JEFFERSON - Miss Betty Ann Gurley, 48, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center. A native of Baxley, she was born April 17, 1951, to Paul Gurley and the late Ann Gurley. Miss Gurley was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 17, at Jackson Funeral Home Chapel, Jefferson, with Jimmy Cruce and Joe Massey officiating. Burial was at Arcade Cemetery, Arcade.
Survivors include sisters Mary Canup, Winder, and Johnnie Mae Gurley, Jefferson; brothers Edward and Billy Gurley, both of Jefferson; Bobby Gaines and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being made to the American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, Athens, Ga. 30601.

MRS. AKINS

CONYERS - Mrs. Josephine Akins, 80, died Thursday, April 13, 2000.
A native of Jefferson, Mrs. Akins was born July 4, 1919.
She had worked with Calaway Mills for many years and was retired from Sweetheart Plastics. Mrs. Akins was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, Covington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Edward Akins.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 16, at Solid Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Franklin, James Hall and William Atha officiating. Burial was in Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, Conyers.
Survivors include one son, Henry Edward Akins, Dayton Beach, Fla.; four daughters, Patty Hudson, Renee Johnson and Sara Gresham, all of Conyers, and Betty Williams, Statesboro; two brothers, Joseph Wright, Lawrenceville, and B.L. Wright, Jefferson; three sisters, Callie Gaines and Mae Seabolt, both of Jefferson, and Margaret Lynn, Piedmont, Ala.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

MR. PIRKLE
Retired Dairyman
HOSCHTON - Jack Usry Pirkle, 84, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Emory Eastside Medical Center, Snellville.
Mr. Pirkle was born February 27, 1916, in Jackson County. He was a son of the late Russell Lee and Ada Belle Usry Pirkle.
Mr. Pirkle was a retired dairyman and farmer. He lived in the Hoschton area all his life and was a member of Hoschton United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell L. Pirkle Jr., Hinesville.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lida Westbrook Pirkle; two daughters, Frances Benson, Lawrenceville, and daughter and son-in-law, Ada and Jack Spruill, Hoschton; four brothers, Quentin Pirkle, Atlanta; Thad Pirkle and Joshua Pirkle, both of Hoschton; Bishop Pirkle, Monroe; one grandson, Robert Spruill, Hoschton; three granddaughters, Carol and Abby Spruill, both of Hoschton; and Jaci Benson, Alpharetta; and one great-granddaughter, Jordan Benson, Alpharetta.
Memorial services were held Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Hoschton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darrell McGinnis and Dr. Matt McGowan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hoschton United Methodist Church, Hoschton.
MRS. ELROD

WATKINSVILLE Mrs. Katie Lou Cantrell Elrod, 72, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at her residence. She was born February 29, 1928, in Gwinnett County to the late Quillion and Hassie Nations Cantrell.
Mrs. Elrod was preceded in death by her husband, the late Marvin Odell Elrod. She was retired from Commerce Poultry and was a member of Freedom Church of God.
Funeral services were held April 18 at Freedom Church of God with the Revs. Tim Garrett, Curtis Hammond and Lamar Hansard officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Randy Elrod, Danielsville, and Ronald Elrod and Stevie Elrod, both of Commerce; five daughters, Janet Andrews, Colbert, Angie Bradshaw and Vickie Cole, both of Watkinsville, Sherry Godfrey, Crawford, and Gayle Green, Commerce; one brother, Vester Cantrell, Suwannee; one sister, Katherine Walker, Buford; 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

COMMERCE - Kenneth Sam Bell, 52, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at VA Regional Hospital.
Mr. Bell was born December 10, 1947, a son of Clemmie Andrews Bell, Commerce, and the late Jessie L. Bell.
He was self-employed in lawn service.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 15, at Charity Baptist Church with Ministers V. Howington, B. Burrell and J. Stowe officiating. Burial was in the Indian Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Carnesville.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda A. Bell; two brothers, C.D. Bell and James Bell, both of Commerce; and five sisters, Grace Busha, Carnesville, Gladys Catalano, Homer, Louise Pruitt and Brenda Segars, both of Commerce, and Agnes Young, Ila.

MR. MCCLURE

COMMERCE - Sam McClure, 80, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at BJC Medical Center. He was born December 29, 1919, in Stephens County to the late John and Lizzie Rothell McClure.
Mr. McClure was an electrician, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Funeral services were held April 19 at the Little-Ward Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Warren Huddleston and Vaughn Howington officiating. Burial was at Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Wills McClure, Commerce; one son, Samuel Edwin McClure, Jefferson; four daughters, Betty Ayers, Commerce, Nancy Bond, Conyers, Gloria Flynn, Norwich, England, and Virginia Pigg, Malabar, Fla.; and one brother, Dan McClure, Commerce.

WINDER - Mrs. Viola Marie Folsom, 83, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000.
A native of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Folsom was a daughter of the late George and Martha Galic.
She was a homemaker and of the Catholic faith. Mrs. Folsom was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Folsom.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 15, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Winder.
Survivors include one daughter, Carole Ellis, Winder; grandchildren, Teresa and Michael Clark, Cincinnati, Ohio, Lisa Woytsek and Charles Paul II and Wendy Stern, all of Winder, and Linda and Timothy Armstrong, Jefferson; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Gary and Nicole Clark, all of Cincinnati, Christina and Teresa Woytsek, both of Auburn, and Charles Paul Stern III, Winder.

MRS. MILUCCI

WYTHEVILLE, VA. Mrs. Donna V. Milucci died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, after an extended illness. She was born July 9, 1940, in Annawalt, Penn., to Helen Kittle, West Virginia, and the late Charles Lewis Kittle.
Memorial services were held April 8 at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two daughters Barbara Hayes, Hoschton, and Sharon Rodriguez, Winder; and one son, Vincent Milucci, Winder; and three sisters and three brothers, of West Virginia.

GILLSVILLE - Louise Cheek, 68, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following an extended illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Hall County, she was employed with Mount Vernon Mills and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Gillsville.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Cheek Jr., Gillsville; five sons, Richard and Ray Cheek, both of Gainesville, Terry and Scott Cheek, both of Gillsville, and Jimmy Cheek, Talmo; three daughters, Deborah Ball, Columbus, Gail Martin, Gillsville, and Lynn Cheek Buffington, Gainesville; five sisters, Margaret Parks, Clermont, Betty Holland, Forest Park, Omie Lee Tanner, Villa Ricca, and Bonnel Gowan and Iris Young, both of Gainesville; one brother, Junior Smith, Rome; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Darryl Womack and Earl Pirkle officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

NICHOLSON - Miss Manira Christine Wardlaw, 90, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at BJC Nursing Home.
A native of Jackson County, she was born November 11, 1909, and was the daughter of the late Mary Caroline Rice Wardlaw and Rufus Franklin Wardlaw. She was a retired registered nurse and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Willie Hanley, Nicholson, and Mary Lee Ridgeway, Winder.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Revs. Kenneth Dillard and Robert Passmore officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
