Marion B. Evans, 70, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, died Tuesday, December 24, 2002, in her home. She retired from 1st Region ROTC Command on Ft. Bragg.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Crabtree of Fayetteville; a sister, Eleanor Woods of Glennville, Georgia; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 28, at 2 p.m. in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Dennis L. Cook. Burial was in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Mary Kennedy
Mary Edenfield Kennedy, 86, died Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Candler County native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, most of her life. She was a member of Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church, and was a retired Civil Service employee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Kennedy.
She is survived by one sister, Joyce Bell Marino of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Wallace Edenfield of Metter, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Bessie Kennedy Thompson of Gainesville, Florida; and several nephews and nieces, including Edwina Skeens of Glennville.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 6, at Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Bryan. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Thompson, Gary Bradham, Larry Kennedy, Dewayne Kennedy, Eddie Skeens, and Joe Skeens.

Irene Brewton
Irene Knight Brewton, 81, died Sunday, January 5, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia. The Long County native had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a former Green Thumb worker, and a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus “Buck” Brewton, and a daughter, Linda DeLoach.
She is survived by granddaughters and husbands, Tammy and Robert Waters and Terri and Ronnie McCloud, all of Glennville, Georgia; a grandson, John DeLoach of Glennville; a sister, Lawanna Fein of Silver Springs, Maryland; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 7, at 3 p.m. at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Spencer Moore and Elder Scott Williams officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were John DeLoach, Jimmy Knight, Robert Waters, Joe Brewton, Ronnie McCloud, and Carroll Brewton.

Lorine Strickland
Lorine Berry Strickland, 67, died Thursday, January 2, 2003, at her residence in Hinesville. She was a native of Glennville, Georgia; a housewife; and a member of Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville.
She is survived by her husband, Ellis Strickland of Hinesville, Georgia; three daughters: Carol Castillo of Jacksonville, Florida; Angela Strickland of Hinesville; and Kenya Marlow of Bristol, Florida; two brothers, James W. Berry of Hampton, Virginia, and Mark A. Berry of Shreveport, Louisiana; four sisters: Mary M. Clanton of Pembroke, Georgia; Vera L. Morales of Roswell, New Mexico; Yvonne L. Berry of Brooklyn, New York; and Leona B. Scott of Collins, Georgia; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, at Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church, located on Hwy. 301 South in Glennville. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Laddie H. Kennedy
Laddie H. Kennedy, 67, died Saturday, October 5, 2002, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County, and a member of Glennville United Methodist Church. He retired as a printer from Union Camp and Ft. Stewart. He was a former owner and operator of Southern BBQ.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Crystal and Wasdon Jones of Eulonia, Georgia, and Kay and Pat Logan of Glennville, Georgia; two sons, Victor “Bubba” Kennedy and Claude Fillmore, Jr, both of Glennville; two grandchildren, Jonathan Mitchell of Glennville and Kristi Jones of Townsend, Georgia; and one great-grandchild, Wasdon Jones II of Eulonia.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 7, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Glennville United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steve Posey. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Robert E. Lee
Robert E. Lee, 63, died Thursday, October 3, 2002, at the V. A. Medical Center in Augusta. The New Jersey native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, for the past seven years. He was retired from Star Expansion in New Jersey, and was a U. S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Darleen Lee of Glennville; one daughter, Tina Rallo of Perry; two sons, Robert E. Lee, Jr., of Caldwell, New Jersey, and Al Lee of Glennville; his mother and father, Elsa and George Hannam of Glennville; one sister, Virginia Fiorina of Tafton, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Gerald A. Lee of Glennville and Jon David Lee of Elizabeth, North Carolina; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 12, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville.
Memorial funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 12, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, with the Rev. Jimmy Bargeron officiating. Burial will be in Jersey City, New Jersey, at a later date.

Lucille D. Rogers
Lucille Durrence Rogers, 87, died Thursday, October 3, 2002, at Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Tattnall County native was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Ira W. Rogers of Glennville, Georgia; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Faye Rogers of Glennville; three sisters: Hazel Strickland of Fayetteville, and Mary Ann Hodges and Sue Fallin, both of Claxton, Georgia; two grandchildren, Kelly Rogers and Brian Rogers of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 5, at 11 a.m. at Glennville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

"Buddy" Grooms, Jr.
Walter S. “Buddy” Grooms, Jr., 70, died Sunday, October 6, 2002, at his residence in Glennville, Georgia, under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. He was born in DeLand, Florida, and lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a U. S. Marine veteran, serving in Korea, and a retired brick mason.
He is survived by five daughters: Debra Thompson of Glennville; Linda Odom, Mildred Grooms, and Tootie Grooms, all of Reidsville; Georgia; and Angela Kuhns of Columbus; three sons: Edward Connaster of Guyton; Clifford Connaster of Washington (State); and Gary Grooms of Savannah, Georgia; one sister, Doris Raley of Wrightsville; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, with the Rev. William Prince officiating. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens with military graveside services.
Pallbearers were Billy Tidwell, Michael Johnson, Jason Steverson, Stevie Elmore, Jarrod Bottoms, and Wally Grooms.

Michelle B. Todd
Michelle Bishop Todd, 30, of Sylvania, Georgia, died Tuesday afternoon, October 1, 2002, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born in Lowndes County, Georgia, and was a graduate of Sumpter County High School in Americus and Altamaha Tech in Jesup. She was a member of Sylvania First United Methodist Church where her father serves as minister. Prior to her illness, she was manager of a Taco Bell restaurant.
She is survived by two daughters, Cathryn Todd and Sebastian Todd, both of Sylvania; her parents, the Rev. H. Dwight and Carolyn Brown Bishop, Sr., of Sylvania; one sister, Nicole Bishop of Tifton; one brother, Hank Bishop of Sylvania; her maternal grandmother, Betty Eloise Brown of Sylvania; three aunts: Barbara Davis of McBean; Joyce Bishop of Lyons; and Renee Collins of Abilene, Texas; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 3, at 11 a.m. at Sylvania First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Rush officiating.
Pallbearers were David Wall, David Smith, Daniel Smith, David Hinson, David Boddiford, Hobson Parker, Cliff Chaney, and Joseph Powell.

Mike "Jap" Kicklighter
Mike “Jap” Kicklighter, 47, died Thursday, October 3, 2002, at Shands Jacksonville Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. The Tattnall County native had lived in Kingsland for the past ten years, and attended New Testament Baptist Church. He was a construction worker.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ellen Kicklighter of Kingsland; three daughters: Mika Veal of Savannah, Lacey Kicklighter of Hinesville, and Cassie Kicklighter of Kingsland; one stepdaughter, Heather Boyd of Florida; one son, Quaid Kicklighter of Kingsland; two sisters, Edra Prestenbach of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Cindy Elder of Midway; two brothers, Charlie Kicklighter and Terry Kicklighter, both of Glennville; his stepmother, Margaret Kicklighter of Glennville; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 6, at 4 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Danny Edens and the Rev. Billy Stanley officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Cemetery.

Randy Shoemaker
Stewart R. “Randy” Shoemaker, 43, died Monday, January 5, 2004, in Chatham County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The Tattnall County native was a 1978 graduate of Glennville High School, and Savannah Vocational Technical School. He had lived in Bloomingdale for 14 years, and was employed by Yancey Brothers as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was a Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite and Alee Shriners of Savannah. He had served as past master of the R. T. Turner Lodge in Pooler, and attended Meldrim Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Michele Rowell Shoemaker of Bloomingdale; a daughter, Mollie Shoemaker of Bloomingdale; a son, Randall Shoemaker of Bloomingdale; his mother, Carolyn Shoemaker of Glennville; and two brothers, Ronnie Shoemaker of Bloomingdale and John Shoemaker of Glennville.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, January 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 8, at First Baptist Church in Glennville. Burial will be in Glennville City Cemetery, with Masonic Rites.
Active pallbearers will be John Godbee, Calvin Hodges, Charles Askew, John Mitchum, Marty Todd, and Pete Allen.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Richard T. Turner Lodge #116 of Pooler and Philadelphia Lodge #73 of Glennville.

Dr. Doralea Harmon
Memorial services for Doralea R. Harmon, M.D., age 85, were held Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Vidalia, Georgia. She died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Dr. Harmon was born in New York, but grew up in Savannah, Georgia, and was a graduate of The University of Georgia. She received a Master’s degree, a PhD, and an M.D. from the University of Wisconsin, and was a member of Sigma Xi, scientific research society, and Alpha Omega Alpha, national honor medical society.
She was in private practice in Wisconsin for nine years and in North Carolina almost thirty years, retiring in 1989. After working as an on-call physician for a North Carolina psychiatric hospital, she moved to Vidalia in 1992 in order to staff the R. T. Stanley Health Center, where she worked until recently. She was currently practicing at the Family Health Center.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Dunbar of Savannah; several nieces, nephews, and godchildren; and her long-time friend and companion, Ann Huston of Franklin, North Carolina.
Services were held at St. Agnes Episcopal Church in Franklin, North Carolina, with interment at the St. John’s Cartoogechaye Episcopal Church Cemetery in Franklin, North Carolina.
Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity or to the American Heart Association.
Bessie Cardell
Bessie Driggers Rowell Cardell, 102, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Forest Lake Nursing Home in Augusta. The Toombs County native, formerly of Reidsville, Georgia, had lived in Florida for 40 years, having moved to the Augusta area in 1997. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Stuart, Florida, and a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty R. Hooks of Augusta; sons and daughters-in-law, Garland C. and Hilda Kennedy Rowell of Gray, Georgia; Doris Rowell; and James Kelly and Carol Rowell of Gainesville, Florida; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 3, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with the Rev. Marshall Singletary officiating. Burial was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gaston Rowell, Lyn Burkhalter, Randy Shoemaker, Sean Rowell, Greg Rowell, Chris Keene, Scott Slater, Rhett Slater, and Michael O’Connor.
