COMMERCE - Mrs. Florence Sailers, 89, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at BJC Nursing Home.
Mrs. Sailers was born December 23, 1910, a daughter of the late Thomas Crow and Nora Carlan McConnell.
She was a housewife. Mrs. Sailers was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Sailers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 31, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Kent Cranford officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Park, Commerce.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Raphel Barnett, Commerce; daughter, Janice Slay, Winterville; one brother, Fred McConnell, Pittsburg, Texas; two sisters, Leona Hawks, Nicholson, and Ora Mae Pace, Athens; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Edward L. Roberts
Edward Lee "Ed" Roberts, 75, of Toccoa, died Saturday, May 27, 2000.
A native of Stephens County, Mr. Roberts was a son of the late Gillam H. and Maggie Myers Roberts.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and had been employed by the Internal Revenue Service. Mr. Roberts was a member of Hill Street Baptist Church and a member of Toccoa Masonic Lodge 309.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 29, in the chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with Dr. John Adams and the Rev. Jarrett Ragan officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery. Galen Garrett, Jerry Tate, Terry Brown, Jim Wertz, Perry Roberts and Donald Simmons served as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Miriam Ann Jones, McDonough, and Anita Louise Tate, Riverdale; one son, Odes Ed Roberts, West Union, S.C.; two sisters, Irene Roberts and Bertha Brown, both of Commerce; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

MR. JOHNSON
Former Crawford W. Long Museum director
ATLANTA - Weldon H. Johnson, 62, retired senior vice president of The Coca-Cola Company and president of The Coca-Cola Company's Latin America Group, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at his residence in Palm City, Fla.
Mr. Johnson was born July 25, 1937, in Atlanta and grew up in Jefferson.
He graduated from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Gridiron Secret Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta Honorary Pre-Medical Society and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Fraternity. He received the Terry College of Business Distinguished Alumni Award in 1994.
Mr. Johnson joined the Coca-Cola Company in January of 1965 and after numerous assignments in the United States, was sent to Tokyo, Japan, in 1977. In 1983, he was elected president of the Coca-Cola (Japan) Company, Limited. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1987, Mr. Johnson was elected senior vice president of The Coca-Cola Company and president of the Coca-Cola Latin American Group. He retired from this position in July of 1997.
Mr. Johnson served on the Board of Directors of Coca-Cola FEMSA, Panamerican Beverages Inc, Grupo Continental, MasterCard Latin America, The Lance Corporation and Milton National Bank.
He was a director of the Crawford W. Long Museum in Jefferson, a former director of the Georgia and Atlanta units of the American Cancer Society, a former director of the Council of the Americas in New York and past chairman of the Corporate Council for the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. He served as a trustee and finance committee chairman of the University of Georgia Foundation.
In 1994, Mr. Johnson was decorated by the president of the Argentine Republic with the "Order of May for Merit" in the grade of Knight. He was a member of Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta, Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club and an invited member of The Floridian, both in Palm City, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at Patterson's Spring Hill Chapel with Dr. Thomas E. Leland officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Johnson; one son, Gregory C. Johnson, Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Deborah A. Johnson, Atlanta; his step-mother, Mrs. Hazel Turner Johnson, Palm Coast, Fla.; and two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Bearss and Hazel Johnson, both of Palm Coast, Fla.

Silver Shoals Baptist rites
HOMER - Jerry Lee Peyton, 41, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mr. Peyton was born July 17, 1958, a son of Geneva Peyton, Homer, and the late Rudolph Peyton.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 28, at Silver Shoals Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Parson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Peyton is survived by one brother, Michael Peyton, Commerce.

MR. GAMBLIN
U.S. Army veteran
MAYSVILLE - Lewis G. Gamblin, 75, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mr. Gamblin was born November 14, 1924, in Union County. He was a son of the late L.E. and Hattie Lunsford Gamblin.
Mr. Gamblin was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked as a mechanic. He was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 29, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in Crestlawn, Atlanta.
Survivors include one son, Eugene Gamblin, Atlanta; one daughter, Teresa Turco, Maysville; two step-sons, Larry Hill, Lithia Springs, and Jerry Noles, Peachtree City; two step-daughters, Jo Lynn Flynn, Villa Rica, and Brenda Mills, Maysville; and three grandchildren.

WINDER - Paul Burns, 83, died Sunday, May 28, 2000.
A native of Lumpkin County, Mr. Burns was a son of the late Frank and Mabel Shedd Burns.
He had resided in Winder for most of his life and was a retired sales representative with Greeson Motors of Monroe. Mr. Burns was a member of Winder First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. John Talley officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam Burns; two step-sons, J. Tom Dickens III, Evans, and W. Jackson Dickens, M.D., Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Dessie Malcolm, Grayson, and Ann Shelnutt, Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Lara and Jay Dickens, Columbus, Jackson Dickens Jr., Charlotte, N.C., and Stephanie Harding, Duluth; and great-grandchildren, Alex and Margaret Elaine Harding, both of Duluth.

STATHAM - Collin Evans, 17, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, in Oglethorpe County.
Mr. Evans was a son of Wendell and Shirley Evans, Statham.
He was a student at Oconee County High School.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 27, in Smith Memory Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder. Burial was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one brother, Drew Kinsey, Maysville; grandparents, Relle Drewry, Statham, and Margie Lord, Hoschton; and great-grandmother, Minnie Ruth Kirk, Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Collin Evans Memorial Fund at the Peoples Bank in Statham.

WINDER - Mrs. Lucille Elder, 82, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000.
A native and lifelong resident of Barrow County, Mrs. Elder was a daughter of the late Leonard B. and Ella Boss Dalton.
She was a retired seamstress and a member of Bethabra Baptist Church. Mrs. Elder was preceded in death by her husband, A.S. "Buck" Elder.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 26, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Terry Hawkins officiating. Burial was in the Bethabra Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Sauls and Reba Bunn, both of Winder; two sisters, Willie Mae Day and Dora Fagan, both of Winder; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

CARLTON - Jimmy Lowell Mattox, 64, died Saturday, May 27, 2000.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Mattox was a son of the late John A. and Rossie Lovinggood Mattox.
He was a quarry man in the granite industry and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 29, in the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home, Elberton, with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Burial was in Forrest Hills Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Pauline McCannon Mattox; two daughters, Rose Bruce, Carlton, and Josephine Parker, Nicholson; three sons, Henry Mattox and David Mattox, both of Elberton, and Chuck McCannon, Barnesville; two sisters, Lessie Scott, Crawford, and Nell McCannon, Carlton; two brothers, William B. Mattox, Crawford, and George B. Mattox, Lexington; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
