Dorothy Scoggins
Mrs. Dorothy Scoggins, 75, of Colbert, died Thursday, February 24, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Scoggins was a daughter of the late George T. and Hettie Craig Hawkes.
She was a seamstress and was a member of Colbert Baptist Church. Mrs. Scoggins was preceded in death by her husband, Haley Scoggins.
Graveside services were held Saturday, February 26, in Colbert cemetery with the Rev. Noel Cooper officiating.
Mrs. Scoggins is survived by a sister, Mary Reid, Colbert; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Allene H. Sanders
Mrs. Allene H. Sanders, 90, of Danielsville, died Thursday, February 24, 2000.
A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Sanders was a daughter of the late Charlie and Susan Fowler Higginbotham.
She was a homemaker and a member of Danielsville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A. Sanders.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 26, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens. Ricky Higginbotham, Randolph Moore, Kelly Paul, Dwayne Jordan, Michael Jordan, Pete Porterfield, James Patton and Clarence Higginbotham Jr. served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Sanders and Larry Pierce.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Shirley Sanders, Watkinsville, Edward and Faye Sanders, Danielsville, and Bobby and June Sanders, Athens; one sister, Dallis Tebeau, Marietta; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, Athens, GA 30605.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Hubert M. Chastain
Hubert M. Chastain, 88, of Hull, died Thursday, February 24, 2000.
Mr. Chastain was born in Clarke County, a son of the late John E. and Daxie C. Chastain.
He was retired, having been self-employed as a metal operator, and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Chastain was preceded in death by his wife, Marcelene Williams Chastain.
Graveside services were held Saturday, February 26, in Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Luther Fouche officiating.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Epps, Dearing, and Janelle Vinging, Savannah; and one brother, Lawrence Chastain, Macon.
Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.

Thelma H. Smith
Mrs. Thelma Hix Smith, 88, of Athens, died Monday, February 28, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Smith lived in the Athens area for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late John and Myrtle Streetman Hix.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Guy Smith.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Larry Davidson officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Ray Butler, Ed Berry, Chuck Garrett, Rick Garrett, Rick Bernstein, Jason Bernstein and David Morris served as pallbearers.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Garrett, Statham, Helen Hendrix, Athens, and Ruth Griffin, Bogart; one sister, Ora Anderson, Commerce; grandchildren, Raymond Bulter, Anita Therriault, Kathryn Berry, Patricia Bernstein, Church Garrett, Rick Garrett, Larry Strickland, Judy Callahan and Carol Buiza; 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Living Word Baptist Church, 2761 Monroe Hwy., Bogart, GA 30622, or to Oconee Heights Baptist Church, 4180 Jefferson Road, Athens, GA 30607.
Bernstein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Nelson H. Hollifield
Nelson Hugh Hollifield, 94, of Commerce, died Friday, February 25, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Hollifield was born May 31, 1905, in Lumpkin County. He was a son of the late John Hollifield and Ester Hollifield.
Mr. Hollifield was retired from Harmony Grove Mills, Commerce, and was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Richey Hollifield.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 27, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Curtis Green officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Joe L. Hollifield, Commerce, and Charles Hollifield, Warner Robins; two daughters, Geraldine Carithers and Betty Mize, both of Commerce; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Laura E. Bowen
Mrs. Laura Elizabeth Bowers Bowen, 83, of Comer, formerly of Griffin, died Saturday, February 26, 2000, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston.
Mrs. Bowen was born January 17, 1917, in Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late Sam Bowers and Bessie Haley Bowers.
Mrs. Bowen attended Wesleyan College and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. She worked as a guidance counselor at the high school and junior high levels and worked with the Governor's Honors program.
Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her husband, James Young Bowen, and a sister, Virginia Bowers Miller.
Graveside services were held Monday, February 28, in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston, with the Revs. John Alexander and Mack Riley officiating.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia Bowen and Alan O. Maier, Lafayette, La., Laura Elizabeth Bowen and Ralph C. Waters, Frostproof, Fla., and Marjorie Bowen and F. Pat Graham, Danielsville; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, James and Marjorie Maier and Cory, Michael, Samuel and Charity Waters; and three nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Danielsville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 145, Danielsville, GA 30633, the First United Methodist Church of Griffin, 1401 Maple Dr., Griffin, GA 30224, or to the charity of one's choice.
Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, was in charge of arrangements.

Angela J. Kittle
Mrs. Angela Jean Thurmond Kittle, 24, of Athens, died Sunday, February 27, 2000.
Mrs. Kittle was born in Clarke County, a daughter of Wade Jasper and Kathy Clark Thurmond, Statham.
She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1, at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Miles officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Marc Kittle; three daughters, Kayla N. Kittle, Andrea B. Kittle and Brianna M. Kittle, all of Athens; one son, Jeremy Marc Kittle, Athens; one sister, Melissa Thurmond, Jefferson; and one brother, Michael Thurmond, Commerce.
Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, was in charge of arrangements.

Gussie H. Niles
Mrs. Gussie H. Niles, 59, of Commerce, died Thursday, February 24, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Niles was born in Oglethorpe, the daughter of the late Katie Mae Hudson McKenley.
She received her education in Jackson County.
Mrs. Niles was preceded in death by a brother, Roosevelt McKenley.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 26, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Commerce, with the Rev. Draco Brown officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Niles; three sons, Robert Niles and Leroy Niles, both of Commerce, and Willie Niles, Rome; one brother, Bruce T. Hudson, Hephziba; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Forestglen Mortuary Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

MR. MCGEE
Sunrise cemetery rites
MAYSVILLE - Jesse L. McGee, 69, died Friday, December 24, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens.
Mr. McGee was born December 9, 1930, in Ocilla. He was a son of the late Jesse B. and Rosa Burroughs McGee.
Mr. McGee was self-employed. He was preceded in death by a son, Odis McGee, Orlando, Fla.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 27, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Richard James officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis McGee; two sons, Jesse E. McGee, Maysville, and Johnny L. McGee, Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Rosalind Bibby and Janice Webb, both of Maysville, and Sandra Oromero, Kenly, N.C.; three brothers, Herman McGee, Portsmouth, N.H., Leroy McGee, Plymouth, Fla., and Odis McGee, Newington, N.H.; two sisters, Judy McCook, Broxton, and Pearl Purvis, Ocilla; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. CASH
Retired school teacher
HOMER - Mrs. Flora Irene Cash, 85, died Saturday, January 1, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Cash was born February 21, 1914, in Homer. She was a daughter of the late William and Mary Elizabeth Poole Crump.
Mrs. Cash retired from the Banks County School System as a teacher, with 32 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cash was preceded in death by her husband, Admiral Cash.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 3, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial was in Banks County Memorial Gardens, Homer.
Survivors include one son, Harold Cash, Homer; one daughter, Milinder Clark, Lula; one sister, Bessie Cash, Homer; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.
