Mary Horton
Mary Hess Horton, 85, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Bethany Home for Ladies in Vidalia, Georgia. The Oglethorpe County native had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a retired seamstress, homemaker, and a member of Conners Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Nadine Wilkinson of Baker, Louisiana; three sisters: Nell Bowen of Langley, South Carolina, and Sybil Coleman and Betty Williams, both of Cobbtown, Georgia; one brother, Billy Hess of Cobbtown; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Carter Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Cedar Creek Church Cemetery in Cobbtown.

Vera Dunham
Vera Blocker Dunham, 74, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born in Coffee County and lived in Tattnall and Long counties most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of Jones Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughters and a son-in-law, Veralyn Boyd and Carolyn Revels of Ludowici, Georgia, and Gwendolyn and Ronnie Butts of Claxton, Georgia; a son and daughter-in-law, George W. III and Sherri Dunham of Glennville, Georgia; sisters and a brother-in-law, Gean Gumm, Myrtle Lee Futch, Grace Mithum, and Eunice and Jack DuRose, all of Glennville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Jones Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were deacons of Jones Creek Baptist Church.
Remembrances can be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P. O. Box 531, Statesboro, Georgia 30459.

Joseph Herrington

Joseph Durell Herrington, 61, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at his residence in South Carolina. He was born November 29, 1942, in Tattnall County, Georgia, and was a son of the late Joseph Richard Herrington and Ruby Lee Stubbs Herrington. He was a distributor with Trader Publishing, and was a member of Smoaks Church of God of Prophecy.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Crosby Herrington of Walterboro; a daughter, Cassandra Prater of Walterboro; five sons: Joseph Michael Herrington of Lake City, South Carolina; and Alvin E. “Buddy” Prater, Don D. Herrington, Steven Herrington, and Jason E. Prater, all of Walterboro; one brother, Pat Herrington of Glennville; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, in the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Walterboro. Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, in the Glennville City Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia.
Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, P. O. Box 7275, Columbia, South Carolina, 29202-9649.
Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel, in Walterboro, South Carolina, was in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret B. Bagley

Margaret B. Bagley, 74, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Hardee County, Florida, and was reared in Savannah. She lived the past 56 years in Hinesville. She served 16 years as Assistant Tax Commissioner in Liberty County. She was a charter member of First Presbyterian Church in Hinesville and also served as a Sunday School teacher. She was an avid golfer, and a charter member of Cherokee Rose Country Club. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Barrell.
She is survived by her husband, Frank R. Bagley of Hinesville; two daughters and three sons-in-law: Brenda and Robert Zelazny of West Palm Beach, Florida; Mollie and Martin Poffenberger of Peachtree City, Georgia; and Fred Barrell of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 9, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Tom Mueller officiating. Burial was in Oglethorpe Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers were Mark Griffin, Richie Braun, Dicky Braun, Frank Barrell, Fred Barrell IV, and Joseph W. Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were the men and women of First Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

George Lynn

George Donald Lynn, 51, died Sunday morning, April 11, 2004, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The Morgan Town, Tennessee, native lived in Vidalia many years, moving to Hoboken several years ago. He was employed with Care Transport Company. He is preceded in death by his mother, Margie Teston Lynn.
He is survived by a special friend, Vicky Harris of Hoboken; his father and stepmother, David Clyde and Nan Lynn of Vidalia; a stepsister, Rita Oliver of Reidsville; three stepbrothers: Jimmy Trull, Kenneth Trull, and Ricky Trull, all of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marion Patton officiating. Interment was in Pinecrest Cemetery in Vidalia.
Pallbearers were Bruce Oliver, John Mock, Danny Todd, Jamie Wilson, Billy Jones, and John Bratcher.

Mamie Curtis

Mamie Strickland Carris, 95, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Liberty County native had lived most of her life in Tattnall County. She was a retired bookkeeper for several local businesses, and was a Baptist.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m Monday, April 12, in Glennville City Cemetery, with Bro. Daine Bazemore officiating.

Felix A. Smith

Felix Arthur Smith, 72, of Lyons died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at his residence after a sudden illness. He was a native of Toombs County, living there for 59 years; was a truck driver with R. L. Cato; and was a member of Lyons Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebie James Smith.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Felix Wayne and Sophia Smith of Lyons; Donald James and LeeAnn Smith of Glennville; and Sammy Eugene and Sherri Smith of Leesburg; three sisters: Isabell Harden of Lyons, JoAnne Smith of Gray, and Imogene Kersey of Kentucky; three brothers: Venson Smith of Conyers, Pat Smith of Pembroke, and Frank Smith of Portal; four grandsons: Felix Duane Smith and wife, Becky, of Reidsville and Christopher A. Smith and Tucker and Tye Smith of Leesburg; three great-grandchildren: Drew, Ammiee, and Hunter Smith, all of Reidsville; four sisters-in-law: Jackie Meeks, Robie Haines, Hattie Mae James, and Marie Meeks; two brothers-in-law, Jessie James and wife, Willie, of South Carolina and Junior Caraway of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 20, at 3 p.m. at Lyons Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Wilson officiating. Interment was in Hardens Chapel Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Junior Turner, David Usher, Randy Usher, Michael Caraway, Tommy Huelett, and Jim Gillis.
Honorary pallbearers were men of the Lyons Free Will Baptist Church.
Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

John W. Porter, Jr.

John W. Porter, Jr., 62, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Carl Vinson Medical Center in Dublin. The Louisiana native had lived in Glennville for the past 20 years, retiring from the U. S. Army with 22 years of service. He served in Vietnam as a Medical Specialist with the 101st Airborne where he received numerous medals and commendations to include the Valorous Unit Citation, Presidential Meritorious Unit Commendation, and a Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Jefferson Memorial College, a DOD Police officer at Ft. Stewart, a member of the NRA, a member of the Sons of the Confederacy, and an avid gun collector. He was in the movie, Horse Soldiers, with John Wayne.
He is survived by special friends: Shanna Waters, Joe E. Davis, Darwin Stubbs, Madison, and Allison, all of Glennville; and cousins, Judy Spellman and Bob Andrews of St. Louis, Missouri.
Funeral services, with full military honors, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Dr. Lionel R. DeLoach

Dr. Lionel R. DeLoach, 81, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in Guadalajara, Mexico. He was born May 15, 1923, in Hinesville to the Rev. Wesley C. and Cora Bacon DeLoach. He was a World War II veteran with the Army Corps of Engineers, honorably discharged in 1944. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1956 with a Doctorate of Agronomy degree. After graduation, he went to work in 1957 with British American Tobacco Company in Mexico where he lived and worked until 1984, retiring as Managing Director of British American Tobacco Mexico Leaf Operations. He was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Glennville.
He is survived by his wife, Socorro C. DeLoach of Glennville; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah D. and Richard Zuniga of Artesia, New Mexico, and Cyndi D. and James Rogers of Eastman; sons and daughters-in-law: Lionel R., Jr., and Claudia DeLoach of Richmond, Virginia; Rodney and Lil DeLoach of Glennville; and Kenny and Toni DeLoach of Pfafftown, North Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Edward Collins of Belvedere, South Carolina; eight grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with Father Brian LaBurt and the Rev. Travis Cowart officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Wayne Easterling, Jonathan Collins, Pat Easterling, Bob Collins, David Easterling, and Gerald DeLoach.
Honorary pallbearers were Jackie Dasher, Dwight Cason, and Tony Barbour.
Remembrances can be made to St. Christopher-Sandhill Catholic Church Construction Fund, P. O. Box 820, Glennville, Georgia 30427.

Foye White

Foye White, 89, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Perry, Florida, native had lived in Reidsville since 1951. She was a member of Reidsville Baptist Church, and was a former seamstress and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tal White.
She is survived by two daughters, Jerre White Thomson of Dawsonville and Donnie White Henderson of Columbus; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Reidsville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Burial was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jackie Henderson, Larry Brown, Billy Eason, Louis Cowart, George Jones, and Jimmy Earnest.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Collins, C. Brown, Danny Waller, Tom Colvin, Bobby "Tiny” Anderson, and Jack Bodiford.

Mary E. Rogers

Mary E. Sikes Rogers, 62, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Candler Hospital inSavannah. The Evans County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a 1960 graduate of Claxton High School, and retired from Civil Service
at Ft. Stewart. She was a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank and Juanita Sikes, and a grandson, Josh Rogers.
She is survived by her husband, Derrell Rogers of Glennville; three sons: Tommy Rogers and Dell Rogers of Glennville and Jeff Rogers of Atlanta; one sister, Frankette Bain of Yulee, Florida; three brothers: Charles Sikes of Blackshear, Tommy Sikes of Hortense, and Donald Sikes of Fitzgerald; four grandchildren: Tiffany Rogers, Mindy Rogers, Alannah Rogers, and Travis Rogers; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with Elders Lindy Webb, Marvin Paulk, and Tom Sollosi officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were David Rogers, Charlie Sikes, Scott Rogers, Jimmy Dean Sikes, Charlton Rogers, and Frank Sikes.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Claxton High School Class of 1960 and members of Kings Construction crew.

Larry Martin
Larry Wayne Martin, 48, died Saturday, April 20, 2002. The Tattnall County native was a U. S. Army veteran. He was previously employed by the Georgia Forestry Commission and Canoochee EMC, and was presently employed by B&B Enterprises of Hagan. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Franklin Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Martin of Reidsville, Georgia; one daughter and son-in-law, Tabatha and Jimmy Bruner of Claxton, Georgia; one son, Larry Wayne Martin, Jr., of Reidsville; one sister, Jacqueline Friend of Reidsville; five brothers: J. W. Martin of Long County; Bobby Martin of Texas; Eugene Martin of Tattnall County; and Ronald Martin and Earl Martin of Indiana; three grandchildren: Brandon Bruner, Walt Bruner, and Alexis Martin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 23, 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with the Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Burial was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carl Cowart, Tommy Rolls, Mike Thompson, Chris Bargeron, Ronnie Rogers, and Allejandro Sosa.

Joye Knight
Joye Edmonds Knight, 93, died Thursday, April 11, 2002. Born November 8, 1908, in Toccoa, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Nelson and Annie Busha Edmonds and lived in Toccoa until 1960. She was a homemaker, and a member of Harmony United Methodist Church in Glennville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston W. Knight; brothers William Edmonds and Sanford Edmonds; and a sister, Ada Edmonds Honea, all of Toccoa.
She is survived by three nephews: William B. and Virginia Edmonds of Gainesville, Georgia; Dale Honea of Atlanta, Georgia; and John Edmonds of Toccoa; two nieces, Mary Ann and Don Lisenbee of Savannah, Georgia, and Jan and Jerry Gailey of Gainesville; two great-nieces, Caroline McMillan of Statesboro, Georgia, and Suzanne Coyle of Triangle, Virginia; two great-great-nieces, Chandler McMillan and Madison Coyle; one great-great-nephew, Colton McMillan; a sister-in-law, Wilma Edmonds of Toccoa; and several cousins, including David Carter of Surrency.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. James M. Holland officiating. Burial was in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Appling County.
Pallbearers were Edward Driggers, Pete Blocker, J. B. Durrence, Princeton Pirkle, Avon Ray, and Jerry W. Burkhalter.
