Sheila McCoy
Sheila McCoy, 45, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at her residence following a long illness. She was a native of Toombs County and had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a member of Abundant Faith Fellowship, and a homemaker.
She is survived by her father, Donald Thigpen of Gainesville, Florida; her mother, Jeanette Lynn of Reidsville, Georgia; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Amy Brown of Vidalia, Georgia, and James Kirkland of Reidsville; two sisters, Teila Toole and Veila Powell, both of Reidsville; one half sister, Margie Hicks of Florida; three brothers: Dennis Sapp of Reidsville; Wendell McCoy of Claxton, Georgia; and Charles Greer of Glennville; two half brothers, James Thigpen and David Thigpen, both of Florida; and one godgrandchild, Kaleigh Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 16, at 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with the Rev. Lester Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Oliver, Tony Willis, Walter Driggers, Dustin Meeks, Chris Davis, Justin Powell, and Marty Mabey.

Reginald Tapley
Reginald Tapley, 83, of Norristown, Georgia, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Emanuel County, a World War II Army veteran, retired from J. P. Stevens, and a member of Norristown Baptist Church. He was the husband of the late Katherine Tapley.
He is survived by two daughters, Diane Quick of Glennville, Georgia, and Fredette Drake of Milledgeville, Georgia; two sisters, Betty Tapley of Norristown, Georgia, and Peggy Rich of Swainsboro, Georgia; one brother, Kenneth Tapley of Norristown, Georgia; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary, with the Rev. Hal Wilson and the Rev. Earl Robinson officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near Norristown, Georgia.
Pallbearers were Doc Palmer, Neal Brown, Bruce Spearman, Brian Frederick, Pete Bailey, and Lyn Thompson.

April J. Hamilton
April Jean Hamilton, 31, died Thursday, May 12, 2005. She lived most of her life in Ft. Madison, Iowa, having moved to Long County in 2004. She was a correctional officer at Smith State Prison, and a member of Walthourville Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Emily Lauber of Harlem, Georgia; her mother, Vonda Colyer of Harlem, Georgia; her father, Johnny M. Hamilton of Aiken, South Carolina; a brother, Kristopher Bowen of Grovetown, South Carolina; her grandmother, Myria Rogers of Ludowici, Georgia; her grandfather, Truman Moody of Ludowici; her fiancé, Joel Davis of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; two aunts, Brenda McGahee of Ludowici and Mildred Verkey of North Augusta, South Carolina; uncles: Randy (Kelly) Colyer and Lyndal (Christina) Colyer of Ft. Madison, Iowa; Randy Hamilton of North Augusta, South Carolina; and Conrad (Ann) Hamilton of Langley, South Carolina; and several cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Walthourville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Shirley Middleton officiating. Burial was in Concord Cemetery in Long County.
Pallbearers were Johnny Hamilton, Dale Nobles, Irby Moody, Charles Moody, Christopher Johnson, and Jason Scott.

Hubert A. Lynn
Hubert A. Lynn, 77, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Pierce County native was a U. S. Marine veteran, and a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. He had lived in Glennville since 1982, and was the owner and operator of Chic-King Restaurants in Hazlehurst and Eastman.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Lynn of Glennville; daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Howard Powell of Jesup, Peggy and James Brown of Atlanta, and Candice L. and Daniel Hughes of Glennville; one son, Hubert A. Lynn, Jr., of Eastman; one brother, Bobby Lynn of Jacksonville, Florida; ten grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Watermelon Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Brannen, David Cammack, Brian Blocker, Billy Conley, Danny Ray, Paul Dutton, Sam Joseph, and Danny Hughes.

Gladys Nail
Gladys Alexander Nail, 88, died Monday, May 9, 2005, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all her life. She was a nurse with Dr. Jelks’ Clinic for many years. She served as a Pink Lady at Tattnall Memorial Hospital, and was a member of the Reidsville VFW Auxiliary. She was a member of Reidsville Baptist Church and the J.O.Y. Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow E. Nail; her parents, Bill and Bessie Alexander; a sister, Marlene Scott; and five brothers: Carlos Alexander, Lent Alexander, Dolvin Alexander, S. P. Alexander, and Fred Alexander.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and Jack Hill of Reidsville and Karen and Stan Hill of Richmond Hill; a son and daughter-in-law, Woody and Alice Nail of Charlotte, North Carolina; four granddaughters: Michelle Pfeiffer, Amy McGee, Dawn Kullberg, and Jennifer Stanger; three grandsons: Matt Hill, Lance Hill, and Sean Hill; six great-great granddaughters; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at Reidsville Baptist Church. Interment was held in Reidsville City Cemetery.

Beulah Olinger
Beulah Marie Barrett Olinger, 77, died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at her daughter’s residence in Glennville after an extended illness. She was born in Saltville, Virginia, living there most of her life. She was retired from the furniture manufacturing industry, and a member of Mountain View First Church of God in Saltville.
She is survived by daughters and son in-law, Teresa and Donnie Epperson of Glennville and Della Campbell of Marin, Virginia; a brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Mary Barrett of Saltville; a sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Tommy Wright of Marin; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, Virginia. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Saltville.

Gordon Oliver, Jr.
Gordon Oliver, Jr., 65, died Monday, May 16, 2005. He had lived most of his life in Tattnall County, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in law, Tina and Danny Dinkins of Ludowici; a son and daughter-in law, Sam and Olga Oliver of Glennville; his mother, Louise S. Oliver of Glennville; and two grandchildren, Alexis Oliver of Glennville and Taylor Dinkins of Ludowici.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Cobb Funeral Home in Glennville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial will be in Glennville City Cemetery.

James H. Strickland
James H. (J. H.) Strickland, 87, died May 12, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Evans County native lived in Savannah for a number of years before retiring and moving back to Evans County. He was a pilot in the Air Force during World War II where he flew helicopters until his retirement. He was a State maintenance officer of the Army Air National Guard. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Bacon Strickland of Claxton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Doreen Strickland of Savannah; two stepdaughters and son in-law, Patsy and Andy Anderson of Rincon and Penny Mixon of Savannah; one brother and sister-in-law, Aubrey and Gwen Strickland of Claxton; two grandchildren, Joshua and Emily Strickland of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14, at First United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Creig Hutto and the Rev. Ernest Gordy. Burial was in Brewton Cemetery.

Doug Strickland
Doug Strickland, 62, died Saturday evening, May 1, 2004, at his residence under hospice care. The Evans County native had lived in Reidsville most of his life. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections and the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Department.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca C. Moore Strickland of Reidsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Dusty and Keith Durrence of Glennville; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Reika Strickland of Reidsville; three stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law: Glemia and Terry Dalton, Emily and Osmound Kidd, and Lynselle and Darrell Kidd, all of Kentucky; and one stepdaughter, Jacky Stansberry and Clayton Smith; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Gary Gamble and Darrell and Allison Gamble, all of Kentucky; one sister, Rita Lake (Harry) of Tybee Island; one brother, Bobby Strickland (Faye) of Claxton; two grandchildren, Sydney and Slater Durrence of Glennville; 11 step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment was in Bull Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Evans County.
Active pallbearers were the Georgia State Prison Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Department, Georgia State Patrol, and Reidsville Police Department.

Marcus J. McCall
Marcus J. McCall, 53, passed away Friday morning, April 30, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins many years until recently, moving to Lyons. He was employed with Trance Company of Vidalia as a machine operator. He was a member of Collins First Baptist church, and was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn McCall.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Winge McCall of Lyons; two sons and daughter-in-law, Josh McCall of New York City and Chad and Debbie McCall of Oregon; a stepson, Shane Roberson of Lyons; his parents, Julian and Ruby McCall of Collins; two brothers, John McCall of Macon and Terrell McCall of Blackshear; a granddaughter; a step-grandson, Jordan Robinson; and two nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home in Reidsville, officiated by Pastor Don Gibbs. Interment was in Collins First Baptist Church Cemetery.

William Sanders
William H. “W. C” Sanders, 74, died April 22, 2004 at his residence. He was born January 23, 1930. He was last employed at Rotary Corporation, but was retired. He was Chairman of the deacon board of New Fellowship Baptist Church on Hwy. 23 in Reidsville, where he was also Sunday School Superintendent, Assistant Bible Study teacher, and a member of the weekly prayer group.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Almeda Akins Sanders; one daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Freddie Hicks; two grandchildren, Yvette and Freddie Hicks III “Trey”; three sisters: Irene Hills, Laura Mitchell (W. J. Mitchell), and Lucille Sanders, all of Glennville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Simon (Mary Ann) Sanders and Joe (Janice) Sanders of Glennville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. April 25, at New Fellowship Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. William Miller. Interment was in Memorial Gardens in Glennville.
Francisca Hernandez
Francisca Hernandez, 36, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The native of Mexico was employed by Bland Farms, and was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Hermelando Arellano; three daughters: Beatriz, Disnery, and Perla, all of Long County; two sons, Luis and Ever of Long County; five sisters; three brothers; and one grandchild.
Funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, with Father Richard Young officiating. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Judge James E. Findley
Judge James Emory Findley died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at his home on Wandering Ridge Farm in Collins after a long illness. The Toombs County native was born on April 13, 1926. His parents were Milton Estus and Maude Lee Ansley Findley. The World War II veteran was a graduate of Savannah High School, Armstrong College, and Emory University School of Law. He practiced law in Savannah and Claxton. He was a judge of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit from 1976 to 1994. He served as president of the Council of Superior Court Judges and was senior judge from 1995 until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Dantzler Findley of Collins; five children: Cheryl Hodge of Savannah, Cynthia D’Angelo of Statesboro, Rebecca Strickland of Claxton, James E. Findley of the U. S. Air Force, and E. Trent Findley of Ellabell; several grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey D. Findley of Sunbury and Harry Findley of Cobbtown; several nieces and nephews, including Greg Findley of Pelham and Tim Findley of Gray; two goddaughters, Cleveland Craig Hampson of Albany and Collins Craig Lee of McDonough; and one great-goddaughter, Mary Claire Lee of McDonough.
Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Vidalia, Georgia.
