Edna Lanier
Edna Blocker Lanier, 77, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003. She was born in Tattnall County, Georgia, and moved to Savannah 58 years ago. She was a homemaker, and a member of Wesley Oak United Methodist Church where she was also involved in the United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oren V. Lanier, and her son, Michael S. Lanier.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary C. and Betty J. Lanier of Statesboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Floyd Reese of Savannah; one brother, Earl Blocker of Valdosta; four sisters: Ola DeLoach of Glennville; Ida Pearl Todd of Claxton; Medra Purvis of Savannah; and Jean Deas of Springfield; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 22, at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Interment followed at 4 p.m. in Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery.

Aubrey Godbee
Aubrey Godbee, 66, died Saturday, August 24, 2002, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia, after a long illness. The Evans County native and lifelong resident was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was the owner and operator of Godbee's Paint and Body Shop for over 40 years. He often served with the American Red Cross, and was a former member of the Evans County Wildlife Club, the Claxton Jaycees, and served as a former disaster chairman of the Red Cross.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Edytha Lightsey Godbee of Claxton; one daughter, Lisa Hendrix of Claxton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl W. and Rebecca Godbee and Johnny and Mary Godbee, all of Meldrim, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Onara Lightsey Mosley of Claxton; two grandsons, Aaron Hendrix and Jared Hendrix of Claxton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 27, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Claxton, with the Rev. Eric Sizemore and the Rev. Craig Hutto officiating. Burial was in Brewton Cemetery.

William "Bill" Corley
William F. "Bill" Corley, 77, of Lyons, Georgia, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002, in St. Joseph's-Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Toombs County, he was retired from the Georgia Forestry Commission, and was a member of Elza Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Cleta Beth Hackle Corley of Lyons; one daughter, Sharon Hicks of Collins, Georgia; one son, Dwayne Corley of Brunswick, Georgia; two granddaughters, Tori H. Sikes and Amanda Hicks, both of Collins; two brothers, Bobby Corley of Fayetteville, Tennessee, and Carlye Corley of Savannah; two sisters, Mary Duncan of Griffin, and Shay Corley of Augusta, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 23, at 3 p.m. at Elza Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Linton and the Rev. Joe Phillips officiating. Interment was in Harden's Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bud Corley, Jones Hart. O. T. Ray, Carl Corley, Greg Wiggins, and Gordon Tippins.

Benigno Sanchez, Jr.
Benigno Sanchez, Jr., died Saturday, August 21, 2004, in Aurora, Colorado. The Brownsville, Texas, native had lived in Glennville for many years. He was retired from the seafood industry, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He is survived by his wife, Elva Sanchez of Glennville; four sons: Benigno Sanchez III and Damian Sanchez, both of Glennville; Rigoberto Sanchez of Shellman Bluff; and Tony Sanchez of Brunswick; five sisters: Dora Padlla of Aurora, Colorado; Rosa Morales, Sanjuana Iniques, and Maria Delgado, all of Brownsville, Texas; and Mercedes Sanchez of San Diego, California; four brothers: Tomas Sanchez, Arturo Sanchez, and Alonso Sanchez, all of Brownsville, Texas; and Jesus Sanchez of Easterling, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 27, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 220 Sandy Run Drive, Hinesville, Georgia. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Nell Mingle
Nell Proctor Mingle, 66, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of her life before moving to Savannah 13 years ago. She was a homemaker, and a member of Glennville First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Tom Mingle, and a son, Frankie Wells.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Stacy Mingle of Goose Creek, South Carolina; one daughter, Debbie Waters of Glennville; five grandchildren: Christopher H. and Matthew T. Mingle, Ashley and Marcia Waters, and Crystal Wells; one great-grandchild, Jacob Hendrix; a sister and brother-in-law, Lilla and Thurman Mobley of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 20, at Carter Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Rev. John Nunes. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Christopher Jones, Larry Proctor, Randy Wilkes, Tyron Proctor, Bill Proctor, and Tryran Carter.

Jerry Gutierrez
Jerry Gutierrez, 77, died Sunday morning, August 29, 2004, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville many years, moving to Glennville in 1975. She was a graduate of Glennville High School, and retired from Rogers Correctional Institution. She was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by Vicki Gutierrez and Mitilee Strickland Stroebel.
She is survived by her daughter, Val Gutierrez of Reidsville; best friend of 70 years, Lyndal Rogers of Glennville; and the pond house girls.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery.

Patricia Ann Griffin, 61, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at Hospice Savannah after a long illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville and Savannah most of her life. She was a secretary at Savannah YMCA, and a member of White Bluff Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by a son, Tony Griffin.
She is survived by a daughter, Tammy Knieling of Mauldin, South Carolina; three brothers, Bernie Blocker and Larry Blocker of Glennville and Donald Blocker of Suffolk, England; three granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 28, at Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr.

Lillie Tootle
Lillie Cox Tootle, 98, died Saturday morning, August 28, 2004, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. The lifelong Tattnall County resident attended Georgia Teachers College and taught in the Toombs County School System. She was the oldest member of Reidsville Methodist Church and was a member of the Tommy Thompson Sunday Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Tootle, and her daughters, Janice Shuman and Sue Tootle.
She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law: Jimmy and Anh Tootle of Merritt Island, Florida; Theo and Coty Tootle of Jasper, Georgia; Carroll and Shirley Tootle of Commerce, Georgia; Ray and Cindy Tootle of Metter, Georgia; and Mark and Suzanne Tootle of Pooler, Georgia; one daughter, Betty Tootle of Orlando, Florida; a son-in-law, Robert Shuman of Collins; 14 grandchildren: Debbie Tootle, Mike Tootle, Ann Taylor, Craig Tootle, Clay Tootle, Don Shuman, Tom Tootle, Michelle Tootle, Glenn Tootle, Julie Tootle, Joy Tootle, Brian Tootle, Renee Tootle, and Janet Tootle; 19 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Sharon (Wayne) Bland; and several other nieces and nephews.

Janie G. Knight, 84, died Friday, August 16, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Tattnall County native was a homemaker, a seamstress, a quilter, and a former cafeteria manager at Glennville Elementary School. She was a member of First Christian Church in Glennville, Georgia.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harry Knight of Glennville; four sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Barbara Knight of Yulee, Florida; Lindy and Becky Knight of Hanson, Kentucky; and David and Meta Knight and Steve and Tonya Knight of Glennville; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Faye and Adair Blocker and Cindy Knight of Glennville and Debbie and Larry Houston of Milledgeville, Georgia; one sister, Lois Griffin Hodges of Savannah, Georgia; one brother, Gene Griffin of Glennville; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 18, at 3 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville, Chapel, with the Rev. Chris Dodson and the Rev. David Everton officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Willie Mae Wyatt Cobb, 69, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002. The Harlan County, Kentucky, native had lived in Indiana for many years, moving to Glennville, Georgia, 25 years ago. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Cobb.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Billy Nelson of Irving, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law: Kenny and Jane Cobb, Jim and Cindy Cobb, and Mike Cobb and Tanya, all of Indianapolis, Indiana; three sisters: Mary Alice Crocker of Blackshear, Georgia; Sara Williams of Marion, Indiana; and Peggy Snyder of Hinesville, Georgia; three brothers: Bill Wyatt of Orange, California; Richard A. Wyatt of Marion, Indiana; and Ray Wyatt of Upland, Indiana; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Monday, August 19, at 2 p.m. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Pete Hallman
Robert Pete Hallman, 69, died Thursday, August 28, 2003, at Toombs Nursing Home after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native was retired after 25 years from Schreiner College in Kerrville, Texas, as Professor of English where he served as chairman of the English Department for 15 years. He taught at Brewton-Parker College for several years, was a U. S. Air Force veteran, and was a member of Mendes Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Hallman; his parents, Tom and Winnie Hallman; a stepsister, Lucille Waters; and a brother, Jewette Waters.
He is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin and Ernestine Hallman of Snellville and Marquette and Mary Frances Waters of Glennville; one sister, Novis Clifton of Townsend; one sister-in-law, Ohma Waters of Snellville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Carter Funeral Chapel at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 31, with the Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the Mendes Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.

Mary Terrell
Mary Elizabeth Terrell, 61, died Friday, August 22, 2003, at Hospice Savannah. Born in Richard City, Tennessee, she had lived in Faulkville for a number of years and was a faithful member of Trinity Church of God in Garden City where she had been a senior youth sponsor, Sunday School secretary, a soloist, a member of the choir, and a member of the women’s auxiliary. She had been employed with Kennickell Printing Company for over 22 years. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jeremy Clay and Justin Stokes, and three brothers: James H. Forsythe, Chester Forsythe, and John L. Forsythe.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Lealon Dewey Terrell of Faulkville; four children: Cynthia Marie Clay and Bubba Terrell of Eden and Connie Dannett Stokes and Aubrey Russell Terrell of Meldrim; one sister and brother-in-law, Vera Mae and Jim Bryant of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one brother and sister-in-law, Thurman and Dottie Forsythe of Chickamauga, Georgia; five grandchildren: Bryan Kidwell, Sheena Stokes, Joshua Stokes, Jacob Terrell, and Dennis Terrell; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 25, at Trinity Church of God, with the Rev. Bill Stuckey and the Rev. Wayne Owens officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
Active pallbearers were Bryan Kidwell, Joshua Stokes, Howard Martin, Donald Greer, Chris Futch, and Jack Wilson.
