Services for Mary Lurene Hulett of Jacksonville were held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12 at Friendship Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Mike Eller and the Rev. Howard Hart officiated services.
Hulett, 69, died Thursday, July 10, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Hawkins and Irene McLeod Hulett. She was the widow of Jessie Hulett, Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, Jessie Hulett Jr.
A native and lifelong resident of Telfair county she was a member of Emmanuel Apostolic Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her children, Berta Roberson of McRae, Montine Partin of Hazlehurst, Donna Durden of McRae, John Hulett of Jacksonville, Billy Hulett of Douglas, Lucy Furney of Milan; brothers, Gerald Hulett of Bowling Green, Ky., A.J. “Tenny” Hulett and Thomas “Teate” Hulett both of Rhine; sisters, Ida Mae Register of Wray and Lessie Pittman of Rhine; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Jay, 55, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003. He was the son of the late Rev. Grover Cleveland Jay and the late Mrs. Johnnie Mitchell Jay.

Lewis H. Joyner
Services for Lewis H. Joyner of McRae were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 at the chapel of Lowe’s Funeral Home with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Joyner, 71, of McRae died Monday, July 7, 2003. A native of Evans county he had lived most of his life in Telfair county. He was the son of the late James Henry Kirkland and Miner Bell Kirkland Cravey of Helena. He was the husband of Dorothy Joyner of McRae
He was a member of the Helena Baptist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a retired electrician.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors included his daughter, Vicki J. Buford of Jesup; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Willie Ewell Rivers
Services for Willie Ewell Rivers of Jacksonville were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 13 at the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Rivers, 78, died Thursday, July 10, 2003. He was the son of the late Claude W. and Terry Denham Rivers. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Helena Masonic Lodge #536. A U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a retired bookkeeper for Brown’s Chevron.
Survivors include his brother, Emory Rivers of Broxton; sisters, Lucille Reaves of Jacksonville, Edna Lubin of Miami, Fla, and Irene Eubanks of Gainesvile, Fla.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Mr. Rivers’ memory may be made to Sandhill United Methodist Church, c/o Bill Cameron, 702 W. Liberty Street, McRae, Ga. 31055.

Charles Julian Towns
Services for Charles Julian Towns of Savannah were held at noon Monday, July 14, at the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with interment in the Telfair Memorial Gardens.

Towns, 67, of Savannah died Friday, July 11, 2003. A native of Telfair County he had lived in Savannah for 50 years. He was the son of the late John Osborne and Jessie Powell Towns.
He was a member of Dodge’s Chapel Methodist Church and was a member of the First Volunteer Regiment of Georgia. After two years of service in the U.S. Army he gave more than 40 years of service to Quality Containers before retiring. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his sister, Jessie Odessa Towns of Savannah and aunt Lessie Towns of McRae.

Whitten, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003.He was the son of the late T J Whitten and Rose Bost Whitten.
A native of Bibb county, he was a member of Helena Baptist Church, a retired employee of CSX Railroad and a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors included his son, Ted R Whitten of Waycross; brother, William Roy Whitten of Macon and two grandsons.

Yawn, 83, died Sunday, July 13, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Sallie Rawlins Yawn. A native and lifelong resident of Telfair county, she was a member of Rockwell Baptist Church and was employed with McRae Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include a sister, Effie Conner of Klamath Falls, Ore.; Nephew, Chester Stanley of Milan; nieces, Sanja Bryant of Klamath Falls, Ore. and Kattisue Herrington of Dublin.

Thelma Hilliard Bowen
Services for Thelma Hilliard Bowen of Rhine were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 3, in Rhine Baptist Church with interment in Bay Springs Cemetery in Rhine.

Bowen, 82, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003. A native of Dodge County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Hilliard and Nina Cook Hilliard and widow of Rollo Bowen. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Bowen and sister, Lavada H. Stuckey.
She was a member of Rhine Baptist Church and a retired lunchroom manager for Rhine Elementary School.
Survivors included her brother, Jess Williard Hilliard of Davisboro and granddaughter, Laurel Bowen Huff of Macon.

Dan Roger Brue

Brue, 66, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003. A native of Telfair County, he was the son of the late Daniel C. Brue and Sallie Lou Ray Brue. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors included his wife, Mildred Brue of Hazlehurst; daughters, Lisa Brue of Bainbridge and Sherri West of Hazlehurst; sons, Captain Dan Roger Brue II of the U.S. Army, Jeffery W. Brue of Ocklocknee, Robert Kevin Brue and Jason Brue, both of Hazlehurst and Eric Brue of Utah; brothers, W.C. Brue of Lumber City and Bill Brue of Fayetteville; and 14 grandchildren.

Ruby Louise Jones Burnam
Services for Ruby Louise Jones Burnam of Douglas were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, in the chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with interment at 4 p.m. in the Old Fair Haven Cemetery near Rhine.
Burnam, 78, died Monday, June 7, 2003. A native of Dodge County, she had lived most of her life in the Douglas area. She was the daughter of the late Albert Jones and the late Carrie Mae Yancey Jones and was the widow of Felton Osborn Burnam. She was preceded in death by her children, Johnnie Mae Burnam, Richard Bryan Burnam and Ronald David Burnam. She was a member of the Parkview Calvary Holiness Church in Douglas.
Survivors included her daughters, Ruby Jean Carver and Faye Marks, both of Broxton, Penny Burnam of Douglas and Tenise Burnam of Waycross; sons, Rev. Charles Burnam of Douglas and Larry Burnam of Willacoochee; sister, Wynona Rogers of Warner Robins; brothers, Joe Jones of Fargo, Frank Jones and Leroy Jones, both of Rhine and Ray Jones of Columbus; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
