Eugene A. Eaby

Eugene A. Eaby, 91, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Pennsylvania native had lived in Glennville since 1991. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and was retired from the U. S. Army with 28 years of service. He was stationed at the White House, and had served under six Presidents.
He is survived by a daughter, Ruth Peacock of Glennville, Georgia; four sons and daughters-in-law: Eugene, Jr., and Nancy Eaby of Joppa Towne, Maryland; Curtis and Joyce Eaby of Daytona Beach, Florida; Robert and Kathy Eaby of White Plains, Maryland; and Alan and Judy Eaby of Ormond Beach, Florida; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Caldwell officiating. Entombment was at Glennville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Remembrances can be made to the Methodist Children’s Home in Macon, Georgia.

Hazel Pursley

Hazel Faircloth Pursley, 81, died Thursday, February 27, 2003, at Midway Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived at Isle of Wight since 1977. She was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband, H. C. “Johnny” Pursley.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy and Patsy Long of Isle of Wight, and Tommy and Paula Bateman of Orlando, Florida; one sister, Lyndal Hozack of Minneola, Florida; one brother, James Faircloth of Glennville, Georgia; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, March 3, at 11 a.m. at Minneola Cemetery in Minneola, Florida.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of local arrangements.

Shirley Strickland

Shirley Jean Strickland, 62, died Thursday, February 27, 2003, at East Georgia Regional Hospital. The Ware County native had lived in Reidsville, Georgia, since 1973. She was a homemaker, and was Pentecostal in faith. She was preceded in death by a son, Willie Strickland.
She is survived by four children: Ricky Strickland of Glennville; and Obie Strickland, Walter Strickland, and Darlene Bunch, all of Reidsville; two daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; three sisters: Ruby O’Neal of Jesup, Georgia; and Vera Prichard and Christine Turner, both of Evansville, Tennessee; two brothers, W. T. Screws of Jacksonville, Florida, and Charlie Screws of Reidsville; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 2, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with the Rev. William Prince officiating.
Pallbearers were Brad Barnard; Robert Shore; Wally Rhoden; Gene Kirkland, Jr.; Eddie Merritt; Derrick Murray; Kevin Barnard; and Junior Herb.
Cobb Funeral Home of Reidsville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ruby Moody

Ruby Jane Moody, 79, died Sunday, March 2, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Long County, and a member of Pigot Branch Missionary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Moody.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and Roger Kicklighter of Glennville, Georgia; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Janet Moody of Long County; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 4, at 2 p.m. at Pigot Branch Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Young officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dale Moody, Bill Wingate, Mike Wingate, Richard Faulk, Paul Kicklighter, and Randy Moody.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

James E. Wells

James E. “Jim” Wells, 52, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at his residence. The New York native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, for the past 27 years, and was employed by Duramatic for 21 years. He was a member of First Christian Church, and a U. S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Nell Wells of Glennville; three stepsons: Talmadge Ray, Ricky Ray, and Wade Ray, all of Glennville; one sister, Susan Schreckengost of New York; three brothers: Steven Wells and David Wells of New York and Gregory Wells of Atlanta; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Wilton Ray, the Rev. David Everton, and the Rev. Tommy Ray officiating. Burial was in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Adam Wells, Craig Sapp, Benjie Ray, Trey Parrish, Chris Wilson, and Keith Schreckengost.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Alazda Anderson
Alzada Anderson, 85, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Evans County native lived in Glennville most of her life. She was retired from the health care profession as a nursing aide, a homemaker, and a member of Cornerstone Bible Church.
She is survived by four sons: Roger Barrow and Jackie Barrow of Glennville; Charles Barrow of Savannah; and Robert Strickland of Pensacola, Florida; a daughter, Ada Barrow of Jesup; a sister, Ada Blocker of Manassas; a brother, Dewey Anderson of West Palm Beach, Florida; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 6, at 3 p.m. at Carter Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Sutton officiating. Burial was at Harmony Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Waters, James Waters, Jason Waters, Danny Prudence, Scott Lamons, and James Lynn.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Henry DeLoach
Henry Theodore DeLoach died February 26, 2002, in Woodbury, New York. The Tattnall County native had lived in Hicksville, Long Island, New York, for more than 50 years. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, serving in the European Theatre during World War II. He retired from A&P Company after 29 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; his parents, Ossie and Katie Byrd DeLoach; and a sister, Elizabeth Daughtry.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis Anne and Alan Berner of Bethpage, New York; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Jeanie DeLoach of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; two sisters, Allijean Stubbs and Joyce Stubbs, both of Glennville, Georgia; two brothers, Phentrice DeLoach and Prentice DeLoach, both of Mobile, Alabama; two granddaughters; and four grandsons.
Funeral services were held March 1 in Hicksville, New York. Burial was in Calverton National Cemetery with full military honors.

Harriet Rhoden
Harriett Rogers Rhoden, 63, of Reidsville, Georgia, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, Georgia, after a long illness. A native of Evans County, she had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Wilton Rhoden of Reidsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Norman Ioane of Savannah, Georgia; one son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Dawn Rhoden of Reidsville; her mother, Sybil Rogers Bailey of Reidsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Rosalyn and Jerry Cox of Reidsville; her mother-in-law, Yvonne Rhoden of Reidsville; and two grandchildren, Tia Ioane of Savannah and Chase Rhoden of Reidsville.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sidney Rogers; stepfather, Bill Bailey; and father-in-law, Russell Rhoden.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at Reidsville United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Marshall Singletary and the Rev. David Hagan. Burial was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Charles Charles, Theron Rogers, Jack Caldwell, Mike Mullins, Harold Kemp, Neil Rogers, and Jimmy Rogers.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the American Diabetes Association.
McCall-Anderson Funeral Home of Reidsville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Maurese Thompson
Maurese D. Thompson, 87, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Evans Memorial Hospital. He was born in Tyson Community of Tattnall County. After putting himself through electrical school in Chicago, he worked various jobs as an electrician until beginning work with the ACL Railroad. After his retirement in 1975 he returned to the Tyson Community. He was a resident of Glenvue Nursing Home for the past eight years, a member of Blue Lodge #256 in Lakeland, Florida, and a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa L. Thompson.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, D. Clark and Marsha L. Thompson of Ft. Pierce, Florida; his grandchildren, Kari T. Newell of Ft. Pierce, Erik C. and wife Vickie E. Thompson of Navarre, Florida; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Taylor Thompson, Thaddaeus David Newell, and Kameron Paige Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 5, at 10 a.m. at Carter Funeral Chapel with Dr. D. Clark Thompson and the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial was at Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Parker Thompson, Juan Thompson, Ricky Wilson, Jim Stanfield, Erik Thompson, and Kari Newell.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

L. D. Todd
L. D. Todd, 63, died Monday, January 28, 2002, at St. John's Hospital in Oxnard, California. He was born March 25, 1938, in Tattnall County, Georgia, to Lewis Todd and Minnie (Barrow) Todd. His parents, sons Johnny Todd and Mark Todd, and brother Ralph Jernigan preceded him in death.
Mr. Todd was a retired dry cleaner owner and operator, and was also a U. S. Navy veteran. He lived most of his life in California.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Jordack Todd; two sons, David Todd of Mantica, California, and Michael Todd of Havelock, North Carolina; two daughters, Linda Todd of Santa Clara, California, and Lisa Todd of Mantica, California; one brother, Norris Jernigan of LaPorte, Indiana; and five granddaughters.
Memorial services and interment of ashes will be at Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church and Cemetery in Tattnall County, Georgia, at a later date.
James A. Reardon Funeral Home was in charge of cremation.

Ava Meadows

Ava Bullock Meadows, 64, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The Toombs County native lived in Reidsville until moving to Savannah 40 years ago. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Erin Meadows of Savannah.
Funeral services and burial will be private.

Leila McLeod

Leila Bland McLeod, 85, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at home after an extended illness under Southern Care Hospice. The Tattnall County native was a member of Pineview Baptist Church, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, George McLeod; grandson Jimmy Sikes; four brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Jeanette Sikes and Tammy Rivera of Reidsville; Paula Fuller of Vidalia; Sybil and James Maund of Sapelo Island; and Brenda and Leland Beecher of Ludowici; sons and daughters-in-law: Ronnie and Lynn McLeod and Dean and Karen McLeod, all of Reidsville; one sister, Lillian Bruce of Meldrim; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 4, at Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jesse Browning and the Rev. Brian Patrick. Burial was in Pineview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Sands, Tracy Sands, Keith McLeod, Terry Beecher, Brian McFann, and Brian Fuller.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Floyd

Mary Winona Smith Floyd, 81, died at her residence on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, after an extended illness. She was under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. The McIntosh County native was a longtime resident of Reidsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Cleveland Floyd, Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Floyd of Reidsville; a son, Grover C. Floyd III of St. Steven, South Carolina; one brother, William N. Smith, Jr., of Flemington; four grandchildren: Jane Tanner Harris, Grover C. Floyd IV, Mary Catherine Tanner, and Marc Floyd; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services and interment were held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the McIntosh Family Cemetery in McIntosh County, with the Rev. McKinley Brown officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were retired Canoochee employees.

Janie Ruth Fillmore

Janie Ruth Carter Fillmore, 86, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005. She was born July 2, 1918, to the late Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Mobley in Tattnall County, Georgia. She was united in marriage to the late L. Z. Carter. She was preceded in death by two daughters, five sisters, and five brothers. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Reidsville.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Colis E. Mincey and Fred D. Mincey, Jr.; three granddaughters: Nikkie Smith, Dian Mincey, and Cathy Hall; two grandsons-in-law, Carl Smith and Hilton Hall, Jr.; five great-grandchildren: James L. Smith, Jason D. Smith, Britney Hall, Jessica West, and Rick Denson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at Reidsville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
King and Sons Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Frederick G. Dufel

Frederick G. Dufel, 74, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The New York native had lived in McIntosh County for many years before moving to Reidsville in 1987. He retired from the U. S. Navy as a chief petty officer and served as Chief Master of Arms on the USS Constellation. He was a former police officer, serving with the Brunswick Police Department, and was employed with Pilot Life as a Ordinary Agent in Brunswick. He was a Master Mason with Solar Lodge #14 F&AM in Bath, Maine. He was preceded in death by his father, Christian Frederick Dufel.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lu Jean Dufel of Reidsville; one son, Frederick Jon Dufel (Martha Dekle) of Brunswick; two daughters, Carol Dufel McCarthy (Isom Cribbs, Sr.) of Darien and Reika Dufel Strickland and Brian Strickland of Reidsville; his mother, Mildred Dufel Hotaling of Pine Plains, New York; one sister, Judith (Ronald) Parliman of Pine Plains, New York; two granddaughters, Krystie Lee McCarthy and Kelly Diane McCarthy of Waynesville; one niece, Heather Parliman Oliver; and one nephew, Brian Parliman.
Memorial funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with military honors. The Rev. Ed Williams and the Rev. Jerald Dorr officiated the service.
Memorials may be given to Pearls of Life Hospice, 13 S. Newton Street, Claxton, Georgia 30417.
