"Bugs" DeLoach
George Dale “Bugs” DeLoach, 61, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. The Tattnall County native was a graduate of Glennville High School and served in the Georgia National Guard. He was formerly employed by Georgia Power.
He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Donna DeLoach of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and Karen and Bill Moulton of Reidsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Stacey DeLoach of Statesboro; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dayne and Evelyn DeLoach and Ned and Carolyn DeLoach, all of Glennville; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 15, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home with the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., and the Rev. Thomas Williams officiating.
Burial will be in Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gene Folsom, Larry Moody, Louis Geiger, Larry Dreggors, Randy Wilson, and Kelly Harold.

Martha Robinson
Martha Robinson, 84, of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, formerly of Reidsville, died Thursday, January 8, 2004, in a Chattanooga, Tennessee, hospital after a short illness. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Reidsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Robinson; a sister, Bobbie Thornton; and two brothers, Thurman Rooks and James Rooks.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Sharon Robinson of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee; two granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Stephanie Robinson and Pamela and Todd Mayse, all of Soddy-Daisy; three great-grandsons: Richie, Austin, and Will; five sisters: Trudi Spikes, Louie Rogers, Betty Thomas, Helen Taylor, and Grace Ketterman, all of Reidsville; one brother, Albert Rooks of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 12, at the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. John Price. Interment was in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were J. E. Spikes, Glen Spikes, Charles Rooks, Roy Spikes, Tom West, and Ronnie Rogers.

Mary McNeal
Mary Benton McNeal, 85, died early Tuesday morning, January 13, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Wheeler County native had lived in Claxton many years. She was a retired waitress, and the widow of Paul McNeal.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Julian and Ellen Lenore Goff of Claxton and Harold and Macy Goff of Hickory, North Carolina; one brother, Van Benton of Savannah; and two grandchildren, Julie Goff Braly and Frankie Goff, both of Claxton.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, at the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 15, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will be in Northside Cemetery in Pembroke.

Martha Henderson, 93, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Tattnall Community Hospital in Reidsville. The Laurens County native had lived in Collins for the past 20 years. She was a homemaker, and a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle of Collins.
She is survived by special friends, Gary and Janice Kennedy of Collins; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Sunday, January 4, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 5, at Resthaven Cemetery in Decatur.

Frank Baxter
Frank Oris Baxter, 82, of St. Stephens, South Carolina, a retired president and general manager of the St. Stephens Telephone Company, died Saturday, December 27, 2003, at his residence. He was born August 11, 1921, in Glennville, Georgia. He served in the Navy Seabees during World War II, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Stephens. He founded the St. Stephens Telephone Company and the Tobacco Road Golf Course. He was an avid sportsman and golfer. He was a graduate of Glennville High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W. B. “Butler” and Eula Mae Harrell Baxter and one brother, Bruce Baxter of Glennville.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Rogers Baxter; two daughters, Brenda B. Brabham of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and Wanda B. Fleming of St. Stephens; a son, Robert O. Baxter of Moncks Corner; a sister, Doris B. Folker of Garden City, Georgia; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 29, at the First Baptist Church in St. Stephens, South Carolina. Burial was in the St. Stephens Episcopal Church Cemetery.
Marie Rogers
Marie Bussey Rogers, 75, died Sunday evening, January 11, 2004, at her residence. The Charlton County native lived in Clayton County, Georgia, for 25 years and moved to Reidsville in 1977. She was a U. S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. She was retired from Rich’s Department Store and Hill Shopping Center.
She is survived by her husband, Sankey Cecil Rogers III of Reidsville; two sons, Larry Wayne Rogers, Sr., of Canton, Georgia, and Sankey Cecil Rogers IV of Orange Park, Florida; one sister, Kathryne Bussey of Waycross; one brother, Kerry “Ben” Bussey of Blountstown, Florida; five grandchildren: Martelle Marie Rogers, Eric Mitchell Rogers, Candice L. Leath, Jason C. Kennedy, and Larry Wayne Rogers, Jr.; and three great-grandchildren: Cody Chatman, Kayla Chatman, and Justin Leath.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Hudson officiating. Interment will be in Reidsville City Cemetery.

Jerry Moody
Jerry “Turtle” Moody, 44, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at Statesboro Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. The Long County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a member of Pigot Branch Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Ollie Moody; sisters, Flonnell Moody and Shirley Youmans; and brothers, Hillis Moody and Pete Moody, all of Long County.
He is survived by special sisters, Gail Lynn of Reidsville and Betty Moody of Wilmington, North Carolina; two brothers, Mitchell “Dink” Moody and Dale “Pez” Moody, both of Long County; and special cousins: Sara Swindell; Fred Collins, Jr.; Kathy Collins; and Johnny and Elvie Powell, all of Glennville.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, at Pigot Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Long County, officiated by the Rev. James O. Young. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Ronald Moody, Eric Moody, Irbie Moody, Mike Howard, Alex Morey, and Dwayne Powell.

Thomas E. Murphy
Thomas Eugene Murphy, 69, died Monday, January 13, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Georgia. The Tampa, Florida, native had lived in Spokane, Washington, where he was graduated from East Washington College. He was a retired school teacher, moving to Glennville, Georgia, several years ago. He was a Korean Army veteran.
He is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Miller of McCall, Idaho; one son, Kelly Murphy of Bozeman, Montana; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Donald Wright of Glennville; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis K. and Ann Murphy of Sterling, Virginia; one niece; and one nephew.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Glennville Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., officiating.

John H. Zupancic, 90, died Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at Pembroke Memorial Hospital. The Artice, Yugoslavia, native had lived in Florida since 1938. He was retired from The Southland Corporation.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bertie Albert Zupancic of Cooper City, Florida; two daughters, Marta Nash and Lanita Villandre of Cooper City, Florida; one son, James Zupancic of Portales, New Mexico; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, at Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Harris Nix officiating.

Virginia Edenfield
Virginia Lang Edenfield, 84, of Darien, Georgia, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center. A native of Camden County, she had lived in Glennville, Georgia, from 1948 to 1966, before moving to McIntosh County where she had resided for the past 35 years. She was co-owner of the Darien Ford Company, a member of the Darien United Methodist Church, a member of the Glennville Garden Club, a former member of the Eastern Star, and was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by one son, Jimmy Edenfield of Darien; one daughter, Barbara Hutto of Marietta; one brother, Calvin Lang, Sr., of St. Marys; one sister, Emmie Lang Sheffield of St. Marys; and three grandchildren: Jae Edenfield, Susan Lang Hutto, and Ivan Pallares.
Graveside services were held Thursday, January 10, at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, with the Rev. Franklin Pierce officiating.

Betty Odom
Betty Odom, 72, died Saturday, January 12, 2002, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native had been a resident of Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia, for 26 years. She was a member of Bull Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Gwen Odom of Claxton, Georgia; four nieces: Gail Dasher of Glennville; Sharon Brady of Lake Butler, Florida; and Sheila Spurlock and Sonja Giebeig, both of Lake City, Florida; and one nephew, Barry Odom of Glennville.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 14, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Elder Scott Williams and the Rev. Ernest Gordy officiating. Burial was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Oren Lanier
Oren Valentine Lanier, 85, of Savannah, Georgia, died Thursday, January 10, 2002, at Candler Hospital. He was born in Bulloch County, Georgia, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army from May 1939 until June 1945. He was retired from Braun Construction Company, and he was a member of the 8th Infantry Regiment of Ft. Screven, Georgia; a member of the Carpenters Local Union #256 for over 50 years; and a member of Wesley Oaks United Methodist Church where he had formerly served on the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Edna Blocker Lanier of Savannah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Connie Lanier of Savannah and Gary and Betty Lanier of Pembroke, Georgia; one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Floyd Reese of Savannah; one sister, Lorena Burnsed of Statesboro, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Billy Reese, Brian Reese, Katricia Reese, Ricky Shuman, Kimberly Grantham, Kerri Arendes, and Amber Lanier; six great-grandchildren: Luke Reese, Drew Shuman, Lily Reese, Hunter Grantham, Gabriana Grantham, and Austin Arendes; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 12, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Terry DeLoach and the Rev. Lynn Drake officiating. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery.

Ila Mae Cowart
Ila Mae Cowart, 77, died Sunday, January 23, 2000, at Appling Health Care System in Baxley after an extended illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County and a retired seamstress. She was a member of the Collins Assembly of God. She was the widow of Hubert Cowart and was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Dale Cowart.
She is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Hardee of Baxley and Gwendolyn C. Dennis of Collins; two sons, Gilbert Cowart of Collins and K. C. Cowart of Egypt, Georgia; one sister, Ruby Roberts of Hardeeville, South Carolina; two brothers, Milton Findley of Statesboro and Lewis Findley of Savannah; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, at the Collins Assembly of God, with the Rev. Grady Acree officiating. Burial was in the Little Flock Church Cemetery.

Buck Strickland
Millard J. (Buck) Strickland, 82, died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at his residence in Glennville after a short illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was retired from the Tattnall County Board of Education as custodian at the Glennville High School. He worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation and was a farmer. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Dora Lee and Gordon Colson of Claxton; Lenell and Charles Sikes of Waycross; and Melbalene and James Bugajski of Glennville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lamont and RosaLee Strickland of Glennville, and Thurman and Elaine Strickland of Savannah; two sisters, Nora Standard of Crystal River, Florida, and Virginia Whitmer of Brunswick; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Knight and the Rev. Jimmy Bargeron. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Mike Strickland, Jimmy Bugajski, Dent Norton, Avery Strickland, Charley Sikes, and Greg Strickland.
