Lewis Johnson
Arthur Lewis Johnson, 45, died Monday, January 5, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. He was born in Evans County, and had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, and a member of Heritage Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Shannon Johnson of Glennville; three children: Ashley Nicole Johnson, Carlotta Cato, and Darwin Cato, all of Glennville; his mother and stepfather, Joann and Jimmy Hughes of Collins; two sisters, Sheila Fulton of Glennville and Lila O’Neal of Collins; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, at Carter Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 8, at Carter Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mike Gay and Glenn Stanfield. Burial will be in the Stanfield Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Simmie Driggers, Lee McCurdy, Stanley Swain, Joe Folsom, Walt Dasher, and Simmie Driggers, Jr.

Grady Wedincamp, Jr.
Grady L. Wedincamp, Jr., 68, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003. The Appling County native had lived in Hinesville and Glennville most of his life. He was retired from the Georgia National Guard and the National Guard Training Center at Ft. Stewart after 20 years of service. He was a self-employed truck driver, an avid fisherman, and a member of Hinesville First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Wedincamp, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ann Wedincamp of Glennville; his mother, Malliveen Wedincamp of Midway; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Marjorie Wedincamp of Shellman Bluff and Billy and Betty Wedincamp of Midway; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Don Watkins of Midway; brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom and Helen Smith of Brunswick, Dave and Jeanette Smith of Baxley, and Geri Anderson of Jesup; a special niece and nephew, Tami Calderone of Richmond Hill and Perry Smith of Nahunta; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2004, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. George and Ann Jordon officiating. Burial was in Jesup City Cemetery, with military honors.
Pallbearers were Reg Fanning, Andy Smith, Ashley Fanning, David Smith, Reggie Fanning, Danny Smith, and Richie Smith.

Serafina Meza Almanza
Jose De Jesus Perez Saldana, 29, along with two of his children, Delia Perez Lira, 6, and Lisbeth Perez Lira, 3 months, and Serafina Meza Almanza, 52, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Clinch County on Saturday night, January 3, 2004.
Funeral services will be held in Mexico at a later date.

Philip L. Brinson
Philip L. Brinson, 36, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003. He had lived in Toombs County most of his life, having lived in Reidsville, Georgia, for the past four years. He was employed by C. L. Greer Enterprises.
He is survived by his parents, Barbara Ann and William Albert Brinson of Vidalia, Georgia; and five brothers: Edwin Brinson, Willie Brinson, James Brinson, Delmas Brinson, and Charlie Brinson, all of Vidalia.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Boiling Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.

Loutrell A. Smith
Loutrell A. Smith, 82, died January 5, 2004, at Hospice Savannah after a short illness. The Tattnall County native was residing in Bloomingdale before becoming ill. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Steven M. and Susan Elizabeth Smith of Charleston, South Carolina; one daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Kirk Thurman of Bloomingdale; a stepmother, Ruby Anderson of Savannah; two brothers, Donald Anderson of Savannah and Dale Anderson of Glennville; three sisters: Carolyn Durrence of Glennville, Vonice Aimone of Savannah, and Glenda Jackson of Kentucky; one aunt, Grace DeLoach of Glennville; two grandchildren, Erica Thurman and Sean Thurman of Bloomingdale; one grandson, expected to arrive in one week, Sullivan Michael Smith; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, January 7, at 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 8, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Brewton Cemetery in Hagan, Georgia.

Ophelia Lanier Everage, 80, died Friday, December 21, 2001, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia. The Tattnall County native was a homemaker, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Glennville, Georgia.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Tootle of Glennville and Sally Lanier of Reidsville; a son, David Lanier of Reidsville; a stepdaughter, Joyce Abel of Reidsville; a sister, Lillian Barrow of Bellville; a brother, Ernest Moseley of Lyons; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 23, at 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Morgan officiating. Burial was in the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.

Gladyce Bacon
Gladyce Bacon, 94, died Monday, December 24, 2001. She was born in Long County, Georgia, and moved from Glennville to Haines City, Florida, in 1946. She retired from GTE in Haines City after 25 years as a telephone operator. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
She is survived by a brother, Harold Bacon of Haines City; six sisters: Ella Lee Dozier of Arlington, Texas; Florie Gunterberg of Tucson, Arizona; and Wilma Higgins, Bobbie Huntt, Marie Fry, and Mary Fowler, all of Haines City; and grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 27, at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Inez Todd Kick, 98, died Tuesday, December 25, 2001, at Coastal Manor Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native was the oldest member of Glennville United Methodist Church, and was a homemaker and an avid gardener.
She is survived by two nieces, Ann T. DeLoach and Margie Everhart, both of Hinesville, Georgia.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry DeLoach, Donald Carter, Tommy DeLoach, Kevin Carter, Douglas DeLoach, and Mickey Collins.

Hymie A. Sikes, 74, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Jacksonville and Glennville most of his life. He was a retired truck driver, and attended Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Cora Sikes, and a brother, Curtis Sikes.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Alan Layne of Vidalia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Myra Sikes of Glennville and James and Sandy Sikes of Vidalia; two sisters, Betty D. Kilby and Annette Sikes, both of Glennville; two brothers, C. J. Sikes and Billy Sikes, both of Glennville; his companion, Elizabeth Bernston of Glennville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Reuben Cason officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Merle Howard
Merle Kicklighter Howard, 76, of Savannah died Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Hospice Savannah, Inc. She was born in Savannah, Georgia, and was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Howard; her son, John ‟Chip” Howard; her parents, Clyde Kicklighter and Nell Banks Kicklighter; and a brother, Drexel Kicklighter. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple, and was the former owner of Merle’s Coiffures.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Walter W. ‟Lucky” Howard and Marc "Tyke” Howard and his wife, Wanda Howard; a sister, Gaynelle Kicklighter Arnett of Seattle, Washington; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Myrt Kicklighter of Savannah and Ralph and Birdie Anderson; and a niece and a nephew, Doug and Peggy Duehning of LaConner, Washington.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, January 13, at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.
Entombment services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, January 14, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Memory Gardens - Mausoleum.

Josephine Durrence, 82, died Saturday, January 8, 2005. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a homemaker, and was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by five children: Cliff Ellis Shuman of Pembroke, Nena Burgess of Marietta, Nina Page of Vidalia, Nathan Page of Glennville, and Claude Page of Darien; one sister, Lothair Murphy of Savannah; and one brother, Lon Durrence of Glennville.
Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, at Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. G. Truett Leveritt officiating.

Jack Stafford
Jack Stafford, 64, died Monday, January 10, 2005, at East Georgia Medical center in Statesboro. He was retired from Porter-Huggins, Inc., as a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife, Molly, and a daughter, Brandy, both of Glennville; two sisters, Jane Stevenson of Savannah and Myrtle Turlington of Thomasville; two brothers, Ralph Stafford of Reidsville and Carlton Stafford of Register; and several nieces and nephews.
The body will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Remembrances can be made to a charity of choice.

Blanche Tatum
Blanche Kicklighter Tatum, 79, died Thursday, January 8, 2004, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Ware County native had lived in Tattnall County most of her life, and was a loving wife and mother. She was a retired florist, and a member of Reidsville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John C. Tatum of Reidsville; one daughter, Debbie Tatum of Reidsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Brenda Tatum of Reidsville and Eddie and Mary Tatum of Vidalia; two sisters, Lourene Crosby and Pat Knight, both of Reidsville; grandchildren: Suzanne and Smitty Lamb of Tifton; Trevor and Melissa Tatum of Reidsville; and Denise Tatum of Watkinsville; and great-grandchildren: Tatum Lamb and Beau Brinson Lamb of Tifton and Parker Tatum of Reidsville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 11, at Reidsville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dick Patton and the Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Burial was in Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Frances Evers
Frances Hughes Evers, 93, of Wauchula, Florida, died Sunday, December 28, 2003, in Coral Gables. A native of Glennville, Georgia, she had been a resident of Wauchula since 1936. She was a retired English teacher with the Hardee County Schools. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wauchula, the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class, the Wesleyan Circle of the United Methodist Women, The Wednesday Musicale, the Wauchula Garden Club, the Hardee County Education Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joel Evers, who passed away in December 1999.
She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Padgett of Coral Gables and Amanda H. Moseley of Augusta, Georgia; and seven nieces and nephews: Dan Cooper, Richard Howard, Joe Hughes III, Libbie Hughes Kurinec, Ben Moseley, Fran Moseley, and Ann Cooper Geisel.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church of Wauchula. Burial was in Wauchula Cemetery.
