MR. COTTON

HOMER - Jules Andrew Cotton, 65, formerly of Winter Haven, Fla., died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at his daughter's residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Cotton was born June 3, 1934, in Banks County. He was a son of the late George and Omie Baugh Cotton.
Mr. Cotton was a U.S. Army and U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from Ryder Truck Rental, with 15 1/2 years of service.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Revs. Jeff Appling and Don Blalock officiating. Burial will be in Banks County Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Massey, Homer, Gena Carlan, Lula, and Sherry Cotton, Winter Haven, Fla.; six sisters, Gennette Buffington, Carnesville, Avinell Carlan, Mary Lou Cotton, Frances Vaughn and Catherine Shubert, all of Homer, and Shirley Blalock, Commerce; two brothers, Billy Cotton, Homer, and W.J. "Dub" Cotton, Cornelia; three grandchildren, Justin A. Cotton and Erika B. Carlan, both of Lula, and Kelsey L. Massey, Homer.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

MR. WILLIAMS

AUBURN - William B. "Bill" Williams Sr., 61, died Saturday, April 8, 2000.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 11, in Wages Oak Lawn Chapel with the Revs. Leonard Williams, Anthony Fuller and Greg Banks officiating. Burial was in Gwinnett Memorial Park.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Myrtle Williams, Lawrenceville; children, Shelia Williams, Jacksonville, Ala., Donna and Greg Banks, Auburn, Billy Williams, Lawrenceville, Sherry and Todd Puckett, Lawrenceville, Mary and David Carter, Dallas, Truman and Mary Williams, Jefferson, Tony and Tina Williams, Dacula, Thomas and Cinda Williams, Monroe, Terry and Karen Williams, Lawrenceville, and Gary Williams, Lawrenceville; five brothers, Ed Williams, Ider, Ala., Joe Williams, Bridgeport, Ala., Douglas Truman Williams and Kenneth Williams, both of Alto, and James Williams, Decatur, Ala.; one sister, Betty Robinson, Santa Fe Springs, Texas; 14 grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Tom M. Wages Funeral Service Inc., Lawrenceville, was in charge of arrangements.

MR. SHERIDAN
World War II Veteran
LULA - Odos Sheridan, 72, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Banks county on April 23, 1927, to the late William and Zadie Westmoreland Sheridan, he was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills in Alto and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Sheridan. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.
Survivors include: wife, Wilma Sue Jordan Sheridan, Lula; daughters and sons-in-law Mavis and Gene Nichols and Loretta and Paul Cragg, all of Lula, and Janie and Charlie Wilkes, Ila; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Mary Sheridan, Alto, and Elwin and Gail Sheridan, Gainesville; one sister, Betty Whitlock, Gillsville; 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 18, at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Wilson, Shane Wilson, and Billy Autry officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
McGahee-Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Douglas B. Benton
Douglas Bruce Benton, 38, of Colbert, died Monday, June 5, 2000.
A native of Lansing, Mich., Mr. Benton was a son of Carol Lynne Weaver Benton, Lansing, Mich., and the late Bruce Welcome Benton.
He had been a resident of the Colbert area for 23 years and worked as a welder.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 27, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include three sons, Douglas Bruce Benton Jr., Jacob Evan Benton and Bailey Michael Benton, all of Danielsville; and one brother, Scott Benton, Lansing, Mich.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Ellijay Seagraves
Ellijay "Curley" Seagraves, 77, of Athens, died Thursday, June 22, 2000.
A native of Madison County, Mr. Seagraves was a son of the late Luther F. and Nellie Gunnells Seagraves.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and was retired from Chicopee Manufacturing Co., with 32 years of service.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24, in Evergreen memorial Park with the Rev. Elmer Butler officiating. Ray Moore, Randall Couch, Ronnie Morrison, Jason Booth, Clint Booth and Chad Fowler served as pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Seagraves; one daughter, Kathy Couch, Lilburn; four sisters, Grace Irwin and Jessie Seagraves, both of California, Elizabeth Grant, Gainesville, and Lucy Moore, Athens; two granddaughters and nieces and nephews.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, was in charge of arrangements.

Minnette Carithers
Mrs. Minnette Carithers, 86, of Commerce, died Thursday, June 22, 2000.
Mrs. Carithers was a daughter of the late Andrew and Alice Mathis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O'Dell John Carithers, and a daughter, Mary Anna Reed.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 28, at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. W.R. Brown, Leroy Doe, W.F. Pattman and Ken Sims officiating.
Mrs. Carithers is survived by a son, Robert Louis Carithers, Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Alice Pittman and Betty Mathis, both of Commerce; and six grandchildren.
Forestglen Mortuary Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Sarah C. Stowe
Mrs. Sarah C. Stowe, 82, of Commerce, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mrs. Stowe was born April 13, 1918, in Commerce. She was a daughter of the late Charles Obidiah and Marie Steele Crocker.
Mrs. Stowe had worked as a bookkeeper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Stowe.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with Robert Flippo and Terry Ault officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Mrs. Stowe is survived by one brother, Gene S. Crocker, Charlotte, N.C.; sister-in-law, Lois D. Crocker, Macon; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha B. White
Mrs. Bertha Bowen White, 94, Cumming, formerly of Gainesville, died Sunday, November 5, 2000, at Baptist North Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. White was born January 31, 1906, to M.W. and Lillie Bowen in Gainesville.
After graduating from Brenau in 1927, she taught high school for 13 years in Comer, Oakwood, Grayson and Dearing.
While living in Gwinnett County with her late husband, Glenn R. Roberts, an attorney and Gwinnett legislator, she began welfare work and eventually became the director of County Welfare in Gwinnett and Habersham counties.
While living in New York, Mrs. White earned her master's in social work from Columbia University. Upon her return to Georgia, she worked as a child welfare consultant in the Athens and Gainesville districts until she moved to Atlanta in 1954 to become senior consultant on Adoptions for Georgia. Mrs. White was later promoted to chief of Child Welfare for Georgia, holding that position until her retirement in 1967.
After returning to Gainesville, she married the late C.O. White and continued her activities at the First Baptist Church, where she taught the Fidelis Sunday School class for 27 years and served as W.M.U. president.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn R. Roberts, and her second husband, Charles Otto White, and two brothers, Ray F. Bowen and Earnest E. Bowen.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 8, at the First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Fields and Dr. Bill Coates officiating. Burial was in Alta Vista Cemetery, Gainesville.
Mrs. White is survived by one sister, Edna Bowen Moore, Gainesville; and three nieces, Martha Bowen Boguski, Barbara Moore Dyer and Faye Moore Taylor.
Hillside Funeral Home, Gainesville, was in charge of arrangements.

Gilbert B. Brown
Gilbert Boley Brown, 90, of Commerce, died Sunday, October 29, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Brown was born November 1, 1909, a son of the late Claude and Nina Lord Brown.
He was a machinist. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Clisby Lord Brown.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 31, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in the Beaverdam Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Brown is survived by one son, Travis Brown, Commerce; three brothers, Harold Brown, John Brown and Truitt Brown, all of Commerce; and two grandchildren, Bressa Brown and Brad Brown.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clara S. Thomas
Mrs. Clara S. Purcell Thomas, 84, of Commerce, died Sunday, November 5, 2000, at BJC Nursing Home, Commerce.
Mrs. Thomas was born April 1, 1916, in Banks County, a daughter of the late William Morgan and Ellie Duncan Purcell.
She was a member of Hudson River Baptist Church. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Hoke Thomas.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 7, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Troy Herbert, Henry Webb and Ronnie Moon officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by two sons, Billy Dean Thomas, Gainesville, and Joe Thomas, Commerce; two daughters, Lois Bridges and Mary Fricks, both of Commerce; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
