MR. DUVALL
World War II veteran
GAINESVILLE - Earl H. Duvall Jr., 74, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000, at Lanier Park Hospital, Gainesville, following a sudden illness.
A native of Towns County, Mr. Duvall was born October 10, 1926, to the late Harley and Ethal Waldroup Duvall.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, where he received many distinguished medals. Mr. Duvall retired from Colonial Foods (Big Star), with 36 years of service. He was also employed with Lanier Park Hospital, with more than 10 years of service. He was of the Baptist denomination.
Mr. Duvall was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mary Louise Reeves Duvall.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 6, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Rev. Ralph O. Smith officiating. Burial was in Alta Vista Cemetery, Gainesville.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jerry Smith, Bishop, Sharon and Bill McClung, Braselton, and Debbie and Doug Cooper and Patti and Warren Minton, all of Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Johnnie Beaver, St. Mary's; grandchildren, Jill Combs, Stephanie Smith, Chad Cope, Kim Buffington, Jessica Cooper, Michael Cooper, Lindsey Cooper and John Minton; and great-grandchildren, Zach Cope, Austin Cope and Brent Buffington.

MRS. MARTIN
Clock maker
NICHOLSON - Mrs. Joan H. Martin, 71, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Martin was born May 10, 1929, a daughter of the late Ralph and Ellis Wilbanks Hosch.
She was a clock maker. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Guytrell Martin.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 6, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Henry Webb, Kent Crawford and John Turlington officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Martin is survived by one son, Guy Martin, Commerce; one daughter, Nora Martin, Martin; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

MRS. DAVIS
Clarke County native
DANIELSVILLE - Mrs. Doris Stephens Davis, 57, died Friday, October 6, 2000.
A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late Ernest and Emilelia Archer Stephens.
She was employed with the Madison County School System and had lived in the Danielsville area for over 25 years.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 8, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Billy Fowler officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Jimmy L. Davis; one son, Christopher Davis, Danielsville; and two sisters and two brothers.

Helen J. Dallmeyer
Mrs. Helen J. Dallmeyer, 85, of Danielsville, died Thursday, July 27, 2000.
Mrs. Dallmeyer was born in Champaign County, Ill., a daughter of the late Homer and Anna Libka Johnson.
She had worked as a secretary for Washington University in St. Louis and was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Mrs. Dallmeyer was also a member of the Indian Wells Garden Club, Child Help and Marywood School, all in Palm Springs, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray D. Dallmeyer.
Mrs. Dallmeyer is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ray David and Dorinda G. Dallmeyer, Danielsville.

Michael T. Bowen
Michael T. Bowen, 21, of Commerce, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000.
Born in Clarke County, Mr. Bowen was a son of James T. Bowen Jr. and the late Margaret Strickland Bowen.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 29, at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bowen is survived by one sister, Jeanette A. Bowen, Athens; and one brother, Timothy B. Bowen, Hull.

Betty L. Williams
Mrs. Betty L. Christian Williams, 61, of Danielsville, died Saturday, July 29, 2000.
Mrs. Williams was born in Clarke County, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Harper Christian.
She had worked as a medical assistant with Dr. Zuniga and was a member of New Haven Church. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by a daughter, Jerrie Fowler.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 1, at New Haven Church with the Rev. Rufus Miller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. George Elrod, Melvin Drake, Michael Bonner, Jason Manley, Clay Kelly and Danny Escoe served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Cletta Fredericks and Patricia Nix.
Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters, Linda Kelly, Loganville, and Deborah Foster, Danielsville; one son, Johnny Williams, Hull; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A. Frank Veal
A. Frank Veal, 75, of Colbert, died Sunday, July 30, 2000.
A native of Clarke County, Mr. Veal was a son of the late Willie Bell Archer and Howard Veal.
He was a veteran of World War II and a retired paramedic. Mr. Veal was a member of the First Christian Church, Athens, where he served as a deacon, and was a member of the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department and the Colbert Lions Club.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, August 1, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Ray Austin officiating. Members of the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department and members of the Madison County Ambulance Service served as honor guard.
Mr. Veal is survived by his wife, Betty Thompson Veal; one son, Timothy F. Veal, Colbert; foster daughter, Susan Newman, Athens; two brothers, Hershel Archer, Jonesboro, and Tony Archer, Elberton; and two sisters, Joyce Nash, Marietta, and Ida Lee Jackson, Cornelia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or to the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department.

Grady J. Flanagan
Grady Jennings Flanagan, 66, of Comer, died Saturday, July 29, 2000.
Mr. Flanagan was born in Fulton County, a son of the late William Grady and Tallie Jennings Flanagan.
A graduate of the University of Georgia, he was a retired businessman. Mr. Flanagan was a veteran of the United States Army.
Graveside services were held Monday, July 31, in the Mars Hill Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Survivors include three sons, Robert Flanagan, Woodstock, Jeff Flanagan, Beaverton, Ore., and Mark Flanagan, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Eleanor Rose Gooch, Williamsburg, Va., and Serena Wick, Atlanta; one brother, William Robert Flanagan, Virginia Beach, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Allene Thaxton Escoe, 89, of Athens, died Saturday, July 29, 2000.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Escoe was a daughter of the late Henry Lee and Caroline Judson Wynne Thaxton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Reese Escoe.
Graveside services were held Monday, July 31, in Wynne-Thaxton cemetery with her grandson, Skeeter Bush, officiating.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Brenda Escoe, Colbert; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and George Bush, Watkinsville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

George A. Hart
George A. Hart, 77, of Royston, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hart was born December 4, 1922, in Greenville County, S.C. He was a son of the late William Walker Hart Sr. and Lillie Mae Babb Hart.
Mr. Hart was a veteran of the Unites States Marines and had worked in construction. He was a member of Bellview Baptist Church, Woodruff, S.C. Mr. Hart was preceded in death by two brothers, J.T. Holton Hart and Leeroy Hart.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 28, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Dayton Logan officiating. Burial was in the Bellview Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Hart is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Jordan Hart; one brother, Bill Hart Jr., Woodruff, S.C.; three sisters, Minnie Lancaster, Beatrice Burdette and Lorene Jennings, all of Woodruff, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
