Melba Kennedy
Melba Boyette Kennedy, 75, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at her residence surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of Savannah home care. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah since 1942. She was a homemaker, and a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, W. R. Kennedy of Savannah; three sisters: Flora B. Wilson of Glennville and Marie B. Wilson and Lavern B. Bradley of Reidsville; two brothers, Dillon Boyette of Savannah and Noah Boyette of Soperton; special nephews Buster Wilson and Andy Wilson, Jr.; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jesse Browning and the Rev. Gregg Usry. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Boyette, Dale Boyette, Randy Bradley, Frank Bradley, Richard Bland, and Lewis Boyette.

John Larrabee
John Leonard Larrabee, a native of West Palm Beach, Florida, and a resident of Bourg, Louisiana, died July 5, 2003, at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alma Jane Larrabee, and stepson, Herman Joseph Dupre; parents John Joseph and Annie Kate Mellette Larrabee of West Palm Beach; and a brother, William “Bill” Larrabee of Chackbay.
He was a retired plumber for 35 years with Larrabee’s Plumbing and Repair; served in the U. S. Navy for four years, stationed with the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt; served four years in the reserves; and was commander for the Terrebonne Parish Coastal Rescue Unit from 1981-1983. John was a member of St. Ann Church, Bourg, Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Dupre Larrabee; five sons: Johnny Larrabee of Meridian, Mississippi; David Larrabee of Glennville, Georgia; Alexander Paul Larrabee of South Carolina; John Edward Larrabee of Thibodaux; Don Allen Larrabee of Bourg; one daughter, Lisa Larrabee of Habis of Marrero, N. O.; one brother, Patrick Larrabee of West Palm Beach; one sister, Sue Gibner of Altoona, Florida; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at St. Ann Church in Bourg, Louisiana.

Lewis Cobb
Lewis J. Cobb, 77, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at his home. The Tattnall County native lived in Savannah for 25 years before moving back to Collins in 1966. While in Savannah, he was employed as a carpenter with W. J. Teston Construction, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was an avid fisherman, and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lynn Cobb of Collins; one son and daughter-in-law, J. H. and Paula Cobb of Glennville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lizzie Ellen and Ben Rodriguez of Ellabell and Wanda Faye and Calvin Shuman of Collins; one brother, Clayton Cobb of Claxton; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Sunlight Cemetery in Cobbtown.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers were grandchildren: Ken Faust, Brian Shuman, Steven Shuman, Michael Cox, Lewis Cobb, Calvin Cobb, and Stephanie Cox-Faust.

William Wright
William J. "Bill" Wright, 71, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at his residence. The Rover, Arizona, native had lived in Reidsville since 1976. He was a retired staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was also retired from the Tattnall County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher. He currently operated Sand Tavern in Reidsville.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Wright.
He is survived by two sons, Tytus Darell Wright of Millry, Alabama, and Toney Darnell Wright of Carrolton; three daughters: Cynthia McLain of Millry, Alabama; Debra Perry of Wedowee, Alabama; and Gisela Roberts of Bowdon, Georgia; and fifteen grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 10. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia.

Julie W. Barnard
Julie Wilson Barnard, 43, died Thursday, July 4, 2002. She was a lifelong resident of Reidsville, Georgia; a former convenience store clerk; and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her father, Dan Wilson, and a brother, Ronnie Wilson.
She is survived by two daughters, Alicia Abrigo of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Jamie Grooms of Glennville, Georgia; a son, Roy Adam Barnard; her mother, Dovie Wilson of Reidsville; four sisters: Jeanette Anderson, Betty Flowers, Martha Stanfield, and Debbie Wilson, all of Reidsville; one brother, Larry Wilson of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jesse Browning. Burial was in Pineview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Anderson, Jimmy Anderson, Kenny Stanfield, Shawn Harper, Johnny Wilson, and Ronnie Kennedy.

Joe A. Vallin
Joe A. Vallin, 61, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Tattnall Community Hospital in Reidsville. The Michigan native had lived in Texas, moving to Tattnall County 17 years ago. He was employed in the farm labor industry and was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores R. Vallin of Collins; his five daughters: Mary Lou Lincoln, Irene Vallin, Angie Vallin, Dora Trevino, and Nancy Martinez, all of Collins; six sons: Joe Vallin Jr., Danny Vallin, Saul Vallin, George Vallin, Ruben Vallin, and Felipe Vallin, all of Collins; one brother and three sisters, all of Texas; twenty-seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, at Carter Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, July 11, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville. Burial will follow in Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Charles R. Ulbrich
Charles R. Ulbrich, 75, died Friday, July 8, 2005, at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro. The Rockford, Illinois, native was a pastor, missionary, and teacher of the Gospel. He had formerly served as pastor of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church, Rye Patch Baptist Church, and Faith Baptist Church. He had held the position of headmaster of Christian Park Academy in Jesup; Professor of Spanish at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina; and Professor of Bible at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, and was a pastor’s pastor and a mentor to many throughout the world.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Ulbrich of Glennville; daughters and sons-in-law: Sally and David Ramirez of Garland, Texas, and Susan and Terry Barnard and Sandra Griffin of Glennville; son and daughters-in-law, Steve and Audrey Ulbrich of Cedar Hill, Texas, and Becky Ulbrich of Desoto, Texas; one sister, Harriett Hill of Loves Park, Illinois; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many “preacher boys.”
Funeral services were held Monday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Eugene McDuffie officiating. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were Larry Ramirez, Thomas Ramirez, Dennis Ramirez, Charles Robert Ulbrich, Peter James Griffin, Christopher Ramirez, and Greg Payne.
Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Rye Patch Baptist Church.

Elmo Ragsdale, Jr.
Elmo Ragsdale, Jr., died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at 2:53 a.m., after a six-day confinement at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He was predeceased by his father, Elmo Ragsdale, Sr., and mother, Mary Ella (Thompson) Ragsdale. Mary was sister of the late Lillian Rimes of Glennville and the late Emma Kelly of Statesboro. Elmo, Jr., and Jack Rimes, Jr., were cousins.
He was survived by a son, Randy Leon Ragsdale; a daughter, Laura Ragsdale; a sister, Dana Kay Flanagan; and a brother, Stanton “Stan” Lowe Ragsdale.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, in the chapel of H. M. Patterson and Sons Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia, conducted by the Rev. Al Clarke and brother, Stan Ragsdale.
Glen Akins
Glen Akins, 36, died July 8, 2005, at his residence. The Toombs County native had resided in Evans County most of his life. He was the owner of Akins Digital Communications in Claxton.
He is survived by his wife, Zandra Akins of Glennville; two sons, Cody and Austin Akins of Glennville; his parents, Jerry and Marlene Akins and Glenda and John Threet of Claxton; two brothers, Dan Akins of Claxton and Tim Akins of Columbus, Georgia; two half-brothers, Andy and Zach Akins of Claxton; his maternal grandmother, Joy D. Tippins of Claxton; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, at First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Old Anderson Cemetery in Glennville.

Charles Oliver
Charles R. Oliver, 62, died Wednesday morning, July 7, 2004, at Meadows Regional Medical Center. The lifelong Tattnall County resident was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tony L. Oliver, and a sister, Myrtis Durrence.
He is survived by his children: Melissa Clark and Amy Horne, both of Glenwood; Charlene Byrne of Mt. Vernon; and Rayburn Oliver and Shannon Oliver, both of Vidalia; four sisters: Myrtle Crabtree and Gina Oliver, both of Savannah; Wilma Deal of Collins; and Neva O. Collins of Statesboro; two brothers, Taft Oliver of Mt. Vernon and Cleon Oliver of Reidsville; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Dollie Tucker
Dollie Barrow Tucker, 95, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The lifelong native of Tattnall County was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruby Lee Tucker of Glennville; three sisters, Bertha Mae Thomas of Glennville; Novadeen Rowland of Jacksonville, Florida; and Ruth Crussell of Blackshear; and one brother, Gene Barrow of Mt. Holly, North Carolina.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial was in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Thomas, David Brazell, Ken Tatum, Kevin Tatum, Brett Thomas, and Drew Thomas.

Gerald L. Dunn
Gerald L. Dunn, 69, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Dodge County native had lived in Glennville since 1981. He was retired from the U. S. Army as a sergeant first class after 28 years of service. He served in Korea and Vietnam where he received many awards, including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and two Bronze Stars. He was a carpenter for many years after retiring from the military.
He is survived by his wife, Syble Joyce Dunn of Glennville; children: Mitzi and Robert Campbell of Hawkinsville, Georgia; Daniel and Julie Dunn and Alana and Mark Gore, all of Cochran; Kelly and Brian Kinser of Nashville, Tennessee; and Sylvia and Denny Goodman of Glenwood, Georgia; sisters: Willie Pearl and John King and Mary Belflower of Cochran; and Jennie and Julian Braswell of Eastman; and a brother-in-law, Ellis Bryan of Cochran.
Funeral services with full military honors were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Carter Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Ronnie Saxton. Burial was private.
