Birdie Lee Nunnally
Birdie Lee Porter Nunnally died August 24, 2005, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia. A memorial service was held on September 4, 2005, at St. James AME Church in Glennville, where she was a longtime and faithful member. She became a Christian when she was very young. She attended public schools in Long County, graduating from Walker High School. She received a BS degree from Savannah State College (University) and a M. Ed. from Clark Atlanta University. She was employed for several years in the Long County School System as a counselor, principal of Walker Middle School, girls' basketball coach, and creative dance team coach. She served two terms as a county commissioner and aided in many other worthwhile activities. She was a member of Floyd Chapter #21, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by three sons, DeWitt Porter and wife, Gloria, of Greenville, South Carolina; Dewayne Reviere of Macon; Eddie C. "Timmy" Reviere and wife, Michelle, of Dallas, Texas; a devoted foster son, Patrick Wallace of Glennville; a brother, Willie Arnett Porter (Ernestine) of Detroit, Michigan; many other foster children; a sister-in-law, Odessa Marshall (the Rev. Freddie Marshall) of Glennville; a brother-in-law, Devoughn Nunnally (Rosetta) of Glennville; two special aunts; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Mrs. Nunnally's wishes, her body was donated to science.

Wyndall McGill
Wyndall McGill, age 58, died Saturday, September 17, 2005, at Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia, after a short illness.
She is survived by her mother, Lillian Coleman, and stepfather, Charles Coleman of Glennville; her father and stepmother, George and Velma King of Miami, Florida; four daughters: Tracey Graham (C. Roy Graham) of Lithonia; Cynthia McGill of Decatur; Doris Marie McGill of Valdosta; and Ta Rhonda McGill of Mt. Vernon, New York; two sons, Bryant Keith McGill and Stephen R. McGill of Stone Mountain; three grandchildren: Clemesha, Shanae, and Daniel Graham of Lithonia; four sisters: Marilyn King, Dianne Denise Roberts (James), and Sarah Manor (Lewis), all of Glennville, and Margaret King Drinks of Stone Mountain; five brothers: Rufus King (Carol) of Conyers, James King (Ilene), William Neil King (Sharon) of Stone Mountain, Edward Coleman (Connie) of Lawrenceville, and Charles Coleman of Glennville; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, co-workers, and church family.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 24, at First United Pentecostal Church in Glennville. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Gladys Bowen
Gladys Almana Brannen Bowen (Namie), 95, died September 20, 2005, surrounded by her loving family. The Glennville native had lived in Savannah most of her life. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lawton Bowen; a son, Gerald Lawton Bowen; and a grandson, Jeffrey Jacobson.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Reba B. and Saxton Daniel and Wanda B. and Carl Daniels, all of Savannah; sons and daughters-in-law: Robert J. and Janie Bowen of Glennville; Glenn and Suzie Bowen of Savannah; and Jewel Bowen of Fleming; a sister, Bennie Moore of Glennville; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 22, at Carter Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.

Ira W. Rogers
Ira W. Rogers, 92, died Friday, September 9, 2005, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The lifelong resident of Tattnall County was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church where
he had served as a deacon, a member of the Building and Groups Committee, and was instrumental in building the first pastorium and renovation of the church property. He was formerly employed by Beasley Ford Tractor, J. C. Lewis Ford Tractor, and The Ford Plantation. He was also a former postal employee, retired school bus driver, and a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Durrence Rogers.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Faye Rogers of Glennville; a sister, Edna Belle Mulligan of Glennville; three brothers, Emory Rogers of Claxton, B. G. Rogers, and Jack Rogers both of Glennville; two grandchildren, Brian Rogers and Kellie Rogers both of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 11, at 3 p.m. at Glennville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Interment was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers were Mike Mulligan, Danny Phillips, Alex Rogers, Dan Rogers, Ken Rogers, Michael Rogers, Hugh Reddish, and Chris Roessler.

Dewey Rush
Dewey Devant Rush, 86, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native was a member, deacon, and a former song leader of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He served for 14 years as a Representative in the Georgia General Assembly. He was a retired farmer, a Mason, a former owner and operator of Rush's Store, and an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Una Mae Weathers Rush.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Strickland Rush of Glennville, Georgia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and L. J. Wilson and Gail and Bill Smith, all of Glennville; one stepdaughter and husband, Debbie and Paul Spiess of Longwood, Florida; three sons and daughters-in-law: Derrell and Gail Rush of Summerville; Quinton and Yvonne Rush of Glennville; and David and Jackie Rush of Thomson; two brothers, Eddie Rush of Riverside, California, and Cecil Rush of Savannah, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 20, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel. Burial was in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Morgan and the Rev. Charles "Bucky" Strickland officiating.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Mike Wilson, Brian Wilson, Allan Bergdoll, Steve Rush, Brian Spiess, and Randy Rush.

Donna Godwin
Donna Thompson Godwin, 90, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. The Tattnall County native is a graduate of Glennville High School, and Telfair Hospital School of Nursing where she received a degree as a Registered Nurse. She served as a Navy Nurse during World War II, as a private nurse, and as the Tattnall County Public Health Nurse for about 30 years. She was an active member of Glennville United Methodist Church. She was selected as the Woman of the Year by her community in 1976.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, A. L. "Bobby" Godwin; parents Henry Marvin Thompson and Gracy Hallman Thompson; two brothers, H. D. Thompson and Ernest Pete Thompson; and an adopted brother, Clinton Thompson, who was lost in action in World War II.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Aubrey Sikes and George and Lisa Godwin-Jones of Glennville, Georgia; three grandchildren: Allison S. (Ishan) Palit of Bombay, India, and Glennville; and Angelynne (Will) Sheffield and Bryant Jones of Glennville; three great-grandsons: Shiv Palit and Yuv Palit of Bombay, India, and Glennville; and Will K. Sheffield of Glennville; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Ray Sheffield of Glennville; two sisters, Mrs. W. A. (Birdie) Tootle and Mrs. Celton (Alma) Kicklighter, both of Glennville; one brother and three sisters-in-law: Parker W. and Marjorie A. Thompson and Elizabeth Jane (H. D.) Thompson, all of Glennville; and Joann P. (Pete) Thompson of Reidsville, Georgia.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 20, at 11 a.m. at Glennville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Interment was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Sherry L. Thompson
Sherry L. Thompson, age 60, died Friday morning, September 23, 2005, at home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice, following an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Bulloch County, and a member of Nevils United Methodist Church. She had retired as a retired from Dr. Hudson J. Powell's dental practice in Statesboro. She was also a member of the Carroll Crawford Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garnel A. and Ena Mae Lanier; a sister, Sarah McCorkle; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Thompson.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Larry M. Thompson of Nevils; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mychelle and Scott Haddon and Maria Thompson of Nevils; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jeanie Thompson of Glennville; five grandchildren: Payton and Logan Haddon of Nevils; and Maddy, John Michael, and Ford Thompson of Glennville; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Lottie Faye Lanier of Nevils; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and John Dye and Patty and Pete Powell of Statesboro; two brothers-in-law, Ray McCorkle of Nevils and Gerry Thompson of Leefield; a sister-in-law, Sara Thompson of Leefield; and several nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 25, at the chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home, with Dr. O. H. "Tab" Smith and the Rev. Joe Eason officiating. Burial was in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Buddy Anderson, Charles Deal, Paul Harmon, Chuck Lee, Franklin Rushing, and Preston Turner.

Regina Harrelson Rucker, 39, died Friday morning, September 23, 2005, at her residence. The Toombs County native lived in Claxton many years before moving to Collins four years ago. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Harrelson.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Henry Rucker of Claxton; her parents, James and Eva Harrelson of Collins; two daughters, Ashley Deal of Cobbtown and Brandy Hodges of Vidalia; a son, Paul McCullough of Lyons; a stepdaughter, Mary Rucker of Michigan; two sisters, Dorothy Hodges and Tonia Fletcher, both of Collins; three brothers: Danny Weaver of Reidsville, Emory Bud Harrelson of Collins, and Hugie Harrelson of Claxton; and a grandson, Billy Deal of Lyons.

James Girton
James "Papa" Girton, 59, died early Thursday morning, September 22, 2005, at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia. The Franklin, Tennessee, native had lived in Cleveland, Ohio, many years, moving to Reidsville ten years ago. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
He is survived by his wife, Juneth Girton of Reidsville; two daughters, Laurie Pichardo and Tefani Peters, both of Reidsville; two sisters, Teresa Mathews of Cowan, Tennessee, and Hazle Haney of Cleveland, Tennessee; two brothers, Joey Steele of Cowan, Tennessee, and Randy Holland of Reidsville; six grandchildren: Adrian, Ivan, and Jasman Pichardo; Tanikka and Danyelle Peters; and Adriana Vazquez; and several nieces and nephews.

Jennifer J. Flowers, 55, died Saturday, September 25, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Idaho native had lived in Tattnall County for several years. She was a member of Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church, and a former office manager at Rogers Heating and Air Conditioning.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Flowers of Reidsville; a daughter, Michelle F. Friend of Glennville; a sister, Penny Armstrong of Idaho; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 30, at Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Harris Nix officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
