Walton J. Ashworth
Walton Johnson "Jake" Ashworth, 86, of Royston, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at Cobb Memorial Hospital, Royston.
Mr. Ashworth was born September 6, 1914, in Madison County, a son of the late John William "Will" Ashworth and Ollie Tucker Ashworth.
He was a carpenter and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Bowman. His wife was the late Mary Louise Fortson Ashworth.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Ashworth was preceded in death by two grandsons, Ronald and Donald Kidd, two brothers and three sisters. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 7, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Tim Peek and Brian Clark officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Jacob Ashworth, Doug Ashworth, Donnie Ashworth, Robby Kidd, Cody McCreary, Mark Pruitt, William Pruitt and Steve Barnes served as pallbearers.
Survivors include one son, Jimmy M. Ashworth, Royston; two daughters, Lynn A. Pruitt, Royston, and Jane A. Kidd, Dewy Rose; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 2584 Pleasant Grove Road, Bowman, GA 30624.
Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John P. Boswell
John Perino Boswell, 79, of Maysville, died Monday, December 11, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Boswell was born May 20, 1921, in Banks County. He was a son of the late Charles and Zora Bryant Boswell.
Mr. Boswell was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a retired police chief of Maysville. He was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church and a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association.
Mr. Boswell was preceded in death by a son, Herman Boswell.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 13, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Donald Tritt and David Bowen officiating. Burial was in Sunrise Cemetery, Maysville.
Mr. Boswell is survived by his wife, Ola Mae Carroll Boswell, Maysville; four sons, John Boswell, Norman Boswell and Otis Boswell, all of Maysville, and L. Glynn Boswell, Commerce; two daughters, Martha Lewis, Maysville, and Joyce Wilson, Alto; five brothers, Bryan Boswell, Carnesville, Charles Boswell, Fairmont, George Boswell, Commerce, and Glynn Boswell and Journey R. Boswell, both of Maysville; four sisters, Mollie Blackwell, Homer, Laura Livingston, East Point, and Willie Sears and Georgialeen Thurmond, both of Maysville; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dartha N. Waldroup
Mrs. Dartha Nora Martin Waldroup, 73, of Commerce, died Saturday, December 9, 2000, at her residence.
Mrs. Waldroup was born December 29, 1926, in Oconee County, S.C. She was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Ethel Henderson Martin.
Mrs. Waldroup was a homemaker and a member of Center Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Telford Minish, and her second husband, Bill Waldroup.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 10, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Terry James officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Minish, Nicholson, and Parris Minish, Danielsville; one daughter, Linda Ingram, Nicholson; two brothers, Clayton Martin, Atlanta, and J.L. Martin, Lula; one sister, Uree Sears, Anderson, S.C.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ora L. Morris
Miss Ora Lee Morris, 94, of Colbert, died Thursday, December 7, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Miss Morris was a daughter of the late John Zed and Evie Rowe Morris.
She was a retired seamstress with Blue Bell Manufacturing and Colbert Manufacturing Plant and was a member of Colbert Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 9, at Colbert Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. Burial was in the Colbert City Cemetery.
Survivors include two sisters, Lillie Ree James and Mammie Lou Benton, both of Colbert; and several nieces and nephews.
Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Betty B. O'Kelley
Mrs. Betty Barrett O'Kelley, 60, of Danielsville, died Sunday, December 10, 2000.
A native of Clarke County, Mrs. O'Kelley had lived most of her life in Madison County. She was a daughter of Willie Mae Barrett and the late William Coile Barrett Sr.
Mrs. O'Kelley had worked in the funeral business for 18 years and was employed by Lord & Stephens Funeral Home until her illness. She was a member and past president of the Athens Chapter of The Professional Secretaries International Association and was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church (DOC).
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 13, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Ray Austin officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Ray Neil O'Kelley; one son, Michael Neil O'Kelley, Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Melodi O'Kelley Bennett and Edward D. Bennett, Athens; one sister, Carole O'Kelley, Athens; one brother, William Coile Barrett Jr., Hull; one granddaughter, Hannah Leigh Bennett, Athens; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association, 919 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1100, Chicago, IL 60611-1677.

Katie Toney
Mrs. Katie Toney, 80, of Colbert, died Monday, December 4, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Toney was a daughter of the late James Redden and Annie Sharp Morris.
She was a retired seamstress and was a homemaker for many years. Mrs. Toney was a member of Colbert United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Harvey "Bill" Toney, two brothers, C.B. Morris and Johnny Morris, and a sister, Lucille Morris.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 7, at Colbert United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Haralson officiating. Burial was in the Colbert Cemetery. David Rutledge, Joe Donald Morris, Mike Morris, Randy Morris, Jimmy Osborne and Malone Cunard served as pallbearers.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Toney Rutledge and Kenneth Rutledge, Hull, and Rhonda Toney Shedd and Raymond Shedd, Colbert; grandchildren, Jill Rutledge Kidd, Carlton, and David Rutledge, Hull; great-grandchild, Kaylin Kidd, Carlton; three sisters, Marie Morris, Irene Osborne and Betty Logan, all of Colbert; and two brothers, Joe Morris and Clifford Morris, both of Colbert.

Marvin B. Fortson
Marvin Blanton Fortson, 78, of Danielsville, died at his residence Sunday, December 10, 2000.
Mr. Fortson was born July 24, 1922, in Madison County, a son of the late John Lace Fortson and Sallie McConnell Fortson.
He was a retired farmer, a Mason and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Mr. Fortson was preceded in death by 12 brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 12, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Revs. Glenn Guest and Tim Peek officiating. Burial was in the Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two sisters, Sallie Bragg, Kannapolis, N.C., and Jessie Mae Dean Parker, Charlotte, N.C.; special nephews, Mike Fortson and Dwight Fortson, both of Danielsville; special great-nephew, Chris Fortson, Danielsville; special great-nieces, Sally Adams, Ila, and Sherry Dove, Danielsville; and several other nieces and nephews.
Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. LONGMATE
Retired schoolteacher
JEFFERSON - Mrs. Gola M. Longmate, 87, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mrs. Longmate was born February 21, 1913, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of the late William and Annie Moore Morgan.
Mrs. Longmate was a graduate of Brenau College for Women, Gainesville, and a graduate of Columbia University of New York, where she received a master's degree in English literature.
She was a retired schoolteacher and a member of Elmhurst Baptist Church, New York.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 11, in the chapel of Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Vernon Grimes officiating. Burial was in Albany, N.Y.
Survivors include her husband, Harrison Longmate; one daughter, Annie Lynne DeVito, New York; two sons, Morgan Dean Longmate, Albany, N.Y., and Robin Halbert Longmate, West Babylon, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brenau College, Gainesville, Georgia.
Jackson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. SIMS
Former Apple Valley Baptist pianist
COMMERCE - Mrs. Frances Sims, 101, of the Apple Valley Community, died Thursday, March 9, 2000.
Mrs. Sims was a daughter of the late Truman Jarrett and Sarah Jane White Barber.
She served as church pianist at Apple Valley Baptist Church for 65 years and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband, Colquitt Sims Sr.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 12, at Apple Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Clark Ivey officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Colquitt Sims Jr., Anderson, S.C., Eddie F. Sims, Melbourne, Fla., and Johnny C. Sims, Konstanz, Germany; one daughter, Mary Helen Sims Bannister, Ila; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Apple Valley Baptist Church, c/o Don Seagraves, 1454 Mauldin Road, Jefferson, GA 30549.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. MAYFIELD
Johntown cemetery rites
COMMERCE - Mrs. Selma M. Mayfield, 94, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at BJC Nursing Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Mayfield was a daughter of the late Henry and Pearlie Hopaon White.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mayfield, and a son, Columbus Mayfield.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 12, at Warren Chapel United Methodist Church, Commerce, with the Rev. Willie Frank Pattman officiating. Burial was in Johntown Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, George Mayfield, Commerce; two daughters, Edna David, Commerce, and Mary Ruth Marion, Ohio; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
