Eunell Kirkland Avant, 93, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Liberty County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church, and attended the Baxter Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe B. Avant.
She is survived by a foster son, William H. Phillips of Lake Williams, Florida; a godson, Fred Crouch III of Washington, D. C.; and several nieces and nephews: Jimmy and Julie Boatright of Brunswick; William S. Lee of Titusville, Florida; Robert E. Pound of Atlanta; and Gerry Avant of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 21, in Glennville City Cemetery, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating.
Pallbearers were Jim Boatright, Brice Pound, Robbie Pound, William Couch, Clinton D. Avant, and Derrell Rogers.

"Babe" Fowler
Marion Eugene "Babe" Fowler, 71, died Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at Tattnall Healthcare Center under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Spartanburg County native had lived in Denmark, South Carolina, for the last 46 years. He retired from Utica Tool Company. He served in the U. S. Navy for 17 years, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Bethel Baptist Church in Cope, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rachel F. Brown; his father, Walter M. Fowler; and two brothers, Sidney Fowler and Wilbur Fowler.
He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Sunkle of Michigan; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rachel Cole of Reidsville and Kate and Walter Strickland of Denmark, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Crypt side services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, at Bamberg Memory Gardens in Bamberg, South Carolina.

Edith B. Kirkland
Edith B. Kirkland, 86, died Friday, January 20, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home under Ogeechee Area Hospice. The lifelong resident of Tattnall County was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church. She was a retired secretary and telephone operator for the Sikes Telephone Company in Glennville.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Doug McMurtry of Reidsville and Judy and Danny Watson of Glennville; sons and daughter-in-law: Michael and Dot Kirkland of Alabaster, Alabama; Jimmy Kirkland of Blairsville; and John Kirkland of Glennville; sisters, Vera Bourne and Bonnie NeSmith, both of Statesboro; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 22, at Glennville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Keith Rustin, the Rev. Jim Rogers, and the Rev. Gabe Gill officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Derrell Thigpen, Denny Thigpen, Keith Kirkland, Kevin Kirkland, Danny Watson, and Billy Brown.

Lavarn Murphy
Lavarn Murphy died January 21, 2006. She was born on April 12, 1959, in Glennville, Georgia. She was a member of First African Baptist Church in Glennville.
She is survived by one son, David Murphy of Hinesville; one daughter, Lashanda Bowens of Hinesville; and two sisters, Debra Murphy of Glennville and Shirley Dickerson of Mobile, Alabama.
Viewing will be Friday, January 27, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the sanctuary of Harper's Funeral Home in Claxton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, at First African Baptist Church in Glennville. Interment will be in Hall Town Cemetery.

Adrian L. Nease
Adrian L. Nease, 58, died Friday, January 20, 2006, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. He was born in Effingham County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Cohen J. Nease. He had lived in Midway for many years, moving to the Long County and Glennville area in 1995. He was employed in the heavy equipment industry, and was a former member of the Effingham County Civil Defense. He was a member of Meldrim United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Cindy Driggers, and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Nease of Glennville; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Wendy Redd and Luis Diaz of Glennville; a sister, Iris Gertrelle Campbell of Meldrim; five grandchildren: Daniel and Crystal Crummey, Brandon Crummey, Robert Redd, Sierra Redd, and Adrian Redd Diaz, all of Glennville; one great-granddaughter, Lilly Crummey of Glennville; and a niece, Bonnie C. DeLoach of Meldrim.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2006, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Peter Vermeulen officiating.

Myrtle B. Ray
Myrtle B. Ray, 85, died Saturday, January 21, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church, and was retired from the Tattnall County Board of Education as a food service worker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Slim Ray; a sister, Monice Arnold; and brothers, J. D. Baker and Earl Baker.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn R. and Tommy Moore of Glennville and Janet R. and Ted French of Charleston, South Carolina; a son and daughter-in-law, Jewette E. and Carolyn Ray of Vidalia; sisters: Warnell Roberts of Swainsboro; Bonnie Akins of Lakeland, Florida; Jackie O'Neal of Hinesville; Nancile O'Conner of Fernandina Beach, Florida; and Anglyn Anderson of Reidsville; brothers, Herbert Baker of Eatonton and Jerrell Baker of Glennville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 23, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel. Burial was at Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Susan J. Rivers
Susan Jeanne Rivers, 51, died Monday, January 23, 2006, at Liberty Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was a native of Germany, and had lived in Liberty County since 1989, having moved there from St. Louis, Missouri. She was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, and a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Rivers of Hinesville; a son, Robert Rivers of Hinesville; his mother, Jeanne Seibert of New York; and a brother.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 28, at Glennville Church of God, with the Rev. John Nunes officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service.

Charles E. Wildes
Charles Edward Wildes, 98, of the Hillview Community, died Sunday, January 8, 2006, in his home where he was born on June 1, 1907. He was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County, and a retired farmer. He was a member of Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church, and the Roger Wood Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Editha Boyett Wildes; his son Martin, to whom he gave daily care for 43 years until 2004; and his son-in-law, Benjie Smith.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Farrell and Jan Wildes of Ringgold, Jay and Julia Wildes of Hillview Community, and Vann and Marilyn Wildes of Hoschton; six daughters and sons-in-law: Norma Wildes and Mary and Jimmy Sapp, all of Statesboro; Carolyn Smith of Reidsville; Martha and Carl Lacy of Conroe, Texas; and Faye Kennedy and Kay Wildes, both of Metter; two sisters-in-law, Dera Bicaise of Charleston and Tycile Williamson of Lyons; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 10, at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Tom Deal officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Clevie Todd
William Clevie Todd, 89, died Sunday, February 8, 2004, at Glenvue Nursing Home. He was a lifelong resident of Glennville and a member of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. He was a former farmer and retired employee of the Georgia Department of Transportation.
He is survived by his wife, Montez Todd, of Glennville; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Delwin Dowdy of Reidsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy C. and Joanne Todd of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Edsel and Jaynean Todd of Stone Mountain, Georgia; a brother, Talmadge Todd of Glennville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 10, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Elder W.H. Durrence officiating. Pallbearers were grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
Burial was in Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Robert Odum
Robert Hal Odum, 55, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at his residence.
The Reidsville native attended Georgia Southern College and was a retired musician who had been a member of the Black Water Band and the R.B. and the Gang Band where he traveled America. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Vietnam and was a member of the Navy Blue Jacket Choir. He had lived in Memphis and California, where he was employed as a veterinarian technician for many years, moving back to Reidsville in February 2002. He was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church and a former church organist.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Elders of Reidsville; a daughter, Brittany Juarez of Gulf Port, Florida; a sister, Fleta Wood of Reidsville; a brother, Edwin Elders of Monroe, Michigan; two grandchildren, Haley and Kayla Juarez, both of Gulf Port, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 7, at 2 p.m., at the Reidsville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Marshall Singletary and David Hudson officiating. Interment was in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Francis Cammarano
Francis P. Cammarano died February 1, 2004.
He was a 1967 graduate of DeSales High School and held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Buffalo State, a Master’s Degree (M.Ed.) in Education and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) Degree from Georgia Southern University.
He was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with a “V” device for Heroism. He owned and operated Camco Battery in Lockport, New York, and was a Georgia secondary teacher of biology, computers, and technology. He was named Teacher of the Year in 1988, 1997, and 2001. He was a teacher at Glennville High School during the 1980s.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Hurst); one daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and John Mauliola; and two sons, Damon and Zachary.
Remembrances can be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Mildred Dasher
Mildred K. Dasher, 70, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at home under Hospice care. The Tattnall County native was a member of Glennville First Christian Church. She was a retired legal secretary who had worked for Cowart and Cowart attorneys and Dubberly and McGovern attorneys.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Buddy Bradley of Glennville, Georgia, and Jo Ellen and Harold Veal of Rincon; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gene “Bucky” Driggers and Alan and Renee Dasher, all of Glennville; one sister, Mary Harden of Reidsville, Georgia; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 7, at Glennville City Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. David Everton.
Pallbearers were Matt Bradley, Stuart Bradley, Jamey Durrence, Garry Harden, Jared Veal, and Steve Knight.

Doyle Waters
Francis Doyle Waters, 78, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. The Tattnall County native was a graduate of The University of Georgia, a World War II veteran, and was retired as a vice president with Guaranty Savings and Loan Bank of Birmingham. He was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church of Birmingham.
He is survived by three sisters, Myrtice Kicklighter of Glennville, Georgia; Letha Newlin of Tampa, Florida; and Lillie Bell Woodward of Port Wentworth; one brother, Troy Beach Waters of Charlotte, North Carolina; a very special friend, Jim Siler of Birmingham; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 7, at Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder W. H. Durrence officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews Kenny Waters, Russell Terry Waters, Marvin Moxley, Jackie Waters, Fletcher Woodward, and Ronnie Waters.
