JEFFERSON - Mrs. Christine Vickery Lance, 60, died Friday, January 7, 2000, at Barrow Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mrs. Lance was born August 5, 1939, in Franklin County. She was a daughter of the late William Robert and Gracie Jordan Vickery.
Mrs. Lance was a retired seamstress and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial was in Danielsville Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Lance; two sisters, Sara Smith, Anderson, S.C., and Jeanette Orello, California; and one brother, Seab Vickery, Anderson, S.C.

MR. HOLLIS

PENDERGRASS - Stanley Hollis, 44, died Sunday, January 9, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
A native of Jackson County, Mr. Hollis was born July 15, 1955. He was a son of the late L.J. and Annie Maude Crane Hollis.
Mr. Hollis was employed in dry wall construction and was a member of Pond Fork Baptist Church, Pendergrass.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 12, in the chapel of Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Johnny Knight officiating. Burial was on the Pond Fork Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Hollis; one daughter, Stacy Hollis, Jefferson; one step-daughter, Amy Jo Edwards, Jefferson; three sons, Shane S. Hollis, Todd Hollis and Jason Hollis, all of Pendergrass; four sisters, Irene Funderburk and Judy Owens, both of Jefferson, Betty Hamilton, Maysville, and Debbie Poole, Gainesville; four brothers, J.D. Hollis, Lexington, and Hoyt Hollis, Danny Hollis and Jimmy Hollis, all of Pendergrass; and 11 grandchildren.

MAYSVILLE - Mrs. Willie Emmett Hooper, 81, died Saturday, January 8, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Hooper was born August 27, 1918, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Will Hope and Pearl Lewallen Emmett.
Mrs. Hooper was a retired seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Hooper.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in the Silver Shoals Baptist Church cemetery, Homer.
Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Ann Davis, Maysville, and Nadine Wardenga, Cleveland; two sisters, Mary Barnes and Doris McDonald, both of Commerce; and two grandchildren.

NICHOLSON - Gilbert Pace, 74, died Saturday, January 8, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Pace was born July 12, 1925, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late William Haynes and Maude Reynolds Pace.
Mr. Pace was retired from Gold Kist.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 10, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with Bradford Pace officiating. Burial was in the Antioch United Methodist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Michael Pace, Nicholson; granddaughter, Michelle Funderburk, Nicholson; grandson, Bradford Pace, Nicholson; two great-grandchildren and two nieces.

MRS. WHITFIELD

ALTO - Mrs. Dorinda Renee Cochran Whitfield, 30, died Sunday, January 9, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville.
Mrs. Whitfield was born July 16, 1969, in Jackson County. She was a daughter of Kenneth and Joan White Cochran, Commerce.
Mrs. Whitfield was employed with Baker & Taylor Company, Commerce.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 12, at Rock Springs Baptist Church, Lula, with the Revs. Chris Webb and Tony Goss officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Barry Whitfield; one son, B.J. Whitfield, Alto; one daughter, Brittany Whitfield, Alto; two sisters, Kendra Cochran and Dianne McQuillen, both of Commerce; and grandparents, Frances White and J.L. White, both of Lula.

ALTO - Mrs. Nettie McDuffie, 66, died Saturday, January 8, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. McDuffie was born February 28, 1933, in Hall County. She was a daughter of Josie Wade, Alto, and the late Arthur Pierce.
Mrs. McDuffie worked as a nursing assistant for a number of years at Scenic View Health Care Center and was a member of Alto Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy McDuffie.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 10, at Alto Baptist Church with the Revs. Sanford Kimbrell and Michael Parker officiating. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ernest Ivester officiating.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include four daughters, Jane Ivie Harrison and Janice Ivie Pitts, both of Cornelia, Jean Ivie Savage, Homer, and Kathy Ivie Duncan, Alto; one son, Jimmy Ivie, Cornelia; two sisters, Betty Stewart and Allie Savage, both of Alto; one step-sister, Jewell Cook, Alto; three brothers, Benny Pierce, Alto, Marvin Pierce, Gainesville, and Tony Wade, Maysville; one step-brother, Randolph Wade, Cornelia; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

MR. GOOCH
Farmer, carpenter
CLEVELAND - Radean Gooch, 75, died Friday, January 7, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Atlanta, following an extended illness.
Mr. Gooch was born in Hall County, but had lived in White County all of his life. He was a son of the late Warren and Cora Palmer Gooch.
Mr. Gooch was a farmer and carpenter and was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He had taught the adult Sunday School class for some 38 years.
Mr. Gooch was preceded in death by three brothers, Eldon Gooch, Marvin Gooch and Wayne Gooch.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris Anderson, Charles Buice, Benny Nix and Leon Thomason officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Gooch; son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Sandra Gooch, Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and Joel Bowen and Teresa and Jarvis Adams, all of Cleveland; six brothers, Gerald Gooch, Ronald Gooch, Clinton Gooch, Donald Gooch, Leroy Gooch and Wendell Gooch, all of Jackson County; one sister, Genelle King, Jackson County; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

TALMO - William Marion Dispain Sr., 70, died Thursday, January 6, 2000, at Pine Oak Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Dispain was born June 6, 1929, in Dawson County. He was a son of the late Harvey and Rindy Riddly Dispain.
Mr. Dispain had been self-employed as a paint and body specialist for many years in the Hall and Jackson county areas. He was a member of Browns Bridge Assembly of God.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, at Browns Bridge Assembly of God with the Rev. Robbie Coleman officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Kendrick Dispain; seven sons, William Dispain Jr. and Johnny, James and Jeff Kendrick, all of Gainesville, Phillip Keith Dispain and Jack Kendrick, both of Cleveland, and Kenneth Marion Simmons, Dahlonega; three daughters, Elizabeth Jimenez, San Antonio, Texas, Dianne Lovelace, Fayetteville, N.C., and Patricia Webb, Gainesville; three brothers, Homer and Harvey Dispain, both of Gainesville, and Morris Dispain, Athens; three sisters, Jewell Sullins and Shirley Harris, both of Gainesville, and Fannie Lou Martin, Dawsonville; 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

JEFFERSON - Albert Bailey died Monday, January 3, 2000, at Friendship Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mr. Bailey was born January 22, 1922, in Hall County. He was a son of the late Benny and Mammie Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was retired from Protein Foods, Gainesville, and was an active member of the Greater Timber Ridge Baptist Church, Gainesville, having served as a deacon and superintendent of the Sunday School. He was also a member of the Pastor's Aid Board.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, at Great Timber Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. R.E. Cooper officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rodney Collins, Michael Collins, Reggie Collins, James Rakestraw, Dontae Tabor and Eric Morrow served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Greater Timber Ridge Deacon Board. Sabine Barnett, Alisa Harvey, Nadia Rakestraw, Vanessa Barnett, Laquinta Hughey, Celisa Tabor, Sheila Rakestraw and Frandria Rakestraw served as flower attendants. Honorary flower attendants were members of the Greater Timber Ridge Deaconess Board.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie Bailey; five daughters, Mary L. Collins, Martha Smith and Melissa Barnett, all of Jefferson, and Annie Collins and Mary Holiday, both of Comelia; 26 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

MRS. MILAM

SANDY SPRINGS, S.C. - Mrs. Martha Jane Carson Milam, 63, died Friday, January 7, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Franklin County, Mrs. Milam was a daughter of the late Chester and Ruth Glasure Carson and the step-daughter of the late John Alley.
She was a graduate of Flora McDonald College, Red Springs, N.C. Mrs. Milam was a farmer and a member of Mount Zion Presbyterian Church, Sandy Springs, S.C.
She was a former member of Hebron Presbyterian Church and was director of Christian education at Annie Linley, Varennes, Flatrock, Mount Zion, Townville, Nell Townsend, and Fairplay Presbyterian churches. Mrs. Milam served as elder, Sunday School teacher and president of the Presbyterian Women at Mount Zion Presbyterian Church.
She also served as a firefighter, chairman of the board, auxiliary president and treasurer of the Sandy Springs Volunteer Fire Department, president and treasurer of the Hebron Historical Society, commissioner and secretary of the Anderson County Museum, president of the La France Elementary PTA and was a member of numerous Foothills Presbytery Committees.
Mrs. Milam conducted genealogical research, authored "A Dipper of Reflection from Sandy Springs" and co-authored "Hebron Presbyterian Church, God's Pilgrim People."
Services were held Monday, January 10, at Mount Zion Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Harper Milam; two sons, William Milam, Knoxville, Tenn., and Stephen Milam, Salisbury, N.C.; one daughter, Elizabeth Milam Lomas, Sandy Springs, S.C.; two brothers, William Carson, Commerce, and Roy Coker, Charlotte, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Mount Zion Presbyterian Church cemetery Fund, the Hebron Historical Society or to the Sandy Springs Fire Department Endowment.
