Georgia, U.S., Marriage Records From Select Counties, 1828-1978

Gary D. Potts
Gary Dean Potts, 44, of Danielsville, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Potts was born January 6, 1956, in Orlando, Fla. He was a son of Patsy Potts Mooren, Winter Garden, Fla., and the late Summie Potts.
Mr. Potts was employed as a welder and was of the Baptist denomination.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 5, in the chapel of Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Mark Palmer officiating. Burial was in the Thyatira Church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Cody Alexander Potts, Danielsville; three sisters, Patti Burke, Buford, and Michelle Baucom and Pam Potts, both of Auburn; one brother, Terry Potts, Winder; and several nieces and nephews.
Jackson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charles W. Nations
Charles Waco Nations, 92, of Commerce, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Nations was born August 8, 1907, in Hart County. He was a son of the late John and Lula Cantrell Nations.
Mr. Nations was a retired farmer and a member of Stonepile Baptist Church, Clarkesville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Nations.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 1, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. David Strickland officiating. Burial was in the Stonepile Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include five sons, Bobby Nations, Charles Nations, James Nations, Kenneth Nations and Ray Nations, all of Commerce; two daughters, Jeanette Ballanger, Cannon, and Evelyn Nicholson, Commerce; one brother, Roy Nations, Hull; two sisters, Omie Elrod, Hull, and Mattie Lord, Commerce; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marshall Edwards
Marshall Edwards, 83, of Commerce, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
Mr. Edwards was born December 14, 1916, in Hinds County, Miss. He was a son of the late Cara Belle Edwards Fleming.
Mr. Edwards was retired from Harmony Grove Mill and was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Tucker Edwards; one son, Frank Edwards, Hull; one daughter, Kaye Haynes, Hull; four brothers, David Carthern, Commerce, Roger Carthern, Jefferson, A.R. Fleming, Smith Grove, Ky., and Ralph Fleming, Elberton; one sister, Mary Ann Rucker, Dewy Rose; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Falcon's Children's Home, P.O. Box 39, Falcon, NC 28342.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burl K. Thomas Sr.
Burl K. "B.K." Thomas Sr., 76, of Royston, formerly of Elberton, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000.
A native of Franklin County, Mr. Thomas was a son of the late Ace and Janie Keller Thomas.
He was a retired truck driver and was a member of Dove Creek Baptist Church, Elberton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 1, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Paul Creason officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Janie Duckett Duccatt, Hull; two sons, B.K. Thomas Jr., Lawrenceville, and Charlie Thomas, Athens; three sisters, Docia Strickland, Royston, Jimmie Martin, Carnesville, and Joan Gray, Anderson, S.C.; three brothers, Everage Thomas and the Rev. Robert Thomas, both of Toccoa, and William Thomas, Texas; and one granddaughter.
Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary R. Lawrence
Mrs. Mary Rosalee Segars Lawrence, 87, of Hartwell, died Sunday, April 2, 2000.
A native of Banks County, Mrs. Lawrence was a daughter of the late John and Amanda Lawrence Segars.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Watson Lawrence, and a daughter, Viola Clark.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4, at Strickland Funeral Home, Hartwell, with the Revs. Randy Smith and Mike Bearden officiating. Burial was in Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
Survivors include six daughters, Kathleen Cantrell, Inez Holland and Betty Jo Carruth, all of Hartwell, and Evelyn Gaines, Annie Ruth Burrell and Faye Turner, all of Elberton; six sons, John Lawrence, Madison County, Billy Lawrence, Lavonia, and George Lawrence, Charles Lawrence, Eugene Lawrence and Jimmy Lawrence, all of Hartwell; two brothers, George Segars, Hartwell, and John R. Segars, Elberton; 32 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Strickland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ernest D. McCannon
Ernest D. "Billy" McCannon, 71, of Athens, died Thursday, March 30, 2000.
A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. McCannon was a son of the late Tommy and Ida Mae Payne McCannon.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years and retired from the University of Georgia in 1982. Mr. McCannon was of the Baptist denomination and was a member of the Mount Vernon Lodge No. 22.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and J.W. McCannon, and two sisters, Virginia Casper and Betty Joe Jones.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 2, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Jack Segars officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Daryl Jackson, Wayne Casper, Rod Wright, Jo Wright, Roger Sumlin, Danny Hogg, Eugene Edes and Stanley Payne served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Jackson McCannon; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Paul Minish, Danielsville; granddaughter and husband, Christy and Larry Gaddis, Danielsville; grandson and wife, William "Bill" and Alicia Nicholson, Watkinsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edwards Chapel Baptist Church Renovation Fund, 105 Timothy Road, Athens, GA 30606.
Bridges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Johnny W. Echols
Johnny William Echols, 42, of Lexington, died Thursday, March 30, 2000.
Mr. Echols was a son of Marcus and Ella Johnson Echols.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 2, at Waggoners Grove Baptist Church, Colbert, with Pastor Roy L. Thomas Sr. officiating. Burial was in Hitchcock Cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Betty Jean Echols; two daughters, Janesia M. Cox and Maria L. Carter, both of Lexington; one son, John Echols, Comer; and one sister, Catherine Johnson, Colbert.
Jones Lexington Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Annette C. Rainwater
Mrs. Annette Cannon Rainwater, 65, of Eatonton, died Sunday, April 2, 2000.
A native of Greene County, Mrs. Rainwater was a daughter of the late Harold Lamb and Evelyn Davis Cannon.
She was involved in childcare for 35 years and owned and operated Rainwater's Playschool Day Care, Greensboro, for 25 years.
Mrs. Rainwater was a graduate of Union Point High School and was a member of Greensboro First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Alexander Rainwater, and a son, Louis Rainwater.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 5, in the chapel of McCommons Funeral Home, Greensboro, with the Revs. Stan Patterson and Dean Cason officiating. Burial was in the Greensboro City Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Purdy, Greensboro, and Nancy Rainwater, Eatonton; one son, Bob Rainwater, Greensboro; three sisters, Ruth Matthews, Dallas, Millie Croft, Winter Haven, Fla., and Mary Jordan, Sasser; two brothers, Harry Cannon, Comer, and James Cannon, Missouri City, Texas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Oconee, 811 N. Cobb Street, Milledgeville, GA 31061, or to the American Cancer Society Local Chapter, 1060 Gaines School Road, Athens, GA 30605.

Howard J. Turner
Howard James Turner, 53, of Commerce, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Turner was born December 14, 1946, in Commerce. He was a son of Mamie Lou Beck Turner, Commerce, and the late Quilla Turner.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 1, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Harold Crawford officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mr. Turner is survived by one son, Mark Turner, Commerce; one brother, Jerry Turner, Commerce; one sister, Lillie Martin, Cleveland; and two grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen S. Hardy
Mrs. Kathleen Stockton Hardy, 72, of Hollywood, Fla., formerly of Athens, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000.
A native of Commerce, Mrs. Hardy was a daughter of the late William M. and Alice Mae Bell Standridge Stockton.
She was a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Lee Hardy Sr.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 1, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home, Athens, with Dr. John Davidson officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include one daughter, Delores Hardy Cheney, Hollywood, Fla.; one son, Robert E. Lee Hardy Jr., Hollywood, Fla.; two sisters, Nellie Osborne, Athens, and Grace Steiger, Cincinnati, Ohio; three brothers, W.C. Stockton, Bill Stockton and Grady Stockton, all of Atlanta; and four grandchildren.
Bernstein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
