Fannie Bray
Fannie Ophelia Bray, 85, died Thursday, January 31, 2002, at her residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Appling County native had lived in Rincon for many years, moving to Glennville, Georgia, five years ago. She was retired from Union Camp in Savannah, Georgia; a homemaker; and a member of Rincon Church of God.
She is survived by Ben Smith, Bobbie Smith, and Scottie Smith, all of Glennville; Adela Lupita Maria and Jennifer Martinez of Glennville; Colvert Carter, Curtis Carter, Reba Carter, and Joyce Pearce, all of Baxley, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2002, at Ten Mile Church Cemetery in Appling County, with the Rev. Wayne Merrett officiating.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Marvin Burnside
Marvin Eugene Burnside, 66, died Thursday, January 31, 2002, at his residence. The Ohio native had lived in California and New Mexico for many years, moving to Reidsville, Georgia, one year ago. He retired from Evergreen Air Line in 1999 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by a son, Ken Burnside of Reidsville; two daughters, Patricia Hales and Susan Graunstadt, both of California; three sisters; two brothers; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2, in Glennville City Cemetery, with the Rev. Edward Brannen officiating.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

George Ford
Coach George Edward Ford, 76, a former wrestling, football, and golf coach at McEachern High School, in addition to serving for more than 22 years on the Powder Springs City Council, died Saturday, February 2, 2002, of complications from a recent stroke and kidney disease.
The City of Powder Springs is in the process of turning the former Powder Springs Elementary School into a community center. The center will be named in Ford's honor because of his influence in the city.
Mr. Ford was a native of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, and attended The University of Georgia on a football scholarship. He played in both the Sugar and Orange Bowls as a member of the Bulldogs before injuries derailed his career.
After graduating from Georgia, Ford coached at several high schools around the state, including Glennville High School from 1951 to 1955, before landing at McEachern High School in 1961.
Coach Ford also served in General George Patton's Third Army in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 294 in Powder Springs and other service organizations. He was inducted into the Lowell, Massachusetts, Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
He is survived by one son, John C. Ford of Atlanta; one daughter, Pamela Terrell of Nashua, New Hampshire; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, at First Baptist Church of Powder Springs, with the Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Athens.

Rosalyn Beasley

Rosalyn Beasley, 84, died Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Atlanta and Tampa, Florida, for many years, moving to Savannah three years ago. She was retired from CDC in Atlanta as a Management Specialist. She was a member of the Episcopal Church in Atlanta.
She is survived by a sister, Betty Vanhorn of Savannah; a brother and sister-in-law, Nat and Anna Beasley of Millen; two nieces, Carole Kindeull of Florence, Kentucky, and Lane (J. C.) Cooper of Claxton; two nephews, George M. (Carol) Beasley of Maryland and Robert (Karen) Beasley of Voluntown, Connecticut; a goddaughter, Rosalyn Puckett of Macon; three great-nieces; two great-nephews; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 2, at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with interment in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Reidsville United Methodist Church, Brazell Street, Reidsville, Georgia 30453, or charity of donor's choice.

Mary Nell Burroughs

Mary Nell Coats Burroughs, 85, died Monday, February 6, 2006, at Hospice House. Born in Tattnall County, she had lived in Savannah since 1940, including the past 14 years at Savannah Square Retirement Community. She was a member of Ardsley Park Baptist Church where she was a member of the Lydian Sunday School Class. She was the former office manager for Burroughs Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc., and was a volunteer at Candler Hospital Auxiliary for 25 years. She was an avid flower gardener and seamstress, and was very artistic. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, and needlepoint. She was preceded in death by her parents, William B. and Janie Ruth Durrence Coats; her husband, Aaron C. "Clyde" Burroughs, Sr.; and a sister, Etwinda Coats Kirkland.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Aaron C., Jr., "Ron" and Mary Burroughs and William S. "Bill" Burroughs, all of Savannah; a grandson, Aaron Brent Burroughs, USMC, Camp Pendleton, California; a sister, Lou Beth Williams of Augusta; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, at Glennville City Cemetery, officiated by her nephew, the Rev. Rod Kirkland of Pineview Baptist Church.

J. Roger Kennedy

J. Roger Kennedy, 83, died Thursday, February 2, 2006, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all his life. He was a U. S. Navy World War II veteran, serving in the Atlantic Theater, Invasion of Normandy, and the Murmansk Run to Russia. He retired from Civil Service, working with the Post Engineers at Ft. Stewart. He was a member of Rising Sun Lodge #32, VFW Post #7764, Reidsville Grand Rascals, and the Liars Table at Joe's Kountry Kettle. He was also a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wynette Kennedy-Portman, and a brother, Jack Kennedy.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret M. Kennedy of Reidsville; two sons and daughter-in-law, J. Roger, Jr., and Milly Kennedy and H. Mitchell Kennedy, all of Reidsville; three grandchildren: James R. Kennedy III of Reidsville and Kristy Lafollette and Michelle Kennedy of Savannah; two great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 5, at Reidsville United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Doug Walker, the Rev. David Hudson, the Rev. Sterling Bargeron, and Jackie Trim. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Reidsville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 218, Reidsville, Georgia 30453.
Active pallbearers were Aldrick Hill, Ricky Hodges, Billy Snell, Dennis Durrence, Milton Kennedy, and Lamar Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Reidsville Grand Rascals, Liars Table at Joe's Kountry Kettle, Rufus Collins, Deril Waters, Smitty Snell, Joel Smith, Winton Smith, Homer Durrence, William Kennedy, Louie Smith, Tietgen Smith, Donald Kennedy, Kenneth Kennedy, Phillip Smith, and Leland McCall.

Callie B. McKelvey

Callie B. McKelvey, 60, died Saturday, February 4, 2006, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Florida native had lived in Reidsville for the past 20 years, and was a retired sales clerk for Timesaver.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond McKelvey of Reidsville; a daughter, Kathy Taylor of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a son, Scott A. Phillips of Charleston, South Carolina; three sisters: Rene Smiley and June Silor, both of Wewahitchka, Florida, and Virginia Richardson of Blountstown, Florida; five brothers: Virgil Smiley, J. M. Smiley, Darian Smiley, Ronald Smiley, and Donald Smiley, all of Wewahitchka, Florida; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville chapel. Burial was private.

Milton J. "Bill" Medlock

Milton J. "Bill" Medlock, 84, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Chatham County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was retired from farming and the appliance repair business. He was a member of Glennville First Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Vietta S. Medlock of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law, Milton B. "Sonny" and Beverly Medlock and David and Carol Medlock, all of Glennville; grandchildren: Milton, Jr. "Kip," Bridgette, Chris, and Vicki Medlock; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, February 3, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Knight officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy J. Durrence, Martin O'Donnell, Robert Bowen, Adair Branch, Rob Durrence, and Jerry Branch.

Anda Odom

Anda Geiger Odom, 60, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all her life. She was retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart, associated with Tattnall County Relay For Life, and a member of Glennville First Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Barry Odom of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn and Vicki Odom and Shane and Stephanie Odom, all of Glennville; her mother, Penny Merle Geiger of Glennville; brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Glenda Geiger of Glennville; grandchildren: Brad, Stephen, Molly, and Ben Odom; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 3, at Glennville First Christian Church, with the Rev. Jack Hudson officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Howard, Cale Blocker, Lee Durrence, Joe Odom, Lou Durrence, Dennis Odom, and Jeff Odom.

Wardell A. Rawls

Wardell A. Rawls, 21, died February 2, 2006, in Greenville Memorial Hospital. He lived his entire life in Tattnall County. He was educated in the Tattnall County public school system, and was a graduate of Tattnall County High School. He accepted Christ at an early age. His dream was to be a minister of the Gospel.
He is survived by his parents, Wardell Rawls, Sr., and Diane Rawls, both of Collins; seven brothers: Geraine Anthony of Bridgeport, Connecticut; Nickalus Rawls of San Diego, California; Christopher Rawls of Vidalia; Darien Beaufort, Trey Rawls, and Boindi Raws, all of Statesboro; and Larry Beaufort of Atlanta; one sister, Ashley Beaufort of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and his fiancée, Keshanna Simms of Glennville; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 9, in the chapel of Harper's Funeral Home in Claxton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 10, at New Bethaven Primitive Baptist Church in Collins. Interment will be in Wilkerson Cemetery.

Orbie "Buzz" Ruis

Orbie "Buzz" Ruis, 75, died Wednesday morning, February 1, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Lowndes County native had lived in Reidsville for the past 20 years. He was retired from Georgia State Prison as a Correctional Officer. He was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict, and was a member of Cat Creek Baptist Church in Valdosta. He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Crout.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Ruis of Reidsville; two daughters, Virginia Anne Chapman of Jacksonville and Valerie Buckner of South Carolina; two sons, Ricky Ruis of Valdosta and Glen Ruis of Adel; a niece, Ann (John) Shytle of Valdosta; two nephews, Leroy Fender of Jacksonville and Terrell Ruis of Moultrie; a special godchild, Dallas Smith of Reidsville; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 4, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P. O. Box 531, Statesboro, Georgia 30459.

Carolyn H. Stansell

Carolyn H. Stansell, 76, of Winder, Georgia, died February 4, 2006. She was born in Homestead, Florida, and was the daughter of the late Harvey and Florence Petty Thrift. She was a former Administrator at the Altamaha Nursing Home in Jesup. She had resided in Winder since 1996 where she was a co-owner and operator of Sips Expresso Café. She was a member of Winder First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, John E. Stansell of Winder; children: Dianne and Merle Gay of Watkinsville; Wilda and Danny Stanfield and Hilda and Jimmy Roddy, all of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; Mike and Debbie Smith of Auburn; Jeff and Traci Smith of Paris, Tennessee; Caren Anne and Raymond Gilliam of Knoxville, Tennessee; John D. and Jamie Stansell and Robert and Robin Stansell, all of Winder; Jennifer Stansell of New Orleans, Louisiana; Harold and Sheryl Stansell of Tampa, Florida; Richard and Lisa Stansell of Buford; Connie and Jimmy Johnson of Beverly Beach, Florida; and David and Carol Harper of Jesup; 28 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Charlotte Bacon and Eunice Kemp, both of Glennville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m Monday, February 6, at Winder First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry Rary and the Rev. Susan McLocklin officiating. Interment was at 4 p.m. in Glennville City Cemetery.

Mattie Lee Williams

Mattie Lee Paul Williams, 96, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Claxton where she had resided for the past five years and under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Jefferson County native attended Georgia Women's College in Milledgeville, now Georgia College, and received a degree in Early Childhood Education. She moved to Glennville to live with her sister, and began her teaching career at Ella Grove and Beards Creek Schools where she met her devoted and loving companion, Dessie Williams. She retired from teaching to rear her children and later resumed her career, opening the first private kindergarten in Glennville where she taught four generations. She was the oldest living member of Colemen's Chapel in Wadley, Georgia, and was also active in teaching piano lessons and as the pianist for Ella Grove Baptist Church in Glennville. She was selected as Woman of the Year in 1984. Her sentiment in life was "to teach a child is to touch a life forever."
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Carlon Lewis of Claxton and Brenda and Stephen Bryant of Vidalia; one grandson, Carlon Lewis II, and wife, Michelle, of Florence, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Kelly and Austin Lewis; a special friend and companion, Betty Blocker Smith; three sisters: Alice Walburg and Katherine Brown of Wadley and Rebecca Hall of Kite; and three brothers: Edward Paul of Millen, Lewis Paul of Wadley, and Gerald Paul of Lafayette.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, with the Rev. Stephen Bryant officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carlon Lewis II, Clint Dasher, Matt Dasher, Ricky Salter, Kyle Durrence, Ken Rogers, Sara Dasher, and Megan Mobley.
