Frances Blocker

Frances Blocker, 78, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, at Central State Nursing Home in Milledgeville after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville for several years, moving to Milledgeville many years ago. She was a Catholic.
She is survived by two sisters, Onell Barnard and Emily Hammock, both of Glennville; one brother, Jeral Blocker of Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 7, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Glennville, with Father Ed Gorney officiating. Burial was in Watermelon Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Derrell Bland, Gary Banks, John Narcarti, Dana Hammock, Will Mahnke, and David Smith.
Remembrances can be made to Watermelon Creek Church Cemetery Fund, 8882 Hwy. 144, Glennville, Georgia 30427.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Gary Barnard

Gary Barnard, 57, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at his residence. The Candler County native had worked for 50 years in law enforcement, serving the last eight years as Chief Deputy for the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, The Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, and a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Paul Barnard.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Connie A. Barnard of Cobbtown; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Rodney Todd of Reidsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jennifer Barnard of Reidsville; his mother, Maude H. Barnard of Reidsville; one sister, Janice Medors of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; eight brothers: David Barnard, Ricky Barnard, Timmy Barnard, Brad Barnard, and Kevin Barnard, all of Reidsville; Bobby Barnard of Daisy; Wayne Barnard of Metter; and Stanley Barnard of Collins; five grandchildren: Ashley Glisson, Kristen Boyett, Kaleb Boyett, Kayleigh Barnard, and Logan Barnard; one great-grandchild, Trenton Glisson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 5, at Twin Oaks Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerald Dorr and the Rev. Ernest Gordy officiating. Burial was in Cedar Creek Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jim Padgett, Ronnie Todd, Ottis "Pop” Anderson, Kyle Sapp, James "Buddy” Collins, Ken Rogers, Randy Sykora, and Kenneth Youngblood.
Honorary pallbearers were Tattnall County Sheriff’s Department employees, reserve deputies, and law enforcement officers.
Cobb Funeral Home of Reidsville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

S. Dan Waller, Sr.

S. Dan Waller, Sr., 90, died Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Treutlen County native moved to Reidsville in 1938. He was a member and a deacon of Reidsville Baptist Church. He spent most of his life in law enforcement, having served as a county policeman and was elected as Tattnall County Sheriff, serving from 1949 to 1956. He served as a special investigator for the Georgia Department of Transportation for 22 years. He was a 50-year Mason, and was a member of the Reidsville Lions Club for more than 55 years.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Bill Waller and John Woods, and his wife, Jewel Canady Waller.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Don Cobb of Glennville; one son, Danny Waller of Lake Sinclair; one daughter-in-law, Kim Woods of Reidsville; grandchildren: Dr. Keith Cobb of Savannah; Danice Macon of Lawrenceville; Clay Waller of Marietta; Brian Cobb of Salisbury, North Carolina; Bill Waller Preston of Douglas; and Claire Woods and Lou Woods of Reidsville; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 4, at Reidsville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Burial was in Reidsville City Cemetery, with Masonic Rites.
Pallbearers were Scott Wilson, Brent Wilson, Carson Cobb, Lou Woods, Mike Waller, Parker Waller, and Jeff Waller.
Remembrances can be made to Reidsville Baptist Church, 146 Brazell Street, Reidsville, Georgia 30453.

Jeanie Driggers

Jeanie Driggers, 62, died Monday, February 6, 2006, at Southeast Georgia Health Systems, Brunswick Campus. She was born in Tattnall County but was reared in Darien. She was the Darien High School Class of 1961 Valedictorian, and was the cheerleading captain. She was also a great artist, who enjoyed drawing and painting.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Oren Driggers of St. Simons Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Angie Driggers of St. Simons Island and Andy and Donna Driggers of Brunswick; a sister, Judy Dasher of Glennville; five grandchildren: Megan and Amanda Driggers (and their mother, Suzy Driggers) and Melissa Key, all of St. Simons Island; and Jeannie and Alex Driggers of Brunswick.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Owens officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 1624 Reynolds Street, Brunswick, Georgia 31520.

Martha Huiett

Martha Huiett, 60, died Friday, February 17, 2006. She was born July 11, 1945, in Daisy, Georgia, to the late Fleming and Ardelia Adams. She attended the public school in Tattnall County. She was a member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Groveland, Georgia, and later joined First African Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville where she received Christ and worshiped faithfully until the Lord called her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Huiett Sr.; one daughter; a sister; and a brother.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary (Randall) King, Sr., of Glennville; four sons, Henry Huiett, Jr.; John (Janet) Huiett, Calvin Huiett; and David Huiett, all of Glennville; two sisters, Alice Howard and Lula Mae Butler of Glennville; a niece (she called her daughter), Linda Smith; five sisters-in-law: Bennie Mae Collins of Hinesville; Ruby Darrisaw of Tennille; Ada Simmons of Lakeland, Florida; and Earthel Huiett and Helen Huiett of Columbia, South Carolina; three brothers-in-law: Robert Huiett and Charles Huiett of Columbia, South Carolina, and George Darrisaw of Tennille; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two goddaughters; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends; and a prayer partner, Sister Rubena Surrency.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 23, at 3 p.m. at First African Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville, with the Rev. Martin Bacon and the Rev. Richie Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Glennville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ervin Roberts, Johnny Murphy, Andry J. Harris, Larry Coley, Donohue McNeal, and Gene Oglesbee.
Honorary pall-bearers will be Deacons of the church.

Mary Frances Owens

Mary Frances Owens, 82, a retired bookkeeper, died of complications from cancer Monday, February 20, 2006, at Sunbridge Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Statesboro, Georgia, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She had worked since the 1970s as chief bookkeeper for several motor vehicle dealerships in Georgia, including Threlkeld Motors in Vidalia and Adams Crawler Service in Reidsville, until her retirement in 1987. Previously, she had been a resident of Florida where she was manager of the North Brevard County Tax Collector's motor vehicle office. She was a member of Claxton First Baptist Church. She was born in Atlanta in 1923.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan and Bill Collum of Lake Collins and Gina and Bill Neville of Statesboro; an adopted daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Bill Smith of Bloomingdale; 12 grandchildren: Scott McClenning of Fernandina Beach, Florida; Mike McClenning of Stephens City, Virginia; Heather Cleary of West Palm Beach, Florida; Matt McClenning of Winchester, Virginia; Amy Neville, Leslie Neville, and Will Neville of Statesboro; Ronnie Benton, Lonnie Benton, Chris Smith, Laura Brunner, and Elizabeth Benton, all of Bloomingdale; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Earl Owens, Jr.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 23, at 2 p.m. at Mount Moriah Church in rural Toombs County, with the Rev. David Moxley officiating
Sons-in-law and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Prior to the service, Mrs. Owens will lie in repose at Bradley Anderson Funeral Home in Reidsville from 12 noon to 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to a local Humane Society or to a charity of one's choosing.

Willie Mae Tootle

Willie Mae Tootle, 94, died Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native was the oldest living member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she served as the pianist for 35 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom W. Tootle, and a daughter, Peggy Carr.
She is survived by two daughters, Patsy Fuller of Glennville and Pansy Griner of Baxley; grandchildren: Rhoda Johnson and Devi Griner of Glennville, Mitch Griner of Marietta, Greg Brown of Collins, and Tami Adams and Tony Carr of Tennessee; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Katie Ruth Tootle of Glennville; Dora Jane Kemp of Groveland, Florida; and Carsie Tootle of Orlando, Florida; two brothers, Clyde Tootle of Glennville and L. C. Tootle of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, February 20, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Morgan, Bro. Mike Welter, and the Rev. Bucky Strickland officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jim Tootle, Kline Tootle, Derwood Tootle, Joey Tootle, Durell Tootle, Gary Jones, Cary Tootle, and Marty Weathers.
Honorary pallbearers were the Rev. Lawrence Garrett, the Rev. Ernest Dyal, Jackie Dasher, Murray Benefield, Dale Dutton, Danny Lynn, Bobby Brannen, French Weathers, Jerry Purcell, Quinton Rush, and Donnell Jinks.
Remembrances can be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, Hwy. 178, Glennville, Georgia 30427.

Mattie Carter

Mattie Carter died Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Tattnall Nursing Home. She was born February 17, 1917, to the late Henry and Queen Mobley of Tattnall County. In her adult life, she moved to Savannah.
She is survived by one goddaughter, Patricia A. Williams of Lyons; one sister, Sarah Glover of Bronx, New York; one niece, Alma Tate of Paso Robles, California; two sisters-in-law, Lizzie Mobley of Jacksonville, Florida, and Lucuille Mobley of Detroit, Michigan; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 18, at 11 a.m. at Springfield Baptist Church in Reidsville, officiated by the Rev. Will White. Interment was in Roberts Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Steven Joyce, Micheal Sallie, Tommy Joyce, Ray Joyce, Robert Sharpe, and James Mobley.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Mobley, Dennis Sharpe, Henry E. Mobley, and Thomas Mobley.

Sue Nell Anderson

Sue Nell Anderson, 79, died March 15, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Janis McCurdy, after an extended illness. A native of Tattnall County, she resided in Glennville most of her life, graduating from Glennville High School in 1942. She was the owner of Sue’s Beauty Shop and retired in 1981. She was a charter member of Cornerstone Bible Church. Sue Nell was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Elton M. Anderson of Glennville; one daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Jimmy McCurdy of Glennville; one granddaughter, Lisa McCurdy Barry of Glennville; one grandson, Lee McCurdy of Shellman Bluff; two great-grandchildren, Blake Barry and Turner McCurdy; one sister, Samarata Griffin; four brothers: Racile Dreggors, William Dreggors, Norris Dreggors, and Larry Dreggors; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Anderson.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Cornerstone Bible Church, conducted by Bro. Robert Kicklighter. Burial was in Pigot Branch Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Daniel Dreggors, Steve Dreggors, Mike Dreggors, Mark Griffin, Tommy Hilliard, and Glenn Purcell.

Mary Bostic Stubbs

Mary Bostic Stubbs, 77, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at her son’s residence in Carrollton after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Miami, Florida, for many years, moving back to Glennville 34 years ago. She was a homemaker, and a member of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Debbie Stubbs of Glennville and Adrian and Terri Stubbs of Carrollton; one brother, Willard Bostic of Chattanooga, Tennessee; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, Georgia, with Elder W. H. Durrence officiating. Burial was in Love’s Chapel Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carl Clark, Jr.; Gary Gantt; Carl Odell Clark; Shawn Stubbs; Rusty Harvey; and Jimmy Callaway.

Renee Bland

Cynthia Renee’ Branch Bland, 43, died Friday, March 14, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Glennville. She was employed at Smith State Prison as a Medical Records Clerk, and was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Dustin Rogers, and a brother, Todd Branch.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Erika B. and Toby Wilson of Glennville; one son, Nathan C. Rogers of Glennville; her mother and stepfather, Sybil and Eddie Rowe of Glennville; her father and stepmother, Gary and Juanita Branch of Glennville; two brothers, Anthony Branch of Melbourne, Florida, and Keith Branch of Glennville; two sisters, Lisa Burkhalter and Samantha Durrence, both of Glennville; one grandson, Toby Scott Wilson, Jr.; grandparents, Troy Colson of Claxton and Agnes Faulk of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Watermelon Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Truman Blankenship officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Randy Burkhalter, Chandler Rogers, Ryan Burkhalter, Michael Rogers, C. C. Hughes, Jared Clark, Chris Clark, and Blake Hughes.
Honorary pallbearers were employees of Smith State Prison.

Gladys Dasher
Gladys Spivey Dasher, 91, of Glennville, Georgia, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia, after an extended illness. She was born in Bulloch County, but had lived all of her life in Tattnall County. She was the oldest member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. She was a member of the Glennville Garden Club, and a former member of Ebenezer Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Dasher was a floral designer and worked with her daughter and granddaughter in the floral business over 15 years. She was an avid gardener and loved to share the flowers she grew with others. She was also an avid fisherman. She was affectionately known as "Miss Gladys" to many of her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel James Dasher; her parents, Elder and Mrs V. Y. Spivey, Sr.; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ulma Lee and Edwin Anderson and Linda and Joe Brannen; five sons and daughters-in-law, Julian and Louise Dasher; Eugene and Barbara Dasher; Charles and Mary Kate Dasher; Eddy and Margie Dasher; and Wayne and Julie Dasher, all of Glennville; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Leo and Kathleen Spivey of Savannah, Georgia; Elder V. Y. and Sue Spivey of Statesboro, Georgia; and Mildred Spivey of Statesboro; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Brenda Spivey of Orlando, Florida, who lived with her for several years.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Sollosi, Bro. Robert Kicklighter, and Elder W. H. Durrence officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Danny Anderson, Keith Dasher, Shad Dasher, Glen Dasher, Jim Dasher, Shane Brannen, Lance Dasher, and Neal Anderson.
