterans Home. He was a son of the late Hubert Paul and Nancy Ledford Addington.
Mr. Addington was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marine, the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mable Pauline Scoggins.
Graveside services were held Friday, February 25, in Athens Memory Gardens with the Rev. Mike Hudman officiating.
Survivors include nieces, Marian Thomas, Colbert, and Kay S. Pickett, Pocataligo; nephew, Larry Scoggins, Danielsville; and 21 other nieces and nephews.

John Morris Jr.
John Morris Jr., 25, of Commerce, died Thursday, February 24, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mr. Morris was born January 9, 1975, in Jackson County. He was a son of John Morris Sr., Jefferson, and Kathy Pace Morris.
Mr. Morris was employed with Alridge Inc.
Memorial services were held Saturday, February 26, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. David Ball officiating. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one sister, Jennifer Kent, Maysville; and grandparents, John and Lois Morris, Commerce, and George Pace, Nicholson.
