Jimmy Mobley
Brother James “Jimmy” Mobley died Friday, February 6, 2004, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dublin, Georgia, after a short illness. He was born March 19, 1931, in Tattnall County to the late Tom and Pearlie Mobley. He attended the public school system in Tattnall County. He served for several years in the U.S. Army. He married Beatrice Mincey, who preceded him in death. Two children were born of this union. After spending a few years away from home, he later married Mathie Hall Smith Mobley, who later died, but one child was born of this union. He moved back to Reidsville, Georgia, and joined Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. He remained a faithful member until a short-term illness.
He is survived by two sisters, Wilman (Rev. Lee) Jones and Pearlie (Devon) Beal, all of Collins; three children: Gwen (Calvin) Rutherford and Derrick L. Mobley, all of Metter, and Martin Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 14, at 1 p.m. at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Will White and the Rev. Artis Carswell officiating. Interment followed at Robert Chapel Cemetery in Tyson, Georgia.
Josie Taylor
Josie L. Taylor, 47, died February 21, 2004, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, Georgia. The Sarasota, Florida, native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, for the past ten years. She was a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by three children: Danyell Lucas of Yatesville, Georgia; Martin Lott of Fountain, Florida; and Jesse Hall of Glennville; and one brother, Richard Lind of Fountain, Florida.
Funeral services will be private at a later date.

Gene Clary
Gene Clary died Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at his home in Baltimore, Maryland.
He is survived by sisters and brothers: Linda Sue Sunderland of Holly Hills, North Carolina; Peggy Arlene Thompson and husband, Clayton, of Baltimore, Maryland; Gerald W. Clary and wife, Shirley, of Springfield, Missouri; and Curtis Durrell Clary and wife, Wanda, of Lavale, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 13, at Cobb Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tommy Ray officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Womack, Jeff Reynolds, Kathy Clary, Jimmy Todd, Wayne Todd, and Clayton Thompson.

Gladys Harrington
Gladys Harrington, 64, died Thursday, February 9, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Iowa native had lived in Maryland for many years, moving to Claxton 20 years ago. She was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband, Ashby Charles Harrington.
She is survived by two sons, Michael McNeal of New Orleans and George McNeal of Claxton; a sister, Donna Hellfman of Moultrie; a grandson, Noah McNeal of Texas; two nieces; and one nephew.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment was in Brewton Cemetery in Hagan.

Walter "Walt" Manuel
Walter "Walt" Eugene Manuel, 69, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Emory University in Atlanta. The Bulloch County native lived most of his life in Metter. He was a retired salesman with Murray Biscuit Company and McCorkle Cricket Farm. He was a member of Metter Presbyterian Church, having served as Elder.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Terri Manuel of Snellville; daughter and son-in-law, Ceci and Don Jordan of Reidsville; former wife and best friend, Sarita Shafe Manuel; one brother and two sisters: Toby Manuel, Betty Bell, and Mae Bland, all of Metter; grandchildren: Angel and Gavin Jordan of Reidsville and Caitlin and Lauren Manuel of Snellville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, at Metter Presbyterian Church, officiated by Ministers Mike Welchel and Marla Bauer. Burial was Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tim Wilson, Lester Kingery, Chuck Clark, Len Hunnicutt, Vincent Chan, and Ed Bero.

Nealy P. McKinney
Nealy P. McKinney, 88, died Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Wheeler County native had lived in Glennville since 1967. She was a seamstress, and retired from the Glennville Hatchery. She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by husbands, Truman C. Rogers, Caleb Blocker, and Richard McKinney.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Bonnie and Don Lamb of Bell Buckle, Tennessee; Freddie and David Carroll of Montezuma; and Patty and Buster Wilson of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law: Ted and Lynda Rogers of Manchester; Tony and Jewel Rogers of College Dale, Tennessee; and Jerry and Irene Rogers of Odum; sisters and brother-in-law, Bobbie Jean and George Shuptrine of Odum and Irene Ussery of Wilson, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 9, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Andy Adams officiating. Burial was in Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery.

Angel Smiley
Infant Angel Grace Smiley died Saturday, February 11, 2006.
She is survived by her parents, Scotty and Carmen Smiley; a sister and brother, Cassidy and Dustin Smiley; and a half-sister, Chelsea Smiley; maternal grandparents, Jane and Donnie Stubbs; paternal grandmother, Brenda Smiley; and maternal great-grandmother, Nellie Jernigan, all of Glennville; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, at Birdford Baptist Church Cemetery.

Eloise Swindell
Eloise Brannen Swindell, 87, died Monday, February 13, 2006, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick. The Bulloch County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church, a former member and president of the Glennville Garden Club, and a retired beautician. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Swindell.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Nan Swindell of Bellville Bluff; a sister, Frances Griffin of Garden City; three grandchildren: Ritchie Swindell, Jay Swindell, and Colden Swindell; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, with the Rev. Bobby Brinkley officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gerald Strickland, James Maund, Garland Stephens, Butch Griffin, Lawrence Swindell, and Don Kicklighter.

Susie O. Alexander
Susie Oliver Alexander, 91, died Friday night, February 11, 2005, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Alexander.
She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Murphy of Collins; four grandchildren: George and Dianne Murphy of Canton, Georgia; Frank and Lynn Murphy and Jennie and Don Warren, all of Collins; and Mary and Cleve Arthur of Reidsville; two sisters, Lucille Anderson and Christine Collins, both of Collins; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 14, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment was in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mike Mulling
Mike Mulling, 49, died Thursday, February 10, 2005, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of his life. He was a manager employed with Claxton Poultry for many years. He was very athletic and received the MPV award in baseball and basketball. He was an inductee into the Brewton-Parker Hall of Fame. He was a member of Collins United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold C. Mulling.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Amber and Randy Atkins and Heather Mulling, all of Atlanta; his mother, Marie Lynn Mulling of Collins; a sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Jimmy Mosley of Collins; two brothers, Rodney Mulling and Greg Mulling, both of Collins; two grandchildren, Christian and Caleb Atkins, both of Atlanta; three nieces: Michelle Wilt, Lindsay Mosley, and Courtney Mosley; two nephews, Craig Mulling and Scott Mulling; and five great-nieces.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 13, at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church in Collins. Interment was in the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nadine Graham
Nadine Graham, 75, died Sunday, February 24, 2002, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia. The Tattnall County native was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Graves of Lumberton, North Carolina, and Jeanette Hickox of Brunswick, Georgia; three sons: Barry Graham, Jackie Graham, and Timothy Graham, all of Glennville, Georgia; four sisters: Lillian Wallace of Eulonia, Georgia; Willie Bell Joseph of Glennville; Letha Ann Stanfield of Midway, Georgia; and Dora Lee Moody of Ludowici, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Elmer O. Parker
Elmer O. Parker, 86, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, after a short illness. The Long County native had lived in Columbia, South Carolina, for the past 28 years, subsequent to his retirement as Assistant Director of the National Archives, Washington, D. C. Prior to his association with the National Archives, he was a public school teacher and principal, and served as a first lieutenant in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Brewton-Parker College and Georgia Southern University.
In 1975, his name appeared on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, in Newsweek magazine, and in hundreds of newspapers across the land, because Congress, on the basis of a discovery he made in the National Archives, voted to restore the U. S. citizenship of General Robert E. Lee, which had been lost when Lee led Confederate Armies in defense of his native state during the War for Southern Independence. He was a well known historian and genealogist and the author of several books, including the History of Jones Creek Church. He was a member of that church, and of the prestigious Jamestown Society.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his wife, Essel Griffin Parker.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Kay Baker of Columbia, South Carolina, and Elizabeth P. Griffin of Roanoke, Virginia; two sisters, Marinelle P. Chestnutt of Ludowici, Georgia, and Anita P. Gordon of Jesup, Georgia; and three grandchildren: Mary E. Schons, Samuel Schons, and Margaret Schons.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, at Jones Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Stokes officiating. Burial was in Jones Creek Cemetery under the direction of Gordon-Harrison Funeral Home of Jesup.

Nellie R. Anderson
Nellie R. Anderson, 80, died Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudie Anderson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beatrice and Walter Anderson of Glennville; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Vanada and Horace Stanfield of Lakeland, Florida; a stepson, Vernon Anderson of Athens; two sisters, Sybil Lynn and Junemae Lynn, both of Crescent, Georgia; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Zandra and Glen Akins of Glennville; three grandsons and granddaughters-in-law: Robert and Susan Moody, Wesley and Misti Kicklighter, and Bryan and Cheryl Anderson, all of Glennville; six great-grandchildren: Cody Akins, Austin Akins, Chalmus Kicklighter, Raegan Kicklighter, Matthew Anderson, and Tanner Moody, all of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.

James R. Tothill
James R. Tothill, 80, of Mills River, North Carolina, died Saturday evening, February 16, 2002, at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, North Carolina, following a brief battle with cancer. Born in Washington, D. C., he was the son of the late Francis James Tothill and Virgil Thomas Tothill. His father, born in England, was the first generation of Tothills to come to America.
He lived a number of years in Aiken, South Carolina, prior to moving to Henderson County about 32 years ago. A World War II veteran, he served in the United States Navy in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operation. Prior to retiring in 1991, he had been employed by IMOCO for 21 years as a senior engineer in Industrial Maintenance. He was a member of Golden Kiwanis, and Pinecrest Presbyterian Church where he had formerly served as an elder and a deacon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Myrna Tothill of Mills River, North Carolina; one stepson, Paul Baxley of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; two stepdaughters, Gina Harris of Swannanoa, North Carolina, and Jill Baxley of Hendersonville, North Carolina; one brother, Frank Tothill, and wife Nancye, of High Point, North Carolina; one sister, Dorothy Woods of Salem, Virginia; three grandsons: Justin Ebaugh of Swannanoa, North Carolina; and Colton Cantrell and Tanner Burrell of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Charles Evans and the Rev. Brian Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James Rodney Tothill Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 686, Hendersonville, North Carolina 28793.
