COMMERCE - Mrs. Olive Pinkerton King, 84, died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. King was born September 9, 1915, in Putnam County. She was a daughter of the late William Harry and Mammie Wiley Pinkerton.
Mrs. King had worked as a secretary and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ernest King.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Carlton Peters and Jerry Payne and Minister Tom Plank officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Christian Church cemetery.
Mrs. King is survived by two daughters, Harriett Gailey, Homer, and Sally Lou King, Gainesville; one sister, Frances Mansell, Roswell; two granddaughters, Amy Presley, Commerce, and Anna Gailey, Homer; and a sister-in-law, Kate Martin, Jefferson.
Memorials may be made to the Jackson County Senior Citizens Center, 219 Darnell Road, Jefferson, GA 30549.

MRS. DILLON

GAINESVILLE - Mrs. Doris Lingerfelt Dillon, 58, died Thursday, August 3, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Dillon was born in Lumpkin County, a daughter of the late Cicero and Madge Mincey Lingerfelt.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist denomination. Mrs. Dillon was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Furth, a daughter, Ginger Furth, and a brother, Ben Lingerfelt.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 5, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Home, Gainesville, with the Rev. Ralph O. Smith officiating. Burial was in Alta Vista Cemetery.
Mrs. Dillon is survived by her husband, Otto Dillon; daughters and sons-in-law, Missy and Alan Yearwood, Flowery Branch, and Debbie and Wyndell Wade, Statham; six brothers, Hubert Lingerfelt, Winder, Gene Lingerfelt, Rome, and Ronald Lingerfelt, M.C. Lingerfelt, J.B. Lingerfelt and Ralph Lingerfelt, all of Dahlonega; four sisters, Edna Tate, Gainesville, Joyce Mize, Dacula, Lois Arthur, Dahlonega, and Bonnie Gardiner, Maysville; and two grandchildren, Kyle Wade and Alea Yearwood.

MR. HERRING
Retired pharmacist
ANDERSON, S.C. - Edward Patrick (E.P.) Herring, 82, a retired pharmacist, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center, Anderson, S.C., following a long illness.
A native of Clarkesville, Mr. Herring was a son of the late Elijah Patrick and Julia Ann Herring.
He was the owner of Herring's Pharmacy in Hapeville for 21 years, later retiring from Anderson Hospital. Mr. Herring was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson, and a member of the Jerry Neal Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by a son, Wilford Gwynn Herring.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 4, in the chapel of McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, S.C. Burial was in the Nimblewill Baptist Church cemetery, Lumpkin County, on Saturday, August 5.
Mr. Herring is survived by his wife, Ann Cronan Herring; two sons, Edward Lee Herring, Maysville, and Matthew Patrick Herring, Anderson, S.C.; one daughter, Sarah Catherine "Katie" Herring, Anderson, S.C.; one sister, Nellie Dover, Clarkesville; two brothers, Floyd Herring and W.S. Herring, both of Atlanta; and three grandchildren, Kim Savage, Maysville, and Andy Conners and Jamee Gilson, both of Florida.

MR. RAMEY
Father of six
OAKWOOD - William Vaughn Ramey, 76, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000.
Mr. Ramey was born March 28, 1924, in Rabun County. He was a son of the late Nat Ramey and Evie Lee Simmons.
Mr. Ramey had been employed with Wayne Brothers and was of the Baptist denomination. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Bingham Ramey.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 4, in the chapel of Daniels Mortuary, Clayton, with the Rev. J.C. Quilliams officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. James Ramey, Gregg Cofer, William Russell, Tom Anderson, Jason Timms, Billy O'Shields and Larry O'Shields served as pallbearers.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, William Earl and Laura Ramey, Alto, James Leonard and Chellye Ramey and Glenn and Bernice Ramey, all of Flowery Branch, and Norman and Marie Ramey, Buford; son, Steve Douglas Ramey, Lula; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Sue and Thomas Russell, Oakwood; one brother, Bobby Ramey, Tiger; four sisters, Marie O'Shields, Calhoun, Pauline Volyes, Toccoa, Betty York, Martin, and Louise Williams; seven grandchildren, Rose Louise Wisnswki, Toccoa, Anglea Paulette Cofer, Gainesville, Jenifer Lynn Fortner, Jefferson, and James Leonard Ramey Jr., Rebecca Marie Ramey, Pamela Louise Ramey and Joshual Norman Ramey; and four great-grandsons.

COMMERCE - Mr. Gordon M. Eubanks, 89, died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
Mr. Eubanks was born December 4, 1910, a son of the late Henry Joseph and Rebecca Seay Eubanks.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 8, in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce, with Dr. Don Paulson officiating.
Mr. Eubanks is survived by a granddaughter, Jill Morris; one sister, Clara Benton, Commerce; a nephew and his wife, the Rev. Roger and Faye Benton, Moultrie; and a great-niece and nephew, Valerie Moore and Danny Benton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

WINDER - Mrs. Vera Gann, 82, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000.
Born in Jackson County, Mrs. Gann was a daughter of the late Clyde and Margie Reynolds.
A former resident of Braselton, she had resided in Winder since 1960, and was a member of Center United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 3, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Howard Banks officiating. Burial was in the Walnut Fork Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Carlyle, Lenoir City, Tenn.; two sons, Neal Watkins, Homer, and Bobby Watkins, Hoschton; one brother, Horace Richardson, Braselton; two sisters, Mildred McNeal, Hoschton, and Frankie Holland, Jefferson; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Howington cemetery rites
ATHENS - Mrs. Mary Jane Tench, 83, died Monday, August 7, 2000, at her residence.
Mrs. Tench was born December 20, 1916.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Tench, and her husband, Claude Poss.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 9, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in Howington Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Lewis Tench, Athens; one brother, Quillan Tench, Baldwin; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Betty J. Jones
Betty Jo Jones, 71, of Danielsville, died Friday, March 3, 2000.
A native and long-time resident of Fulton County, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of James E. Hudson, Hogansville, and the late Arabella Hayes.
She was employed with Foote and Davies Printing for several years in Atlanta before retiring and moving to Comer. Mrs. Jones was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Lakewood.
Graveside services were held Sunday, March 5, at Crestlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Layton Sampson officiating.
Survivors, in addition to her father, include her husband, Robert H. "Bob" Jones, Comer; two daughters, Deborah Diane Wood, Comer, and Sharon Gay Edge, Jonesboro; two sons, Robert Daniel Jones, Melbourne, Fla., and James Edward Jones, Atlanta; two sisters, Jean Askew, Royston, and Barbara Rutherford, Stone Mountain; stepmother, Frances Hudson, Hogansville; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

J.C. Cowart
J.C. Cowart, 75, of Hull, died Saturday, March 4, 2000.
A native of Clarke County, Mr. Cowart was a son of the late Earnest and Annie Smith Cowart.
He had worked for the State Highway Department of the Department of Transportation and was a member of Edwards Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 6, at Brown's Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in the Hull Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronny Doster, Asa Huff, Clay Huff and Grant Culbertson.
Survivors include his wife, Essie Whitehead Cowart; two daughters, Robin Doster, Colbert, and Susan Huff, Hull; two sons, Lewis Cowart, Hull, and Nelson Cowart, Cumming; one brother, Paul Cowart, Athens; four sisters, all of Crawford; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Craig P. Spratlin
Craig Pope Spratlin, 89, of Hull, died Monday, March 6, 2000.
A native and lifelong resident of Hull, Mr. Spratlin was a son of the late David Pope and Lucy Williams Spratlin.
He was a retired brick mason and a member of the Brick Layers Union. Mr. Spratlin, since the age of 14, was also a member of Hull Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School, served as deacon for a number of years and served as building superintendent during a construction period.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 8, at Hull Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. George Cronic, George Adair, Lance Thomason, O.P. Jones, Lawrence Tolbert and Charles Dooley served as pallbearers. Members of the Character Builders Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Johnson Spratlin; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Spratlin and Charles "Chip" Reid, Hull; one sister, Ruby Stewart, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, William Spratlin and Ted Spratlin, both of Hull; three grandchildren, Craig Reid, Rachel Reid and Molly Reid; and a number of nieces and nephews.
