Ethel M. Forsyth

Ethel M. Forsyth, 91, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Pulaski County native had lived in Columbus for many years, moving to Glennville two years ago. She was retired from Zale Jewelers, and a member of Glennville Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Ann Forsyth of Glennville; two sisters, Mildred Phillips and Ruth Feagin, both of Columbus; one brother, James D. Feagin of Hendersonville, North Carolina; three grandchildren: Thomas F. Forsyth of Maitland, Florida; Michael S. Forsyth of Glennville; and William S. Forsyth of Tampa, Florida; one great-grandson, Brandon Forsyth of Maitland, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Crypt side funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 22, at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia.
Remembrances can be made to the Glennville Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 213 South Downing Musgrove Hwy., Glennville, Georgia 30427.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Olin Thomas, Jr.

Olin Thomas, Jr., 62, of Palatka, Florida, died Friday, November 21, 2003, at the Shands Hospital in Gainesville, following a brief illness. He was affectionately known as “Junie Bug.” He was born in Glennville, Georgia. His family moved to Palatka in 1947 where he grew up and attended public schools. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force where he served honorably. He was formerly employed by General Motors in Madison, Wisconsin. He traveled all over the country as an exhibit setup supervisor in trade shows. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his father, Olin Thomas, Sr., and his stepfather, W. W. Price.
He is survived by his fiancée, Peggy Betancourt of Seffner; his mother, Vivian Price of Palatka; two sons and daughter-in-law, Scott and Marie Thomas of Madison, Wisconsin, and Bill Thomas of Wisconsin; one brother, Tim Price of Palatka; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Carolyn and Bill Moore of Morristown, Tennessee; Donna and David Rich of Bardin; and Joyce Woodling of Melbourne; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, November 24, at the Masters Funeral Home of Palatka, with Pastor Benny Reynolds and Pastor Lester Jenkins officiating. Bro. Randy Rogers provided special music. Burial followed in Palatka Memorial Gardens, with military honors.
Memorial gifts may be sent to Hospice of the Lakes, 6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Florida 32177.

Valeria J. Jackson

Valerie Jordan Jackson, 29, passed into eternal rest Sunday, November 23, 2003, at the V. A. Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia. She was born in Tattnall County and was a 1991 graduate of Glennville High School. She joined the U.S. Air Force in 1993 and was retired.
She is survived by her husband, Dameon Jackson of Las Vegas, Nevada; her mother, Laverne Jordan Brown; one nephew, Demarcus Jordan; and her stepfather, Victor Brown, all of Duluth, Georgia; two brothers: Gregory Smith of Norfolk, Virginia, and Anthony Jordan of Baghdad; and one sister, Contina Jordan, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29, at 1 p.m., at St. James A. M. E. Church in Glennville, Georgia, with the Rev. James Arthur officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery.
Harpers Funeral Home of Claxton, Georgia, is in charge of the arrangements.

Malcolm "Sam" Whitfield

Malcolm "Sam” Whitfield, 87, died Friday, November 12, 2004, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Chattooga County native had lived in Savannah for many years, moving to Tattnall County 24 years ago. He was retired from Dyches Construction Company, a World War II veteran, a member of VFW Post #660, and a member of Elza Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. Whitfield of Reidsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Charles and Susan Whitfield of Savannah and Glenn Whitfield of Hardeeville, South Carolina; daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Danny Cronk and Linda and Stewart Broom, all of Savannah; stepchildren: Charles and Betty Flowers and David Flowers, Jr., of Reidsville; June Moser of Ellabell; Joyce and Johnny Roberson of Ludowici; Emory and Ronnie Flowers of Savannah; Wayne Flowers of Augusta; and Wade Flowers of Brooklet; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 15, at Poplar Head Church, with the Rev. Robert Ferrell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Trey Broom, Walter Anderson, Gary Roberson, Brian Anderson, Johnny Roberson, and Charles Anderson.

Joe Smith

Joe Smith, 78, died Monday, November 8, 2004, under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. He was born October 28, 1926, in Roanoke, Alabama, the son of Gentle Smith and Lizzie Levette Smith. He moved to Glennville as a young adult. He worked in forestry until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Phillips Smith, and his daughter, Helen Smith Miller.
He is survived by two daughters, Annie Mae Miller Felder of Miami, Florida, and Joan Smith of Vogelweh, Germany; a brother, Horace Smith of Aniston, Alabama; five sisters: Mittie Mayfield and Princess Smith, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; Clara Walker and Julie Smith Miles, both of Bronx, New York; and Beatrice Rolands of Roanoke, Alabama; grandsons, Gerald C. Pervall of Washington, D. C., and Marcus Lea of Roxboro, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Sheila Felder of Miami, Florida; grandchildren: Theone, Deon, Gina, and Eric Grover of Savannah; friends: Max Baxter, Minnie L. Newton, and Nell Armstrong; prayer partner, Rubena Surrency; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 13, at 1 p.m. at Center of Life Fellowship Church in Glennville. Burial was in Ogden Mills Cemetery in Reidsville.

Doris K. Edwards

Doris Knight Edwards, 82, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton after a long illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Tattnall County. She was a homemaker, and a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Barney Edwards, and her sister, Marjorie Williams.
She is survived by two sons, Rufus "Dub” Edwards of Mendes and Charles Gordon Edwards of Glennville; daughters and sons-in-law: Charlotte and Richard Webb of Hinesville; Carolyn Edwards of Dahlonega; Wanda Swindell, Gail and Jerry Dasher, Patsy and Danny Holliday, Susan and L J. Groover, and Debbie and Mike Moody, all of Glennville; a brother, Graham Knight of Reidsville; four sisters: Willie Jo Dowdy and Barbara Dreggors of Glennville; Mary Sue Hodovanic of Ohio; and Lucy Seltenright of Los Angeles; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 13, at the chapel of Cobb Funeral Home, with the Rev. Edward Brannen, the Rev. Bobby Brinkley, and the Rev. Kenny Edwards officiating. Burial was in Sands Field Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stacey Dasher, J. G. Cannady, Adam Moody, Gene Edwards, Junior Groover, Ty Swindell, Scott Cramer, and Shane Holliday.
Remembrances can be made to the Smyrna Baptist Church Building Fund or to Pearls of Life Hospice.

Audrey Williams

Audrey DeLoach Williams, 51, died Saturday, November 13, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia. She was born November 16, 1952, in Long County, the daughter of Mildred Swindell DeLoach Blocker and the late Willie DeLoach. She had resided in Hephzibah for the past 28 years and was formerly from Glennville. She was a 1970 graduate of Ludowici High School, and was retired from the Eisenhower Army Medical Center, following 20 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith, but attended Friendship United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Williams.
She is survived by her children, Brooke and Jeremy McManus and Jennifer and Jeremy Hudson, all of Hephzibah; her mother, Mildred Blocker of Glennville; two sisters, Winifred Walker of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Janet Foster of Glennville; three brothers: Ronald DeLoach, Sr., Willie DeLoach, and Gerald Blocker, all of Glennville; and four grandsons and one granddaughter, all of Hephzibah.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, in the Hephzibah chapel of DeLoach Kennedy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Oliver officiating. Graveside interment services were held at 4:30 p.m. in the DeLoach Family Cemetery on Hwy. 144 in Glennville.

James E. Poole

James Everett Poole, 89, died Friday, November 12, 2004, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, Missouri. The Wilkes County native had lived in Tattnall County for many years, moving to Marshall several years ago. He was a retired brick mason, and a member of Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie D. Padgett Poole.
He is survived by two daughters, Ginny J. Workman of Newport Richey, Florida, and Hazel Rafferty of Marshall, Missouri; three sisters: Mary Jacobs of Orange City, Florida; Vera Godwin of Glennville, Georgia; and Imorence Frambo of Leesburg, Florida; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Harris Nix officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Theron Padgett, David Dinkins, Wayne Padgett, Danny Dinkins, Timmy O’Quinn, and Aubrey Durrence.

Jessie Kicklighter, Sr.

Jessie A. Kicklighter, Sr., 77, died Saturday, November 15, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart, a World War II Navy veteran, a master wood craftsman, and an avid gardener. He was a Primitive Baptist minister, serving in many churches in this area, including Pine Grove and Rome Primitive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, James Kevin Kicklighter.
He is survived by his wife, Mathadeen Durrence Kicklighter of Glennville; children: Gail Wannette Kicklighter and Allen Kicklighter, both of Glennville; and Lolita Kicklighter North of Tucson, Arizona; three sisters: Earlene Glisson and Lennie Howard, both of Statesboro; and Lois Curry of Glennville; two brothers, Franklin Kicklighter of Glennville and Talmadge Kicklighter of Odom; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 20, at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder W. H. Durrence and Elder Moses Toole officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Kicklighter, Jessie Hammock, Justin Kicklighter, Richard Hammock, Greg Bluethmann, and Kenneth Mitchell, Jr.

Beulah D. Smiley

Beulah D. Smiley, 86, died Thursday, November 13, 2003, at Tattnall Nursing Care. The Long County native was the oldest member of the Glennville First United Pentecostal Church. She was formerly employed by Armstrong Cricket Farm, and was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Willie Smiley; a son, Jimmy Smiley; and a son-in-law, Wayne Fennell.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Fennell of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law: Billy and Sarah Smiley of Ludowici, Glenn and Mary Jack Smiley of Savannah, Bobby and Shirley Smiley of Waynesboro, Ricky and Glenda Smiley of Glennville, and Linda Smiley of Lyons; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 16, at Glennville First United Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. James Holland officiating. Burial was in Poplar Head Church Cemetery in Long County.
Pallbearers were David Fennell; Jonathan Smiley; Dana Fennell; Billy Smiley, Jr.; Daniel Fennell; Jamie Smiley; Bruce Smiley; and Butch Smiley.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Rodney Cothern

Rodney Cothern, 44, died Monday, November 10, 2003, at Winn Army Hospital at Ft. Stewart, Georgia. The Coffee County native had lived in Glennville for the past nine years, and was employed by Trawick Construction Company.
He is survived by a companion, Janet K. Anderson of Glennville; children: Brandy Michelle Cothern of Alma; Le Ann McDonald of Douglas; Rodney Cothern of Burlington, North Carolina; Dennis Dasher of Glennville; and Hope Gay of Ludowici; sisters: Eunice Carter, Caroline Gills, and Diane Gills, all of Jacksonville, Georgia; Virginia Platt of Okeechobee, Florida; Willene Reed of Pensacola, Florida; Jurelle Dykes of Hazlehurst; and Shirley Griffis of Baxley; one brother, J. T. Bryant of Hazlehurst; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 15, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. David Douglas officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Terrell Futch, Joe Holton, James May, Jason Griffin, Danny Cook, and Steve Stiegman.
