E. H. Brown
Elese Herman "E. H." Brown, 87, of Savannah, Georgia, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at Candler Hospital. He was born in Glennville, Georgia, and had lived in Savannah for many years. He was preceded in death by Mary Blanche Brown. He was the owner and operator of E. H. Brown Paint Company. He had been a member of Landrum Lodge #48, F&AM, since June 17, 1955. He was an active member of the Wildwood United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, and a member of the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees. He will be remembered as the person who faithfully helped build the current social hall of the church.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Pearl Dasher Brown of Savannah; three daughters: Tammie B. Phillips and Lana B. Castro, both of Pooler, Georgia; and Lucy B. Roberts of Savannah; a son, Timothy E. Brown of Savannah; three sisters: Bonnie Nesmith and Vera Bourne, both of Statesboro, Georgia; and Edith Kirkland of Glennville; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 22, in the chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Lois G. Caster officiating. Interment followed in the Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia, at 5 p.m.

Mary Powell
Mary Iona Powell, 80, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was retired from Glenvue Nursing Home, a homemaker, and attended Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Powell.
She is survived by sons and daughters: Jimmie E. Powell of Honena Path, South Carolina; Tommie G. and Debra Powell of Eustis, Florida; and Johnny C. and Elvie Powell of Glennville; a brother, James Bacon of Alston; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Lavern Sapp; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Wilford Harden and the Rev. Jimmy Bargeron officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Driggers, Tommy Powell, Timmy DeLoach, Jesse Moon, Michael Powell, and Branden Padgett.

Myrtle Crabtree
Myrtle Jane Oliver Crabtree, 71, died Friday night, July 22, 2005, at her son’s residence in Savannah under the care of Savannah Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah for the past 27 years. She was a homemaker, and a member of Collins Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer C. and Velma Oliver; a sister, Myrtice Durrence; and her husband, James Crabtree.
She is survived by three daughters: Shirley Johnson of Gainesville, Florida; Sudie Wratten of Savannah; and Angie Ambrose of Reidsville; three sons: Montie Powell of Lyons, Jerry Powell of Reidsville, and Edward Powell of Savannah; three sisters: Wilma Deal of Collins, Neva Collins of Brooklet, and Gina Oliver of Savannah; two brothers, Taft Oliver of Mt. Vernon and Cleon Oliver of Reidsville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 24, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment was in Little Flock Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Justin Powell, Slate Hodges, Audie Paul Powell, Terrill Ambrose, Leo Ratten, and Michael Powell.

Helen Musselwhite
Helen Elizabeth Musselwhite, 96, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Evans Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Coffee County, and a retired elementary school teacher.
She is survived by several great-nephews.
Burial was private.

Mary Jane Cribbs
Mary Jane Cribbs, 81, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Claxton Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native had lived in De Leon Springs, Florida, most of her life, moving to Glennville two years ago. She was retired from the citrus industry, and loved fishing and hunting. She was a member of the De Leon Springs Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Cribbs.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Clyde Eddie, Jr. and Pauline Cribbs of De Leon Springs; and Larry and Jeanne Cribbs and Wayne and Janice Cribbs, all of Glennville; one brother, Edward Sorenson of DeLand, Florida; two sisters, Bertha Herbold of DeLand, Florida, and Dorthy Bessinger of Missouri; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Lake Dias Cemetery in De Leon Springs, Florida.

Moses Harris
Moses Harris, 70, died July 25, 2005, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia. He was born in Pembroke, Georgia, Bryan County, and attended the Tattnall County School System. He was a sharecropper and a life long resident of Glennville, Georgia. He was a member of Greater Zachariah Baptist Church in Glennville.
Harris is survived by his chidren: Annie Nell Alston of Atlanta; Andry James Harris, Earnest Lee Harris, Bobbie Jean Cox, Melvin Harris, Linda S. Smith, and Annette Williams, all of Glennville; and Cloria J. Harris of Lithonia, Georgia; two brothers: Sylvester Harris of Miami, Florida and James Harris, Jr., of Glennville; six sisters: Betty Lee Edgerton of Vidalia; Mary Ann Singleton of Hinesville; Vernice Harvey and Unice Scott, both of Glennville; Viola Kent and Nettie Mae Robertson, both of Atlanta, Georgia.
Visitation will be at Greater Zachariah Baptist Church from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2005.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, at Greater Zachariah Baptist Church. Burial will be in Halltown Cemetery.

Claudia Bragg
Claudia DeLoach Bragg, 69, died Sunday afternoon, July 24, 2005, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The Glennville native moved to Statesboro in 1954. She attended Georgia Teachers’ College (Georgia Southern University). She retired from Brooks Instrument after 44 years of service. She was a former member of the American Business Women’s Association, and a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Mission Union and the Jolly Christians. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary “Bo” Bragg.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Doctor M. Terry and Patsy DeLoach of Brooklet; three nephews: Jonathan DeLoach of Atlanta, Matthew DeLoach of Marietta; and Josh Collins of Bessemer, Alabama.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Barnes and the Rev. Tom Osborne officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Bubba Fields, Ricky Cartee, Waldo Colson, Wendell Best, John Fordham, Walton Brown, Ralph Colson, Remer David Barnes, and James Harris.

Lavern Cook Worth, 74, died Friday night, July 22, 2005, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all her life. She was a retired seamstress from Roydon Wear, and was a member of Abundant Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Sharpe of Collins and Terri Barnard of Reidsville; one son, Buddy Gay of Reidsville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Abundant Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church in Reidsville, with Pastor John Price officiating.

Virginia Hughes Howard Padgett, 91, died Thursday, July 21, 2005.
She is survived by a son, Charles Richard Howard, Jr., and three grandchildren, all of Coral Gables, Florida; a sister, Amanda Hughes Mosley of Augusta; and several nieces and nephews.

Emma Lou Houston
Emma Lou Poppell Houston, 74, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born in Tattnall County to James A. and Earlie Smith Poppell. She lived in Albany for almost 40 years, moving back to Glennville, Georgia, several years ago. She was a homemaker, and a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Earline Thompson of Glennville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernie and Becky Thompson of Glennville and Vann and Beth Houston of Marietta; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Bryan and the Rev. Steven Posey officiating. Burial will be in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

James F. Hogston, 70, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Pike County, Kentucky, native had lived in Michigan for many years, moving to Glennville, Georgia, 12 years ago. He was retired from General Motors. He was a member of Glennville VFW Post #8379, and a member of Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hogston of Glennville; four daughters: Barbara Masters of Onstead, Michigan; Frankie Goosby of Glennville; Kathy Dodge of Walled Lake, Michigan; and Rose Leach of Hinesville, Georgia; two sons, Jim Hogston of Gregory, Michigan, and Jerry Hogston of Romulus, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Bryan officiating.
