Ralph H. Bowden
Ralph Howard Bowden, 68, died Sunday, September 11, 2005, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Clarke County native was a ten-year veteran of the U. S. Navy, a former purchasing agent for Mercer University, and retired as personnel manager for a contracting company. He moved to Glennville in 2000, and was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Hellums Bowden of Glennville; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy Bowden of Atlanta, Gail and Keith Rustin of Glennville, and Sherri and David Wynn of Macon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Joe McCarthy of Athens and Rita and Terry Saye of Lawrenceville; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Melanie Bowden of Norcross; six grandchildren: Benjamin, Joshua, and Jacob Rustin of Glennville and Keilah, Mara, and Taylor Wynn of Macon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, at Glennville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were Gary Banks, Dan Dubberly, Danny Durrence, Alan Everett, David Holland, Hugh McCullough, Dennis Odom, Paul Oliver, Troy Rahn, and Dennis Strickland.
Honorary pallbearers were the inactive Deacon Board members of Glennville First Baptist Church.

Joseph 'Joey' Jarriel
William Joseph 'Joey' Jarriel, 20, died Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The lifelong resident of Tattnall County was affiliated with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was employed by Wilson Brothers Timber Company as a logger, and loved the outdoors and singing.
He is survived by his parents, James William and Cindy Stanfield Jarriel of Glennville; sisters, Audrey Nicole Cranford and twin sister Jessica Allie Jarriel of Glennville; two brothers, Robert Stanfield and Steven Holt Stanfield of Glennville; his grandmothers, Peggy Stanfield and Jolene Busby of Glennville; and four nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, September 9, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, with Elder Herbert Girard officiating. Burial was private.
Pallbearers were David Hollis, Sr.; Robert Odum; Luke Douglas; Perry Stanfield; Daniel Cason; and David Hollis, Jr.

Bryan Rushing
Bryan Rushing, 35, died Saturday, September 11, 2004. He was born in Evans County, living in Daisy and Claxton most of his life. He was employed by Dees Roofing.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Tina Rushing of Glennville; a niece and nephew; and several cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, at Poplar Head Church Cemetery, with the Rev. James M. Holland officiating.

Elizabeth T. Davis
Elizabeth Tyre Davis, 83, of Screven, Georgia, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004, after an extended illness. The Pierce County, Georgia, native had lived in Screven most of her life, and was a member of Screven Church of God. She was a retired seamstress and homemaker, and was the widow of Brad Davis.
She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Davis of Atlanta and Craig Davis of Screven; three daughters: Patricia Dixon of Screven, Sandra Collins of Atlanta, and Beth Durrence of Glennville; a brother, James Reppard ‟Bubba” Tyre of Savannah; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 12 noon Saturday, September 11, at Screven Church of God, with the Rev. Terry Jones officiating. Interment was in Screven City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Screven Church of God.

Gloria Upperman
Gloria Upperman, 39, died Sunday, September 12, 2004, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Richmond County native had lived in Glennville for many years, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Gregory Upperman of Glennville; one daughter, Jessica R. Barnes of Glennville; and several brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, at Carter Funeral Chapel.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 16, in the Prickett Family Cemetery in Augusta.

James Faircloth
James Henry Faircloth, 83, passed away on September 15, 2003, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. He was the son of the late Cordy and Carrie B. Faircloth. The lifelong resident of Glennville, Georgia, was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church.
An outstanding businessman and friend, the Glennville High School graduate attended business school in Athens, and then attended Cotton Exchange and Drawner College in Savannah. Returning to Glennville, he purchased a cotton gin and started ginning and classifying cotton and buying and selling cotton and seeds. He owned and operated Faircloth Farm Supply and Faircloth Grain for many years, and was an agent for Cotton States Insurance as well. He was a shareholder and director of the Glennville Bank where he served on the Loan Committee for many years. He lived for the bank and his friends. He was also a member of Alee Temple.
He was preceded in death by a son, Devin L. Faircloth.
He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Ethel S. Faircloth of Glennville; a goddaughter, Carlie McLeod of Glennville; one sister, Lyndal F. Sozek of Minneola, Florida; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Posey and the Rev. John Haney officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jimmy Long, Dale Scarborough, Ronnie McLeod, Andy Tanner, Bob Tanner, and Cecil Futch.
Honorary pallbearers were directors of the Glennville Bank.

Bucky Driggers
Alton Gene “Bucky” Driggers, 46, died Friday, September 12, 2003, at his residence. The Tattnall County native was a retired mechanic.
He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jan and Buddy Bradley of Glennville and JoEllen and Harold Veal of Rincon; and one brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Renee Dasher of Glennville.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 15, at Glennville City Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Kenny Edwards.

Geraldine Aborn
Geraldine Durrence Aborn, 82, died Thursday, September 11, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was preceded in death by her husband, Almer Aborn.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Aldine and John Hill of Hudson, New Hampshire; Lothaire Carruthers of Kinston, New Hampshire; Lolette and James Williams of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; Rose Aborn of Fresno, California; Evelyn and William Sim of Prescott, Arizona; Phillis Kicklighter of Sanford, Florida; and Naomi and Johnny Driggers of Glennville; two sisters, Lothaire Murphy of Savannah and Josephine Durrence of Glennville; one brother, Lon Durrence of Glennville; 29 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 14, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, with the Rev. Jerry Knight officiating. Burial was in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Eardean Griffin
Eardean Daughtry Griffin, 81, died Saturday, September 13, 2003, at her residence after an extended illness. The Long County native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Slater Griffin, and grandsons: Daniel Brannen, Tony Griffin, and Shane Griffin.
She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn “Topsy” Griffin of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and Maridean Waters of Glennville; three sons and daughters-in-law: Clyde and Madalyne Griffin of Savannah, Larry and Gail Griffin of Bremen; and Herman and Becky Griffin of Marietta; one sister, Georgia Bland of Glennville; one brother, W. H. Daughtry, Jr., of Glennville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 15, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with Elder W. H. Durrence and the Rev. David Sands officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.

Mamie Martin
Mamie McCormick Martin, 89, died September 13, 2002, at Chester County Nursing Center. She was born in Glennville, Georgia, and was the daughter of the late Henry Desport Albert and Georgia Pearl (Sanders) Albert. She was the widow of William S. McCormick. She attended school in Glennville. She was retired from Springs Industries. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Chester, South Carolina.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy H. McCormick of Chester, South Carolina, and Wayne McCormick of York, South Carolina; two brothers, Dalton Albert and Charles Albert, both of Chester, South Carolina; two sisters, Betty Bigham of Chester, South Carolina, and Ozie Granger of Great Falls, South Carolina; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, William McCormick, Donald McCormick, and Carl McCormick.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. September 16 at Westside Baptist Church. Interment was in Chester Memorial Gardens, officiated by the Rev. Mark Chapman.

Jerome D. Porter
Jerome D. Porter, 21, died Tuesday, September 13, 2005, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. The Liberty County native had lived in Glennville all his life, and was a 2002 graduate of Tattnall County High School. He was employed at Planet Cycle in Claxton, and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his parents, Terry and Jeanie Porter of Glennville; a sister, Erica Porter and husband Brock Mantz of San Marcos, California; his fiancée, Katey Anderson of Glennville; maternal grandparents, Gene and Sara Lee of Glennville; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Lois Sanders of Hinesville; paternal grandfather, Lewis Porter of Midway; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 15, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., and the Rev. Tommy Ray officiating. Burial was in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
