Howard Dowdy

Howard Dowdy, 79, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Tattnall Health Care Center in Reidsville. The Tattnall County native was a retired Department of Corrections employee, a U. S. Army veteran, and a member of Orlando Baptist Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Doretha Knight Dowdy of Glennville; one daughter, Angie Anderson of Brooklet; one son, David Hodges of Reidsville; one sister, Audrey Cox of Orlando, Florida; one brother, Derrell Dowdy of Alexandria, Louisiana; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Brian Patrick officiating. Interment was in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wilbert Knight, Wayne Kennedy, Tony Kennedy, R. L. Dasher, Dane Dowdy, and Gene Lee.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Clyde Todd
Clyde Branch Todd, 79, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at her residence. The Tattnall County native was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy A. Todd of Glennville, Georgia; one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and William Faust of Savannah, Georgia; one brother, Hugh Branch of Savannah; two sisters, Hazel Wood of Winder, Georgia, and Billie Goddard of Herlong, California; two granddaughters, Tammy Pittman of Glennville and Nikki Faust of Savannah; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Pittman and Michaela Pittman of Glennville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Edward Brannen officiating. Burial was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home of Claxton, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Gerald Brannen
Gerald Brannen, 61, died Thursday, September 14, 2000, at Midway Health Care Center after an extended illness. The Liberty County native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, and Midway, Georgia, most of his life. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Eleanor and Lee Woods of Glennville and Marion Evans of Fayetteville, North Carolina; three nephews: Joe Woods of Glennville, Harris Waugh of Midway, and Danny Waugh of Kentucky; three nieces: Lana Williams of Conyers, Georgia; Karen Crabtree of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Joyce Roberts of Melton, Florida; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 17, at Pigot Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Wes Mullins officiating.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Broadus Seckinger
C. Broadus Seckinger, 68, died Friday, September 15, 2000, at the Veterans' Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, after a long illness. The Tattnall County native was a Korean War veteran. He was formerly employed by Civil Service and Claxton Poultry Farms. He was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Seckinger of Glennville, Georgia; one brother and sister-in-law, Derle and Sue Seckinger of Glennville; two nieces, Belita Wise of Longview, Texas, and Selena Seckinger of Statesboro, Georgia; one uncle, Edwin Branson of Glennville; four stepchildren: Glenda and Eddie Weathers and Ricky and Tracie Durrence, all of Glennville; Debbie and Don Taylor of Claxton, Georgia; and Mickey and Sandra Durrence of Manning, South Carolina; and nine stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 17, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Van Power officiating. Burial was in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eddie Weathers, Don Taylor, Kenny Durrence, Jeremiah Taylor, Wesley Durrence, Justin Taylor, Scottie Durrence, and Randy Lynn.
Cobb Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Howze
Donald Calvin Howze, 79, died Sunday, September 17, 2000, under the care of hospice at his son's home in Bluffton, South Carolina. He was a native of Lakeland, Florida, but had lived in Stockton, Georgia, then Liberty County, for 20 years before returning to Stockton. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army, and retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart after many years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by two sons, Donald N. Howze and Larry C. Howze, both of Bluffton, South Carolina; three daughters, Doris Pope of Glennville, Georgia; Joan Rushing of Richmond Hill, Georgia; and Vicky Myers of Savannah, Georgia; one brother, Bruce Howze of Florida; two sisters, Rose Brunson of Florida and Audrey Bass of Valdosta, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 19, at 11 a.m. in the Hinesville Cemetery.
Remembrances can be made to American Hospice Care.

Alethia H. Ryan
Alethia H. Ryan, 48, died September 11, 2000, at Memorial Health University Medical Center after a short illness. She was a native of Guyton, Georgia, and a member of South Gardens Church of Christ. She was a radiology technologist at Hilton Head Hospital for four years.
She is survived by two sons, Freddie Ryan of Guyton and Chris Franklin of Allendale, South Carolina; her mother, Allonia Haisten Tootle Ginn of Savannah, Georgia; her stepfather, Lloyd Ginn of Savannah; three sisters: LaJuana Sands of Savannah; Theresa Brooks of Phenix City, Alabama; and Faye Burkhalter Robertson of Greenwood, South Carolina; a brother, Mickey Sands of Richmond Hill, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. She was the granddaughter of the late Stout and Katie Bell Tootle of Glennville, Georgia.
Funeral services were September 13 at 11 a.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel in Savannah, with burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Remembrances can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2526 Cumberland Parkway, Suite 205, Atlanta, Georgia 30339.

Myrtice Kicklighter

Myrtice Waters Kicklighter, 92, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Aldon; a son, Ceburn; and a daughter, Marilyn Brinson.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, LaJuan and Josh Richardson of Glennville and Debra and Robert Thornton of Douglasviille, Georgia; a brother and sister-in-law, Beach and Betty Waters of Charlotte, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with Elder W. H. Durrence and the Rev. Robert Kicklighter officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard Waters, Ronnie Waters, Jackie Waters, Marvin Moxley, Trent Kicklighter, and Willie Bland.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Twindle Gail Powell

Twindle Gail Powell, 59, died Sunday night, July 17, 2005, at her residence under the care of her family and Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Baltimore for many years, moving back to Reidsville ten years ago. She was employed with the Tattnall County Commissioners, and was a member of Hope Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Lindsay.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Powell of Reidsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Michael McCarty of Reidsville; a son, Jerry “Pety” Powell, Jr., of Reidsville; three sisters: Faye Smith and Sherry Smith, both of Glennville; and Miriam Craft of Reidsville; a brother, Wayne Lindsay of Twin City; three grandchildren: Michael, Jr., Matthew, and Lindsay McCarty, all of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery.

Juana N. Esquivel

Juana N. Esquivel, 66, died July 7, 2005, at her residence in Weslaco. She was born December 8, 1938, in Saltillo, Coahuila, to Leonardo and Maria Serrano Navarro. She married Armando Esquivel on July 18, 1959, in Weslaco.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonardo Navarro; two brothers; and a daughter-in-law, Noela Esquivel.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Armando Esquivel of Georgia; children: Jaime (Hilda) Esquivel of Virginia; and Ricardo Esquivel, Dalia E. Mtz. (David) Ross, Armando, Jr. (Abigail) Esquivel, and Joel (Martha) Esquivel, all of Georgia; and Cruz Leonardo (Lydia) Esquivel of Weslaco; her mother, Maria S. Navarro of Weslaco; two sisters; one brother; and 21 grandchildren.
On Monday, July 11, a 7 p.m. rosary was held at McCaleb Funeral Home. A funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco. Interment was at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Pallbearers were Samuel Martinez, Jr.; Ricardo Esquivel, Jr.; Joel Esquivel, Jr.; Christopher Esquivel; Stephen Martinez; and Cruz Leonardo Esquivel, Jr.

Lottie Weathers

Lottie Salter Weathers, 100, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Azalealand Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life, moving to Savannah seven years ago. She was a health care provider, serving Glenvue Nursing Home and the Glennville area. She was a homemaker, and a member of Birdford Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Miller W. Weathers.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret O. Wood of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., and the Rev. Edward Salter officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dennis Odom, Charles Bragg, Freddy Wood, Jerry Branch, George Salter, and Adair Branch.
Remembrances can be made to Birdford Baptist Church, P. O. Box 454, Glennville, Georgia 30427.

Vonceil M. Brantley

Vonceil Mobley Brantley, 60, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. A native of Tattnall County, she attended the public schools of Chatham and Liberty counties. She was a 1963 graduate of Liberty County High School, and later graduated from Talladega College in Alabama with a degree in Social Work. She began her career as a Social Worker with EOA (Economic Opportunity Association) in Savannah, and shortly thereafter, she began working with The Savannah Association For The Blind as a Social Worker. Vonceil was a devoted and dedicated worker for many years, before retiring due to illness. She was a faithful member of Tremont Temple Baptist Church.
She is survived by a loving and devoted husband, Woodrow Brantley, Jr., of Savannah; two sons, Eric (Atina) Brantley and Derrick (Angela) Brantley, all of Savannah; eight sisters: Linda (Wendi) Williams, Gwitha (Earl) Warren, Nell (Sam) Hill, all of Hinesville; Helen Charity Mae (John) Harvey, Geraldine (EC) Davis, all of Glennville; Laverne (Clinton) Daughtery of Fort Pierce, Florida; Vickie (Willie) Kelly and Stephine Maxwell, all of Savannah; three brothers: Jerry (Diane) Mobley of Glennville; and Clarence Maxwell and Phillip Maxwell, Jr., both of Savannah; one sister-in-law, Richardine (John) Gresham of Savannah; a special niece, Brenda (Thomas) McClendon of Savannah; five grandchildren; several godchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Tremont Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Bready officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Savannah.

Lannes Purcell

Lannes S. Purcell, 98, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at his home in Glennville. The Tattnall County native was a very successful farmer. He was a Scottish Rite Mason, served on the Old Unity School Board, and assisted in the reappraisal of property throughout Tattnall County. He was the treasurer of the Church Building Committee at Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by two sons, Jerry Purcell and John Purcell.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Annie Merle Folsom Purcell of Glennville; daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Estus Warren of Baxley; Olivia and Burton Scott and Martha and Thom Maass, all of Atlanta; Fay and Alex Cantrell of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Mary and Paul Cooper of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother, Labon Purcell of Savannah; sisters-in-law, Juanita Purcell of Perry and Doreatha Purcell of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren: Debra Lightsey of Cumming; Kathy and Jimmy Warren of Baxley; Perry Parke of Kennesaw; Charles Parke of Cleveland, Tennessee; Valerie Parke Hawkins of Chapin, South Carolina; and David Cooper and Donna Cooper Cash of Birmingham, Alabama; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by family members. A private burial was in Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Julian Lightsey, Jimmy Warren, Charles Parke, Perry Parke, George Cash, and Kelly Folsom.
Honorary pallbearers were R. D. Folsom, Billy Purcell, Paul Purcell, Pat Patterson, and Dr. Larry Purcell.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.
