Lavon B. Morgan

Lavon Bell Morgan died Sunday, October 23, 2005. She was born October 15, 1934, in Claxton, Georgia, to the late Oscar and Lavanaua Bell. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Clayton Bell, who was killed in the Korean War. She was a 1952 graduate of Claxton High School, continuing her education at University Hospital in Augusta, earning a degree in Nursing. She was class president in nursing school. She served as a nurse at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, and at Presbyterian Hospital. She was an instructor at Central Piedmont Community Hospital. She was a member of the Alter Guild at St. John's Episcopal Church, and an active member of the Prime Timers.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ristine Marshall "Pat" Morgan of Mooresville, North Carolina; one daughter, Mary Marshall Madden of Salisbury, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, John Clayton "Clay" and Jean McKenzie Morgan of Matthews, North Carolina; two granddaughters, Katelyn and Jessica, and her mother-in-law, Robena Morgan, of Charlotte; one sister, Willene Lancaster of Denmark, South Carolina; one brother and sister-in-law, W. O. "Dub" and Lavene Bell of Glennville, Georgia; nephews: Bryson (Susan) Morgan, Jamie (Elizabeth) Morgan, Ken (Robin) Bell, Keith Bell, William (Michelle) Morrison, and Michael (Gail) Morrison. She is also a special "Be-von" (nickname for Lavon) to Riley and Bo Singer.
A private graveside service was held Wednesday, October 25, at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all memorials be made to the Prime Timers at St. John's Episcopal, 1623 Caramel Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28226.

Jo Ann Thomas

Jo Ann Thomas, 60, died Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Tattnall County native was a charter member of Pineview Baptist Church. She was a retired procurement analyst at Ft. Stewart, a former secretary at Reidsville United Methodist Church, and was currently employed with the Vocational Rehabilitation Service at the Georgia Department of Labor in Statesboro. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Bertha Thomas.
She is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law: Lyndal and Kennon Tatum, Wanda Lopez, and Anita Thomas, all of Reidsville; brothers and sisters-in-law: Julian and Jackie Thomas of Glennville; Kerry and Mary Thomas of Albany; and Ronnie Thomas of North Charleston, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 20, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with the Rev. Gregg Usry officiating.
The eulogy was given by Ronnie McCall, Becky Annis, and Ronnie Thomas.
Burial was private.
Because of her generosity, someone has received the gift of sight.

James M. Tootle

James Melton Tootle, 74, of Valdosta, formerly of Glennville, Georgia, died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born June 25, 1930, in Glennville, he was the son of the late Fred D. and Devonda Strickland Tootle. He was a retired supervisor for the Georgia Department of Labor, and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church, The American Legion, and a graduate of Georgia Southern University.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Tootle of Valdosta; a daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Frank Bird III of Jennings, Florida; three grandchildren: Frank Bird IV, Martha Helen Bird, and James Rutledge Bird; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Patricia Tootle of Cairo, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 11, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home, with the Rev. Douglas Reddick and the Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial was in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.

Ella Ree Rogers

Ella Ree Rogers, 71, died Thursday night, September 30, 2004, at Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro, Georgia. The Samson, Alabama, native had lived in Reidsville most of her life, moving to Waynesboro four years ago. She was a homemaker, and attended Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Rogers.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Bill Sturgeon of Waynesboro; one sister, Grace Powell of Manassas; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 3, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. J. Michael Morgan. Interment was in Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Nephews served as pallbearers.

Skyler M. Dasher

Skyler Marie Dasher, infant daughter of Michael Dasher and Gina Powell, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.
Other survivors include: maternal grandparents, Johnny and Elvie Powell of Glennville; paternal grandparents, Don and Windy Dasher and Brenda and Brian Hill of Ludowici and Sandy and Alex Pinkston of Glennville; paternal great-grandparents, Barny and Mary Jane Poppell, Charlotte and Dan Skipper, and Waldo Moody, all of Ludowici; maternal great-grandmothers, Iona Powell and Sara Swindell of Glennville; paternal great-great-grandparents, Leon and Alma Ryals of Ludowici; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, at Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Remembrances can be made to the Skyler Marie Dasher Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 820, Glennville, Georgia 30427.

Dick Damron

Richard W. "Dick” Damron, 69, of Kingsland, died Friday, September 17, 2004, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. A native of Wood River, Illinois, he had lived on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for eight years before moving to Jacksonville, Florida, where he lived for 16 years. He moved to and retired in Kingsland, Georgia, where he had resided for the past two years. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska. He had a distinguished 22-year career in the U. S. Army, serving in Korea, and two tours in Vietnam as an Army Aviator, retiring at the rank of major in 1975. He was the first Security Director for the Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island, during which time he organized a high ranked outstanding department of services among top private communities across the country. He was directly involved in establishing the necessary security functions and programs for the Heritage Golf Classic at Hilton Head. He then moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he worked for the State of Florida in the Department of Family and Children Services, and he eventually retired as Superintendent of the Duval County Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Thomasine Baker Damron of Kingsland (formerly of Glennville, Georgia); four sons: Donald Damron of Valdosta, Georgia; and Mark Damron, Tony Damron, and Lance Damron, all of Jacksonville, Florida; one daughter, Christy McMichael of Jacksonville; two brothers, David Damron of Trenton, Kentucky, and Kenneth Damron of Colleyville, Texas; and three granddaughters, Andrea, Bailey, and Taylor.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, at Victory Baptist Church in St. Mary’s Georgia, with the Rev. Tony Barber officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, with full military honors.

John W. Anderson

John Willie Anderson, 33, died early Friday morning, October 1, 2004, at his residence. The Candler County native had lived in Tattnall County most of his life, and was of the Holiness faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lola Mae Anderson, and a brother, Joe Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Kimball Anderson of Reidsville; two daughters, McKayla Anderson and Tammy Marie Anderson, both of Reidsville; two sisters, Clara Holland and Melissa Amburn, both of Reidsville; one brother, Oliver Anderson of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 5, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. William Prince. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Mitchell, Bud Strickland, Rob Shore, Rick Baatz, Bobby Joe Anderson, and Ricky Baatz.

Montez S. Starcher

Montez S. Starcher, 85, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Long County native had lived in Alabama for many years, moving back to Glennville in 1997. She was a homemaker, a member of Glennville United Methodist Church, and a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband, George C. Starcher of Glennville; one daughter, Lillian Blake of Glennville; one son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Carol Starcher of Birmingham, Alabama; three sisters: Mildred Blocker and Joan Dubberly, both of Glennville, and Madge Hayes of Pooler; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, at Carter Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 7, at Glennville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery
Pallbearers will be Gerald Blocker, Danny Foster, Willie DeLoach, Daniel Dubberly, Ronnie DeLoach, and Paul Thornhill.

Billy Rogers

W. A. “Billy” Rogers, 75, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at Memorial Health Medical University Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Tattnall County native was a farmer and owned W. A. Rogers and Sons Produce. He was a member of Farm Fresh Tattnall, and a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Willene M. Rogers of Glennville; daughters and sons-in-law: Kathy R. Heard of Moultrie; and Betty Jean and Wayne Easterling and Angela and Bill Durrence, all of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law: Alex and Amy Rogers, Jeff and Connie Rogers, and Nick and Danna Rogers, all of Glennville; one sister, Edna Belle Mulligan of Glennville; and four brothers: Ira Rogers, Jack Rogers, B. G. Rogers, all of Glennville; and Emory Rogers of Bellville; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 17, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bailey Heard, Jonathan Easterling, Stacey Adams, Jes Rogers, Nathan Rogers, Luke Durrence, Jake Rogers, Joseph Easterling, and Landin Marzolf.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Maxine England

Maxine Banks England, 75, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church, and a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter and two sons, Bonnie England, Ronnie England, and Lonnie England, all of Florida; two sisters, Jean Thornton of Pensacola, Florida, and Betty Kicklighter of Sandersville; three brothers: T. C. Banks of Jacksonville, Florida; and Gary Banks and Pat Banks of Glennville; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday, October 18, at Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial was private.
Remembrances can be made to Watermelon Creek Baptist Church.
