William H. "Bill" Long
William H. "Bill" Long, 77, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the VA Hospital in Dublin, Georgia. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but lived in Glennville, Georgia. He was a retired maintenance supervisor, and a veteran. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Boone Long and Essie Williams Long; two brothers, Harold Long and Jim Long; and one sister, Maggie Corbin.
He is survived by his wife, Addie Jean Dampier Long of Glennville; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Robbie and Susan Tillman, Irwin "Ned" and Sheri Tillman, and Kirk Tillman, all of Moultrie, Georgia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Renna and Hal Dasher of Glennville and Alyshia and Stuart Strickland of Moultrie; two sisters, Cora Hagan of Savannah, Georgia, and Lettie Lou Willingham of Chattanooga, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren: William "Logan" Eli Strickland, Jordan Dasher, Morgan Dasher, Paige Tillman, Johnathan Tillman, Jonah Tillman, Josey Tillman, Jesse Tillman, Kristen Collins, Collen Strickland, and Kellen Copeland; and one great-grandchild, Keenan Croft.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home in Moultrie, Georgia, officiated by the Rev. Steve Posey.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Charles Johnson
Comer "Charles” Johnson, Jr., 59, died Saturday night, April 2, 2005, at the Savannah Hospice House. The Broward County, North Carolina, native had lived in Jacksonville, Florida, for many years, moving to Midway seven years ago. He was a supervisor with Chemtall, Inc., in Riceboro. He was affiliated with Friendship Baptist Church in Midway. He was preceded in death by his parents, Comer C. Johnson and Sadie Beazley; and a brother, James "Richard” Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Johnson of Midway; one daughter, Betty Motter of Jacksonville, Florida; one stepdaughter, Michelle Wells of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; one stepson, Christopher Inch of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Doris McAbee of Gary, Indiana, and Linda Wochholz of Jacksonville, Florida; two brothers, Robert Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jerry Johnson of Morgantown, West Virginia; one granddaughter; one grandson; two step-granddaughters; two step-grandsons; three nephews; and four nieces.
Memorial funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Friendship Baptist Church in Midway, with Pastor Neal Smith officiating.

Joe Barrow, Sr.
Joe Barrow, Sr., died April 2, 2005, in Memorial Health University Medical Center. The native of Bulloch County had resided in Evans County most of his life. He was a deacon, trustee, and member of Liberty Fellowship Church of God of Prophecy. He was a longtime local painting contractor. He retired from the Armed Services with 22 years served in the U. S. Air Force and the Georgia Army National Guard, serving during the Korean War and in Operation Desert Storm.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Alberta B. Barrow of Claxton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Joseph C. Barrow, Jr., and wife, Susan, of St. Simons Island, and Tim and Renee Barrow of Hagan; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Ken Seiber of Claxton; two brothers, Garland Barrow of Wrightsville and Jimmy Barrow of Lyons; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mamie (Pete) Rewis of Claxton and Sue and Larry West of Claxton; two sisters-in-law, Delores and Laverne Barrow, both of Claxton; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, at Liberty Fellowship Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP). Burial was in Emmaus Cemetery.

Nell Whitlow
Nell Curry Whitlow, 81, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Pulaski County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a homemaker, a member of the Glennville Public Library Board, and a member of Glennville First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, X. L. Whitlow.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Bo Davis of Savannah; sons and daughter-in-law: Bill and Darlene Whitlow and Mike Whitlow, all of Glennville; and Bob Whitlow of Shellman Bluff; a sister-in-law, Lois Curry of Glennville; three grandchildren: Kelly Mellick, Jason Whitlow, and Brad Whitlow; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 1, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Bubba Burkhalter, Harry Sikes, Charles Burkhalter, Ken Rogers, Jeremy Anderson, and Glen Curry.

Jahnz J. Ulmer
Jahnz J. Ulmer, 71, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville. He was born in Dublin, Georgia, living in Jacksonville and New York for many years, moving back to Glennville in 1970. He was formerly employed with Rotary Mower Corporation of Glennville, and attended Heritage Baptist Church.
He is survived by a brother, Frank M. Ulmer of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Herring officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Blocker, Joe Blocker, Jack Blocker, Terrell Blocker, Jerry Blocker, and Gerald Blocker.

Mack Phillips
Mack Phillips, 93, died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life, retiring from the timber industry. He was a member of the Alee Shrine Temple, and Philadelphia Lodge #73 where he was past Worshipful Master, and was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye Phillips of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law: Billy and Ginny Phillips of Thomaston; Dewey and Kathy Edwards of Gainesville; and Monty and Debra Edwards and Greg Edwards, all of Baxley; daughters and son-in-law, Sue and Wayne Renew of Guyton and Linda DeLoach of Glennville; one brother and sister-in-law, F. E. ‟Pike” and Edythe Phillips of Glennville; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery, with Masonic graveside services.

Maude Durden
Maude Fordham Durden, 87, of Swainsboro, Georgia, died Friday morning, April 8, 2005, at Bethany Home Nursing Home in Vidalia, Georgia. She was a native of Bulloch County, but had lived in Swainsboro for the past 59 years. She was a homemaker, and a member of Antioch Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Rudy and Mary Durden of Jacksonville, Florida, and Elder Mickey and Sylvia Durden of Oak Park, Georgia; one daughter, Lilla and Pat Patterson of Glennville; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder John Shelton Mikell officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Don Fordham, Clisby Fordham, Jerry Fordham, Burney Fordham, Loche Fordham, and Carlyle McCorkle.

Sidney Wright
Deacon Sidney Wright died March 25, 2005. He was born April 28, 1930, to the late Horace and Sally Lowery Wright in Aberdeen, North Carolina. He served in the U. S. Army where he served in the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and Merit Unit Commendation.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Smith; children: Sidney L. Wright (Diana), Denese Raulerson, Velinda Sturgis (Joseph), Karen Cohen (Ronald), Susan Anderson (Bernard), Anglier Wright, Brenda Oliver (William), and Tanglier Newell (Samuel); five brothers: Horace Wright (Pat) of St. Paul, North Carolina; Glen Wright of Lambertville New Jersey; Laverne Wright of Callahan, Florida; Sellars Wright (Alma) of Austin, Texas; and Ernest Wright of Patterson, New Jersey; four sisters: Olivia Ringwood of Dublin, Georgia; Susie M. Williams, Margaret Wright, and Novella King (Ruben) of Glennville, Georgia; one brother and two sisters, who preceded him in death: Herman Wright, Edna Edwards, and Martha Lane; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, in Jacksonville, Florida.
Alma Sikes
Alma Louise Beck Buttersworth Sikes, 73, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center in Fort Gordon. The Bulloch County native had lived in Savannah 38 years, living in Vidalia for 7 years before moving to Collins in 1991. She was employed with Savannah Christian Prep School for five years. She was a longtime member of Chevis Oaks Baptist Church in Savannah where she was a choir member and youth choir director.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John A. Buttersworth, Sr.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. James W. Sikes of Collins; three sons and two daughters-in-law: John Buttersworth, Jr., of Pooler; Bill and Donna Buttersworth of Midway; and Joe and Linda Buttersworth of Thunderbolt; three daughters and sons-in-law: Arlene and Kevin Carter of Rincon; Judy and Bob Smith of Sylvania; and Debbie and Jeff Lindblad of Garden City; one stepson and wife, Kenny and Kathy Sikes of Bloomingdale; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home in Reidsville. Interment was in Northside Cemetery in Pembroke.

Norman Rogers
Norman Rogers, 68, died Friday evening, April 2, 2004, at the Riverside Care Home in Bainbridge. The Tattnall County native had lived in Claxton most of his life. He was retired from Georgia Southern University.
He is survived by one brother, Gillis Rogers of Bainbridge; two sisters, Earline Paris of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Joanne Crites of Okeechobee, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, at the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home in Reidsville, officiated by the Rev. Lawrence Jarriel. Interment was in Harden’s Chapel Cemetery in Toombs County.

Doc Teston, 83, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Tattnall Community Hospital. He lived in Liberty County many years, moving to Reidsville 20 years ago. He retired from the City of Hinesville, and was a member of Come As You Are Ministries.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Joyce C. Teston of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Tom Elliott. Interment was in Elim Baptist Church Cemetery in Long County.

Elizabeth S. Brown, 66, died Friday afternoon, April 2, 2004, at her residence under the care of her family after a long battle with cancer. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She retired from Glenvue Nursing Home, working many years as a licensed practical nurse. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Kenneth Brown, and her son, Fred Brown.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannette and Kelly Fox of Atlanta and Susan and Frank Simpson of Uvalda; five sons and two daughters-in-law: Charles K. L. Brown of Reidsville; Barry and Laura Brown of Lyons; Kelly and Katharine Brown of Statesboro; Wilbur Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Walter Brown of Atlanta; two sisters, Sylvia Van Giesen of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Alice Smith of Blackshear; three brothers: Willie Lee Smith of Athens; Sylvester Smith, Jr., of Reidsville; and Lester R. Smith of Waynesboro; 11 grandchildren: Kevin and Kristen Fox; Nancy Mabry; Bobby and Frank Simpson, Jr.; and Alicia, Josha, Mirran, Holden, Josh, and Montana Brown; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ethel Merle Morgan, 78, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at the Savannah Hospice House. The Samson, Alabama, native lived in Manassas many years, moving to Jesup several years ago. She was a homemaker, and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Morgan.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, the Rev. J. Michael and Janice Morgan of Jesup and Robert Allen Morgan of Tennessee; two sisters, Grace Powell of Manassas and Ella Ree Rogers of Swainsboro; five grandchildren: Josh Morgan of Jacksonville; Brittany Beverley and Bryan Hires of Jesup; Capelle Morgan of Tennessee; and Melissa Blanton of Screven; four great-grandchildren: Taylor Blanton, Brooks Blanton, Brittany Blanton, and Seth Hires.

Lola Todd
Lola Grace “Tinker” Iddins Todd, 85, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was surrounded by her family. She was born December 22, 1918, to Leonard and Alma Iddins and lived in Glennville all her life. She was known for her love of family, friends, flowers, outdoors, and her special chicken-n-dumplings cooked on her wood-burning stove. She was a homemaker, and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arie Todd, and son, Scotty Todd.
She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Fran and Bill Flury and Robin Todd Holton of Glennville and Fay Chalker of Brooklet; a brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Joan Iddins of Atlanta; sisters and brothers-in-law: Catherine and John Welch, Clara and Jack Welch, Thelma and Vernon Cowart, and Sue Nell Stanfield, all of Reidsville; sisters-in law, Ruby Iddins and Lavern Iddins; a special family friend, Dean Stubbs; grandchildren: Kim and Tim Freeman, Bryant and Leigh Flury, and Shannon and Janet Flury; great-grandchildren: Ariel and Scott Flury and Anna and Joshua Freeman; three special cousins, Debbie and Sam Iddins and Cleo Chonko; and several nieces, nephews, and other cousins.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Wilford Harden officiating. Burial was private in the Todd Family Cemetery.
