Waymon Howard Widener
Services for Waymon Howard Widener of Cadwell were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ Cemetery in Cedar Grove Community.
The Rev. Scott Davidson and the Rev. Daniel Gasser officiated.
Widener, 50, died Thursday, July 24, 2003. He was the son of the late Kenny and Helen Brack Widener and was the husband of Faye Widener.
He was a native of Dodge county and was a carpet installer.
In addition to his wife, survivors included his daughter, Sara Harper of Alamo; son, Bobby Widener of Alamo; sisters, Louise Turner of Glenwood and Dale Widener of Cadwell; brothers, Vernon Widener of Eastman and Ashley “Duck” Widener of Chauncey, and four grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Charles Wise Williams
Services for Charles Wise Williams of Alamo were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 27 in the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment at Little Rock Cemetery.
The Rev. L.S. Seabolt officiated.
Williams, 35, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003. He was a native of Clearwater, Fla. and was a carpenter. He was the son of Paul and Juanita Williams of Alamo.
In addition to his parents, survivors included his brothers, Jack Williams of Clearwater, Fla., Richard Williams of Newport Richey, Fla., and Austin Williams of Zebulon.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of arrangements.
Charles Harris Sr.
Services for Charles Harris Sr. of Chauncey were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, at the chapel of Southerland Funeral Home with interment in Chauncey Cemetery in Dodge county.
The Rev. Daniel Cook and the Rev. Robbie Passmore officiated.
Harris, 75, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003. He was the son of the late Andrew James Harris and Christine Moore Harris. He was the husband of Hattie Cook Harris of Chauncey.
A native of Tattnall county he had lived in Jacksonville, Fla. for 55 years and a resident of Chauncey since 1991. He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy, a retired carrier for the Atlanta Journal Constitution and a member of the Eastman Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, survivors included his daughter, Diane Dillon of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Ricky Harris of Cottageville, S.C., Charles Harris Jr. of Brunswick, and Edward Harris of Chauncey; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Stokes Southerland Funeral Home of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
James Alexander Parsons
Services for James Alexander Parsons of Jacksonville, Fla. were held Saturday, July 19.
Parsons, 83, died Thursday, July 17, 2003. He was born in McRae and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish and York Rite and the Morocco Shrine Center. He was of the Methodist faith and was married to Marjorie D. Parsons.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his brother, Robert M. Parsons Sr. of Atlanta; nephew, Robert M. Parsons, Jr. of Roswell; and niece, Margaret Anne Barrow of Mt. Vernon, ME.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital, the Methodist Childrens Home in Macon, Ga. or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Jacksonville, Fla. was in charge of arrangements.
Stella Irene Walker
Services for Stella Irene Walker were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Rhine with interment in Hopewell Cemetery.
The Rev. Larry Thompson and the Rev. Dan Jones officiated.
Walker, 93, died Thursday, July 17, 2003. She was the daughter of the late William Loyd Fincher and Veta Pearl Maddox. She was preceded in death by her husband Marion Bennie Walker and by a daughter Veta Hilliard.
She was born in Newton County and had lived in Telfair County since childhood. She was a retired agent for an independent life insurance company, member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church serving as past treasurer and Sunday school teacher.
Survivors included her sons, Jerome Walker of Rhine, and Robert Walker of Statesboro; son-in-law, Jimmy Hilliard of Rhine; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Stokes Southerland of Eastman was in charge of arrangements.
Claire Council Zorn
Services for Claire Council Zorn of Jesup were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the First United Methodist Church with interment in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.
The Rev. Byron Scott and Dr. Julian Tucker officiated.
Zorn, 73, died Thursday, July 17, 2003. She was a native of Telfair County and had lived most of her life in Jesup. She was the daughter of the late James Campbell and Louise Ogburn Council. She was the widow of William A. Zorn.
She was a member of Jesup First United Methodist Church, the Joy Class, Wesley singers and served on numerous committees in the church.
Survivors included her daughter, Karen Forshee of Gainesville; sons, Bill Zorn Jr. of St. Simons Island, Jim Zorn of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., and Bob Zorn of Duluth; sister, Ellen Council of Waycross and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 205 E. Cherry St., Jesup, Ga., 31545 and Hospice of South Georgia, 181 N. Brunswick St., Jesup, Ga., 31545.
The Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Durden Boyd
Graveside services for Ruth Durden Boyd of Albany were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 at Telfair Memorial Gardens of McRae.
The Rev. William Connell officiated services.
Boyd, 93, of Albany died Sunday, July 13, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Fair Durden and Carrie Dickson Durden. She was the widow of Herbert Lee Boyd.
A native of Twin City and a past resident of McRae, she had resided in Albany for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of McRae and attended Sherwood Baptist Church of Albany.
Survivors include sons, Dr. Donald L. Boyd of Leesburg, Robert Charles Boyd of Swainsboro; step-daughter, Anne Boyd Connally of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Mary Elizabeth Yarborough of Atlanta; brothers, F. Dickson Durden of Twin City, J. Eugene Durden of Roswell and Walter David Durden of Williamsburg, Va. and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 484, McRae, Ga., 31055 or a favorite charity.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae were in charge of arrangements.
John E. Briley
Services for John E. Briley of Jacksonville, Fla., were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at the Chapel of Hewell and Son Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Fla., with interment at 4 p.m. at Jacksonville, Ga. Cemetery.
Briley, 81, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Wednesday, July 9, 2003. He was the son of the late John and Rose Ella Briley. He was the widower of Lena Jo Lowe Briley.
He was a native of Telfair county and was a retired contractor.
Survivors included a daughter, Kim Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Randy Briley of Jacksonville, Fla., Marty Briley of Middleburg, Fla. and Terry Briley of Garland, Tx.; sisters, Christine Towns of McRae, Kathleen Durden, Maxine Odum, Jeanette Spaur and Wynette Bullington, all of Jacksonville, Fla., seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Lowe’s Funeral Home of Helena were in charge of local arrangements.
L.W. Griffin
Services for L.W. Griffin of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12 at the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Telfair Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Doyal Connell and the Rev. Bill Jones officiated services.
Griffin, 79, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003. He was the son of the late Mannie and Minnie Ruthford Griffin. He was the widower of Rachel Simpson Griffin.
A native of Lowndes county, he was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a member of Helena Masonic Lodge #536. He also was a retired salesperson with Jackson Wholesale Company.
Survivors include his son Billy Griffin of Eastman; step-son, Tommy Wright of Douglas; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Vaughn Funeral Home of McRae were in charge of arrangements.
