C. D. Prince, 101, of Metter, Georgia, died Saturday morning, August 3, 2002, in Candler Hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Tallahassee, Florida, and had lived in Metter since 1985. He was a member of the Plaster's and Cement Masons International Union of the United States and Canada, and the oldest member of Metter United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Waters Prince.
He is survived by one niece, Sara W. Brown of Hinesville; one cousin, Barbara Farrell of Tallahassee, Florida; friends of April House; and Hardee's breakfast club.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 5, at 3 p.m. at Metter United Methodist Church, with burial in Harmony Church Cemetery in Mendes.
Pallbearers were George Stagmeir, Sonny Morgan, Paul McGregor, James Jones, Gus Watson, and Joey Brown.
Honorary escort was John Mize.

Carrie Blocker
Carrie Jones Burkhalter Blocker, 83, died Sunday, August 4, 2002, at Brian Center Nursing Home in Lumber City. She was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County, a homemaker, and a member of Love's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Prentice Harrison Burkhalter and Revis Blocker.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ann and Stanford Tillman of Hazlehurst; three sons and daughters-in-law: Alva and Myra Burkhalter of Bainbridge; Don and Terri Lynn Burkhalter of Jesup; and Gregg and Gail Burkhalter of Lawrenceville; three sisters: Leila Kicklighter of Glennville; Ruby Poore of Ft. Pierce, Florida; and Ellen Jones of Brunswick; one brother, Oren Jones of Cobbtown; three granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, with Elder W. H. Durrence officiating. Burial was in Love's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jay Blocker, Larry Baker, Martin O'Donnell, Chris Missel, Damon Kennedy, and Steve Denton.

Richard A. Rolls
Richard A. Rolls, 60, died Sunday, August 1, 2004, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. He was born in Savannah, living in Richmond Hill for many years, moving to Glennville in 1972. He was retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Rolls of Glennville; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Martin and Steve Morris of Claxton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard A. Jr. and Sheri Rolls, currently in Iraq; and Tommy P. and Jennifer Rolls of Las Vegas, Nevada; his father, Patrick L. Rolls of Glennville; one sister, Geraldine Henry of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; ten grandchildren: Keith, Ethan, Deacon, Cheyanne, Vincent, Richard III, Devan, Remington, and Christopher; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, August 7, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Burial was in the Rolls Family Cemetery near the residence of 7058 Bluff Lake Road in Glennville.
Active pallbearers were Bobby Parker, Jesse Parker, Jimmy Parker, Rodney Johnson, Billy Parker, Steve Morris, James Parker, and Roger Rolls.

Jake Kirkland
James Edward “Jake” Kirkland, 64, died Thursday, August 5, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The lifelong Tattnall County resident was of the Baptist faith, and was retired from Gene Kirkland Logging Company.
He is survived by one daughter, Lisa Copeland of Uvalda; one son, James Wright Kirkland of Reidsville; one stepson, David Brown of Reidsville; one sister, Jeanette Hollingsworth of Savannah; one brother, Ricky Kirkland of Reidsville; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 28, at 47 Hill Lane in Reidsville on the Ohoopee River.

Paula Elizabeth Cox, 57, died August 6, 2004, at West Clinic of Memphis, Tennessee. She was employed as a MD assistant with Federal Express and was a volunteer with Memphis Literacy Council.
She is survived by her husband, Brien Cox of Millington, Tennessee; one son, Bobby Dawkins of Millington, Tennessee; one brother, Paul Lewis of Arlington, Tennessee; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Karen Cox of Glennville, Georgia; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, at Griffin Chapel of Munford Funeral Home. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Arlington, Tennessee.

Mary S. Kerr
Mary S. Kerr, 95, died Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia. She was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County, and a member of Glennville First Christian Church. She was a former Tattnall County public school food service worker, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, P. J. Kerr; a son, Robert Kerr; and a daughter, Ava Kerr.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Jack and Velma Kerr of Midway and Larry and Brenda Kerr of Tybee Island; grandchildren: Julie K. Dasher and Jill Kerr, both of Glennville; Micah Kerr of Indianapolis, Indiana; Angela K. Prewitt of Haslett, Michigan; and Amy K. Cole of Richmond Hill; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 8, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Everton and the Rev. Keith Rustin. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Milton Fulton, Jr.
Milton L. Fulton, Jr., 49, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The lifelong resident of Glennville was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was an avid drag racer, and was named the 1993 Person of the Year at Southern Dragway. He was the founder and owner of Fulton’s Garage and Machine Shop.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Fulton of Glennville; three sons: Robert Fulton, Joseph Fulton, and Eddie Fulton, all of Glennville; two aunts, Dora Paul of Stuart, Florida, and Nina Mae Driggers of Glennville; and several cousins and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 8, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Gay and the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., officiating. Burial was in Antioch Church Cemetery.

Harold Burkhalter
Harold Burkhalter, 81, died Saturday, August 9, 2003, at his home in Long County. He was a lifelong resident of Long County, a member of Little Rock Baptist Church, and a retired farmer.
He is survived by one sister, Helen Fennell of Glennville; one brother, L. W. Burkhalter, Jr., of Glennville; three grandsons and wives: Tony and Marie Dubberly, Timmy and Brenda Dubberly, and Tommy and Darlene Dubberly, all of Glennville; three great-grandchildren: Jason Dubberly, Amber Dubberly, and Tina Dubberly; and one son-in-law, Bobby M. Dubberly of Glennville.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, August 11, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Michael Bryan and the Rev. Brad Pickren. Burial was in Pigot Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Emmitt Wilson
John Emmitt Wilson, 81, died suddenly on Thursday, August 7, 2003. The Tattnall County native was a member of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. He was a World War II Army veteran, and a former farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Constance Alice Wilson of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law: Johnny and Lois Wilson of Richmond Hill; Jackie and Linda Wilson of Rincon; and Ricky and Joy Wilson, Randy and Debra Wilson, Andy and Terri Wilson, and Dennis and Connie Wilson, all of Glennville; a stepdaughter and husband, Gwen and Johnny Eckhart of Glennville; a stepson and wife, Fillmore and Cathy Waters of Glennville; sisters: Fannie Durrence and Matt Blocker of Glennville; and Hazel Stubbs, Louise Craft, and Betty Grice, all of Claxton; one sister-in-law, Sula Wilson of Claxton; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 10, at Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by Elder W. H. Durrence. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Fay Swindle
Janie Fay Swindle, 99, died Monday, August 11, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The York County, South Carolina, native had lived in Tampa, Florida, for many years, moving to Glennville in 1991. She was retired from Civil Service after 30 years of service. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Tampa, Fellowship Sunday School Class, and the Mystie Chapter #110 Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther T. Swindle.
She is survived by a nephew and wife, Charles and Iris Swindell of Glennville; a niece and husband, Wanda and Jackie Holland of Ludowici; a cousin, Oswald Teague of Greenville, South Carolina; and grand-niece and husband, Shirley and Bill Werts of Waterloo, South Carolina.
Funeral services are to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 14, at Blount Curry and Roel Funeral Home, MacDill Avenue Chapel, 605 South MacDill Avenue, Tampa, Florida. Burial is to be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Minnie Smith
Minnie McGee Smith, 91, died Sunday, August 3, 2003, at the home of her daughter. The Crawford County native had lived in Macon many years and had been a member of the Ed Cook Sunday School class of Vineville Methodist Church in Macon and a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. She moved to Glennville four years ago, and moved her membership to Glennville United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kathryn and Pat Banks of Glennville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, at Riverside Cemetery in Macon, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Glennville United Methodist Church.
