Lula Durrence Anderson, 95, died March 20, 2005, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native lived all her life in Glennville, and was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Billy Shuman, and her husband, Jennis Anderson.
She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Martha S. and George Brandon of Greensboro and Patricia S. Gassaway of Atlanta; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Shuman of Glennville; one sister, Wilma "Dot” Surrency of Glennville; six grandchildren: Cindy Supernaw, Bill Shuman, Hal Brandon, Pat Nicholson, Leigh Andersen, and Marti Bagarozzi; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, with the Rev Jack Hudson and the Rev. Quentin McArthur officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Hal Brandon, David Nicholson, Dennis Bagarozzi, Kelly Andersen, Bill Shuman, and Sam Supernaw.

Mack Rogers, Jr.
Grady Mack Rogers, Jr., 63, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia. He was a native and lifelong resident of Tattnall County. He attended Manassas United Methodist Church. He was Mayor of Manassas since 1984, past president for Local Union #3290 CWA, past president of Claxton Shrine Club, and a member of Ezel Lodge #335. He was a member of the Air National Guard 165th Materiel Squad. He was a 1958 graduate of Reidsville High School. He was a member of the Reidsville Grand Rascals, the Seaboard Hunting Club, a Board member of the Sapelo Salt Water Fishing Club, and retired from Lucent Technology in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda O. Rogers of Manassas; two sons, Grady Mack Rogers III and Kendall Turner, both of Manassas; three daughters; Tammy Rogers and Rose Marie Morris of Manassas and Tracie Durrence of Glennville; two sisters, Martha Jo McCall and Ona Coleman, both of Bellville; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Page officiating. Burial was at Bay Branch Church Cemetery.

Laura Bell Deal
Laura Bell Deal, 74, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at Wayne Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Bloomingdale for the last 45 years. She was an avid gardener, and a wonderful homemaker. She was a member of Alpha Methodist Church in Bloomingdale, and was preceded in death by her husband, Albert S. Deal.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Jerry and Bonnie Deal and David and Debbie Deal of Brooklet and Randy Deal of Bloomingdale; one sister, Judy Hagan of Savannah; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m Monday, March 22, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Black and the Rev. Billy Stanley officiating. Burial was in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnny Deal, Buddy Deal, Larry Deal, James Deal, Randy Bray, and Gene Coleman.

Novadean Hunt
Novadean Watson Hunt, 74, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Florida, Newington, and Glennville. She was an Avon Representative, a homemaker, and a Baptist.
She is survived by her children: Linda Gail Murphy of Dover, Florida; Vickie Godwin of Newington; David Bargeron of Guyton; Terry Bargeron of Glennville; Tracy Parker of Atlanta; Johnny Parker of Lexington, South Carolina; and Michael Creel of Newington; one sister, Melrose Bargeron of Dover, Florida; one brother, Haven Watson of Coloma, Michigan; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 25, at Carter Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Bargeron officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Robert E. "Bill" Summerford
Robert E. (Bill) "Red Rock” Summerford, 64, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, after a sudden illness. He was a graduate of Bryan County High School, and was recognized as one of the Coastal Empire’s most outstanding two sport athletes. He had a spectacular high school basketball career, starring for legendary coach ‟Red” Bowers. After 47 years, Bill still holds the single game points record at 49 and the tournament points record at 103 at the News Press Christmas Tournament. He was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) where he served as class president. He garnered All-State honors at ABAC and finished his basketball career at Valdosta State College. He is among the State Champions in 1958 and 1959 in the track and field 800-meter race. He was a Merchant Marine and also a teacher and coach in Richmond Hill, Hinesville, Terrell County, Ludowici, and Chatham County. He also retired after 30 years of service as a social worker for the Department of Family and Children Services, as a probation officer with the State of Georgia, and was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gail Smith Summerford; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Angela Summerford of Brunswick; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Mike Bazemore of Lanier and Deedra and Andy Long of Ellabell; his mother-in-law, Mary Smith of Ellabell; and one sister, Toledo Hatcher of Faulkville.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, March 30, at Morrison Funeral Home in Pembroke, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at the Bryan County High School Gymnasium, with Elder Spencer Moore officiating. Interment will be in Black Creek Cemetery.

Louise Palencia
Louise Yell Palencia, 82, died March 23, 2005. The Brewton, Alabama, native had lived in Florida for many years, moving to Glennville six years ago.
She is survived by Louise Hemphill of Maggie Valley, North Carolina; Juanita Yell of Glennville; Bell Yell of Apopka, Florida; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Ron Durrence
Kellis Ronald Durrence, Sr., 64, died March 16, 2005. He was born September 13, 1940, in Glennville, Georgia, to Kellis Duran Durrence and Estelle Stanfield Durrence Swain. He married Esther Frances Horton on August 13, 1960, in Jesup, Georgia. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on July 6, 1962. He is a graduate of Glennville High School and attended South Georgia Vocational Tech for two years. He was employed as a mechanic at Brigham Young University for 30 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Presiding Elder and worked with the Boy Scouts in Glennville, and was the Ward Welfare Clerk in the Spanish Fork 4th Ward. He taught genealogy, and was secretary in the High Priest Quorum. He also served as the ward Employment Specialist in the Spanish Fork 8th Ward.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Marvella Durrence.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Durrence of Spanish Fork; his mother, Estelle Swain of Glennville, Georgia; his children: Kellis (Chantel) Durrence of Mountain Home, Idaho; Melissa (Roger) Faris of American Fork; Kristen (Rex) Johnson of Santaquin; Tiffany (Andy) Boulter of Provo; and 11 grandchildren: Caleb, Nicole, and Cassandra Durrence; LeAnne, Emily, Robert, and Justin Faris; Kellis, Savannah, and Kasen Johnson; and Chloe Boulter; brother and sisters: Patsy (Jack) Flowers of Richmond Hill, Georgia; Elizabeth (Grady) Mixon of Vidalia, Georgia; and Paul (Audrey) Durrence of Riverton.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 21, at the Spanish Fork 8th Ward Chapel, 1006 East 200 South. Interment was in Spanish Fork Cemetery.

James Tommy Bacon, 60, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005. He was a lifelong resident of Long County, and retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #227 of Ludowici, and a member of Pigot Branch Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Lee Bacon.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patsy Love Bacon of Long County; sons and daughter-in-law, Lee and Melba Bacon and Leslie Bacon, all of Long County; grandsons, Jordan and Travis Bacon and David Moody; his mother, Bessie Bacon of Long County; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Margie and Gene Love and Hazel and Roger Todd, all of Allenhurst; Josephine Howser, Joann and David Moody, and Lois and J. W. Martin, all of Long County; Susie McKenzie of Glennville; and Helen and Jerry Hammer of St. Helen, Michigan.

Ila Marelle Allen, 80, died Thursday morning, March 24, 2005, at Tattnall Healthcare Center in Reidsville. The Jackson County native had lived in Winder most of her life before moving to Reidsville 15 months ago. She was a homemaker, and a member of Center Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward McDonald Allen.
She is survived by a daughter, Teresa Maningding of Reidsville; a son, Stanley Allen of Georgia; two sisters, Susie Bledsoe and Gen Maloch, both of Loganville; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at Center Methodist Church in Jackson County. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Willie "Bill" Lee Todd
Willie "Bill” Lee Todd, 89, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at his residence in Richmond Hill after a long illness. He was a native of Screven, Georgia. He had also lived in Glennville for 17 years, Savannah for 23 years, and Richmond Hill for the past 25 years. He was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church. During World War II, he was a ship builder, and later, he was the owner of Todd Construction Company. He was a member of Philadelphia Lodge #73 in Glennville.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Anderson Todd of Richmond Hill; five sons: Raymond Todd of Bulloch County, Bill Todd and Jon Todd of Savannah, Mike Todd of Brunswick, and Steve Todd of Guyton; one daughter, Tammy T. Creasy of Bulloch County; one brother, Clyde Todd of Savannah; one sister, Manor Jane Waters of Glennville; stepchildren, Yancey Anderson and Dawn Clark of Richmond Hill and Pamela Ellis of Jesup; and 16 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel, with the Rev. Ivy Spence officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

Robert Franklin, Jr.
Robert L. Franklin, Jr., 88, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Sandsprings Landing. The Tattnall County native grew up in Glennville and then attended Martha Berry Academy in Rome, Georgia. He later moved to Savannah, Georgia, where he was a painting and wallpaper contractor for over 40 years. He was a member of Cokesberry United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Carmen Byrd Franklin.
He is survived by one daughter, Ann Linton of Savannah; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Barry and Brenda Franklin of Savannah; one granddaughter, Laura Franklin; three grandsons: Robert Linton, Steve Linton, and Glenn Linton, all of Savannah; and one great-grandson, Tyler Linton of Savannah.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, March 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home in Glennville.

Jesse White
Jesse Talmadge White, 88, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, Georgia. The Grady County native had lived in Perry, Florida, before moving to Reidsville, Georgia, in 1950. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and was the former owner of White’s Auto Service. He was a member of Reidsville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Foye Lee White of Reidsville; two daughters, Jerre White Thomson of Dawsonville and Donnie White Henderson of Columbus; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles White of Reidsville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dick Patton. Burial was in Reidsville City Cemetery.

Billy Harvey Blocker, 54, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Tattnall Community Hospital in Reidsville, Georgia. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and had lived in Long County and the Glennville, Georgia, area for the past 32 years. He was a self-employed barber, and a member and the assistant pastor of Life United Pentecostal Church in Hinesville, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Blocker.
He is survived by his wife, Judy L. Blocker of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law, Billy H. Jr. and Gaila Blocker and Joey and Nieves Blocker, all of Glennville; his mother, Marie Blocker of Glennville; three brothers: Bobby Blocker and Jeffery Blocker, Sr., both of Glennville; and Micheal Blocker of Knoxville, Tennessee; three sisters: Willine Todd and Dorothy Branch, both of Glennville; and Betty DeLoach of Anderson, South Carolina; five grandchildren: Alexis, Megan, Amanda, Savannah, and Nicholas, all of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
