Dan C. Bland

Dan C. Bland, 64, of Ludowici, Georgia, died Monday, June 13, 2005, after a short illness. The Liberty County, Georgia, native had lived in Long County most of his life. He was a member of Tibet Baptist Church, and was a retired Forest Ranger.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn M. Bland of Ludowici; three daughters: Cindy Walker of Glennville, Crystal Hollingsworth of Bellville, and Dannette Holland of Ludowici; four stepdaughters: Carol Simmons of Ludowici, Tina Privett and Missy Counts of Jesup, and Tabitha Beaver of Odum; three sisters: Wanda Futch, Betty Smiley, and Joyce Harris, all of Ludowici; one brother, Henry Bland of Hinesville; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Weldon and the Rev. Robert Long officiating. Interment was in Rye Patch Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Red DeLoach, Earl Austin, Nickey Wells, Clay Harris, Tommy Howard, and Lamar Poole.
Honorary pallbearers were employees of Georgia Forestry and the men of Tibet Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Tibet Baptist Church, P. O. Box 333, Ludowici, Georgia 31316.

Laura Mitchell

Laura Agnes Sanders Mitchell, 73, died Friday, June 10, 2005. She was the daughter of William Henry (Joe) Sanders, Sr., and Etta B. Daisy Hall Sanders. She attended Ludowici Elementary School. She was baptized at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church, Ludowici, Georgia. She later moved to Glennville, Georgia, and was joined in holy matrimony to Willie J. Mitchell on June 8, 1957, and later united with First African Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a member and choir member.
She was the mother of six children; one preceded her in death. She is survived by her devoted husband, Willie J. Mitchell of Glennville; one daughter, Karen (Dan) Singleton of Glennville; four sons: Kenny and Alfred Mitchell (Lynn) of Glennville; Nash DeWayne Mitchell (Ingrid) of Hinesville; Paul Mitchell of Beaufort, South Carolina; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Junior Sanders (Janice) and Simon Sanders (Mary Ann), both of Glennville; five sisters: Irene (Noah) Hill and Lucille Sanders; three preceded her in death: Mary (Jennis) Strickland, Corene White and Geneva Sanders; sister-in-law, Almeda Sanders of Glennville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 15, at 1 p.m. at First African Baptist Church in Glennville, with the Rev. Martin Bacon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were her nephews: Orlan Strickland, Robert Sanders, Samuel Hill, Marvin Hill, Antonio Strickland, and Michael Hill.
Honorary pallbearers were Maxwell Smith, David and Daniel Smith, and deacons from various churches.

Freddie Conner

Freddie Conner, 75, died June 6, 2005, at Glenvue Nursing Home. He was born February 15, 1930, in Tattnall County to the late Jonah Conner and the late Mary Collins Conner. He was a resident of Tattnall County, and was united in marriage with the late Lula Mae Conner. He worked for Barney Baxter for many years of his life before entering retirement. He attended and was a member of Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by an aunt, Edwin Graham (Aunt Media, who is 103 years old); three sisters: Carol Belle Harris of Miami, Florida; Willie Pearl Conner of Glennville, Georgia; and Christine Hostick of Trenton, New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Annie-Ruth Walker of Glennville; two brothers, Dovel Conner of Glennville and J. C. Conner of Trenton, New Jersey; a friend, Mary E. Butler; children: Bobby Williams of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Alfreda Harris, Linda Gail Harris, Angeline Bell, Daphine Conner, Harry Conner, and Leon Conner, all of Glennville; and Jennifer M. Suarez of Reidsville, Georgia; 29 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville, with the Rev. Ottis Carswell, Jr., officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren: Tony O. Harris; Johnny Lee Conner Jr.; Ernest Lee Harris Jr.; Kenneth Lee Harris; Latron Lee Harris; and Tyrell Grant.

Wayne Burkhalter

Wayne Burkhalter, 55, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at a V. A. Medical Center in Augusta. The Effingham County native had lived in Glennville all his life. He was a U. S. Army veteran, a former Tattnall County deputy sheriff, and self-employed in the auto body repair business.
He is survived by daughters and a son-in-law, Stacy and Jim Stanfield and Tanya Johnson, all of Glennville; one son, Lester ‟Bubba” Rogers, Jr., of Glennville; one brother, Derrell Burkhalter of Glennville; five grandchildren: Taylor Stanfield, Jacob Stanfield, Austin Johnson, Dylan Rogers, and Logan Stanfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Lewis Cobb officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Burkhalter, James Hill, Adam Burkhalter, Scott Blake, Ernest Stanfield, and Kelvin Futch.

Judy C. Barton

Judy C. Barton, 59, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at her residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Sentinel, Oklahoma, native had lived in Nevada for many years, moving to Glennville, Georgia, three years ago. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, Gary L. Barton of Glennville; children: Kevin and Mardiy Farley, Bradi Kopf, and Ashlee Williams, all of Glennville; Frankie D. Williams of Utah; and Amy Minogue of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters: Brenda Freand of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Betsy Whitefield of Glennville; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville. Burial was private.

Mildred Weitman
Mildred Moore Weitman, 88, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of Glennville First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Reed and Margaret Durrence, both of Glennville; one sister, Elizabeth Jones of Lakeland, Florida; one brother, Fred Moore of Jacksonville, Florida; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Austin, Derek Bland, Jack Wilson, Willie Joe Kicklighter, Keith Love, and Dustin Wilson.

Ulis Holder
Ulis Holder, 75, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at his residence in Glennville, Georgia, under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Kennett, Missouri, native had lived in Glennville the past several months. He was a U. S. Navy veteran; retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Zion, Illinois; and a Christian.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen H. and Bill Cox of Glennville; one son, John L. Holder of Carbondale, Illinois; one brother, Bob Holder of Everett, Missouri; two sisters, Loveda Mansfield of Burton, Missouri, and Elnora Tanzyus of Springfield, Illinois; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Oakridge Cemetery in Kennett, Missouri.

Lemma Parker
Lemma Wells Parker, 100, of Ludowici, Georgia, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, in the Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Ludowici after an extended illness. The Gilmer County native and former resident of Wayne County had lived in Ludowici most of her life, and was a former public school teacher. She was a member of Jones Creek Baptist Church and the Mary Parker Sunday School Class, and a member of the Long County Garden Club. She was the widow of J. E. "Jim" Parker, Jr.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ida and Ryle Tatum of Statesboro, Georgia, and JoAnna and Bill Guthrie, Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Ann E. Parker of Ludowici; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, from the Jones Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Stokes and the Rev. Ted Hopkins officiating. Interment was in Jones Creek Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were grandsons: J. Greg Parker, Jack E. Parker, Kyle Tatum, Reid Tatum, Kent Tatum, and William Guthrie, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were caregivers: June Moody, Lucille Miller, Mary Milton, Lula Theus, Marjorie Branch, Cara Boyd, Grace Altman, Cheryl Wright, Lisa Williams, Carolyn Carroll, and Nina Williams; and the Mary Parker Sunday School Class of Jones Creek Baptist Church.

Inese Hall

Inese Hall, 78, died Friday, June 17, 2005. She was the only child of the late Maybelle Jones and Betsy and Roosevelt Grier. She was born March 14, 1927.
On January 11, 1941, she became the wife of Dester Lee Hall (now deceased). She accepted Christ at an early age, and served as a devoted Mother of Railroad Avenue Church of God in Christ in Jesup, Georgia. She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny L. (Janie) Hall.
She is survived by 11 children: Dester L. Hall, Hazel (Leon) Scott, Walter L. Hall, Regina (Douglas) Wallace, and Isaac L. Hall, all of Glennville, Georgia; Allen L. (Helen) Hall and Blondell (Andrew) Goethie of Baxley, Georgia; Joan (Timothy) Sease of Jesup; Roy L. (Mary) Hall of Hinesville, Georgia; Sidney L. (Elaine) Hall of Reidsville, Georgia; and Della (Michael) Jones of Hagan, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Louis J. Hall; three sisters-in-law: Sarah Doris Hall, Lillian Hall, and Alice Kimbrough; 32 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one cousin, Inez Hodge of Waycross, Georgia; and many extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23, at 1 p.m. at First African Baptist Church in Glennville. Interment will follow in Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Larry Blocker

Larry “Bull Ant” Blocker, 66, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran, and retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Anderson.
He is survived by five children: Lynn Hederson of Ludowici; Charlene May and Beth Bradley of Glennville; Barbara Rucker of Claxton; and Billy Todd of Jesup; two sisters, Bobbie Tuten of Miami, Florida, and Tessie Bell Tuten of South Carolina; two brothers, Bernie Blocker of Glennville and Donald Blocker of England; the mother of his children, Grace Blocker of Glennville; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Cornerstone Bible Church, with the Rev. Bobby Brinkley officiating. Burial was in Harmony Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Easterling, Jack Cowart, David Easterling, Lloyd Bradley, Pat Easterling, and Shane Dukes.

Anna Boynton

Anna Louise Blocker Boynton, age 60, of Clarkston died June 15, 2005, after courageously fighting an extended battle with breast cancer. She was born on September 26, 1944, in Reidsville, Georgia, and was raised in Glennville, Georgia, on a farm by her late parents, Monroe and Thelma Blocker. Growing up, she was a Master of 4-H, represented Georgia in the Miss Maid of Cotton, and was an ambassador of The Good Will Tour of Europe. She was a 1966 Alumni of the University of Georgia with a BS degree in Home Economics. After graduation, she married her college sweetheart, Rooks Boynton, and taught home economics at Decatur High School. Later she began her own interior design business. During her illness, her strong faith in Jesus Christ was a testimony to all who encountered her. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jonathan Heath Boynton; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Monroe Blocker.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Marion Rooks Boynton; her daughter, Heidi Boynton Butler, and son-in-law, Brett L. Butler, granddaughter Brittany Anna Butler, and grandson Brett L. Butler, Jr., of Smyrna, Georgia; her brother, William Monroe Blocker, Jr., of Glennville; her sister-in-law, Nancy Boynton Forte, and brother-in-law, Wayne Forte of Thomasville; nephews: Cale Blocker of Claxton, Andrew Boynton Forte of Thomasville, and Ben Forte of Niceville, Florida; and niece, Amanda Forte Baggett.

Alice Brazel

Alice Brazel, 79, died Sunday morning, June 19, 2005, at Meadows Regional Medical Center. The Pennsylvania native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker, a member of the Reidsville Lions Club, and a member and Past President of the VFW Post 7764 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for many years with the Red Cross Bloodmobile, and was a member of Elza Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Albert Frances Brazel, and a grandson, Matthew Stanfield.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, E. O. Brazel of Reidsville; two daughters, Kathy Wilson of Reidsville and Melissa (Tommy) Hulett of Lyons; four sons: Ed Brazel, Jr., of Lyons; Raymond James Brazel of Collins; Richard (Connie) Brazel of Rutledge, Georgia; and John Brazel of Frankfort, Kentucky; one brother, Raymond Owens of Pittman, New Jersey; one granddaughter, Leary Brazel of Co. Mayo, Ireland; six grandsons: David and Christopher Brazel, Justin Stanfield, and Casey, Nick, and Alex Hulett; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Moxley and the Rev. Rick Wilson officiating. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were David Brazel, Stan Brazell, Christopher Brazel, Danny Brazell, Justin Stanfield, and Kevin Brazell.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Reidsville Lions Club and members of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 7764.

Betty Bradley

Betty Stacy Bradley, 79, died late Friday night, June 25, 2004, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. The Liberty County native had lived in Glennville for the past 54 years. She was the second oldest in membership to the St. John’s Parish of the Daughters of the American Colonists, and was a longtime member of the Georgia Trust for Historical Preservation. With her husband, she was a founding member of the First City Club in Savannah. She was a homemaker, and a member of Glennville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Stacy, and a sister, Mary Stacy Fox, both of Flemington.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard P. Bradley of Glennville; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard P. and Louise Bradley, Jr., of Glennville; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Danny Anderson of Glennville; a granddaughter, Lana (Walter) Ray of Glennville; four grandsons: Daniel (Wendy) Anderson, Ricky (Jennifer) Bradley, and Alan (Angie) Anderson, all of Glennville; and Brad (Stacie) Anderson of Reidsville; nine great-grandchildren; a special niece, Karen Hanson of Jekyll Island; a special friend, Lyndal Rogers of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Steve Posey. Interment was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Daniel Anderson, Alan Anderson, Brad Anderson, Walter Ray, Herbert Stacy, Ricky Bradley, Glen Fox, and Rick Evans.
Memorials can be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P. O. Box 531, Statesboro, Georgia 30459.
