MR. SHIRLEY
U.S. Navy veteran
HOMER - Hugh David Shirley, 41, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, following a sudden illness.
Mr. Shirley was born November 20, 1958, in Gwinnett County. He was a son of Hugh Dorsey and Iris Hughes Shirley, Buford.
Mr. Shirley was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from 1976 to 1992, and was employed as a truck driver with B.F.I. He was a member of Jefferson Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 4, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Kevin Whitman officiating. Burial was in the New Prospect Methodist Church cemetery, Buford.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Susan Henderson Shirley; four sons, Adam Shirley, Andrew Shirley, Alex Shirley and Avery Shirley, all of Homer; two daughters, Stephanie Bean, Colquitt, and Amber Shirley, Homer; one sister, Heidi Register, Buford; one brother, Jeff Shirley, Conyers; grandparents, Linnie Shirley and Ruby Hughes, both of Buford; and two nieces, Hope Anderson and Heather Register.
Evans Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MISS WRIGHT
Cornelia UMC member
CORNELIA - Miss Thelma Wright, 83, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born in Arkansas, Miss Wright lived most of her life in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late Alexander and Lena Crumley Wright.
Miss Wright was retired from Carwood Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Cornelia First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 3, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Revs. Marcus Martin and Robert L. Ramsey officiating. Burial was in the Enon Baptist Church cemetery.
Miss Wright is survived by a number of cousins.

MRS. MOORE
Homemaker
MT. AIRY - Mrs. Geneva Moore, 78, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at her residence following a brief illness.
Born in Tennessee, Mrs. Moore spent most of her life in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late William Claude and Mae Nelms Broyles.
Mrs. Moore was a homemaker and raised foster children. She was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Prince Hodgson Moore.
Graveside services were held Thursday, February 3, in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Billy Burrell officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Moore, Carnesville, and Kenneth Moore, Mt. Airy; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hazel Creek Baptist Church, Hazel Creek Road, Mt. Airy, GA 30563.
McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. PREIST
Bethel Christian Church member
CALHOUN - Mrs. Pluma Chastain Preist, 90, died Friday, January 28, 2000, at Gordon Hospital following several months of declining health.
Mrs. Preist was born August 7, 1909, in Pickens County. She was a daughter of the late Homer and Lucinda Jackson Chastain.
Mrs. Preist was a member of Bethel Christian Church, Ludville, and before moving to Calhoun, had resided in the Ryo Community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Preist, in 1971.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 30, in the Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, Calhoun, with the Revs. Jether Cochran and Glenn Simms officiating. Burial was in Gordon Memorial Gardens. Jamie Boling, Mac Romine, Lamar Carver, Mike Boswell, Euclid Batista, Jim Carrier, Zachary Carrier and Bill Jordan served as pallbearers.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Jerry Allen, Gillsville, and Barbara and Jimi Hall, Calhoun; one sister, Eunice Romine, Jasper; four grandchildren, Patricia Boswell, Ranger, Cindy Long, Kennesaw, Regina Batista, Marietta, and Aletia Carrier, Calhoun; and four great-grandchildren.
Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. COKER
U.S. Army veteran
HOMER - Oliver Glen Coker, 70, died early Monday, November 13, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Coker was born March 6, 1930, in Banks County to the late Earl Coker and Lula Vaughn Coker.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was an employed LP Gas driver. Mr. Coker was a member of Nails Creek Baptist Church.
He was married to the late Kathleen Kitchens Coker.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 15, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce. Burial was in the Gordon Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Coker is survived by two sons, Wayne Earl, Ohio, and Gregory Michael, Homer; one brother, Odell Coker, Toccoa; one sister, Betty Manley, Macon; and two grandchildren.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MR. IVIE
Established Ivie Funeral Home
COMMERCE - John Kelly Ivie, 78, died Saturday, November 11, 2000, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.
Mr. Ivie was born January 1, 1922, in Cornelia, Habersham County. He was a son of the late Paul and Malinda Ivie.
Mr. Ivie graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater as part of the Airsea Rescue Unit.
Mr. Ivie moved from Cornelia to Commerce in 1953 and was employed by Sanders Funeral Home until 1963, at which time he purchased and established Ivie Funeral Home.
He was a member of the Lion's Club of Commerce and a member of the Hudson Masonic Lodge #294 F.A.M. for over 50 years. Mr. Ivie served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Commerce and was retired from the Commerce Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Commerce Board of Education and had been a Commerce City Councilman for many years.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 13, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Don Paulson, Kent Cranford and Henry Webb officiating. Burial was in Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Grace Black Ivie, Commerce; daughters, Kathy Marshbank, Greenville, S.C., Kay Buechler, Acworth, and Kelly Woodham, Gainesville, and sons-in-law; sister, Mrs. Frank Haslett, Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, John Buechler, Joy Epps and Bob Whitehead; and several nieces and nephews.
Ivie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. MEISTER
Habersham County native
BALDWIN - Mrs. Verdina V. Meister, 72, died Tuesday, November 14, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Meister was born June 1, 1928, in Habersham County. She was a daughter of the late Gordon and Vesta Gibbs Kimsey.
Mrs. Meister was the owner and operator of J.C.'s Bait and Tackle Shop, Baldwin. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Meister was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Meister, and a daughter, Helen Meister.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 16, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Ken Coomer, Larry Barnes and Hoyt Skelton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, David Meister, Alto; two granddaughters reared in the home, Lisa Bohannon, Clarkesville, and Amy Goldsmith, Baldwin; one brother, Elbert Kimsey, Baldwin; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family was to have received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

MR. CASH
Hillside Baptist member
CORNELIA - Mrs. Zelma Brady Cash, 83, died Saturday, November 11, 2000, at a private nursing home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Cash was born November 7, 1917, in Banks County. She was a daughter of the late Asa and Bessie Carpenter Brady.
Mrs. Cash was retired from Belk's Department Store as a sales person in the children's department, with 21 years of service. She was a member of Hillside Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and also taught Children's Church.
Mrs. Cash was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Cash.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 14, at Hillside Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Harris and Billy Burrell officiating. Burial was in the Damascus Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Marshall Cash, Demorest, and Lynn Cash, Clayton; one sister, Vera Stowe, Cornelia; one brother, O.H. Brady, Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements.

MRS. STRICKLAND
Maysville UMC member
JEFFERSON - Mrs. Nellie Grace Strickland, 79, died Tuesday, November 7, 2000, at Athens Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Strickland was born May 31, 1921, in Hall County. She was a daughter of the late Harry Wright and Clara Belle Dills Craig.
Mrs. Strickland was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Maysville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurston Strickland, and a daughter, Virginia Strickland.
Funeral services were held November 10, at Bethany United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dennis Kesler and Hulon Hill officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. Robbie Fields, Cassidy Kesler, Phillip Kesler, Rodney Kesler, Andy Strickland, Carey Strickland and John Strickland served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of Unity Lodge #36.
Mrs. Strickland is survived by two sons, Doyle Strickland, Homer, and Dugar Strickland, Jefferson; two brothers, Edgar Craig, Commerce, and Herman Craig, Homer; one sister, Mazie Venable, Jefferson; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, was in charge of arrangements.
