Carolyn Kicklighter
Carolyn Murphy Kicklighter died on August 5, 2003, at her St. Simons Island residence. She was the daughter of the late Willie Wesley Murphy and Willie Maude Bohannon Murphy of Surrency. She was a native of Appling County where she lived for 28 years. She attended Berry College in Rome. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Darien, where she served as church secretary, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and training union, served on the building committee, and was involved in many other church activities. She was also a member of Eastern Star, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, and past president of the Georgia Hairdressers Association.
Preceding her in death were her grandson, Randy Kicklighter; stepgrandson, Gary Kicklighter; stepgranddaughter, Carolyn Canady, all of Savannah; her brother, Wesley Murphy of Darien; and her sister, Ila Whitten of Augusta.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Lon Lewis of St. Simons Island; her three sons and daughters-in-law, Randell and Bessie Kicklighter of Savannah, Howard and Mary Kicklighter of Brunswick, and Keith and Debbie Kicklighter of St. Simons Island; her stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, William and Melinda Kicklighter of Savannah; a sister, Mary Lamb, and a brother, Rob Murphy, both of Baxley; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 7, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Darien, with the Revs. Dimas Diaz, Danny Barton, Joe Eason, and Dr. Logan Smith officiating. Interment followed at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Appling County.
Active pallbearers were her nephews: Zan Murphy, Mike Lamb, Dennis Lamb, Orbie Lamb, Larry Tillman, Mickey Stone, and Ferris Whitney.

Walton Burkhalter
Walton William Burkhalter, 94, died Monday, August 11, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native was reared in Glennville and then moved to Savannah. He was employed by the City of Savannah for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Gladys Strickland Burkhalter. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Quentin and Gloria Burkhalter of Greensboro, North Carolina; one daughter, Reba Rogers of Savannah; three grandchildren: Britt Sachs of Savannah; Beth Walton Jones of Oak Grove, Kentucky; and Brett Burkhalter of Cape Coral, Florida; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Jeslyn Weitman, and a special nephew, Jerry W. Burkhalter.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 14, at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah.

Mary Hardenbrook
Mary Hardenbrook, 70, died Monday, August 11, 2003, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. The Duval County, Florida, native had lived in Jesup for the past ten years. She was a former employee of the Glennville Hatchery, and a homemaker. She attended First United Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Todd.
She is survived by a son, Ellis Todd of Blytheville, Arkansas; four sisters: Hazel Terrell and Betty Parker, both of Glennville; Lois Terrell of Glen Saint Mary, Florida; and Martha Crews of Lake City, Florida; one brother, Mark Hardenbrook of Jesup; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Ernie Terrell and the Rev. John Nunes officiating. Interment was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Timothy Gillam, Michael Gillam, Roger Hardenbrook, Tony Hardenbrook, Matt Terrell, and Scott Hardenbrook.

Buck Brewton
Marcus "Buck" Brewton, 89, died Monday, August 12, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native was a former attendant at the Tank Car Service Station, and a member of Birdford Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Knight Brewton of Glennville, Georgia; one sister, Zelma Keels of Glennville; two granddaughters and husbands, Tammy and Robert Waters and Terri and Ronnie McCloud, all of Glennville; one grandson and wife, John and Michele DeLoach of Glennville; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 13, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Elder Spencer Moore officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John DeLoach, Robert Waters, Ronnie McCloud, Austin Keels, Joe Brewton, Carroll Brewton, Wayne Brewton, Billy Brewton, and Bobby Brewton.

Jimmy Kennedy
James M. "Jimmy" Kennedy, 76, died Monday, August 12, 2002, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The lifelong resident of Tattnall County was a U. S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. He was a retired Postmaster and a member of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge #32 for fifty-three years. He was a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church and served in numerous positions, including Chairman of the Board.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Kennedy of Reidsville, Georgia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Ricky Hodges of Reidsville, and Rebecca and Joe Still of Blackville, South Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, Milton and Jeanna Kennedy of Claxton, Georgia; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Betty Kennedy of Reidsville; six grandchildren: Gavin Hodges and Nathan Hodges of Reidsville; Jami Kennedy and Jessica Kennedy of Claxton; and Aaron Still and Courtney Still of Blackville, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, at Reidsville United Methodist Church. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery.

Jeanette Anderson
Jeanette Wilson Anderson, 61, died Monday, August 16, 2004, at Candler Hospital. The Tattnall County native was a Baptist, and a homemaker. She enjoyed floral design as a hobby.
She is survived by two daughters, Christine Harper of Vidalia and Jackie Wood of Reidsville; three sons: John Anderson of Reidsville, Dewayne Anderson of Atlanta, and Jimmy and Gina Anderson of Tyson; her mother, Dovie Wilson of Reidsville; three sisters: Betty Flowers, Martha Stanfield, and Debbie Wilson, all of Reidsville; one brother, Larry Wilson of Glennville; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Steve Miller. Burial was in Pineview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Adrian Bowen
Adrian Zachary Bowen, 42, died August 16, 2004, after a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Mitchell James Bowen, Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Ann Bowen of Augusta; Mrs. Ben Smith, Sr (Mikki) of Many, Louisiana; Mrs. Wayne Carpenter (Patricia) of Lincolnton; Mrs. Len Herrington (Debra) of Midway; and Mrs. Joe Rush (June) of Reidsville; three brothers: Edward Bowen of San Diego, California; Mitchell Bowen of Reidsville; and Zach Bowen of Savannah; two godchildren, Adriana Barlow and Nathan Tanner of Evans, Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Cobb Funeral Home in Reidsville. Burial will be private.

Nellie B. Hammonds
Nellie B. Hammonds died Tuesday, August 10, 2004. She was born June 10, 1918, in Emanuel County, Georgia. In her early years, her parents, the late Nelson and Lula B. Scott, moved to Glennville, Tattnall County, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Hammonds, and three sisters and one brother.
She is survived by four nieces: Etwinda Fate Wright of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and Debra Murphy, Mary Lee Frazier, and Mary Harvey, all of Glennville; three nephews: Jimmy Lee Fate of Riviera Beach, Florida; James Luther Fate of Chuluota, Florida; and Danny Lee Scott of Glennville; one brother-in-law, James Fate of Glennville; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, close neighbors, and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, at First African Baptist Church in Glennville. Interment was in First African Baptist Church Cemetery.

M.D. Bacon
M. D. Bacon, 86, died Sunday, August 17, 2003, at Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, after a long illness. The Tattnall County native attended Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, and was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Lang Purvis and David Hughes.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois D. Bacon of Glennville; five daughters and sons-in-law: Sheryl and Werner Vaughn of Baxley; Cathy and Fillmore Waters and Janna and Wayne Martin of Glennville; Jill and Gary Gordon of Ludowici; and Merle and Greg Hughes of Hinesville; two sisters, Annette Moore of Eulonia and Elizabeth Strickland of Claxton; two brothers, Joe Kress Bacon of Warner Robins and Dan Bacon of Macon; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Bryan officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dovie Wilson
Dovie Wilson, 81, died Monday, August 22, 2005, at Meadows Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County, a member of Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church, and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Wilson, and three children: Jeanette Anderson, Ronnie Wilson, and Judy Barnard.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Betty and Charles Flowers, Martha and Paul Stanfield, and Debbie Wilson, all of Glennville; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Opal Wilson of Glennville; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville chapel, with the Rev. Charles Barnard officiating. Burial was in Pineview Baptist Church Cemetery.

John C. Tatum
John C. Tatum, 83, died Monday, August 22, 2005, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The lifelong resident of Tattnall County was a member and a Deacon of Reidsville Baptist Church, Reidsville Lions Club, a former Tattnall County Commissioner, and was retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections as a farm supervisor. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed traveling.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche K. Tatum.
He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Tatum of Reidsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Brenda Tatum and Eddie and Mary Tatum of Vidalia; one sister, Myrtice Sikes of Reidsville; three brothers: Dwight Tatum, Willie Joe Tatum, and Eugene Tatum, all of Glennville; grandchildren: Suzanne and Smitty Lamb of Tifton, Trevor and Melissa Tatum of Reidsville, and Denise Tatum of Watkinsville; and great-grandchildren: Tatum Lamb and Beau Brinson Lamb of Tifton and Parker Tatum of Reidsville.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, at Reidsville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Burial was in Love's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
